- Creator's Oddball: In contrast to the post-apocalyptic settings of Shin Megami Tensei and game titles involving high school students battling supernatural forces based on Jungarian psychology, Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of Atlus' rare High Fantasy JRPGs.
- Development Hell: To put it into perspective, the game was first announced back in 2017. Beyond small bits of information and a trailer released a year later plus concept art featuring the red-haired elf woman, all news went dead quiet to the point many believed the game became Vaporware. It would not be until June 2023 Atlus gave updates on the game by revealing a new trailer featuring gameplay and release date.
- Vaporware: The game was announced all the way back in 2017 alongside Shin Megami Tensei V, but no details were given at the time other than some concept artwork and the game's working title until 2023, when it was finally revealed to the public.
- What Could Have Been: During the game's early stages of development, the setting was once going to be a Medieval European Fantasy as shown in the concept artworks released when the game was announced.
