German Belles in General
Destroyers (DD)
Leberecht Maass
Voiced by: Emily Koch
- "Goodness, Kapitän - I thought what little luck I possessed had finally run out... but then you showed up and saved the day! I'm Leberecht Maass. Thank you."
Belle of the destroyer Leberecht Maass. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for German captains.
- Born Unlucky: One of her defining traits, to the point in which her infamous luck drives her entire crew to avoid her.
- Chronic Self-Deprecation: Leberecht has pretty much accepted her status as unlucky and unable to accomplish anything because of her bad luck and the things others say about her.
- Wearing a Flag on Your Head: Wears the war ensign of the Imperial German Navy on her skirt.
Theodor Riedel
Voiced by: Cromerty York
- "Kapitän... you came to my aid! You rescued this damsel in distress! My name is Theodor Riedel, and I give you my word - I'll help you defeat those sea witches."
Belle of the destroyer Theodor Riedel. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for German captains.
- Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Is depicted as this, as a pretty obvious reference to the Disney depiction of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Hans Lody
Voiced by: N/A
- "I've heard talk of you, Kapitän, but the rumours didn't do you justice. My name is Hans Lody. Care to hear what I've overheard?"
Belle of the destroyer Hans Lody. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
Diether von Roeder
Voiced by: Vivian Faber
- "How virtuous you seem, Kapitän. My name is Diether von Roeder, and I would be pleased to serve alongside a Kapitän as esteemed as yourself."
Belle of the destroyer Diether von Roeder. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for German captains.
- Blue Blood: Despite literally being the personification of a warship, Dietra claims to have aristocratic background.
- Cool Helmet: Wears a pickelhaube decorated with eagle feathers.
- Feather Motif: Black eagle feathers, to be more precise. She wears them alongside her pickelhaube, and her uniform is trimmed with them.
- Germanic Depressives: More literal in this case. In her romance path, it is revealed that she suffers from depression, or melancholia, as it was known during the 30s.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: She spots bright red eyes, and is ultimately a personification of a warship, despite being a destroyer.
Hans Lüdemann
Voiced by: Alexandra Matthew
- "Whew. I have a few repairs in my future after that battle! But I can't thank you enough for your help, Kapitän. The name is Hans Lüdemann."
Belle of the destroyer Hans Lüdemann. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Wrench Wench: Spends most of her free time outside battle fixing or tinkering with something.
Light Cruisers (CL)
Emden
Voiced by: N/A
- "I learned a few things from that battle, Kapitän. My name is Emden, and I think I might remain with you - education is of the utmost importance to me."
Belle of the light cruiser Emden. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Badass Preacher: She's a devout Protestant Christian and teacher, who also embodies and commands a 5,400 metric ton warship against an alien invasion.
- Bilingual Bonus: Emden frequently uses German in her story, often times in the middle of an otherwise English sentence and for fairly extensive durations.
- Hot Teacher: Emden serves as one in her story, organizing classes for her crew, referencing her role in training naval cadets before the war. And she is definitely not hard on the eyes.
- Location Theme Naming: Named after the city of Emden.
- Weaponized Headgear: One of the most immediately recognizable aspects of her design is that she wears a pair of naval rifles as part of her hat.
Köln
Voiced by: N/A
- "How heroic you were, Kapitän - like something out of a story! My name is Köln, and I do believe such heroics call for a celebration!"
Belle of the light cruiser Köln. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Bilingual Bonus: Köln breaks from English (or what is presented as such via Translation Convention) very frequently and for fairly extensive stretches of dialog in her story and into not just German, but the regional Kölsch dialect, which may be be somewhat difficult to understand, even for readers familiar with standard High German.
- Location Theme Naming: Named after the city of Cologne.
- Oktoberfest: One of the more egregious examples, in a game otherwise defined by its meticulous research behind character design. Her outfit definitely looks more Bavarian than from the Rhineland, where her namesake city of Cologne is located.
Nürnberg
Voiced by: Skyler Davenport
Belle of the light cruiser Nürnberg. Available as a starter Belle to Kickstarter backers, but will unlock as a regular drop for all players a year after launch.
- Location Theme Naming: Named after the city of Nuremberg.
- Hellish Pupils: A closer look at her design reveals that she has slitted pupils in her already unnatural yellow eyes.
- Irony: One of the most committedly-Nazi and anti-communist Belles was taken as war booty by the Soviet Union after the war.
- Politically Incorrect Hero: Nürnberg is a mostly-pleasant girl who just so happens to be named for one of the most important cities in the history of the Nazi Party and is a true believer in the ideology in a way few other German Belles are. Still, like all Belles, she's on the side of the Morgana War that isn't seeking total annihilation of all humans.
Heavy Cruisers (CA)
Deutschland
Voiced by: N/A
- "Thank you for your help, Kapitän - the Führer would have been most displeased had I lost. My name is Deutschland. If you need a flagship, I'm your girl!"
Belle of the heavy cruiser Deutschland. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Girlish Pigtails: She braids her hair in two pigtails.
- Location Theme Naming: Named after the country of Germany.
- Politically Incorrect Hero: Starts off her story fully subscribed to Nazi theories of racial supremacy and social Darwinism.
- The Teetotaler: She doesn't drink. Period. It stems from an accident during the christening at her launch ceremony.
Admiral Scheer
Voiced by: Unknown
- "I am seldom surprised, Kapitän, and rarely pleasantly. I am Admiral Scheer, and I look forward to studying your exploits."
