Soldine and his allies

HECU

    Soldine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soldine.png
Proto-Soldine

"No retreat. No surrender."

The main protagonist, a RED Soldier turned into a cybernetic warrior after being gravely wounded by the Mastermind Vagineer. While initially goofy and nonsensical, a second encounter with the monster led him into being rebuilt as a mighty force of justice, who protects Evo City alongside HECU.

  • Anti-Hero: He is solidly on the side of good, but tends to be ruthless in dispensing justice. However, how he deals with evildoers tends to depend on the gravity of their crimes, with lethal force only being used for the likes of the BLU Vagineer and his minions.
  • Arch-Enemy: A mutual one with the BLU Vagineer and to Robosol.
  • Arm Cannon: His main weapon of choice is a Black Box which emerges in place of his arms.
  • Ass Shove: During Soldine vs. Vagineer, Proto-Soldine is on the receiving end when he tries to use his Fartillery and the BLU Vagineer plugs his rear with a detached hand, causing him to explode.
  • Balls of Steel: Groin Attacks prove ineffective against him. Attempts to do it end up badly.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Proto-Soldine. He grows out of it once he is rebuilt.
  • Cyborg: After being rebuilt by the RED Engineer, Soldine is now half-man half-machine, which is even more clear from his second design.
  • Expy: As Proto-Soldine, and as his name indicates, he was one to another TF2 Freak called Scombine. Following his Character Development, however, he no longer qualifies.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He has an electronic eyepatch over his right eye which amplifies his vision.
  • Fartillery: As Proto-Soldine, he had weaponized buttocks which could fire explosives from his rear. It actually gets used against him, as described above in Ass Shove.
  • Flight: He has limited flight, propelling himself via pressured steam that comes out of his rear end.
  • Gatling Good: Beyond his arm-mounted Black Box, he is also able to turn his arm into Sentry Gun barrels.
  • The Hero: The main hero of the series.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Orangeman and the RED Engineer, his best friends.
  • I Shall Taunt You: He sometimes indulges in this when he has the upper hand in combat, such as in his encounters with Team ZOM and Madic.
  • Leitmotif: Disturbed: The Game (Instrumental).
  • Mighty Glacier: While extremely powerful, he is slow on his feet and is not particularly agile.
  • One-Man Army: When fighting things like common zombies, Soldine is practically untouchable and easily able to mop the floor with them like they are nothing. The only enemies who ever give him any trouble are other One-Man Armies.
  • Rocket Punch: He can fire his fists as projectiles, which then grow back out.
  • Shock and Awe: During his Super Mode, he can charge his fist with electricity in order to use the Thunder Punch, his strongest attack.
  • The Stoic: He is usually quiet, and when he speaks, it tends to be in the form of short military jargon. This is in contrast to his Proto form, which was very talkative.
  • Super Mode: He has access to something called a Power Boost, where he unleashes all of his strength for a short period of time. He uses it during life-or-death situations, such as his battle with the BLU Vagineer and Destroyer.
  • Super-Soldier: Thanks to his cybernetics, Soldine is many magnitudes more powerful than the average Team Fortress 2 Soldier.
  • Super-Toughness: Due to his cybernetic enhancements, he can survive things like point-blank rocket explosions completely unscathed. Only other powerful TF2 Freaks are able to pose any real threat to him.
  • Tranquil Fury: His response to Orangeman's death by the hands of Destroyer. He maintained a cold and collected demeanor, but it was clear that he was fuming in barely restrained rage.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: He was recipient to this twice, first as a common RED Soldier who was brought back as Proto-Soldine, and again as the latter, which led to his current appearance. Both times were due to an encounter with the Mastermind Vagineer.

    Orangeman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/orangeman.png
"Couldn't you see the bloody bomb?"

A Demoman dressed in orange who serves as a member of HECU. After an encounter with Soldine while they were both on the hunt for Madic, the two become partners and best friends, working together to protect Evo City.

  • Barrier Warrior: His Freak power is the Shield, which is a small translucent barrier summoned from thin air which he uses to block attacks from the front.
  • Demolitions Expert: Naturally from being a Demoman, Orangeman's main means of combat being a custom grenade launcher which shoots explosives like a rifle would fire bullets.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: He's an orange Demoman. An orangeman, if you would.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Soldine.
  • Glass Cannon: He sports great damage potential with his bombs, but has little in the means of defense beyond his Shield, which is not that strong and only blocks one direction.
  • Killed Off for Real: He is blown up by Destroyer during Endgame, much to Soldine's horror.
  • The Lancer: After they meet, Orangeman becomes Soldine's best friend and greatest ally, and the two spend most of the series fighting alongside one another.
  • Leitmotif: Marine Arrival - Single Survivor.
  • Nice Guy: He is friendly, jovial and protects the innocents of Evo City from harm.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: His specialty, given his armaments is made up of explosives.

