Plants

    Green Shadow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/green_shadow_website.png
Green Shadow's approach is right down the middle.
Little known fact: When she takes off the cape and mask, she goes by the name Penelopea.

Classes: Mega-Grow, Smarty

  • Code Name: "Green Shadow" is her codename, her actual name is Penelopea.
  • The Cowl: Appears to be this type of superhero, in contrast to Super Brainz, and even wears a hood and cloak.
  • Distaff Counterpart: To the normal Peashooters, which are mostly male.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Her Signature Superpower "Precision Blast" fires an aimed shot down the middle lane, dealing 5 damage to whoever it hits.
  • In the Hood: Wears a hood and cloak as her costume.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Peashooter.
  • Logical Weakness: Being extremely mobile doesn't do her any good when she gets trapped in jelly.
  • Power Glows: When using a superpower or appearing, Green Shadow's eyes and mouth glow yellow.
  • Starter Mon: You start the game with only her unlocked on the plants' side.
  • Super-Reflexes: Incredibly agile and mobile, as shown in her comic; the zombies struggle to even touch her for a while.
  • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: She has pale yellow eyes and is a stealthy and agile Plant Hero.

    Solar Flare
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solar_flare_website.png
Solar Flare never met a sunscreen strong enough to stop her.
When she's on fire, she's on FIRE. And so are the Zombies.

Classes: Kabloom, Solar

  • Adventures in Comaland: After being Locked in a Freezer during The Legend of Heroes, the temperature drops low enough that Flare slips into a comatose state and nearly freezes to death. The only thing that saves her is this trope, where she first dreams of her childhood, then of a wish to get out now. When Green Shadow finds her, the freezer is blown up with a recovering Flare in the epicenter of the blast.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: That's not a superhero uniform; The Legend of Heroes suggests Flare's had that getup since she was a child.
  • Child-Like Voice: Despite being old enough to be in college, she sounds and acts childish.
  • Continuity Snarl: Much like Grass Knuckles, her backstory in the manhuas contradicts the game; while the latter depicts her pre-Herotron self as a generic Sunflower, the former insists her "uniform" is actually her civilian clothing which she's worn since childhood.
  • Free-Range Children: Often ran off to do her own thing as a child without much adult supervision. It's unfortunately rather justified; when your mom and dad are always off in another continent, there's not much else you can turn to for company and entertainment.
  • Gamer Chick: She seems to love video games.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: They seem to be the device which allows Solar Flare to transform into pure fire (barring her t-shirt.)
  • Idle Rich: Revealed to have been a rich kid in her childhood during the manhuas, developing a free spirit thanks to both her parents always being away overseas. As an adult, she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer and doesn't have a day job besides superheroics, but the things she's done for others with her gifts have led to powerful connections.
  • Kid-Appeal Character: Even if she's not actually a child, she definitely looks, sounds, and acts the part. The Chinese story The Legend of Heroes, however, suggests she's a college student.
  • Kid Hero: Subverted. While she sounds far younger than anyone else on the team and certainly acts the part, The Legend of Heroes reveals she's old enough to be in college.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Sunflower.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Having a ridiculously over-arching superpower doesn't matter if the user is too childish to use it. So the zombies simply decide to join Solar Flare at the arcade under the pretense of an assault, rendering her just as useless as any of the other heroes once they've been disabled through other means.
    • The Legend of Heroes gives a more straightforward example, where Flare gets Locked in a Freezer by Lava Guava off-duty. Unlike all of the other heroes being defeated through their weaknesses, however, it's explicitly shown that she would've died right then and there if not for a brief Adventures in Comaland sequence giving her the Heroic Willpower to trigger a massive explosion that shuts down the cooling system.
  • Playing with Fire: Her Signature Superpower "Sunburn" damages a zombie for 2 damage and also allows her to obtain extra resources.
  • Power Incontinence: Downplayed. One of her idle animations shows her hiccupping and subsequently flickering in and out of her fire form, but nothing dangerous has ever come out of her powers.
  • Secret Identity: Averted; the manhuas suggest Flare does not bother to make any distinction between her civilian and superhero identities.
  • Shout-Out: To the Human Torch, since she's a superhero who can "flame on".
  • Slave to PR: The Legend of Heroes manhua shows Flare having to distance herself from Penelopea often due to a number of PR disasters caused by the zombies and even her own friends being overdramatic. This has apparently been a problem since childhood.
  • Stepford Smiler: Downplayed; while a franchise like PvZ would quite obviously never let Flare hit enough of a low point to play the trope straight, the manhuas end up revealing her life isn't as peachy as you'd expect it to be underneath that smile and Genki Girl attitude. Her home life was lonelier than most, she's the only hero to be portrayed as coming close to actually dying and being suitably stressed out from such an experience, she's been cheated out of valuable academic opportunities in school, and her relationship with Penelopea is strained beneath the surface due to both being a Slave to PR.
  • Sunny Sunflower Disposition: Like the Sunflowers from the PVZ series, she's got a cheerful disposition. That doesn't stop her from turning up the heat, though.
  • The Power of the Sun: Her signature super "Sunburn" does 2 damage to a target of her choice and gives her +1 extra sun at the start of every turn for the rest of the match.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: The manhuas reveal she and Penelopea get into Let's You and Him Fight situations semi-frequently, which neither of them have completely forgiven the other for, and due to both being a Slave to PR likely never will when there's a whole world out there to save. Regardless, they're still best friends and their cooperation never has to be squeezed out of them.

