The Ennead

The group formed by Izuku Midoriya and the girls he's bonded with due to the Bonding Quirk contained within One for All.
    General
  • Ability Mixing: Upon gaining the eleven Quirks from All for One after Kamino, the girls are capable of mixing their respective Quirks with enhancements from the new ones.
    • Tsu combines Frog with Springlike Limbs and Super Regeneration. Melissa also has access to Springlike Limbs.
    • Mei integrates Zoom with Danger Sense, Search and Diagnosis.
    • Nejire uses a version of Survivor that doesn't depletes her stamina.
    • Toru can use Smokescreen and Smoke Manipulation to create a field of invisibility that covers everyone around her.
    • Ochako, Momo and Yui have integrated Overhaul to their respective Quirks, and Yui can grow living beings, even herself.
  • Appropriated Appellation: The Ennead was originally what Fumikage and Reiko called the group, and it stuck as their chosen name for the team they form.
  • Battle Harem: All of the Ennead are heroes-in-training capable of fighting on equal terms against some of Japan's worst villains.
  • Beneath the Mask: Despite their collective status as All-Loving Heroes, all of them had to deal with different levels of problematic lives.
  • Chastity Couple: Of the Harem variety, no less. Despite all members of the Ennead being reasonably attractive and effectively adopting Eri, their relationship is a cuddly version of this. Their chasteness is a minor plot for Ibara, as it causes her to realize that her unease toward them isn’t due to the potentially lewd nature of the relationship but envy of their closeness. This may have changed after the end of ch 66, but the author deliberately left it vague.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Izuku and Neito's fight against Nine started off evenly matched, but as soon as the girls showed up, it became a one-sided massacre against the villain.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: After temporarily bonding with them, Toga finds out that all members of the Ennead had this in spades: Momo was burdened with the expectations of her family; Ochako was isolated by her poverty; Mei’s hyperactivity and Yui’s shyness drove people away; Tsuyu and Toru couldn’t hide the way their Quirks made things different for them; Nejire’s Quirk made people put her on a pedestal, where they projected their insecurities onto her, and Melissa and Izuku were Quirkless, so they weren’t well fitted wherever they were.
  • The Empath: A Level 1 bond lets Izuku and the girl detect each other's feelings, as well as their likely reaction to certain actions.
  • Famed In-Story:
    • Their appearance during the Battle of Kamino made them well-known in the Hero society.
    • They are famous enough that the HPSC can link them to the rise or fall of different heroes: while Ryukyu and Gang Orca have retained or improved their rankings, Yoroi Musha has fallen off the Top Ten because of Momo's faint praise of her work study with him.
  • In-Universe Nickname: The Ennead, and after teleporting themselves live on TV during the Battle of Kamino, they become known as "The Bolts of Kamino".
  • Keystone Army: The incredible powers the Ennead gains depend exclusively on Izuku's Quirk. When Izuku's Quirk is temporarily disabled by a Quirk-erasing bullet, the girls' enhancements in turn vanish as well, returning when the effect wore off.
  • Mind Hive: As each girl reaches Level 2 in the bond, they can speak telepathically with the Vestiges and the others in the Ennead at the same level.
  • Polyamory: While it initially was a Harem, it eventually evolves into this, as the girls begin to date each other.
  • Open Secret: The polycule have not officially announced their existence, but talk has spread among UA's students, and after the girls teleported to Izuku's side during Kamino, several people, such as Curious, correctly assume they're together.
  • Super-Empowering:
    • Due to Bonding, the members of the Ennead become more powerful as their bonds evolve.
      • At Level 2, everyone's physical abilities increase by 10% per existing Level 2 bond, as long as they are within ten meters to the power of the number of Level 2 bonds of Izuku. When Yui and Nejire reach the level, it means that everyone has a pretty much permanent 80% boost to their strength and dexterity.
      • At Level 3, the girls gain access to One for All's stockpile and an evolution of their Quirk based on the Quirk of the Vestige in charge of the bond, while Izuku gets an improvement based on the girl's Quirk.
      • At Level 4, Izuku and the girls can teleport to each other.
      • At Level 5, they will presumably be able to heal injuries that would have killed them, if what happened to the Zero Team is any consideration.
    • After Izuku takes several of the Quirks All for One stole, they also get integrated into the Bond: everyone gets access to Quirk Understanding, Multitasking, and a combination of Quirks called Total Body Enhancement, while the girls have their Quirks evolve through combination with one or several of the Quirks.

    Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya — Kyuseishu

Quirk: One For All* (officially Decade Force), Quirkless (Formerly)

U.A. Class: 1-A, Hero Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/izuku_6.png

The main protagonist of the story, the Ninth Torchbearer of One for All and All Might's successor. After beginning to hear the voices of the previous bearers at the back of his head, Izuku begins to delve into the power the Quirk grants him.