    Ghost
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ghost_86.png
"..."

A Mercenary in service of HECU, who has the ability to become intangible. He joins forces with Soldine during the final parts of the series.

  • Cool Shades: His Deus Specs give the impression.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: While he dresses in all black and has a somewhat sinister appearance, he is completely heroic and a loyal soldier of HECU.
  • Intangibility: He has the ability to become intangible on command, which proves to be an extremely useful ability both offensively and defensively.
  • Jack of All Stats: His fighting prowess is balanced across the board in comparison to other TF2 Freaks.
  • Leitmotif: Half-Life - Military Precision.
  • The Quiet One: He never speaks during the course of the series. He can be heard yelling in pain, but presumably chooses to remain silent otherwise.
  • Sixth Ranger: He joins Soldine's allies near the very end of the series, during their efforts to defeat Dr. Schadenfreude.

Other allies

    RED Engineer

"Buildin' a Soldine!"

A RED Engineer who saves Soldine's life after he is almost killed by the BLU Vagineer by turning him into a cyborg. He later upgrades him into a more refined form after a second encounter with the Vagineer.

  • The Generic Guy: Unlike the rest of the cast, this guy is just an ordinary Engineer, though one intelligent enough to turn someone into a cyborg.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: After turning Soldine into a cyborg, the two of them became close friends, with Soldine living in the Engineer's house alongside the rest of the RED team.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: He did this to Soldine, turning him into a cyborg to save him after he was almost killed by the BLU Vagineer.

    Energineer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/energineer.png
"Not fast enough!"

An Engineer dressed in purple who acts as a vigilante, unaffiliated with HECU. After being left for dead by Dr. Schadenfreude, he rebuilt himself as a cyborg in order to enact justice.

  • Arm Cannon: He has a Short Circuit in place of his right hand, but unlike the real weapon from Team Fortress 2, his fires bullets and electric blasts.
  • Cyborg: He wears a mechanical exoskeleton which makes him one.
  • Energy Weapons: His Short Circuit primarily functions like this.
  • Flash Step: His main ability, called the Jolt, allows him to do this.
  • Fragile Speedster: He lacks destructive power, but makes up for it by being extremely fast and hard to hit.
  • Leitmotif: Half-Life - Hard Technology Rock.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Energineer has nothing going for him in melee, but makes up for it with his ranged abilities.
  • Shock and Awe: He can fire electric blasts from his Short Circuit, either as a continuous lightning bolt or as rapid bursts of energy.
  • Shout-Out: His armor is the same worn by Isaac Clarke, the protagonist of Dead Space.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: Did this to himself, after Dr. Schadenfreude and Cryo left him for dead.

Villainous forces

The Zombie Army

    The Mastermind Vagineer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mastermindvagineer.png
"Norom a fo eutats a 'nitcere!"

A BLU Vagineer who was responsible for Soldine's turning into a cyborg. Possessing a great intellect and cunning, he seeks to destroy Evo City with an army of zombies. He serves as the first main antagonist of the series.

  • Arch-Enemy: Of Soldine, being the one responsible for most of the cyborg's woes, including him having to be rebuilt into a cyborg in the first place.
  • Big Bad: Of the first two thirds of the series.
  • Evil Genius: He is very intelligent, and uses science to create his zombie minions.
  • Evil Laugh: He has his fair share of moments doing this through the series.
  • Healing Factor: Thanks to being a Vagineer, the Mastermind is able to heal from most wounds in a matter of seconds. It takes exploding him into pieces outright for him to finally die.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Comes from being a Vagineer.
  • Killed Off for Real: He meets his end in Operation: Vagineer, after Soldine uses his Thunder Punch to send him flying into his laboratory's machinery, causing him to explode.
  • Leitmotif: Aliens vs Predator - If Anything Moves, Shoot It.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He is by far the strongest character in the series (with the possible exception of Destroyer, who was directly created from this guy's genes), easily able to overpower and outspeed Soldine and anyone else who tries to fight him.
  • Sdrawkcab Speech: Like every other Vagineer, he speaks everything backwards, which makes him The Unintelligible to the viewer. His minions seem to be able to understand him, however.
  • Start of Darkness: A flashback in Operation: Vagineer reveals he was previously the Engineer of an incompetent BLU team (of which the individuals who would later become Orangeman and Madic also originate) until he was converted into a monster by the Original Vagineer, leading him to slaughter the rest of his team and eventually bring them back as Team ZOM and Robosol using Madic's chemicals.
  • Super Mode: He is able to self-ÃœberCharge, which catches Soldine off guard during their fight. In this state, he is able to take down Soldine even with his Power Boost active.
  • Super-Scream: He can scream with such force that Soldine is pushed back by it.
  • Take Over the World: His ultimate goal is to do this with the use of his zombie army.