    Wall Knight
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wall_knight_website.png
Wall-Knight laughs "A thousand broken nutcrackers tell the story."
He's a great guy - he just sometimes has a hard time coming out of his shell.

Classes: Guardian, Solar

  • Blue Is Heroic: Wears armors in various shades of blue, and is also a heroic Plant Hero.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Wall-Nut.
  • Logical Weakness: While Wall-Knight is Nigh-Invulnerable with his armor on, he's not immovable which makes him susceptible to knockback or getting thrown around. The Smash and Brain Freeze quickly capitalize on this and grab him, then use him like a golf ball.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: No attacks will even scratch him when his Powered Armor is active. His Signature Superpower "Uncrackable" makes him don his armor for a turn.
  • One-Hit Kill: Is notable for having the most reliable instant-kill tricks/teammates out of the Plants, since the Solar Class has Whack-A-Zombie, Lawnmower, Squash, Briar Rose, and Tactical Cuke, while the Guardian Class has Shamrocket and Doom-Shroom.
  • Powered Armor: His armor is what makes him so impossible to harm, though during normal gameplay, unless using a superpower, he keeps it shut off save for a belt.

    Chompzilla
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_893.png
Chompzilla enjoys eating Zombies whole. She does not enjoy the indigestion that follows.
She flosses after every meal and still, Zombie Breath is a real problem.

Classes: Mega-Grow, Solar

  • Coup de Grâce: Her Signature Superpower "Devour" eats the zombie with the lowest health. Oftentimes it's the one that's been damaged the most.
  • Expy: Chompers in general are this to Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors, but Chompzilla in particular resembles Biollante.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Is capable of eating Zombies whole, even Gargantuars. Her Signature Superpower "Devour" lets her eat the zombie with the lowest health for a One-Hit Kill.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Chomper.
  • Logical Weakness: Getting her mouth stuck shut prevents her from eating zombies. Brain Freeze thus freezes her mouth.
  • No Eyes: Like all Chompers, Chompzilla has no eyes.
  • Man-Eating Plant: Standard for a Chomper.
  • The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: In a few missions Chompzilla is able to play Wild Berry, a plant from the Kabloom class, despite not being a Kabloom Hero herself.
  • The Power of the Sun: Implied by what appears to be a miniature sun behind her in combat, one of her generic Superpowers(shared with Solar Flare) creates a miniature sun to weaken Zombies on the ground, and her being in the Solar class.
  • Your Size May Vary: Her size fluctuates a lot in the various comic strips she appears in. At the very least she's bigger than the average Zombie.

    Spudow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spudow_website.png
Spudow is one tranquil tuber. Still, sometimes he loses his head.
Always tries to keep his head in tough situations. Always loses it.

Classes: Kabloom, Guardian

  • Detachment Combat: Is capable of throwing his mine head as an explosive and regrowing it, and his Signature Superpower "Tater Toss" spawns a Hothead Potato Mine that deals 6 damage to the zombie that destroys it.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite his tremendous size he's quite well-mannered. In his victory art, he can be seen holding a flower pot gently.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Potato Mine.
  • Logical Weakness: In order to throw his head like an explosive and regenerate it, he needs to be able to detach it. Super Brainz figures that out and uses his cape to tie down Spudow's head so that he can't pull it off.
  • Shout-Out: His appearance makes him look like a potato version of Baymax.