  • Abnormal Limb Rotation Range: Due to his bond with Melissa reaching level 3, Izuku can copy her father's Bendy Fingers but on his whole body, including making his fingers and elbows bend the opposite direction and turning his head 270 degrees.
  • The Ace: First he breaks All Might's record at the entrance exam with the highest score in both villain and rescue points, then he wins the Sports Festival and finally stands side by side against All for One during his final battle against All Might. By the time of the Jurassic arc, all students from Class 1-A unanimosly agree that Izuku is the strongest student of their class, and the first year as whole.
  • Adaptational Badass: Due to having the previous users as spirit advisors, Izuku figures out Full Cowl much sooner, causing him to break All Might's record score at the entrance exam. Plus, there's whatever is going on with One For All that's caused it to hit the singularity much earlier than in canon that allowed it in the first place.
    • Izuku also figures out a way to keep Full Cowl running all the time without its telltale signs. This allows him to get Danger Sense and Float early in the year, and to begin hitting Full Cowl 8% before the Sports Festival. By the Summer Training Camp arc, Izuku can use roughly 42%, something he couldn't do until after the Paranormal Liberation War Arc in canon.
    • Thanks to Itsuka's suggestions, he also develops a more rounded fighting style than his initial All Might-derived "punch everything" style.
    • He is also able to defeat Shouto in the Finals and managed to subdue Overhaul with Blackwhip in their first encounter, negating the need of the Raid.
    • When All for One tried stealing One for All in Ch 42, his plan quickly goes pear shaped and loses 34 Quirks to the actions of the Vestiges of the Ennead and the Torchbearers, 11 of which got absorbed into One For All, giving Izuku new tools to fight All For One with.
    • He gains seven more Quirks by the end of the Nabu Island arc, following the last mission inside the Vestige Realm to destroy All For One's Quirk stockpile ending with Mugen discovering them and hastily severing the connection between All For One and One For All, with the Vestiges of those Quirks being the closest to the breaking bridge that allowed them to jump ship.
    • By the time of the Work Studies arc, he can safely use One for All at 100% without injuring himself, thanks to Muscle Augmentation.
  • Adaptational Name Change: As Ochako learns of how painful being called Deku was for Izuku, she never tells him her own interpretation of the nickname, so he won't be called Deku as a hero. Instead, his Hero name is Kyuseishu, which means "savior", but also has a bit of word play based on him being the ninth holder of One For All.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: While he seems to be attracted to women in canon, here he is confirmed to be bisexual, even saying that he previously had a crush on Bakugo. Chapter 71's author's notes further confirm Izuku to be a heteroromantic bisexual (meaning he's attracted to both sexes, but has primarily dated women).
  • All-Loving Hero: He wants to save everyone he can, the same as his hero All Might.
    • Even though Bakugo bullied him for more than a decade, Izuku still asked that he be given a chance to join U.A.
    • Even though she just attempted to kill him, he feels pity for Himiko Toga, because he knows a good part of what she is right now was caused by her being unable to use her Quirk.
    • When he realizes Tomura Shigaraki was manipulated by All for One, he offers him the chance to peacefully give up.
    • He keeps making overtures to Kota Izumi in spite of the latter's abrasiveness and pushing Eri's Trauma Button.
    • When he gets Overhaul, he uses it to heal those who truly need it, whether they are heroes, civilians or villains: Magne, for example, is granted the female body she wanted but couldn't afford to pay for.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Mt. Lady brings up in her interview with Izuku the rumors that he's stolen Quirks. Izuku replies by explaining his Dark and Troubled Past then asks, if he really could steal Quirks, why have none of his former bullies woken up Quirkless?
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Years of self-study has granted him an almost intuitive ability to analyze Quirks and suggest ways its user can improve their skill. Tensei Iida, the Pro Hero Ingenium, reads Izuku's analysis of him and states he'd try to hire him for his agency if Izuku weren't training to become a Pro Hero himself.
    • When Shinso asks 1-A if Izuku would be interested in making an analysis of him, Denki replies that Izuku already has five pages each on Shinso and Akira.
    • When confronted by Overhaul, Izuku quickly deduced that Overhaul needed to touch something with an uncovered hand to use his Quirk. Cue Blackwhip immediately being used to leave the villain spreadeagled and restrained.
    • At the I-Expo, Izuku meets Cathleen Bate and a comment by her reveals that Izuku almost figured out the details of her Quirk just by studying her fights. While he didn't quite get it, she does say he was closer than anyone else was.
  • Badass Cape: He sports one similar Nana's in his new outfit.
  • Badass in Distress: The League of Villains captures him during summer camp.
  • Bad Powers, Good People:
    • Considering Overhaul's previous user was an unhinged Yakuza boss, it's safe to say that the Quirk is in far better hands now.
    • He gains Muscular's Muscle Augmentation Quirk as part of Mugen's unwitting "parting present" when the connection between All for One and One for All was shut down by the end of the Nabu Island arc.
  • Best Friend: Izuku and Ochako consider themselves each other's best friend.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • He bonds with Mei due to their shared love for support items and how Pro Heroes use them.
    • He connects with Momo over both being intelligent and analytical.
    • He ends up bonding with Melissa due to their shared experiences as Quirkless people and their love of science.
    • He becomes friends with Hitoshi due to their similar background as outcasts and victims of Fantastic Racism.
  • Broken Tears: While he often cries a lot, one of the moments where Izuku is genuinely heartbroken is when he sees Himiko's emotional breakdown, when the poor girl begs him and the girls to accept her so she won't be alone anymore, and the best he can do is to knock her out and hand her over to the autorities so she can be receive proper help.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He's buff, capable of destroying an enemy in a fight, and more than able to back his words with actions. He's also quite sensitive, prone to crying, and gentle.
  • But Not Too Bi: Izuku mentions that he is bisexual with preferences towards women. However, Izuku liking men never comes up anywhere else (save for a mention of being attracted to Bakugo when they were younger) and his entire Battle Harem is composed of girls. Although, when Tsu shows her ability to switch between male and female forms, he shows no problem with it.
  • Chick Magnet: Without even planning it, he gets involved with eight girls.
  • Class Representative: He's voted in as 1-A's Class President. Unlike in canon, he does not relinquish the position to Tenya.
  • Costume Evolution: By the time of chapter 67, Izuku's new outfit incorporates gear elements from the previous users as both a way to keep their legacy alive, as well keeping his family close to him. The costume includes: goggles like Daigoro's, gauntlets similar to Ryouji's, a collar styled after En's, a belt styled after Hikage's, and his shoulders sported the same vents seen on Isamu’s vest. To finish the look, a replica of Nana's white cape over his shoulders.
  • Curbstomp Battle: His team up with Momo is good enough that their classmates are glad it wasn't them and All Might makes a note not to team them up again so their opponents stand a chance.
    • Even though Todoroki trapped him in a glacier, Izuku gets out and rings him out.
    • His use of Float allows him to win the Obstacle Race even after he goes back to smash the frozen Zero Pointers so they won't fall on the other students and then stop to open a way through the mine field for everyone.
    • He manages to win most of his tournament fights without a problem, and even against Todoroki in the finals he could have easily won if he hadn't been trying to convince him to start using all of his power.
    • Overhaul only got to start removing his gloves before Izuku figured out how his Quirk activated. The villain was promptly restrained and spreadeagled via Blackwhip.
    • He blazes through the I-Expo Villain course in six seconds.
    • His rematch with Tigre goes this way, as he has gotten so much stronger since their first match that he manages to beat Tigre in two moves.
  • Dare to Be Badass: Izuku's opening speech at the Sports Festival dares all of the competitors to show why villains should fear them. He later reveals that he wants all of the hero course students to become the next All Might.
  • Didn't See That Coming: After giving Search back to Ragdoll, not only does Izuku still have Search, but she can also use the other sensory Quirks he possesses, namely Danger Sense, Diagnosis, Multitasking, and Quirk Understanding.
