Disney High is a fanfiction created by Fanfiction.net user, Nina-D-Lux. She also has a Deviantart page under the same name where she has a collection of fanarts she has done for the project The series can be found here.

The story is a modern take on all the most popular Disney movies, with the characters being students in high school. A lot of plots from the classic movies have been modified to fit the high school setting (For example, Ariel has a crush on Eric and makes a deal with the school's resident bully, Ursula, into helping him notice her by 'transforming' her look)

The main characters feature:

  • The Seniors: Flynn, Phoebus, Esmeralda, Pocahontas, Quasimodo, Aladdin, Naveen, Lottie and Tiana.
  • The Juniors: Aurora, Snow White, Cinderella, Phillip, Charming, Shang and Eric.
  • The Sophomores: Ariel, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan, Belle and Adam.

Other characters are featured but these are the most prominent characters who have their own, well-rounded, story lines.

Don't confuse this with the similarly-named fan-comic Disney High School, which also has a TV Tropes page.

Disney High provides examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Flynn. His mother is not necessarily abusive, but she does leave him home alone and seems neglectful. There is no mention of a father. Somewhat justified considering he was an abandoned child in the movie.
  • Accidental Athlete: Mulan ends up joining the Athletics club to avoid joining the Maths or chess club like her parents want her too.
  • Action Girl: Audrey, being the only other girl apart from Mulan on the athletics team.
  • Alpha Bitch: Surprisingly for a high school story this seems to be averted.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Averted. Belle is turned off by Adam's rough ways and there's no hint that he's popular with girls, despite Mulan saying he's attractive. Un-averted with Rapunzel as she shows interest in Flynn, though that might be because she doesn't notice/is oblivious to, his bad boy status.
  • All Guys Want Cheerleaders: Averted with Naveen, who shows more interest in Esmeralda and Tiana than he does Lottie.
  • All Women Love Shoes: Cinderella, slightly averted in that she is more interested in Charming, who happens to work in the shoe store.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Averted. After falling asleep with Makeup on, Rapunzel wakes up with panda eyes and a pillow covered in foundation.
  • Beta Couple: Aurora and Phillip are already together at the start of the story.
  • Big Fancy House: Jasmine lives in one of these.
  • Big Man on Campus: Gaston is this.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Adam and Belle. Flynn and Rapunzel.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: Aladdin, a little bit. At least with Jasmine.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Jasmine at Flynn's party, though it's only comedic to the other party goers. Jasmine herself is mortified and it's not particularly played for laughs in the story.
  • Confiscated Phone: Mulan gets hers taken away in Maths class which leads to her missing the memo about Athletics try outs, leaving her drastically un-prepared.
  • Converting for Love: Ariel changes her style to be noticed by Eric.
  • Cool Garage: Eric's house has one that his band uses for practices.
  • Cool Teacher: Jane Porter. Teaches art and is well liked by her students because she is young and kinder than a lot of other teachers.
  • Childhood Friends: Pocahontas and Esmeralda.
  • Con Man: Flynn. He successfully scores a free meal from a waitress by pretending to forget his wallet and instead just uses his charm. It's implied he gets away with this often.
  • Control Freak: Tiana comes off a little like this.
  • Cute Bookworm: Belle.
  • The Cutie: Rapunzel. Lampshaded by Esmeralda, who fawns over her when she does something she thinks is adorable.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Ariel.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Characters that were villains in the movies are now just portrayed as mean teachers or bullying students etc. instead of being flat out evil.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Phoebus comes across as this quite often. Jasmine has her moments, and surprisingly Snow White's character has been altered to become this.
  • Determinator: Ariel.
  • Derailing Love Interests: John Smith was introduced first in the story, but John Rolfe was also introduced later. It is not clear who Pocahontas will end up with, since the story might mimic the canon movie ending, or go with the more popular pairing of Pocahontas and John Smith.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Quasimodo.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Flynn when his friends worry over how his Mother left him alone for weeks to go on holiday with a new boyfriend.
  • Drama Club: The senior drama class. Played for laughs as no one in the class takes acting seriously and only take the elective as it's seen as an easy A.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Shang, who takes his role as Athletics captain very seriously, as he knows he only got it because his dad is head of the sports department. He is determined to prove himself by making the team successful.
  • Education Mama: Mulan's mom is this.
  • Entitled to Have You: How one of the Stabbington brothers feel towards Rapunzel after he felt he had tried to be nice to her all night at Flynn's party.
  • Everyone Can See It: Mulan teases that Belle has a crush on Adam, which she denies.
  • Fiery Redhead: Again, Ariel.
  • Foreign Exchange Student: Naveen.
  • Friendless Background: Belle.
  • Girl Posse: Jasmine, Mulan, Ariel and Rapunzel form one. There's also Aurora, Snow and Cinderella, as well as the cheerleaders.
  • A Good Name for a Rock Band: Eric's band used to be called "The Lost Boys" (a Shout-Out to Peter Pan, as his character is a member) until Audrey, and later Ariel, also joined. Now they are called "The Second Star on the Right" which they shorten to "The Second Stars" which we're told Peter's girlfriend Wendy came up with.
  • Group Hug: When Ariel joins Eric's band, Peter grabs everyone for one of these.
  • Guys are Slobs: Flynn, his room is ridiculously messy. Averted with Esmeralda, who's room is just as bad.
