Colossus Joins Weapon X is a X-Men fanfiction where Colossus is kidnapped by Weapon X and is subjected to an arduous and tortuous range of training and conditioning in an attempt to forge him into their most powerful weapon since the escape of Wolverine.

The story has 15 chapters and an epilogue. It can be read here.

Colossus Joins Weapon X contains the following tropes:

  • And I Must Scream: Almost the entirety of the story from Colossus's perspective. He's enslaved by people who want to turn him into a living weapon and as a consequence, utterly dehumanized, tortured and kept in humiliating conditions far from anyone he loves with no way to contact them. In one of the most disturbing moments, Colossus is tortured in a sensory deprivation suit and literally loses his ability to scream.
  • Big Bad: Doctor Cornelius, the most senior scientist at Weapon X.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Colossus will do everything he can to protect someone younger than him. This trope is actually exploited by Weapon X, when they arrange for him to befriend a young mutant boy, Kodi, so he won't try to escape knowing he'll be leaving an innocent boy behind.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: There's not a single moment where Piotrs isn't being observed by Weapon X, even when he bathes or goes to the bathroom. Even more disturbingly, the chip in his skull allows them to read his brainwaves.
  • Big Brother Worship: A running theme in the Rasputin family. Iliyana looks up to her big brother, while Piotr himself deeply admired his brother Mikhail and was heartbroken when he was informed about his death.
  • Big Fancy Castle: Colossus's first target lives in one and it's also where he confronts the X-Men when they come to rescue him.
  • Boisterous Weakling: Sabretooth, at least in comparison to Colossus. While he spends most of his screen time tormenting Piotr, the second Colossus is allowed to defend himself he defeats him within seconds.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Due to Colossus's powers being purely physical he undergoes lessons in how to fight at Weapon X. It's also shown via flashbacks he was given combat training by X-Men members. Wolverine taught him boxing and other striking martial arts. Cyclops taught him Judo to augment the grappling skills he gained from his years of training in wrestling.
  • Brought Down to Badass: A few times in the story Colossus is barred from activating his powers. This doesn't do much to diminish his combat capability, as he's still a very strong, athletic man with experience and skill in combat sports and self defence.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Many of the staff tease and abuse Piotr despite him being an extremely powerful mutant and a very strong man even in his normal form. It backfires on a few guards who are selected to participate in his combat assessment and he beats them all to a pulp.
  • Children Are Innocent: The mutant captive, Kodi. Very innocent due to haveing spent the entirety of his life at the facilities while unable to leave because of his condition. He doesnt see anything odd with his life, and when Piotr meets up having recently been beat up and badly bruises he only cares that he has someone to play with.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: An aim of Weapon X throughout the story. They recognize in terms of sheer raw power Colossus is virtually unmatched but his kindness and gentleness hold him back as a combatant so they seek to harden him mentally through their tortures of him.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Any fight where Colossus is at full power and isn't holding back led to this.
  • Dehumanization: A running theme throughout the story is how Colossus has his humanity stripped from him. He is kept in the nude, his body hair is removed, his every waking moment is regimented, and he is monitored every second in the day.
  • Delicate and Sickly: The child mutant Kodi. It's mentioned that he's very prone to getting sick due to his mutation and when he uses his powers the effort half kills him.
  • Demoted to Extra: The rest of the X-Men who only appear in person in the final several chapters. Justified, as the story is from Colossus's point of view. They have an overarching presence in the story, and it's made clear they're searching for him behind the scenes, and some of them appear in several flashback sequences.
  • Depraved Homosexual: Sabretooth, very sadistic and cruel, and the only character he shows attraction to is Colossus. Throughout the story, he repeatedly takes full advantage of Piotr's helplessness by groping and touching him, and he mentions plans to rape him before being stopped.
  • Despair Event Horizon: When Piotr is informed that Weapon X knows where his family lives and won't hesitate to kill them if he disobeys or fails them he crosses this. All hope or consideration of escape or defiance leaves him.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Averted, many of the female staff at Weapon X abuse Colossus and are portrayed as just as villainous for their actions as their male counterparts.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Piotr has dark hair and as the story progresses he's mentioned as becoming quite pale due to spending all his time indoors.