  • Disappeared Dad: His father Hisashi has never featured in his life, having divorced his mother when he was very young. While he still supports them economically, he doesn't keep in touch.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: When he meets Mt. Lady again after nearly two years, Izuku takes to repeating "I love you. I will not betray you." in his head to the girls because of how distracting her costume is.
  • Don't Think, Feel: This is Miruko's primary lesson when training Izuku, as she recognizes that Izuku can fight fairly well, but he tends to overthink things and end up distracted in the middle of his fights. She first tries to teach him this by needling him with insults, which works, but ends up with her embedded in a wall when Izuku reaches his Rage Breaking Point. Izuku eventually finds a way to enter this state on command: his muttering.
  • The Dreaded: When Gentle Criminal and La Brava meet Izuku, they immediately recognize him and struggle not to shake in fear.
  • Dungeon Bypass: Nana lampshades that Float completely negates all challenges present in the Sports Festival obstacle course.
  • The Empath: Due to Bonding, an empathy Quirk getting mixed into the Stockpile Quirk that later became One for All, Izuku and Ochako can sense each other's emotions and understand a bit of each other's motivations after their bond forms. This later applies to Momo, Mei, Tsuyu, Toru, Melissa, Nejire, and Yui, who are also linked to each other.
  • Exact Words: Izuku insists that he wouldn't become a vigilante over some people standing Tsuyu up in the past, but only because "a pipe wrench isn't a Quirk".
  • Forgot Their Own Birthday: It isn't until Melissa wishes him a happy birthday that Izuku realizes that his birthday is the next day.
  • Friend to All Children: He manages to establish a great rapport with Tsuyu's siblings when they meet after his date with Tsuyu. This is what triggers their bond's second level.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: His attempt to appeal to Tomura Shigaraki's humanity and get him to peacefully surrender by calling him by his birth name of Tenko Shimura ends up reminding him of his father's abusive behavior and he goes even deeper into villainy.
  • Good Is Not Soft:
    • Learning of Endeavor's actions towards his family has Izuku state that he won't kill the man. No, instead he will utterly destroy the man's reputation and career, forcing him to live with the consequences of his decisions and actions. The Third approves of this course of action.
    • When he learns that people have stood Tsuyu up and called her weird, his first instinct is to ask for their names so he can find them and hit them with a pipe wrench.
  • Harmful Healing: Gaining both Overhaul and Diagnosis allows him to instantly identify and heal any medical issues a person has, but is also extremely painful as he has to rip them apart on a molecular level to do so. After it melds into the power stockpile, that particular side effect is virtually removed, though Izuku idly wonders if Overhaul himself could also do harmless healing and just never pursued it.
  • Healing Factor: Gains the only surviving copy of Super Regeneration from All For One's disastrous attempt to steal One For All in the Forest Training Camp arc in Chapter 42, with the other two being deleted by the Vestiges of the Ennead and the Torchbearers.
  • Heroic BSoD: After being hit with the fact that he can't save everyone when the only thing he can do for Tsubasa is granting him a Mercy Kill, he's left depressed.
  • Honor Before Reason: During the obstacle race, Izuku flies back to stop the frozen Zero Pointers from falling on anyone. Downplayed in that he can fly so fast he quickly retakes the lead.
  • I Can't Believe A Girl Like You Would Notice Me: After ten years of being openly disparaged by most (if not all) of his classmates, he does not consider himself to be attractive. Fortunately, the girls are more than willing to point out that he is.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Selfless and caring as Izuku may be, he is still a teenager, who just want to do usual teenager stuff, like going on a date with his girlfriends for once without having to worry about Villains trying to kill him and his friends.
  • Innate Night Vision: One of the All for One Quirks that manages to reach out the Vestige Realm is called Darkvision and allows its user to see in the dark.
  • Instant Armor: By covering his body with Blackwhip, Izuku produces an armor that can reduce incoming damage.
  • Just Toying with Them: To prove a point regarding Todoroki only using half his Quirk, Izuku fights him using only half of his own power. Not only does Izuku completely dominate the fight, he points out that he could have won several times before Todoroki finally used his fire.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • At his core, Izuku is an analyst. As such, he tends to overthink during fights rather than simply react, which is part of why Miruko easily smacks him around during their spar.
    • Blackwhip is a great energy conductor. It's because of this that largely left Izuku unable to detain Nine when he killed himself by using Weather Manipulation to purposefully kill himself via Quirk backlash as he threw lightning around to avoid jail time.
  • Meaningful Name: Izuku's hero name, Ultimate Hero: Kyuseishu, is this in several ways.
    • Kyuseishu means "Savior", denoting his intention to be one that saves people.
    • With Ultimate, he marks his intention to be the world's greatest hero.
    • Finally, Ultimate can be translated as "kyuukyoku", which allows him to Pun on him being the Ninth Torchbearer ("kyu" and "ku" being possible pronunciations of "nine" in Japanese) twice over.
  • Memetic Badass: Izuku becomes one In-Universe after the Sports Festival, due to both his speech to Todoroki and how he seemingly fought Quirkless during part of their fight.
  • Messy Hair: A trait he keeps from canon. The girls eventually realize how fluffy it is, and love running their hands through it.
  • Metaphorgotten: Izuku tries to come up with a metaphor for seeing Mei at a technology expo while on a date with her.
Watching Mei was like watching a shark go on a feeding frenzy, except she was feeding on other sharks who were also feeding on her, and that caused her to feed even more, and the analogy was getting away from him.
  • Meteor Move: Izuku's Grand Canyon Smash is the Flying Takedown variety. He uses Float to allow him to grab a flying enemy, then performs a midair piledriver to crash them into the ground headfirst and drag them, opening a trench until they hit a rock.
  • Mindlink Mates: While a Level 1 bond allows Izuku and his girls to emotionally read each other, the Level 2 bond allows him to establish true mental communication with the corresponding girl.
  • Mr. Exposition: Gains Quirk Understanding from All For One's disastrous attempt to steal One For All in the Forest Training Camp arc in Chapter 42. The Quirk itself talks if any of the Ennead wonders about Izuku's Quirks, allowing them to learn their ins and outs, as well as things related to said Quirk. There is a limit to how much it knows, it's loud, and there is no cliff notes version of the information it provides, especially if two Quirks were mentioned, forcing the Torchbearers to seal its voice away so they can think. Fortunately, it eventually learns to interact with others in a normal way.
  • Nice Guy: Pretty much everyone he meets agrees that he is one.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: While he considers Quirk Understanding very useful, he also notes that it takes the fun out of figuring out the ins and outs of his Quirks on his own, though he does enjoy Quirk Understanding does have limits.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: When Daigoro points out that Izuku could shoot Fa Jin or Blackwhip from any part of his body, Izuku tells him stop his line of thought before he gets into some weird and innappropiate ideas.
  • No-Sell: A rather odd variant. When Hitoshi uses his Quirk on him, at Izuku's request, Yoichi immediately takes control of Izuku's body, rendering him functionally immune to said Quirk.
  • Nom de Mom: Midoriya here is actually Inko's maiden name. Hisashi took Inko's name when they married due to not wanting anything to do with his family.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • After discovering that Nezu is a tiger quoll, he tells other people that he is a different species every time just for the lulz.
    • He mentions that he will not use his Quirks for Power Perversion Potential... unless the girls consent it to.
  • Papa Wolf: In spite of his protests, he quickly picks up this role regarding Eri. When he recruits Monoma to learn more about Eri's Quirk, Izuku cheerfully warns him that, if he tries to hurt her in any way, shape or form... he'd better have a written will.
    • Muscular learned this streak of Izuku's the hard way when he was tasked to retrieve Eri and tried to kill Kota on his own volition. What Muscular got was a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown with every Quirk in One For All at the time, leaving him a broken man out for the count with his arms, legs, and jaw broken.
  • The Paragon: He has a natural charisma that, in spite of his shyness, has manage to act as an inspiration and guide to his classmates.