    Robosol
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robosol.png
"Robot noises!"

A zombie cyborg in the image of Soldine, created by the Mastermind Vagineer using the corpse of his former BLU Soldier teammate. He serves as the Vagineer's right hand man and as one of Soldine's most dangerous foes.

    Team ZOM
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/teamzom.png
"Right behind you."
ZomSpy

A quintet of five zombified TF2 Freaks, created by the Mastermind Vagineer from the corpses of his former BLU teammates who serve as the leaders of his zombie army alongside Robosol. The team is made up of ZomScout, ZomPyro, ZomHeavy, ZomSniper and ZomSpy.

  • Artificial Zombie: They are zombies raised using science by the BLU Vagineer.
  • Flat Character: They basically exist to give Soldine and Orangeman a chance to demonstrate their abilities in the battle for Evo City, having very little personality of their own.
  • Fragile Speedster: ZomScout is very fast, but is weak enough that HECU are able to dispatch him without the help of either Soldine or Orangeman.
  • Glass Cannon: Both ZomSniper and ZomSpy are deadly with their weapons, but Soldine and Orangeman quickly dispose of them as soon as they get close.
  • Invisibility: ZomSpy can go invisible.
  • Killed Off for Real: They are each killed by Soldine, Orangeman and the HECU troopers over the course of Necropolis.
  • Leitmotif: Half-Life - Adrenaline Horror.
  • Mighty Glacier: ZomHeavy, who is strong enough to throw a car and knock Soldine away with his punches.
  • Playing with Fire: ZomPyro, naturally, uses a flamethrower as his weapon.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: They serve as this, with Soldine, Orangeman and HECU having to deal with each of them when they attack Evo City.

The Aberrants

    Dr. Schadenfreude
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drschadenfreude.png
"Prepare."

A gray-colored Medic who sports psychic abilities, Dr. Schadenfreude uses his knowledge of genetic engineering in order to create an army of aberrants with unusual powers. He serves as the final main antagonist of the series.

  • Arch-Enemy: To Energineer, after he killed his team and left him for dead.
  • Big Bad: Of the final third of the series, after the Mastermind Vagineer is out of the picture.
  • The Cameo: He makes an extended one in Australium Unleashed, where he tries to brainwash CyborMedic during the finale. The latter manages to resist him, however.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: He has prominent black sclera.
  • Dark Is Evil: He dresses in dark, sports sinister powers and seeks the downfall of the heroes.
  • Evil Genius: An evil scientist, leading over an army of experiments.
  • Glass Cannon: Despite his dangerous abilities, he is only as strong as a common person in physical terms. It only takes a single headshot from Energineer to finish him off after he is cornered.
  • Leitmotif: Black Mesa - Residue Processing.
  • Killed Off for Real: Meets his end in the final part of Endgame, via a shot to the head from Energineer, coincidentally at the same time as Soldine kills Destroyer.
  • Mind over Matter: He has telekinetic powers, which he uses to throw both objects and people during combat.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: As he is a scientist and not a fighter, he keeps away from the front-lines, and dies much quicker than the Mastermind Vagineer when the heroes manage to corner him.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Corrupting Major Scout Guy was a good idea until Soldine broke him free from the mind control, causing him and the other heroes to join up to hunt him down.
  • Power Floats: He can use his psychic powers to float in midair.
  • Telepathy: He has telepathic abilities which allows him to influence the minds of his enemies. He demonstrates this when he briefly turns Major Scout Guy against Soldine.

    Cryo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cryo_5.png
"..."

A light-blue Pyro with power over ice who serves as Dr. Schadenfreude's main enforcer.