  • Evil Is Petty: Some of the torments and conditions of Piotrs kept in are ridiculously petty. He's given clothes that are very tight making the shy and modest mutant very uncomfortable, they remove light switches and shower knobs in his cell so he doesn't have the most minute control of his room, they make him eat with child mutants despite the fact he's 18, etc. Somewhat Justified, in that most of these are all calculated so Piotr will feel totally helpless and underscore Weapon X's absolute power over him.
  • Fan Disservice: Colossus spends a third of the story in the nude. However, it's done on purpose by Weapon X personnel to make him feel humiliated and weakened.
  • Faster Than They Look: Colossus is described as being freakishly fast and agile for someone who's so tall and bulky.
  • Female Gaze: Colossus due to his looks gets a lot of admiring looks from women. Although, it's implied a lot of the ogling he endures from women at Weapon X isn't genuine but part of their attempts to make him feel as uncomfortable and embarrassed as possible.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: During his combat assessment Colossus's outfit is destroyed and he is forced to fight naked.
  • Gilded Cage: In the second half of the story, after proving himself a valuable asset Piotr's given very luxurious living quarters to live in.
  • Hellhole Prison: The Weapon X headquarters. The prisoners are treated appallingly. Colossus himself notes he can hear distant screaming at times.
  • Heroic Build: It's mentioned Colossus has a very muscular physique, especially for someone who is in their late teens.
  • Husky Russkie: Even in his human form Colossus is a very big man, over 6.5 feet tall and very muscular. One character mentions his big toes alone are the size of an infant's foot.
  • Implacable Man: Colossus due to his powers and combat abilities is virtually unstoppable in combat. Best shown in the penultimate chapter when he fights the X-Men and none of them can defeat him, no matter how hard they try. In Nightcrawler's case, he doesn't fight back at all.
  • Lack of Empathy: Most members of Weapon X either actively enjoy torturing Piotr or feel nothing but clinical disinterest at his suffering.
  • Made a Slave: It's made explicitly clear that Colossus is, for all intents and purposes, a slave for Weapon X.
  • Manchild: Quite a few characters point out that despite Colossus being fairly intelligent, and even cultured, for his age, he's very naive and innocent for someone who is legally an adult. Other characters mention there's something child like about him. He's genuinely confused when he sees people ogling him and doesn't understand why they enjoy looking at him. Tellingly, the captive he gets along most well is the child mutant Kodi.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Dr.Nealon, unlike the other scientists at Weapon X who use blunt and overt methods to control Colossus, is much more of the subtle and gentle approach to control Colossus. He shows an amazing ability to anticipate Colossus's wants and needs to manipulate him and convince him he really cares about him.
  • Manly Tears: Due to the extreme stress hes under, Piotr sheds quite a few tears throughout the story.
  • Mind Rape: While Colossus is physically tortured relentlessly by Weapon X they also torture him mentally as well. Dr. Cornelius mentions he finds it works better in breaking men down and they can't afford much wear and tear on Piotr's body because of his absence of healing powers. To that end, they do everything they can to keep him as confused and embarrassed as possible.
  • More than Mind Control: At no point do Weapon X overtly control Piotrs mind. Rather they use extremely painful and humiliating conditioning and emotional manipulation to bend him to their will. At the end of the story during the confrontation with the rest of the X-Men they realise he's not being overtly controlled but is instead hurt, confused, and traumatized. Beast correctly assumes that Piotr subconsciously knows he's being manipulated, but he's just so exhausted and broken he goes along with whatever will cause him the least amount of pain.
  • Mummy's Boy: While he loves both his parents Colossus is clearly closer to his mother.
  • No Name Given: Since the story is from the point of view of Colossus, many staff members are never named because he's never informed what their names are himself.
  • Patriotic Fervor: Downplayed but throughout the story Piotr demonstrates quite a bit of patriotism for his mother country. Hes proud of its art, history and culture, and he's happy when people he meets are too. Like a lot of his personality traits it's exploited by Weapon X, with his first target he's sent to assassinate is a corrupt soviet member. Deliberately picked because they know the idea of his people being exploited and mistreated will infuriate Colossus.