    • He advocates for Bakugo so he can still attend U.A. after All Might learns how big of a bully Bakugo is.
    • He has a penchant for the Dare to Be Badass Rousing Speech, inspiring not just his classmates but also all the other students to get them to push forward as best as they can.
    • He convinces Todoroki to live up to his full potential by appealing to his desire to be a hero.
    • His performance during the Sports Festival causes many people to begin sharing their troubles for having "useless" or "villainous" Quirks, and many of them feel inspired to pursue their dreams even if they don't have Quirks suited for them.
    • He is willing to help villains when he realizes they are suffering from things outside their control. He attempts to persuade Shigaraki to surrender peacefully at the mall, and uses Overhaul to make Magne (physically) female after arresting her.
  • Power Incontinence: After stealing eleven of All for One's Quirks, Izuku has trouble during the Kamino Raid with these Quirks because, due to how they were technically passed via All for One to One for All, he had to deal with his body acclimatizing to them — not helped by the fact that they have different acclimatization rates depending on type and that their presence keeps boosting the stockpiled power within One for All.
  • The Power of Love: As Vlad King summarizes, Izuku's Quirk is functionally the power of love from how it further empowers himself and his significant others, growing stronger as their love for each other does.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Since Hisashi is Endeavor's third cousin here, that makes him Shoto, Natsuo, Fuyumi and (unfortunately), Toya/Dabi's fourth cousin.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Izuku accurately predicts that it is better to keep Star and Stripe away from Tomura after he gains All for One's Quirk, since New Order relies on knowing the targets real name, and they don't know which identity he goes by. Although he comes up with this idea under the misconception that Mugen has successfully taken over Tomura's body, not that young villain has abandoned both his name of Tenko Shimura and the Shigaraki surname.
  • Sentient Phlebotinum: Quirk Understanding develops true sentience after mixing with One for All and the other mental Quirks in it. This newfound sentience allows its advice to be more practical and delivered at more convenient times, as well as not "shouting" at the top of its voice.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Essentially how his "fight" with Overhaul went, as Izuku bound the Yakuza by his hands and legs and kept him spread eagle with Blackwhip after Danger Sense helped him deduced his Quirk required physical contact.
  • Sketchy Successor: While Izuku isn't this and is ultimately the best choice to carry One For All, Sir Nighteye accuses him of being an "inferior" choice until Izuku dressed him down.
  • Smoke Out: Smokescreen, the Quirk he gets from En, allows him to fill the air around himself with smoke, granting him visual cover. Reaching the Level 3 bond with Toru allows him to see through the smoke, rendering one of its disadvantages meaningless. Taking Smoke Manipulation from All for One allows him to manipulate the smoke and turn part of it solid.
  • Super-Empowering: During Ochako's fight with Bakugou, Izuku unlocks the second level of his bond with her and manages to empower Ochako for a few moments, allowing her to become fast enough that to her perception Bakugou's explosion seemed to move in slow motion, and she was able to move around him and throw him out of the ring so fast he couldn't comprehend what happened.
    • It turns out to be a general trend, as the girls show a marked increase in their physical abilities while they are within a certain radius of Izuku. The increase is about an extra 10% for every Level 2 bond — and the radius grows exponentially. At eight Level 2 bonds, the radius is a quarter of the way to the moon, so for most practical purposes, the distance limit stops mattering at that point.
    • At level three of Bond, the girls are allowed to draw on and use One For All, as well as amplifying/modifying their own Quirk and allowing them to use the Quirk of the Vestige they're bonded to Izuku through, while Izuku gains an increased capacity to the corresponding Quirk.
    • At level four, the Ennead gain the ability to teleport to each other if they think hard enough that they want to be at each other's sides.
    • At level five, the Bond will heal an otherwise fatal injury.
    • Momo's Level 3 bonding allows Izuku to use her Quirk, which manifests as him able to create Quirks with what's present in One For All, starting by using some of One for All's stockpiled power to create a Transformation Quirk he gives to Melissa, which she dubs Battery.
    • When he attempts to give Search back to Ragdoll, it... doesn't go as expected. For one, it melded with the stockpile fast enough that he still has it, having essentially given Ragdoll a copy. Second, it synergized so well with Quirk Understanding, Diagnosis, Danger Sense, and Multitasking that the copy of Search he gave her is essentially a gestalt Quirk consisting of those five Quirks.
    • After All Might officially retired following One For All burning out within him, Izuku gives him his own gestalt Quirk, later dubbed Superpower.
    • When Aoyama apologizes to Izuku for being an unwilling mole, Izuku makes the offer to use Overhaul to change Aoyama's body to more suit his Quirk. Aoyama accepts.
    • Downplayed for Aizawa, where Izuku modifies his body to give him a nictitating membrane so he can hydrate his eyes and not break eye contact with his Erased target.
    • The bond allows the girls to access some of the Quirks he took from All for One. Everyone gets Multitasking, Quirk Understanding, and a gestalt of Shock Absorption, Super Regeneration, Survivor and Blood Bank, and each of them gets one or more extra Quirks based on their own.
  • Superior Successor: The very nature of One for All, which gains power as it is passed down from Bearer to Bearer, ensures Izuku will (once he takes a handle of its power) become THE Superior Successor to all the previous Bearers, even All Might. The sudden discovery that he can not only talk with the Vestiges, but also use their Quirks as his connection to One for All improves, is also something unique to him. Due to Bonding's effect, he can also gain other Quirk-like powers from the girls he's bonded with. Usually, they enhance the Quirk from the Vestige that links them, but in Momo's case he gets a particular version of Creation that lets him transfer power and Quirks, while with Melissa he gets a powered-up version of her father's Bendy Fingers.
  • Sympathy for the Devil:
    • While he's still repulsed about the fact she's a Serial Killer who feels zero remorse, Izuku can't help but sympathize somewhat with Himiko over how she was treated due to her Quirk.
    • When he realizes through Diagnosis how screwed up Shigaraki's health is, he itches to heal him with Overhaul even though he's already threatened to kill him several times.
    • He turns Magne's body into female because he's seeing how her gender dysphoria is destroying her mentally.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Izuku gains Air Cannon after the last mission inside the All for One Vestige Realm, a Quirk that belonged to vigilante Wind River. Nana points out that even though they couldn't save her, at least her power can no longer be used for evil.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Izuku is incredibly overpowered, something both the author and the other characters acknowledge. But due to a combination of having little experience with any Quirk, possessing Combo Platter Powers that don't always synergize, and not a lot of training, Izuku can easily be defeated by someone like Miruko. He's physically superior but her experience and skill allow her to treat him like a particularly durable punching bag. It's also why he ends up forfeiting his first match against Tigre, as Tigre had enough strength and skill to keep up with him.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: A variant. After Bakugou is expelled, Izuku admits to his classmates that it wasn't satisfying.
  • Victor Gains Loser's Powers:
    • When All For One tries to take One For All at the Forest Training Camp arc in Chapter 42, the ancient supervillain ends up losing 34 Quirks to the actions of the Vestiges of the Ennead and the Torchbearers, 11 of them being absorbed into One For All. These 11 are Quirk Understanding, the sole survivor of the three Super Regeneration copies All for One had, Blood Bank, Survivor, Multitasking, Shock Absorption, Springlike Limbs, Smoke Manipulation, Diagnosis, Search and Overhaul. Izuku later returns Search to Ragdoll in the same way he created Melissa's Battery, but by the time he does it's left enough that he has a copy.
    • Izuku later got 7 more Quirks from All For One at the end of the Nabu Island Arc thanks to Mugen hastily severing the connection between AFO and OFA, with these 7 being the closest to the weakened barrier between the AFO and OFA worlds at the time. These 7 Quirks are Darkvision, Photosynthetic Hair, Lightning Rod, Muscle Augmentation, Trajectory, Impact Recoil, and Air Cannon.
  • You Remind Me of X: Aizawa is reminded of his friend Oboro Shirakumo after Izuku demonstrates Smoke Manipulation.