  • Co-Dragons: To Dr. Schadenfreude alongside Razor.
  • Flat Character: He serves as Dr. Schadenfreude's silent enforcer, and that is about as much character as he gets.
  • An Ice Person: As indicated by his name, Cryo has ice abilities, particularly being able to fire sharp icicles from his palms, or covering himself in ice before throwing himself at his foe.
  • Jack of All Stats: He is a balanced character by TF2 Freak terms, not exceeding in any role.
  • Killed Off for Real: He is killed by Energineer when he hits his air tank with a lightning bolt, causing it to explode and reducing Cryo to pieces in the process.
  • The Speechless: He never utters a word during the whole series. Unlike other silent characters, Cryo does not even yell in pain when hurt.

    Razor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/razor_5.png
"This is as good as you're gonna do."

A gray-colored Sniper who serve as one of Dr. Schadenfreude's enforces. He has power over metal, which he uses in his role as a professional killer.

  • Co-Dragons: To Dr. Schadenfreude alongside Cryo.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: He has the ability to shape metal to suit his needs, such as creating fully functional weapons out of the ground, or covering himself in metal in order to protect himself.
  • Gun Nut: He primarily uses his metal bending ability to create various fully-functional firearms for himself.
  • Jack of All Stats: He is a balanced character by TF2 Freak terms, not exceeding in any role.
  • Leitmotif: Black Mesa - We've Got Hostiles.
  • Professional Killer: He is one according to his official description.
  • Punched Across the Room: Ends up subject to this in his fight with Major Scout Guy in Endgame.
  • Super Mode: He has one called the Steel Mode, where he covers himself in a layer of metal for defense and then starts growing weapons out of it, essentially serving as a living turret.

    Shriek
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shriek_7.png
"I'm runnin' circles around ya!"

A gray-colored Scout who is one of Razor's direct subordinates. He has the ability to launch soundwaves from his hands in order to fight his enemies.

    Golem
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/golem_16.png
"More rubble, less trouble!"

A gray-colored Heavy who is one of Razor's direct subordinates. He has the ability to manipulate the earth in order to defeat his enemies.

  • The Comically Serious: When paired with Shriek, who finds it fun to make fun of Golem's serious demeanor.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He has the power of manipulating earth, which he uses to summon pillars of rock, or create boulders to throw at his enemies.
  • Leitmotif: Black Mesa - We've Got Hostiles.
  • Stone Wall: While he does not have much destructive power, he is largely unfazed by most of the heroes' effort to hurt him. Only Major Scout Guy's Super Mode is able to make him actually feel pain from a blow.
  • The Stoic: He is mostly silent, something which Shriek makes fun of.

    Destroyer (spoilers!)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/destroyer_4.png
"[low-pitched scream]"

Dr. Schadenfreude's greatest weapon, Destroyer is an Aberrant created from the genetic material of the Mastermind Vagineer following the latter's death. He has the ability to cause remote objects to explode.

  • Facial Horror: He has a disfigured mouth.
  • Flat Character: Beyond being Dr. Schadenfreude's superweapon and Soldine's final foe, he does not have much more characterization. Not helped by the fact he either can't or won't communicate verbally.
  • Healing Factor: He can heal from minor injuries to the point he charges a group of HECU soldiers shooting him and simply shrugs off the bullets, with the wounds closing immediately afterwards.
  • Hero Killer: He kills both Major Lewis from HECU and Orangeman in Endgame.
  • Humanoid Abomination: More so than any of Dr. Schadenfreude's other Aberrants, especially since he is technically half-Vagineer.
  • Killed Off for Real: After a fierce battle, Soldine uses his Thunder Punch to destroy him, simultaneously with Energineer killing Dr. Schadenfreude.
  • Leitmotif: Tekkaman Blade - Drifting in Vacuum.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He is extremely strong and is fairly agile on his feet, putting him at least at the same level as the BLU Vagineer who served as his template. He is one of the only characters in the whole series to put Soldine under serious danger during their long-spanning final battle.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Destroyer.
  • The Quiet One: He spends most of his screentime silent, only occasionally letting out a low-pitched scream. The fact he can emote at all visibly surprises Shriek during a brief exchange between the two.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: He sports the ability to cause objects to explode, which proves deadly against living beings. Most dangerous is the fact he can do it from a distance by putting his palms on the ground.
  • Super-Soldier: Among Dr. Schadenfreude's Aberrants, Destroyer is by far the most powerful, being enough of a match for Soldine.
  • Walking Spoiler: He only appears at the end of the series to serve as Soldine's ultimate enemy.