  • High School AU: The entire premise of the fic.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Pocahontas and Esmeralda can be seen like this.
  • High-School Dance: Pocahontas and Tiana organize one to raise money to save the senior quad, which is getting torn down to build a new parking lot.
  • High-School Hustler: Aladdin is said to be this at his old school, which he got expelled from for managing to steal free lunches for two whole years.
  • Home Schooled Kids: Rapunzel.
  • Hot Librarian: Meg is one.
  • Hot Teacher: Jim Hawkins teaches junior Science classes and is seen this way by most of his female students
  • I Can't Believe a Guy Like You Would Notice Me: Rapunzel wondering why Flynn takes such an interest in her. She doesn't know that he is doing it on a bet with Phoebus and Esmeralda (Though they are only baiting him into the bet since they know he would most likely fall for Rapunzel if he got to know her, as they knew he would only deny his feelings if left on his own)
  • I'll Take Two Beers Too: Meg and Jane order drinks at the 'casual staff party'. Meg asks for two shots of tequila and Jane starts to protest that she doesn't even like tequila... only to cut herself off when Meg downs both shots right away.
  • Insufferable Genius: Tiana comes across as this to her classmates as she complains when they slack off on their school work.
  • It Doesn't Mean Anything: Esmeralda and Naveen. It's confirmed that she has no real feelings for him, and it's implied that he doesn't have them for her either.
  • Jerkass: Gaston. Especially when dealing with Belle. Adam shows shades of this but it's more than likely he will turn out to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Flynn, with only Rapunzel drawing out his softer side.
  • Just Friends: Esmeralda reveals to Rapunzel and Jasmine that she used to like someone, but he only saw her as this, so she never told him.
  • The Lad-ette: Audrey, and to a certain degree, Esmeralda. Though that is more in her personality.
  • Ladykiller in Love: Flynn.
  • Late for School: Cinderella in her introduction.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Averted. Rapunzel is said to have short right from the start of the story, instead of her long blonde style she has for most of her movie, yet she is still portrayed as very girly and feminine.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: The way Jasmine tends to see things.
  • Mama Bear: Esmeralda is this towards her friends, and Especially the younger Jasmine and Rapunzel.
  • Mood Whiplash: After two chapters of a mostly lighthearted party at Flynn's house, it ends with a scene of Rapunzel suddenly in danger of being attacked by the Stabbington brothers. Luckily they are stopped, but it is a very drama filled scene in contrast with the rest of the comedic story.
  • No Indoor Voice: Lottie.
  • Near-Rape Experience: Happens to Rapunzel.
  • New Transfer Student: Rapunzel.
  • Only Sane Man: Pocahontas in her group of friends.
  • Passing Notes in Class: Adam to Belle, only to tell her she needs to finish a report for him though.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Jasmine wears one to Flynn's party and it ends up being accidentally ruined by Aladdin.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: To a certain degree, most of the characters. Justified as it's a modern high school story and they are used realistically.
  • Playing Hard to Get: Jasmine.
  • Precocious Crush: Ariel and Cinderella.
  • The Reliable One: Tiana and Pocahontas.
  • School Clubs Are Serious Business: High school dance committees are serious business.
  • School Play: The senior drama class is putting on a performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream....set in space. Thanks to their eccentric drama teacher, Clopin.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Flynn as a senior in high school sees it as his right to be able to push in front of younger kids in the lunch line.
  • Shipper on Deck: Esmeralda and Phoebus are the ones who push Flynn towards Rapunzel and Esmeralda encouraged Jasmine to give Aladdin a second chance.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Aurora and Phillip, which their friends like to point out.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: Ariel is this towards Eric, as well as Rapunzel with Flynn and Lottie with Naveen. A gender flipped version is Aladdin being smitten with Jasmine.
  • Stalking Is Funny If Its Female After Male: Snow jokes that Cinderella is stalking Charming when she points out that she visits the shoe shop he works at way too much. "I go in to look at shoes!" "Sure you do, Stalkerella McCreeperson."
  • Step Up to the Microphone: Ariel comes along to Eric's band practice to watch but after finding out she likes singing they ask to hear her perform with them for fun. They end up being impressed enough to want her in the band, since they mention Eric was only their current singer since they couldn't find anyone better.
  • Sucky School: It's been said that the cafeteria food is awful, the football team sucks and half the teachers are in some way incompetent . This is all played for laughs though.
  • Tree Cover: Pocahontas is hiding in a tree to listen in on John Smith.
  • The Trickster: Flynn and Phoebus. It's been mentioned that they have this reputation around school, and that they once glued all the locks on the doors shut and uploaded embarrassing footage of the school's football team onto YouTube.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Phillip is this to Aurora after cheer tryouts go horribly.
  • Waxing Lyrical: Aladdin mistakenly believes that Jasmine will only date someone who knows all the lyrics to an album by Miley Cyrus off by heart. When they are talking at Flynn's party and he tries to convince her he's really an Arabian prince who's only moved to the US recently, he desperately comes up with this:
Aladdin: I just got here... hopped off the plane at L.A.X... with my dream and um... my cardingan. I mean... it's the land of fame excess... I was kinda worried I wasn't going to fit in.
Jasmine: Are you... are those the lyrics to Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA"?
    Aladdin: ... maybe.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Jasmine on Ariel's interest in Eric.