    Ochako Uraraka

Ochako Uraraka — Uravity

Quirk: Zero Gravity

U.A. Class: 1-A, Hero Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ochaco_uraraka_action_4_5.png

An outgoing, cheerful, and optimistic girl Izuku first meets before U.A. Entrance Exams. She's the first girl Izuku forms an empathic bond with, the two quickly becoming friends as a result, as well as the first to level up her bond to level 2 and level 3. Her Quirk, Zero Gravity, allows her to nullify gravity's influence on anything she touches.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • She gets to defeat Bakugo this time around.
    • She reaches the tournament semifinals, losing against Todoroki — and only because she went overboard with her Quirk and suffered the drawbacks before she could try to defeat him.
    • Reaching Level 3 on her bond with Izuku lets her use One for All and Float and modifies her Quirk to the point she can add weight to anything she touches.
    • After the Kamino Raid, she integrates Overhaul into her Quirk, which allows her to be a lot looser with the type of object she can affect — such as, for example, a platform of cement she can rip and make fly to carry all of 1-A, Mei, and Melissa at the same time.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Instead of the canon Uraraka-san, Izuku calls her "Occhan".
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's cheerful, optimistic, and really nice... right until the moment someone pushes her Berserk Button.
    • When Bakugou angers her before their fight, she unleashes a Cluster F-Bomb on him and beats the hell out of him.
    • Curious pisses her off so badly in Chapter 43 that she calls her a "purple-skinned cunt" when the former tries to push the idea that the League is trying to recruit Izuku.
  • Epic Flail: She can use her cables to turn large, heavy objects into an improvised version of this. She calls it "Tunguska Hammer".
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: Sweet and caring as Ochako, she is not above hating someone if she gets really pissed. While at first Bakugo was the main target of her hatred, she later switches it to Curious, after the Immoral Journalist starts to slander Izuku as part of the MLA campaign. So it's a surprise to no one that as soon as Ochako finds out that that Kizuki is a member of the Quirkist organization, she proceeds to beat her up with no mercy.
  • Gravity Master: Her Quirk lets her render anything she touches unaffected by gravity. The Level 3 bond allows her to invert this and make things heavier.
    • By the Nabu Island arc, she's developed "Jupiter Crush", which creates a point of high gravity that attracts everything that is floating and compacts it into a superdense object.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: She was raised by construction workers, as she proves when she swears up a storm that's described as "creative and disturbing" in response to seeing the "casual eatery" Momo takes the class to. She then repeated it by dropping a Cluster F-Bomb that leaves Bakugo dumbfounded.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Gives a brutal one to Curious in chapter 73, something she wanted to do for a while.
  • Reflexive Response: When her friends throw her a surprise birthday party, she attacks the person closest to her (Izuku) and gets them in a hammerlock before realizing what's going on.
  • Rescue Romance: She bonds with Izuku after he saves her from the Zero Pointer (and then she saves him from hitting the ground).
  • Rocket Boots: Mei makes her a pair of these, which also contain gyroscopes. This allows her to propel and orient herself when using Zero Gravity on herself. And they don't have impractical high-heels.
  • Shame If Something Happened: She subtly threats to drop Curious from her grip and pretend it was an accident if the Quirkist reporter doesn't come along quietly after being captured.
  • Top Wife: While Izuku loves all the girls, it is obvious that Ochako is number 1.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: While all the Ennead girls are this towards Izuku, Ochako is the most prone for this. Everyone in the Ennead acknowledges this as a fact.
    • She cheerfully fights Bakugo when she learns he bullied Izuku for years.
    • After Izuku is kidnapped by the League of Villains, she's described to be seething so hard even All Might falls short.
    • She swears to use Zero Gravity on Shigaraki and Toga so she can throw them out of Earth.
    • She threatens to send Curious flying into the ionosphere after she makes leading questions about Izuku potentially making a Face–Heel Turn. She settles for siccing Hisashi Midoriya's team at Curious and Shoowaysha Publishing, after the team's women thank the girls for opening the senior male Midoriya's eyes to his 5 female coworkers' feelings.
    • When Toga temporarily reconnects to the Bond network by transforming into Izuku, she can sense how the Ennead feel about her. It's noted that all of the girls feel some degree of anger towards her for threatening Izuku, but that Ochako's is particularly intense.
    • When Tooru learns about the MLA's smear campaign against Izuku she notes that, as angry as she is about it, she knows that Ochako will be even angrier.
    • When she encounters Curious during the MLA Uprising, she unleashes a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, ties her up and then ties her to the top of the tallest building she can find.