    Citron
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/citron_website.png
Orange you glad Citron is here to protect you?
Wanted to be a poet, but couldn't find anything that rhymed with orange.

Classes: Guardian, Smarty

    Grass Knuckles
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grass_knuckles_website_2.png
"Knuckle sandwiches for all my enemies!"
He's the best at what he does... and what he does is punching!

Classes: Mega-Grow, Guardian

  • Continuity Snarl: The opening cutscene depicts him being an average Bonk Choy among Green Shadow and various other plants at the front lines when the Hero-Tron exploded. However, when he's properly unlocked, he's given a new origin story that shows him as a scrawny, weak nerd in a gym when he was hit by the Hero-Tron.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Bonk Choy.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Definitely quite powerful with his punches, but quite agile too. It's why he's been undefeated for so long in the obstacle course shown in his comic.
  • Mad Eye: Like all Bonk Choys, one of his eyes is smaller than the other and constantly squints.
  • Morphic Resonance: When he was hit by the Hero-Tron, Grass Knuckles' red Nerd Glasses become a mask.
  • Punny Name: Of grass (relating to his leafy "hair") and brass knuckles (weapons that fit around the knuckles and are used in hand-to-hand combat, fitting for a Plant Hero who packs a punch).
  • Red Is Heroic: He wears a red mask, red wristbands around his arms, and his LEAF emblem is red, and he's a powerful Plant Hero.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: His Signature Superpower "Power Pummel" causes him to rapidly punch down all ground lanes, dealing 2 damage down each. If no Zombies are in any of the ground lanes, the Zombie Hero will take the full brunt of the attack.
  • Shout-Out: According to Word of God, he's based off of Wolverine, with his scrappy attitude and spiked fists being a parallel to Wolverine's claws. His description is even a play on Wolverine's iconic phrase "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do isn't very nice."
  • Wolverine Publicity: A minor, in-universe case; he shows up in every Plant mission comic in some capacity, whether it's a starring role or only on the cover. He even shows up in some Zombie mission comics too alongside who's supposed to be the main opponent. As a bonus, Word of God states that he's based on Wolverine himself.

    Nightcap
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/night_cap_website.png
Nightcap and his mushroom friends are not to be truffled with.
He's a fun guy.

Classes: Kabloom, Smarty

  • Ambiguous Species: It's unclear what type of mushroom plant he's based on. The biggest candidate is Scaredy-shroom, appearance (tall and lean with a mushroom cap that has a gap in it) and behavior-wise (Nightcap hides his face in his scarf when on low health, almost like Scaredy-shroom when zombies get too close to him), but he has a regular mouth like Fume-shroom, which throws it into question.
  • Artistic License – Biology: He's labeled as a Plant Hero, but just like his fellow fungi, mushrooms aren't plants.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He has a darker color scheme than the other characters, with mostly purple and black. However, he's a Plant Hero who fights for good.
  • King Mook: A superpowered mushroom; however, it's not clear what specific mushroom he is.
  • Logical Weakness: Being able to summon a swarm of mushrooms makes all of them particularly vulnerable to Brainstorm's zapper which has a chain lightning sort of effect.
  • Ninja: He's basically a ninja mushroom, and even uses Smoke Out to both enter and exit the fight.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: According to his original designer, Kevin Hanna suggests that Nightcap may be genderfluid based on the rationale that "fungi are capable of mating with any of their species", implying that this Nightcap and the one in Battle For Neighborville may actually be one and the same.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: A shadowy eastern dragon soars about while Nightcap uses his Mush-Boom.
  • Perpetual Frowner: It's very rare that Nightcap ever smiles in-game.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Zomboss says that he sleeps with a teddy bear.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: He wears a large black scarf and is a powerful mushroom Ninja.
  • Smoke Out: Enters and leaves the battle in an explosion of purple smog.
  • Summon Magic: Is capable of summoning smaller Poison Mushrooms. His Signature Superpower "Mush-Boom" places down a Poison Mushroom teammate and deals 2 damage to a Zombie should there be one in the lane.

    Rose
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rose_website.png
Rose turns Zombies into goats because... GOATS!
Refuses to be nerfed.