Other characters

    Handsome Rogue
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/handsomerogue.png
"Za Warudo!"

An exceptionally cruel and malevolent Spy dressed in yellow who is first seen terrorizing Evo City until Soldine hunts him down. He has the ability to heal his wounds using blood and is able to temporarily stop time.

  • Ambiguously Related: To Doppelganger. Their exact relationship is a mystery, but they clearly know each other.
  • Back from the Dead: He is killed by Soldine in Soldine vs. Handsome Rogue, but is resurrected by the BLU Vagineer later in order to serve under him.
  • Car Fu: A variation in that, during his Time Stop, he will attempt to crush his enemies with a train, known as the Pain Engine.
  • Expy: Of DIO, sharing most of his powers, though Handsome Rogue does not use a Fighting Spirit to stop time.
  • Flechette Storm: He throws his knives this way.
  • For the Evulz: Out of the villains in the series, Handsome Rogue is the most prone to killing for its own sake, simply because it amuses him.
  • Heal Thyself: He can heal his wounds by draining the blood out of people through his fingers, as demonstrated in Soldine vs. Handsome Rogue.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Following his death at Soldine's hands, Handsome Rogue became more cautious about his fights and will retreat if things start going south. This is exemplified in Operation: Vagineer, where after being bested by Ninjineer, he immediately gets the hell out of dodge.
  • Leitmotif: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future - Shadow DIO's Theme.
  • Jack of All Stats: He is a balanced character by TF2 Freak terms, not exceeding in any role.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Given his inspiration, he has similar characteristics to the vampires from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. However, he does not have elongated fangs and is unhindered by sunlight, leaving it ambiguous whether he really is a vampire or not.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has red eyes and is one of the most overtly malevolent characters in the series.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: During Operation: Vagineer, after being beaten by Ninjineer, Handsome Rogue takes the chance to run away from the BLU Vagineer's service.
  • Time Stop: His greatest ability is being able to temporarily halt time, leaving only him able to move around. During this, he will usually assault his enemies while they are helpless, or crush them under his Pain Engine.
  • Wild Card: Handsome Rogue isn't associated with either the BLU Vagineer or Dr. Schadenfreude (though the former briefly forces him into his service during Operation: Vagineer), and simply does whatever he pleases.
  • The Worf Effect:
    • Energineer introduces himself in The Vigilante by defeating Handsome Rogue in battle.
    • He is also on the receiving end of this during Endgame, where he is one of the Freaks defeated by Destroyer.

    Madic
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madic.png
"I'm ze man who vill kill you!"

An irate Medic who becomes stronger the angrier he is. One of Soldine's earlier foes, he is eventually defeated and sent to the Evo City Correctional Facility.

  • Ax-Crazy: Unsurprisingly given his name, but this is Madic's most prominent trait.
  • Character Development: He has the most visible development out of any character sans Soldine himself. After being sent to the Correctional Facility, he receives treatment for his rage and is eventually able to gain control over it, leading him to change sides later in the story and become one of Soldine's allies.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After spending time regaining his mind at the Evo City Correctional Facility, Madic was taken into the service of the BLU Vagineer, only to switch sides and willingly surrender to Soldine in Operation: Vagineer. After that, he became one of the cyborg's main allies, working directly with HECU.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: He's revealed to have eaten Orangeman alive after Soldine beats him in Soldine vs. Madic.
  • In a Single Bound: He usually attacks by leaping a great distance at his enemies while unseen.
  • Jack of All Stats: He is a balanced character by TF2 Freak terms, not exceeding in any role.
  • Leitmotif: Disturbed - Meaning Of Life (instrumental).
  • Mad Scientist: He went mad from his team's incompetence and used chemicals on himself, leading to him becoming a TF2 Freak.
  • No-Sell: Among his more unusual abilities is a complete immunity to explosive damage, making Soldine's rockets and Orangeman's bombs useless against him.
  • Start of Darkness: He was originally the Medic of a particularly incompetent BLU team (which would later become the BLU Vagineer and his minions), who eventually snapped and abandoned them. Afterwards, he consumed chemicals which turned him into his current state.
  • Super-Scream: He can scream extremely loudly, though Soldine is able to No-Sell it.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Madic is extremely ill-tempered and becomes stronger the angrier he gets, enough that he can briefly stand toe-to-toe against Soldine.