    Mei Hatsume

Mei Hatsume — Mei-Day

Quirk: Zoom

U.A. Class: 1-H, Support Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mei_03.png

A quirky first-year Support student who is completely lacking in social graces, but always bursting with ideas to make real through her impressive engineering skills. She's the second girl Izuku bonds with, the third to reach level 2 and the second to reach level 3 in the bond, and quickly becomes his support technician (and that of his polycule).

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Reaching Level 3 with the bond grants her the ability to use One for All and Danger Sense, and enables Zoom to go from telescopic to microscopic vision.
    • After the Kamino Raid, she can incorporate Search, Diagnosis, and Quirk Understanding when looking for people.
  • Berserk Button: A hypothetical situation of Izuku interfering with her inventions* enrages her almost to the point of severing their bond, until she remembers it's strictly a hypothetical question. Downplayed in that she feels happy that Izuku would actually go that far to help her succeed.
  • Birds of a Feather: Izuku and her bond over their common interest in support items and how heroes use them.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Izuku, Ochako, and Momo realize how much work Mei has been doing, they worriedly ask her how long it's been since she last ate or slept. Mei nonchalantly replies that she made a baby to do both things for her.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu??: Mei spends most of her time during Yui's fight against Machia throwing jabs at the giant's Undying Loyalty to All for One and Tomura, pointing out he is nowhere as cool or special as he believes he is, and Machia can't really prove her wrong as much as she wants to.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She's really good with technology and engineering. She just needs someone to keep her in a short rein to ensure her inventions are safe.
  • Hidden Depths: When Izuku tells the girls about One for All, she quickly believes him and states so openly. This causes her bond with Izuku to level up.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Izuku has to explain how her plan to show off her inventions using her match against Akira Fuki might seriously offend the other boy, as it'd make it look like he couldn't win on his own if she simply forfeited after making a fool out of him. Izuku compares it to if he made her inventions seem more impressive than they were when she tried to sell them to investors, the very idea of which completely enrages her.
  • Mad Scientist: She's the closest to this of the cast. It takes her less than a day to fill her classroom with her inventions, and she also ticks many other marks: hyper-focusing, No Social Skills, Forgets to Eat, prone to causing explosions...
  • No Social Skills: Unable to remember people's names (the only reason she remembers Izuku's and the girls' names is because of the bond), calls her inventions "her babies" without providing people with context, has No Sense of Personal Space...
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Her changed behavior caused her parents to worry, thinking she was making Izuku up or that he would hurt her emotionally.
  • Stronger Than They Look: She's strong enough to Bridal Carry Izuku.
  • We Need a Distraction: Acts as such during Yui's fight against Machia in Chapter 77. Mei pretty much turns the entire situation into an advertisement for her gadgets while also breaking Machia's morale by pointing out how expandable he is to both Mugen and Tomura.
  • What Is This Feeling?: She initially mistook her romantic interest in Izuku as "a combination of friendship and side effects of sleep deprivation", and she asks if feeling like she wants Izuku to always look at her like he was doing after she declared she believed him is actual love.
  • Workaholic: Mei spends much of her time on her work, to the point where Izuku and the polycule are the only ones capable of convincing her to focus on anything that doesn't involve said work, which includes eating, sleeping, and in general taking breaks.

    Momo Yaoyorozu

Momo Yaoyorozu — Creati

Quirk: Creation

U.A. Class: 1-A, Hero Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_f81a0e139d970c791f762ad7ed5837e7_22bb0e10_1280_7.png

A gentle, intelligent girl that comes from a very wealthy family, ready to become a hero and step out of the sheltered life she's lived so far. She becomes the third girl that bonds to Izuku and the second to level up, and soon proves herself a reliable friend who wants to help everyone. Her Quirk, Creation, allows her to use her natural fat reserves to create any object, as long as she knows its molecular composition and she holds its form in her mind.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: She's the only member of The Ennead who finds En's Punny Name between him and former sidekick Kagami (Both their names translates into "Smoke" and "Mirror") legitimately hilarious, while the rest cannot help grumbling and groaning at the pun. Both reactions delighting En himself.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Reaching Level 3 grants her access to One for All — which, apart from the serious increase to her strength, also grants her a practically unlimited source of energy for her Creation, which essentially removes her Quirk's weakest point.
    • After the Kamino Raid, she integrates Overhaul and Diagnosis into her Quirk, allowing her to repair inanimate objects and find any damage done to them.
  • Adaptational Modesty: At Izuku's suggestion, she requests a new costume that covers her up (and is more protective than her first costume) and laced with her DNA so she does not have to take off her clothes just to create an object.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She gets nicknamed "Yaomomo" early in the year by Mina, which she sees as a sign of friendship.
  • Arbitrarily Large Bank Account: While it's not stated exactly how wealthy her family is, their estate is large enough that it was apparently a legitimate concern the guest house Izuku would be staying at wouldn't be within a kilometer of her bedroom.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's very lady-like and gentle. When she learns about how horrible Izuku's middle school was, she asks for its name, cheering up when Izuku says Nezu is handling the matter since it means the school won't exist for much longer. She also takes great pleasure in acting as the bait to see if Mineta has changed, and tases him before dropping an intense combination of a stink bomb and pepper spray on him when it becomes clear that he has not repented.
    • She also nips the potential for a self-sacrificing fighting style that Izuku could have developed thanks to Super Regeneration after the Ennead got phantom pains through the link from Izuku throwing a OFA-boosted punch beyond his threshold of control by threatening to sell the figure Nighteye gave him.
  • Big Eater: Due to the requirements of her Quirk, she needs to eat a lot of food.
  • Birds of a Feather: She connects with Izuku through their intelligence and ability to analyze.
  • Class Representative: She's 1-A's Vice-president.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • She based her first costume on Midnight's original costume — the same one that prompted the Japanese Diet to pass a law limiting how much skin a hero could expose.
    • She also wasn't thinking that the bookshelf part of her original costume could potentially sever her spinal cord with one bad fall.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: One of the things she likes about U.A. is that she's making friends.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Manages to shoot a moving Nomu in the head with a crossbow bolt that has been tied to a steel cable.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Due to her sheltered and wealthy lifestyle, she does not realize that other people do not have the same outlook on life as hers (for example, her idea of a "casual eatery" is a high-class restaurant where most of her classmates would eat, at best, once a year, for a special occasion), but she's so adorable and earnest that none of the others can fault her.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Her life pre-U.A. seems to be quite sheltered due to her family's status.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's possibly the most attractive female student in 1-A.
  • Only Sane Woman: Out of the polycule, Momo is the only one to voice concerns about their wilder ideas and antics.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Gentle, beautiful, well-mannered, and joyful. As Mineta learns too late, that does not mean she can't be forceful when she needs to.
  • The Smart Girl: She's easily 1-A's smartest student, and her Quirk requires her to memorize and/or imagine the molecular structure of what she wants to make.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Izuku doing this to her after her loss to Shinso causes their bond to level up.