Classes: Solar, Smarty

  • Adaptational Badass: Her Goatify ability was stated in Garden Warfare 2 to not work on bosses, which amounts to regular Zombies like Foot Soldiers and Super Brainz. In this game, it's powerful enough to transform the Smash, the Zombie's strongest hero, in her comic.
  • Canon Immigrant: She originated from Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 and appears in this game as a playable Hero.
  • Forced Transformation: Her Signature Superpower "Goatify" returns from Garden Warfare with the same ability, transforming the zombie with the highest Strength into a nearly-useless 1/1 Goat.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard:
    • Of all things, Goat got buffed to give itself +1/+1 whenever a Goat is hurt. Normally, this would be a useless ability since the Goat has 1 Health, but a clever Zombie player can buff the Goat with a trick like Maniacal Laugh, causing it to become a much bigger problem for Rose herself.
    • Her battle comic also has her accidentally Goatify herself thanks to Super Brainz unknowingly reflecting the ray.
  • Logical Weakness: Rose's Goatify spell is a ray, and as such can be deflected back to her by something reflective like Super Brainz' mirror.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: She'll give out one at various times, in particular when scoring big damage on the opponent or using a Superpower.
  • Something about a Rose: Like in the other games, she's a rose sorceress alluding to the flower's magical motifs.

    Captain Combustible
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captain_combustible_website.png
Captain Combustible knows how to light a fire under his teammates.
If you want to see him blow his top, try calling him "Stumpy". Go on. Try it.

Classes: Kabloom, Mega-Grow

  • Berserk Button: Being called "Stumpy" will make him lose it, as his flavor text says.
  • Blue Is Heroic: He has blue flames and is a powerful Plant Hero.
  • Eye Lights Out: Non-lethal example; when at low health or defeated the flames in his eyes peter out, revealing his real eyes.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: He wears gold armor and is a superpowered Torchwood able to empower other plants with his flames.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Torchwood.
  • Logical Weakness: He uses the flames on his head to provide fire element Super-Empowering to his peashooter army. Super Brainz thus uses the water in Neptuna's fishbowl to put that out, neutralizing him.
  • Playing with Fire: Uses his fire powers to boost his teammates.
  • Super-Empowering: He's able to empower his teammates with flame to make them gain fire powers, and his Signature Superpower "Blazing Bark" does that by giving a Plant +4 Strength.
  • Tactical Rock–Paper–Scissors: Super Brainz defeats Captain Combustible by using Neptuna's fish bowl to extinguish his flames.
  • Technicolor Fire: Normally his flames are a bright neon blue, but when using Blazing Bark a number of flames that rapidly shift colors billow around him.

    Beta-Carrotina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hd_betacarrot_image.png
The modifications are controversial sure. But the results are hard to argue with.
As leader of the Plant-etary Guard, she's ready to root out Zombies wherever they crop up.

Classes: Guardian, Smarty

  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: She and her crew can breathe in space.
  • LEGO Genetics: She's capable of inducing this via her powers. Her Signature Superpower "Genetic Amplification" does this by conjuring a random 2-sun cost plant, and gives it +1/+1, Amphibious, and Team-Up.
  • Mook Bouncer: Is the only Hero with the Superpower Ensign Uproot, a teammate that can move either a plant or zombie teammate when played.
  • Punny Name: She's named after Beta-Carotene, an orange pigment found in fruits/vegetables, and Carrot, which is especially rich in that.
  • Smug Smiler: A smug smile is her default expression.
  • Space Police: She's part of the Plant-etary Guard, and even has two followers in Lieutenant Carrotron and Ensign Uproot.
  • Temporary Online Content: Downplayed somewhat; though the opportunity rarely presents itself, Beta-Carrotina can only be obtained from a special pack in the shop and cannot be obtained normally like other Heroes.

Zombies

    Super Brainz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/super_brainz_website.png
It's just Super Brainz' way of sharing the wonder of flight with his fellow Zombies.
His most heroic quality is his hairstyle.