Belle of the heavy cruiser Admiral Scheer. Available for rescue in the first half of the 1939 December event.
Admiral Graf Spee
Voiced by: Julia Aigner
- "You conducted yourself honourably in that battle. Kapitän. My name is Admiral Graf Spee, and I believe I could serve you with confidence."
Belle of the heavy cruiser Admiral Graf Spee. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Named After Somebody Famous: Named for Maximilian von Spee, commander of the East Asia Squadron during WWI.
- Religious Bruiser: Spee is devoutly Catholic, taking after her namesake, to the point that she maintains a small personal chapel on the ship. She also packs a good punch, being one of the most powerful heavy cruisers at the start of the game in terms of raw firepower.
Admiral Hipper
Voiced by: Karin
- "I nearly let my crew down, Kapitän... but you came to our aid at just the right time. My name is Admiral Hipper. I promise, I won't fail again."
Belle of the heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Named After Somebody Famous: Named for Franz von Hipper, participant in the Battle of Jutland, and later commander of the High Seas Fleet during WWI.
Battleships (BB)
Schleswig-Holstein
Voiced by: N/A
- "Kapitän, my name is Schleswig-Holstein. I was there at the very start of the war - now I hope you'll help me end it."
Belle of the battleship Schleswig-Holstein. Available for rescue in the second half of the 1939 September event.
- Battle Ballgown: She wears her armament on a large crinoline over her skirt.
- Plagued by Nightmares: As she patrols the Baltic, she's suffers nightmares that lead the crew to believe the ship is haunted or has some structural problem.
- Royal "We": Schleswig-Holstein, perhaps befitting her history with the Kaiserliche Marine, tends to use the royal "We" with her crew. She is however generally less formal with her captain and will address herself in the singular when the crew is not around.
- You Can't Go Home Again: Throughout her story, she wishes to return to Danzig, the place where she woke up, but for understandable reasons, the INPF doesn't want her going back there, lest her presence inflame further tensions.
Scharnhorst
Voiced by: Pia Niederwimmer
- "Aren't you just a big, damn hero? Color me impressed, Kapitän. With the mighty Scharnhorst by your side, the Morganas won't stand a chance against you."
Belle of the battleship Scharnhorst. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Artistic License – History: Beyond the game itself, the sharp-eyed viewer might note that Scharnhorst has four triple turrets in her rigging despite the historical ship only ever having three. Developers have said she "presents herself that way for a reason" (players will eventually find out why).
- Named After Somebody Famous:Named after the Prussian general Gerhard von Scharnhorst.
- Putting on the Reich: More than any other German Belle, she dresses the part of a member of the German military.
Gneisenau
Voiced by: Anke Lanak
- "I found the strategy you employed in that battle quite intriguing, Kapitän. My name is Gneisenau... I wonder if I might study your techniques in the future?"
Belle of the battleship Gneisenau. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Named After Somebody Famous:Named after the Prussian field marshal August Neidhardt von Gneisenau.
- No Sense of Personal Space: More like no sense of privacy. She likes to pry into her captain's journal (while they are writing it, no less!), and one incident involves her materialising in the captain's washroom. While they are in it.
- The Strategist: One of her defining traits. She spends most of her introductory story debating/arguing with the captains over tactics and strategy used in the Morgana war.
Submarines (SS)
U-29
Voiced by: N/A
- "While I find the concept of sinking to the sea floor fascinating... I'm content to remain afloat, for now. My name is U-29, Kapitän. Thank you for your help."
Belle of the submarine U-29. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Occult Detective: Spends her free time investigating paranormal occurrences, and in a world where warships are personified into young women, and phantom craft accompanied by hallucinogenic mists appear and attack almost at random, there sure are a lot of them.
U-37
Voiced by: Sarah Wiedenheft
- "I assure you that, despite my dour appearance, I really am quite pleased by your assistance, Kapitän. My name is U-37, and my crew and I thank you."
Belle of the submarine U-37. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Child-Like Voice: Subverted somewhat. Despite her otherwise serious nature, U-37 has a, perhaps uncharacteristic, very high-pitched voice that.
- Glorious Death: At one point in her story she explicitly tells her captain that she hopes to one day die "a warrior's death," which presumably means heroically.
- Hates Small Talk: U-37 is not one for small talk. She'll rather be training or shooting at Morganas instead.
Armed Merchant Cruisers (AMC)
Atlantis
Voiced by: Rahel Martens
- "Kapitän, my name is Atlantis. Thank you for your assistance... That is all I'm able to say."
Belle of the armed merchant cruiser Atlantis. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.
- Badass Cape: Wears a white hooded one fastened with brooches emblazoned with Nordic runes.
- Canine Companion: Her ship's mascot is a Scottish Terrier named Ferry, who also serves as one of her vestures.
- Master of Disguise: Atlantis' powers allow her to shapeshift at will, allowing her to be this trope. Throughout her story, she also instructs her crew on the various ways to disguise a ship.
- Irony: Despite her blonde hair, blue eyes, and service in the Kriegsmarine, she's Jewish. The only reason she's allowed to serve, even with a political officer, is because she also has a certificate of Aryan heritage. Probably doesn't hurt that she's worth about as much as a military asset as a Scharnhorst-class battleship without a Belle would be.
- The Quiet One: Subverted in that she's not doing this willingly. In the first chapter of her story, Atlantis is mostly silent to not cause unnecessary trouble with her minder. She does become more talkative after she and the Captain get rid of him.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: She can assume nearly any human form at will in reference to the many disguises she took as a ship.