    Tsuyu Asui

Tsuyu Asui — Froppy

Quirk: Frog

U.A. Class: 1-A, Hero Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsuyu_1.png

A cute, frog-like girl who always means what she says and is not afraid of making her intent clear. She becomes the fourth girl that bonds with Izuku, the first to outright declare she's got a crush on him and the fourth to level up their bond to levels 2 and 3. Her Quirk, Frog, grants her great agility, the ability to stick to walls, a long prehensile tongue, and other abilities.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Her Level 3 Bond makes her tongue twice as long and lets her cover it in Blackwhip to act like armor, lets her grow webbing between her fingers, toes, arms, and legs (which allows her to glide), grow bone claws and make her mucus stronger and change its properties.
    • After the Kamino Raid, she gains access to Springlike Limbs and Super Regeneration.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: She's able to do anything a frog can.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She's really protective of her little siblings. Izuku being Friend to All Children leads to their bond leveling up.
  • Brutal Honesty: If she says something, she won't hold back from making things obvious. Justified, since her Quirk makes her not able to facially emote well, so she needs to say things out loud so people will understand her.
  • Gender Bender: In chapter 56, she reveals that reaching a level 3 bond has allowed her to change between male and female at will, though it’s noted to being not very fast nor painless, and it doesn’t change the length of their hair.
  • Multipurpose Tongue: Has a very long, prehensile tongue that only got longer once her bonding got to Level 3.
  • Poisonous Person: After her bond reaches level 3, the toxicity of her poison mucus becomes stronger.
  • Rescue Romance: Begins to get a crush on Izuku, and bonds to him, after he saves her from Shigaraki's attempt to murder her, and then she saves him from a Nomu.
  • The Stoic: Her mutant Quirk makes it hard for her to facially emote.
  • Tongue Trauma: During the Kamino fight where the Ennead crash their way into via Level 4 Bonding teleport, Gluttony bit her tongue, and the only reason she still has an intact tongue is thanks to her Blackwhip covering.
  • Verbal Tic: She tends to add a "ribbit" at odd points while she speaks. Even when she speaks through the bond.

    Toru Hagakure

Toru Hagakure — Prism

Quirk: Invisibility

U.A. Class: 1-A, Hero Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toru_0.png

Cheerful and full of energy, Toru could easily pass as the typical happy girl if it weren't for the fact that she's invisible due to her Quirk, "Invisibility" — all students see of her is her floating clothes. She becomes the fifth girl to bond with Izuku, doing so after she begins to crush on him because of his help in getting her a proper hero costume.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • After realizing Aoyama's light rays refract if going through her, she manages to develop a new move mid-fight to bend the next ray so it hits him instead.
    • During her internship, she learns how to refract light in such a way she actually can become visible. It takes a lot of concentration, though, so she can only be visible for a short time.
    • Reaching Level 3 in her bond to Izuku lets her choose who can see her and who can't, and can make nearby people and anything she touches invisible too.
    • After the Kamino Raid, she can now manipulate her invisibility fields.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Her hero name is Prism instead of her canon Invisible Girl.
  • Beautiful All Along: When her real appearance is revealed at the end of Chapter 23, Izuku and Ochako were utterly shocked by how stunning she is.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Begins to crush on Izuku (and triggers their bond) after he ensures she can get a hero costume that can protect her.
  • Birds of a Feather: Quickly becomes friends with Mina and Setsuna.
  • Genki Girl: She's always cheerful and chipper. Izuku considers this one of her strongest points, stating it makes her one of the prettiest people he's ever met.
  • Invisible Streaker: Her first hero uniform was just a pair of gloves and shoes. When he learns this, Izuku is aghast, because he believed she was using a specialized uniform, and insists on getting her to the Support Department so that she can be fitted with something appropriate.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Her invisibility makes her this to people who need to target a person to use their Quirks, which she proves by pummeling Chronostasis during the Kamino Raid, as the villain needs to see his target to hit them and also needs to stay still to do that.
  • Sleeps in the Nude: Izuku has the hardest time finding Toru in the cuddle pile he wakes up in due to her lack of clothes.
  • You Can See Me?: When Toru leveled up to a stage 3 bond, she can choose who can see her, though when it leveled up, she was also naked with Izuku who can suddenly see her au natural.

    Melissa Shield

Melissa Shield — Shieldmaiden

Quirk: Quirkless —> Battery

U.A. Class: 3-H, Support Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melissa_1.png

The daughter of All Might's first sidekick, David Shield, and a scientist in her own right. Thanks to her father's support, she is a rising star in the scientific community and I-Island. Becomes the sixth girl to bond with Izuku after he expresses the wish of becoming friends with her.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Gaining a Quirk and joining U.A. makes her far more formidable in a fight than in canon.
    • She gets Springlike Limbs after the Kamino Raid, but can use any of the other Quirks Izuku got by concentrating.
  • Ascended Extra: Her only role is in My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, but here she is a member of Izuku's Battle Harem, and transferred to U.A. after Hosu.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She quickly becomes the person responsible for keeping Mei's explosions in check after arriving to U.A., proving to be capable enough to instantly correct one of Mei's designs to make it safe.
  • Commonality Connection: One of the reasons she connects with Izuku is because he was Quirkless. It's also why All Might is the Vestige that manages their bond.
  • Growing Muscles Sequence: Using Battery causes her to become much more muscular, rather like her Honorary Uncle All-Might.
  • Jewish and Nerdy: Chapter 65 reveals she is Jewish and she is undoubtedly a hero nerd, just like her boyfriend.
  • Not So Above It All: Melissa usually has the job of keeping Mei in check. When the topic of making a giant Super Sentai robot comes up, she says that making one would be too costly in resources — it would be simpler to just build power armor and have Yui use her Quirk to enlarge it.
  • Shock and Awe: Battery allows her to release blue lightning charges.
  • The Smart Girl: She's a scientist and engineer, and growing as such thanks to living in I-Island.
  • Super-Empowering: By reaching Level 2 with her bond with Izuku, she gains a boost to her physical abilities. Izuku reaching Level 3 with his bond with Momo allows him to create a Quirk that he bestows to Melissa, giving her her own enhancement Quirk.
  • The Team Normal: She's the only Quirkless member of Izuku's Battle Harem. At least until Izuku gives her a Quirk in chapter 33.