Classes: Brainy, Sneaky

  • Canon Immigrant: From Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.
  • The Cape: Heavily modeled after this type of superhero, in contrast to Green Shadow.
  • Clark Kenting: At the end of his mission after the plants beat him up, Super Brainz flees while wearing a jacket and glasses. Nobody recognizes him.
  • Distracted by My Own Sexy: He just can't help but admire himself in a mirror whenever he has a chance. It proves to be his downfall in his mission where in the midst of the fight he is distracted by a mirror shop.
  • Expy: Of Superman.
  • Flying Brick: Has the ability of flight. Coupled with his strength, he can easily carry heavy objects. His signature Superpower "Carried Away" even references this, causing him to move a Zombie, then causing it to do a bonus attack.
  • Genius Bruiser: He may be big and strong, but he's also quite tactical and intelligent, even if he takes a while to think up solutions. He ties down Spudow's head with his cape to keep him from throwing it and uses Neptuna's fishbowl to extinguish Captain Combustible.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Browncoat Zombie.
  • Lantern Jaw of Justice: While the "justice" part may be debatable due to being one of the Zombies, he does sport a pretty huge chin.
  • Logical Weakness: His narcissism causes him to get easily distracted by a mirror shop, allowing the Plant Heroes to get the jump on him.
  • Purple Is Powerful: The Flying Brick of a superhero has more than a bit of purple on his suit.
  • Pride: Is heavily obsessed with his own image, and usually brings a mirror with him to look at himself with it.
  • Secondary Color Nemesis: He wears primarily purple and orange, and is a villainous Zombie Hero.
  • Starter Mon: You start the game with only him unlocked on the zombies' side.
  • Super Hero: Despite being one character, he parodies the superhero genre itself.

    The Smash
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_smash_website.png
The Smash's wrestling moves are real alright. Too real. Just ask any Plant.
The Smash enjoys...SMASHING!

