Destiny
is a trilogy of Disney Animated Canon fanfics by afterandalasia. It was originally written for the Disney Kink Meme. The series consists of Destiny, Destiny's Kiss, and Sons of Destiny.
The plot is simple: the various Disney films are actually the Dying Dreams of various people. Each film has a short paragraph describing how the person died and what their dream was.
Destiny provides examples of:
- Adaptation Name Change:
- Aurora's name in life was "Briar Rose". "Aurora" only appears in her dreams of being a princess.
- Tiger Lily can't remember her birth name. "Lily" is a Naturalized Name forced upon her.
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: As well as being humans instead of lions, Nala and Kiara are sisters, not mother and daughter.
- Adaptation Species Change: All non-human characters were human in life.
- Adaptational Villainy: The Tramp murdered Lady.
- Age Lift: Ages are tweaked. For example, Lady is young (maybe even a child) instead of a full-grown adult.
- The Alcoholic: Marie is left in the care of her abusive, alcoholic uncle while her mother is in the hospital.
- All Just a Dream: Every Disney film is someone's Dying Dream.
- Ambiguously Brown: Naveen's ethnicity is brought to the centerfold in his entry. Because of his looks, he falsely accused of a crime and lynched for it.
- Anthropomorphic Personification: "Destiny" is a personification of destiny that allows people to die viewing what they would have preferred in life.
- The Bad Guy Wins: Frollo succeeds in killing Esmeralda in this version.
- Burn the Witch!: Frollo successfully burns Esmeralda after he falsely accuses her of witchcraft. The entirety of the film is her Dying Dream.
- Crossover: Destiny meets characters from various Disney media, including direct-to-video sequels and television cartoons. There are also a few non-Disney characters.
- Dark Fic: All of the characters have died. The story tells of how they met their demises. Many end up dying of illness, others are murdered, and every death is tragic.
- Death by Childbirth: Jasmine became pregnant in her teens. Her body couldn't handle the birthing process and so she died in childbirth.
- Death of a Child: Young characters are not exempt from the story. For example, Melody accidentally drowns in the ocean while looking for her father.
- Disabled in the Adaptation:
- Shanti was murdered by a disabled man-eating tiger. This returns Shere Khan to his original portrayal in the books, where he only hunts humans because he was born with a lame leg.
- Roxanne from A Goofy Movie died of cancer.
- Simba died of cancer.
- Downer Ending: Destiny fails to help Katrina van Tassel in a significant way.
- Dying Dream: Each story is the dream of a Disney character before they die.
- Evil Uncle: Marie from The Aristocats was actually a little girl who was temporarily left with her angry, alcoholic uncle while her mother was in labor. Her uncle got drunk and took her out riding on his motorcycle. They were hit by a train and Marie died in the crash.
- Incurable Cough of Death: Angel realizes that she's dying when she coughs up blood.
- Infant Sibling Jealousy: Lady ran away from home because her parents were having a baby and she was worried that her parents wouldn't love her anymore. Lady trusted the wrong man and was killed by him.
- Named by the Adaptation: Miss Kitty is only known by her Stage Name in canon. In Destiny's Kiss, she is named "Katherine".
- No Name Given: The Blue Fairy's name isn't given. She's described as "a woman whose name is not cared for".
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Grumpy was a young boy. He either doesn't have a name or has forgotten it. Everyone just calls him "Grumpy".
- Passed in Their Sleep: Tiana was ill with the flu when one night she went to bed and never woke up.
- Public Execution:
- Esmeralda was burned for declining to be Frollo's.
- Madellaine was publically hanged for theft.
- Rape as Backstory: Several characters, including Miss Kitty, Nala, and Kiara, were raped prior to their deaths.
- Related in the Adaptation: Gothel is Rapunzel's biological mother. Her dying dream is that her abusive mother stole her from her loving, biological parents as an infant.
- The Runaway:
- Lady ran from home because she worried her parents cared more about her new brother than they did her. She never made it home alive because a stranger she trusted killed her.
- Angel is implied to have ran away from home because her parents are neglectful.
- Tragic Stillbirth: On the same day that Marie's parents lose their daughter, their twin sons were born stillbirths.