    Nejire Hadou

Nejire Hadou — Nejire-Chan

Quirk: Wave Motion

U.A. Class: 3-A, Hero Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nejire_0.png

A third-year heroics student Izuku meets in the aftermath of his encounter with Overhaul. She becomes the seventh girl Izuku bonds with when Izuku shows that he is as curious about stuff as she is.

  • Amicable Exes: With Yuyu Haya. As Nejire explains it, Yuyu wanted to stay exclusive, but Nejire being poly put a damper on it.
  • Constantly Curious: She has a child-like sense of curiosity that pushes her to fire a lot of questions before the other person can reply. This ends up becoming one of the reasons why she bonds with Izuku, because not only he can reply to her questions, but he also fires just as many questions back in the same way.
  • Flying Firepower: She could already use her Quirk to fly and shoot energy blasts, but her bond reaching Level 3 not only massively increases the power and speed of her Wave Motion, it also allows her to functionally ignore its Cast from Stamina status.
  • The Glomp: She jumps to hug Izuku when she finds out about the bonds.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Her inquisitive nature causes Nejire to fire off some apparently very rude questions to Tsuyu's family, though the Bond causes her to realize what she's doing and she quickly apologizes.
  • Motor Mouth: She can fire off questions very fast due to her curious nature. She might, in fact, be the only person that can do this faster than Izuku.
  • Perpetual-Motion Monster: Downplayed. Nejire still needs to eat and drink, but after her bond reaches Level 3, not only can she use her Quirk indefinitely, she can also convert her version of One For All into stamina, meaning she never grows tired. Getting Survivor after the Kamino Raid ensures her energy drains even slower.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Compared to the rest of the Ennead, Nejire's Quirk doesn't get any additional bells and whistles after her bond reaches Level 3, and instead just lessens the toll it takes on her and even utilize both One for All and Fa Jin to restore her energy levels. It's all she needs, truth be told.

    Yui Kodai

Yui Kodai — Rule

Quirk: Size

U.A. Class: 1-A, Hero Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yui_89.png

A quiet and stony-faced girl. Her Quirk, "Size", allows her to change the size of any non-living object she touches. She becomes the eighth and last girl to bond to Izuku, doing so after the internships when she learns about the polycule.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Reaching Level 3 in her bond with Izuku lets her permanently change an object's size or tie them to a person's size (which she uses to make a pair of boots for Mt. Lady), while the connection with One for All allows her to fire energy blasts or make things explode by feeding energy to them.
    • After the Kamino Raid, she gets the Total Body Enhancement package, as well as a modification to her power (based on Overhaul) that lets her change the size of people - including herself.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The second half of Chapter 77 happens mostly during Yui's POV, featuring her and Mt. Lady fighting against Gigantomachia.
  • Ascended Fangirl: A tokutatsu fan who gets to live her dream not only by gaining a Powered Armor and becoming capable of growing to the size of a building, but she also gets the chance to renact a fight straight out of Ultraman or Power Rangers by fighting against Gigantomachia, the story's resident kaiju.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Yui beats the ever loving hell out of Machia during their fight, and since the titan is nor use to an opponent who not only fights back but also is far more skilled than he is, Yui and Mt. Lady are successful in defeating him.
  • Emotionless Girl: She's very stoic and rarely displays emotions. Unlike people (like Tsuyu) whose Quirks prevent them from doing that, Yui is just that way.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Her Quirk allows her to change the size of an object she has touched.
    • During the Heroes vs Villains, she pretty much secures the win by shrinking the bomb and putting it into her pocket (forcing the heroes to attempt to capture her and Pony) and then making it harder for the heroes to move around by enlarging obstacles.
    • At the USJ, she combines it with Ochako's Zero Gravity, causing an avalanche that becomes the second most destructive attack of the day, only behind All Might's punches.
    • She combines it with a slingshot, allowing her to fire small projectiles and increase their size mid-flight to bolster their power.
  • Henshin Hero: Her post-Kamino hero costume changes into armor by saying "Henshin".
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Despite being the most stoic and quietest member of 1-A, she's very chatty when texting and an outright Motor Mouth through her telepathic link to the polycule.
    • She's also as much of a geek as Izuku, only her love is for pre-Quirk fictional American and Japanese heroes. She mentions being inspired by Ultraman for her hero costume, which pulls inspiration from Ultraseven.
  • I Don't Want to Ruin Our Friendship: She does admit to Kyoka and Ibara that she's interested in Izuku, but she hasn't acted because, as she puts it, "he and Ochako are basically married", unaware that they're in a polyamorous relationship. The moment she does learn about it, though, she takes her chance and bonds with him.
  • Motor Mouth: It turns out that while she might be The Quiet One outwardly, she's a very intense and fast speaker in her mind, something Izuku becomes aware of when his bond with her upgrades to Level 2.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Downplayed. Unlike most people, who think Izuku's Motor Mouth mumbling is creepy, Yui is really interested in it.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • When she was working with Momo to make Izuku's present (an action figure set of him, the girls, Class 1-A and the teachers and family) she also got a bunch of figures of Shigaraki, the Nomus, Overhaul, Bakugo, and Mineta — just so she can make scenes of the latter getting beaten by Izuku and the girls.
    • She's very interested in getting a Super Sentai robot, particularly after her Level 3 bond lets her fire energy blasts, and she asks for a sword just so she can call it TsuRuleGi.
  • Not So Stoic: When Melissa suggests making Yui a set of Power Armor that she could use her Quirk on to grow into a giant robot, her mouth splits into a wide smile and her eyes glitter with utter joy at the thought.
  • Otaku: Yui is a massive Tokusatsu fan, and it shows. During Hikage's segment of Kyuseishu, she ends up getting interested in Spider-Man when she learns how much Toei's Spider-Man influenced the genre years afterwards.
  • The Quiet One: She does not speak much. She is quite the intense writer when texting, though.
  • Sizeshifter: After the Kamino Raid, she can use her Quirk to change the size of living objects, including herself.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: During the media management exercise, Yui mentions it's easier to face S-Rank Villains than doing interviews.
  • The Stoic: She doesn't express emotions through her face.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Tomato with mozzarella and balsamic vinaigrette.
  • Tranquil Fury: After the MLA ruins the polycule's Valentine's Day date, Yui keeps a very stoic facade to hide how pissed she is over their interference. As soon as she spots a group of Liberation soldiers, she grows 10 meters tall and proceeds to trash the villains up.