Classes: Hearty, Beastly

  • Determinator: If his introductory comic is to be believed.
"He'll stop at nothing...to get what he wants!"
  • King Mook: A superpowered Gargantuar.
  • Logical Weakness: No amount of strength or toughness will help if you're being hit at high speed by a Nigh-Invulnerable and thus far tougher material...like a thrown Wall-Knight.
  • Masked Luchador: Wears stereotypical luchador getup and is indeed a powerful wrestler.
  • Sidekick: Like all Gargantuars, he has an Imp riding on his back. While no official job has been given for the Imp, he still seems to be a good friend to the Smash.
  • Super-Strength: Can level a house with a shockwave smash alone. His Signature Superpower "Slammin' Smackdown" uses his superior strength to instantly destroy a Plant Teammate with 4 or lower attack.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In his mission, the original ending comic featured him slamming the plants and winning the bout. Averted when the in-game comics were redrawn, which has him get taken out by Wall-Knight as mentioned above.
    Impfinity
He believes good things come in small packages. And in threes.
  • Amusement Park of Doom: His associated arena is an amusement park and his theme is gradually intensifying cheesy carnival music. The first mission centered around him kicks off because he creates a horde of clones to overtake the park for himself.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He's mischievous, goofy, and one of his idle animations has him scratch himself like a dog... but is a dangerous supervillain.
  • Genki Boy: He's cheery, energetic, laughs a lot, and is a villainous example.
  • Giggling Villain: Imps in general laugh a lot, but Impfinity takes it up a notch.
  • Graceful Loser: Despite his attempt to invade Sharkbite Shores Amusement Park in "Impfinity's Wild Ride" being thwarted, he takes losing well with no indications of a Villainous Breakdown.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Imp, the first of three Imp Heroes.
  • Leitmotif: His theme is carnival music that slowly intensifies, befitting of a silly and childish Genki Boy like himself.
  • Logical Weakness: Impfinity uses the device on his body to clone himself. A powerful enough attack on it such as Green Shadow's Precision Blast will make it malfunction and cause the clones to disappear.
  • Perpetual Smiler: He often has a big goofy grin on his face.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Even if he doesn't seem small for Imp standards, he's still tiny. Still, do not think this means he can't hold his own in a fight.
  • Punny Name: Of Imp (referring to the enemy he's based on) and "infinity" (referencing his ability to clone himself).
  • Self-Duplication: Like his Meaningful Name suggests, he can use the device on his body to make clones of himself. His Signature Superpower "Triple Threat" spawns two Amphibious Impfinity Clones in random lanes.
    Rustbolt
He enjoys keeping his bolts tight and his screws loose.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: He can breathe in space without issue, as "Code Orange! Citron Invades!" shows.
  • Expy: Of Iron Man, being a relatively normal human/zombie in a flight-capable Powered Armor.
  • Improbable Weapon User: A toaster and a spatula, both emerging from his wrist. The former is used whenever he blocks, while the latter is used to whack Green Shadow in one comic.
    "LAWL-SPATULA DEPLOYED!"
  • King Mook: Another superpowered Browncoat Zombie.
  • Logical Weakness: His armor is magnetic, and a scrapyard magnet is enough to make him helpless.
  • One-Hit Kill: Rustbolt is notable for having One-Hit Kill tricks that can target any non-untrickable plant regardless of their strength. Weed Spray and Rolling Stone destroy plants with 2 or less strength(Rolling Stone takes out one while Weed Spray destroys all of them), Knockout destroys everything in a lane with 3 or less, Rocket Science destroys those with 4 or more, and his Cut Down To Size Superpower destroys those with 5 or more.
  • Powered Armor: His "superpower" is actually his suit, which was originally a discarded vending machine that got zapped by the Hero-Tron. It has various functions, including a Jet Pack, spatula weapon, and a Shrink Ray.
  • Secondary Color Nemesis: Purple, orange, and a villain.
  • Selfie Fiend: He's shown taking a selfie in his victory pose, using a selfie stick attached to his Powered Armor.
  • Shrink Ray: His Powered Armor comes with one which he uses to shrink plants. His Signature Superpower is even called this by name, and it reduces a Plant's Strength by 3 while also shrinking their sprite and drawing a card.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Gets an appropriate one before Spudow sticks him on a giant magnet.
    "111!!1! THIS GONNA HURT!"
  • Vader Breath: Combined with very stiff, robotic movements, he has a very distinct, wheezing breath.
    Electric Boogaloo
They say that disco is dead, but he's down with the dead.
  • Afro Asskicker: Sports a huge disco afro on his head and is certainly a strong combatant.
  • Dance Battler: A disco dancing battler whose dance moves are literally shocking.
  • Elemental Zombie: A Disco Zombie who has electrical powers thanks to being blasted near telephone wires.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Dancing Zombie.
  • Logical Weakness: As a disco Dance Battler, he performs shocking dances to the beat... so Solar Flare changes the music to something he's not as used to, allowing the plants to win the dance-off.
  • Shock and Awe: His dance moves are electrifying enough to shock plants and even heal himself. His Signature Superpower "Stayin' Alive" zaps a plant for 3 damage and heals himself for 3.
    Brain Freeze
Loves ice cream, snowstorms, and brains...not necessarily in that order.
    Professor Brainstorm
His countless years of research revealed that E=MCraaazy!
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Judging from his animation when hit by a big attack, either his eyes are connected to his glasses or he just doesn't have any.
  • King Mook: Though not directly confirmed, he does resemble a superpowered Scientist.
  • Logical Weakness: Brainstorm's zombie army is summoned via his teleporter, and thus Spudow attacks it in order to deprive him of his zombies (while blowing him up too).
  • The Rival: To Dr. Zomboss himself thanks to having superior intellect, which is why Zomboss looks at him with envy.
  • Super-Intelligence: Extremely intelligent, even moreso than Zomboss. He puts this to good use with his gadgets and inventions, in particular the Zombie Teleportation-er.
  • Teleporters and Transporters: Built one of these using his superior intellect. His Signature Superpower "Eureka" activates it, allowing it to give him three random Zombie cards from the entire game.
  • Writing Lines: He's forced to write "I will not teach zombies to eat brains" on his own chalkboard after being defeated by the plants.
    Immorticia
Yes, she's a Zombie AND a witch. She believes death is too short to limit oneself.
  • Airborne Mook: Her Zom-Bats are Amphibious and can be summoned on the water lane thanks to being bats that fly.
  • Familiar: Her Zom-Bats act as these, and they can even summon more Zombies. Her Signature Superpower "Witch's Familiar" summons these Zom-Bats, which draw a card each time they damage a Plant.
  • Shout-Out: Her name is one to Morticia Addams.
  • Logical Weakness: While she's able to summon bat familiars that can summon even more zombies, said bats are still small animals that can be easily taken down by getting wrapped in toilet paper.
  • One to Million to One: In the animated trailer, she's shown to be capable of transforming into a swarm of bats and back.
  • Our Liches Are Different: She's a zombie and a witch, so that makes her an undead sorceress. Due to the nature of the game, however, she does not have a Soul Jar.
  • Wicked Witch: She's one of the Zombie Heroes and also a witch with the ability to command zombie bat familiars.
    Z-Mech
Once watched giant mecha anime for 12 hours straight.
  • Balance Buff: Set 2 reworked Missile Madness into its current, more useful form; originally it would only attack for 2 damage down three random lanes, similar to Grass Knuckles' Signature Superpower but unreliable due to depending on RNG. He also swapped Dance Off for the damage-dealing Electrobolt.
  • Canon Immigrant: From Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.
  • Graceful Loser: He displays zero signs of a Villainous Breakdown when he's defeated in "IMPossible Mission!", and just goofily smiles.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Imp, the second of three.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: Is capable of firing a swarm of homing missiles. His Signature Superpower "Missile Madness" deals 3 damage to a selected Plant and 1 damage to all other Plants.
  • Mini-Mecha: The Imp pilots one of these, which is the namesake Z-Mech.