  • Pet the Dog: The scientist Dr. Nealon is kind to Piotr on occasion. Subverted however when it becomes obvious most moments of kindness or generosity are an attempt to manipulate Piotr and endear himself to him. However, when he allows Piotr to talk to his parents despite knowing the X-Men are listening and it will remind him of his past life is definitely an example of this trope.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Piotr's main carer and doctor Dr. Nealon who understands that treating Piotr fairly and relatively well will both keep Piotr healthy mentally and will help induce stocklholm syndrome within him. He also comments he finds a lot of the abuses inflicted on captived pointless and counterproductive, and he finds the sheer amount of mutants kidnapped unnecessary.
  • Precision F-Strike: Colossus swears only once in the entire story, when he realizes Xavier has taken control of his sister to speak to him. It conveys his utter fury at the professor's actions.
  • Sadist: Dr. Cornelius, while most other staff at Weapon X qualify he is by far the most cruel. He enjoys observing freshly arrived captives undergoing the extremely humiliating and painful induction. He also keeps bits of Wolverine's body parts that he removed as trophies in his office.
  • Shameful Strip: Colossus is forced to strip naked in the first chapter. Disturbingly, he's kept naked for approximately a third of the story like an animal.
  • Shock Collar: While not a collar the chip that's implanted into Colossus skull has the same function. He receives an excruciating electric shock whenever he displeases or disobeys his kidnappers.
  • Skilled And Strong: Colossus, several characters are astounded by how strong he is even in his human form and he's a very capable fighter due to both his training with the X-Men and the years participating in wrestling during his childhood.
  • Smug Snake: Most of the staff at Weapon X, they relish in controlling and tormenting a young man who is under their absolute power.
  • Stockholm Syndrome: What Weapon X tries to induce in Colossus once it's proven he would be a very valuable asset. They give him better treatment, dignity, even substitute friends and family in the form of other captive mutants. It begins to work until Colossus's confrontation with the X-Men and being forced to accept he's being manipulated.
  • Stupid Evil: A recurring plot point is that many of the staff at Weapon X are unnecessarily cruel in their treatment of the mutants under their power.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Colossus is not only one of the few fully humanoid mutants at the facility, he's also one whose young, handsome and muscular. Which gets him a lot of harassment and attention from the staff at Weapon X. While some are implied to be doing so under the instruction to abuse Colossus it's clear a lot do so simply because they're attracted to him.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Kodi functions as one for Piotr. He acts as a substitute for Nightcrawler, a playful blue mutant who he can be friends with, and his sister Iliyana, a young child who looks up to him, all as part of Weapon X's plan to induce Stockholm Syndrome in Piotr. When the rest of the X-Men find out about him they point out how blatant the manipulation is. Piotr doesn't truly care and is just happy to have a reminder of home.
  • Training from Hell: The training Piotr receives is indistinguishable from torture at times. He is forced to participate in combat training until he is beaten bloody, forced to workout until he collapses from exhaustion, etc.
  • Troll : Dr. Cornelius, he obviously enjoys mentally tormenting Piotr, such as when he projects his families faces onto machines he has to fight. He tried to justify it by claiming angering Piotr will result in him performing better in trials and turn him into a much more vicious, ruthless and brutal fighter and agent. However, it's obvious he also does it because it amuses him.
  • Vague Age: It's mentioned Kodi's mutation affects the aging process. He looks about 10 but behaves like a boy years younger than that. Since he was born in Weapon X and he has never interacted with normal society it's a mystery whether he truly is much younger than he looks or he's just been socialized oddly.
  • Workout Fanservice: A very twisted example. During his induction period, Colossus is forced to undergo extremely rigorous fitness tests and exercise regimes, while still being kept completely naked. While many of the staff enjoy the show, the fact the "tests" are clearly designed to be as humiliating and exhausting as possible coupled with the fact that Piotr is in pain, confused, frightened and embarrassed detracts from any fanservice the scene might have.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Piotr uses a few judo and wrestling moves throughout the story, and it's mentioned that he is always enjoyed participated in grappling sports throughout his childhood.
