    The Protagonist

Eldan Traveler
Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae (JP)
The hero of Metaphor: ReFantazio and childhood friend of Euchronia's crown prince.

A member of the Elda Tribe, the Protagonist is marked as "tainted" by the state religion who believe he has inherited dangerous and heretical magic powers.
  • Breaking Old Trends: As seen in previews and promotional materials, the Protagonist is one of the rare heroes in an Atlus game to NOT be the Silent Protagonist, a distinction he shares alongside Ringo. Furthermore, while the Protagonist looks human, he's explicitly stated to be otherwise as the humans of Metaphor: ReFantazio are a species of bizarre monsters. This makes the Protagonist the third non-human Player Character in an Atlus title, the first being the Demi-fiend (who becomes a Half-Human Hybrid and potentially a full-blown demon) and the second being Ringo (an artificial intelligence given a human-like avatar to interact with the real world).
  • Fantastic Racism: On the receiving end. The religious powers of Euchronia consider the Elda Tribe, or at least the Protagonist in particular, to be heretics for having supposed dangerous and forbidden powers.
  • Find the Cure!: Joins the Royal Tournament to find a means to break the prince's curse.
  • The Hero: A given as he is the main character of the game.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: His right eye is gold and possesses a strange power.

    Gallica

Fairy Companion
Voiced by: Sumire Morohoshi (JP)
The Protagonist's partner and companion. Although too small to participate in battles, Gallica assists the party with her knowledge of magic and keen ability to sense magla.
  • Fairy Companion: She's a fairy who accompanies the protagonist in a non-combat support role.
  • Recurring Element: Another companion character who is always with the Protagonist and is a supporter type class is a stable of Atlus games. Her appearance brings to mind Pixie, who is usually the first demon available to the protagonist in Shin Megami Tensei games.
  • Token Mini-Moe: By far the smallest member of the party, including Heismay.

    Strohl

Noble Clemar
Voiced by: Kensho Ono (JP)
A member of the Clemar Tribe and member of a noble family.
  • Blue Blood: Promotional materials note he's a member of a noble family, which raises a few eyebrows as joining the State Army would mean fighting alongside commoners.
  • Horned Humanoid: He has tiny horns jutting out from under his hair.

    Hulkenberg

Roussainte Kingsguard
Voiced by: Saori Hayami (JP)
A member of the Roussainte Tribe.

Previously, Hulkenberg served the royal family as part of its Kingsguard and was assigned as the prince's personal bodyguard. She left the Kingsguard after the prince became cursed and now travels with the Protagonist in the hopes of breaking the curse.
  • Gender-Blender Name: You'd expect someone named "Hulkenberg", which literally means 'hulking castle' in German, to be some mountain of a man, and not a lithe, elven-like lady knight.
  • My Greatest Failure: Promotional materials mention this is how she feels about the prince being cursed since she was supposed to protect him. Now she carries the stigma for her failure in her heart.
  • Our Elves Are Different: She has the classic Deedlit style ears but are Lynx like at the very tips.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Hulkenberg towers over the rest of the party.

    Heismay

Eugief Knight
A former knight of the Eugief Tribe.
  • Beast Man: Moreso than the other confirmed races in the world of Metaphor: ReFantazio. While some races with bestial features are shown to be human-esque, Heismay looks more like a bipedal bat.
  • Fantastic Racism: Promotional materials note that, due to their appearance, prejudice toward the Eugief is not uncommon.
  • Token Non-Human: While the tribes of Euchronia all appear human aside from certain features like the Clemar's horns or the Roussainte's ears, Heismay is the least human-looking of the party, having a bat-like appearance.