    Neptuna
She is the first zombie to fight in a tank.
  • Arc Villain: She's the main antagonist of the Triassic Triumph expansion, where she's the one heading the invasion of Hollow Earth.
  • Aquatic Mook: Her Octo-Pet is Amphibious and can be summoned on the water lane due to well, being an octopus.
  • Bald of Evil: She's completely bald underneath her Head Pet, which you see whenever she uses Octo-Pult.
  • The Beastmaster: Is capable of commanding swarms of octopi. Her Signature Superpower "Octo-Pult" summons a 3/2 Amphibious Octo-Pet to aid her in battle.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She may be evil enough to flood Hollow Earth, but she loves Octo-Pet according to its description.
  • Head Pet: Wears an octopus on her head. It can actually be sent out into combat via her Octo-Pult Superpower.
  • Metaphorically True: Her description states that she's the first zombie to fight in a tank (which is true)...but it's a fish tank, not a military tank.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: A zombie mermaid wearing an octopus on her head, no less.
    Huge-Gigantacus
Go on, tell him he's actually quite small. See what happens. You're not going to like it.
  • Arc Villain: He's the main villain of the Galactic Gardens expansion, where he's planning to take over the galaxy via the power of Meteor Z. Even in the next set he crashes the meteor into the Earth, plowing a hole into the surface and revealing a subterranean prehistoric world.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: He can breathe in space just fine, as shown in the opening cutscene to Galactic Gardens and the cover of his introductory comic.
  • Berserk Button: Telling him that he's small will make him lose it, as his flavor text says. Another implied one would be telling him that the Terror-Former 10000 is his only invention, if the flavor text for it is true. Also, don't talk about the Intergalactic Warlord in front of him.
  • Expy: Of both Galactus and Thanos, having Galactus' helmet horns and a Silver Surfer expy minion, Thanos' color scheme and inventing skills, and being a threat to the galaxy like both of them.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Was initially an astronaut Imp sent to investigate Meteor Z. Then the rocket crash-landed on it, and the power of Meteor Z transformed him into the menace he is now.
  • Galactic Conqueror: Is partially based off Thanos, after all. He's a powerful zombie who wants to take over the universe and uses his Terror-Former 10000 to terraform planets the hostile way.
  • Hostile Terraforming: His Terror-Former 10000 is his terraforming device invention, which he uses to terraform landscapes to make them hospitable for Zombies and harmful to Plants. His Signature Superpower "Terror-Former 10000" allows him to conjure an Environment Card while also reducing the cost of cards in his hand by 1 Brain, and two of his other Superpowers are Environments unique to him.
  • Ironic Name: He's called Huge-Gigantacus. He's also an Imp. Granted, calling him tiny will make him lose it.
  • King Mook: A superpowered Imp, the last of three.
  • Leitmotif: Befitting of someone powerful like him, his theme has heavy instruments. Befitting of someone silly like him, it also has goofy-sounding beeps, though they were later removed.
  • The Napoleon: He's tiny due to being an Imp and also very quick to anger, especially if his size is made fun of.
  • The Resenter: It's suggested in Intergalactic Warlord's card description that Huge-Gigantacus resents him out of jealousy. It's implied to be due to his success at being a Galactic Conqueror.
  • Teleporters and Transporters: One of his superpowers is to summon a Teleportation Station environment. At the start of each turn, if a Zombie is in the station, he gains a free Teleport.
  • Temporary Online Content: Downplayed, but like with Beta-Carrotina he can't be bought normally like other Heroes and can only be found in his dedicated pack that shows up in the shop rarely.
