Characters / Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail: The Infinity Train

Go To

The Infinity Train is an otherworldly train that picks up people who are going through mental trauma and pain in their life. The Train is filled with numerous Cars and quirky denizens who are here to help the passengers work through their troubles so they can make it back home.

    open/close all folders

    In General
  • Adaptation Species Change: All of them were artificial in the canon series, while here at least some of them used to be humans.
  • Ambiguous Situation: As of this writing, there's no real way to tell the difference between the average Denizen and those made out of recycled Passenger souls. On the one hand, you could argue that the more humanoid Denizens are those who used to be Passengers since the average Denizen tends to be quite deep into the "what the heck" scale of anthropomorphism. But on the other hand, even the Denizens who're mostly humanoid have something that makes them look just as weird as natural ones.
  • Rule of Symbolism: During Chloe's initial trip through the Train, where her bias are at an all time high, most of the Denizens she meets are flat allegories for what she went through, and which she wastes no time beating up if they get on her bad side. As Chloe keeps going and Graying Morality begins to take effect, the Denizens start to gain layers of complexity to them.
  • Was Once a Man: Some of the Denizens we see are made out of the souls of deceased Passengers.

The Conductor

    One-One

One-One / "One"

A spherical robot with two personalities that is actually the true Conductor of the Infinity Train. He's seen in an introductory video made for passengers entering the Train to explain what to do and how to get their numbers down. In Blossoming Trail, his role is to help lead the Red Lotus Trio to stop the Apex and in Voyage of Wisteria, he creates a PSA about the dangers about Ogami.
  • Ascended Extra: Somewhat. He's a key player in the entire series but never makes an appearance in Book 3 (which is when the story takes place). He's fully aware of the Apex this time around and is trying to stop them from doing any more harm and has a video chat with Chloe in the Cyan Desert Car.
  • Big Good: Of the Infinity Train itself, being the true Conductor. He is also well-aware of the Apex and their machinations this time around and he's trying to put as many cars as he can between Grace and Simon and the Mall Car to stall them.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Glad-One doesn't quite get the seriousness of a child dying on the train and having their soul converted into a denizen...as far as he thinks, they now have "all the time in the world" to learn their lesson. Sad-One is slightly better but just views it as yet another obituary to check off his long list.
    • In Chrysanthemum Shepherd he doesn't see anything wrong with murdering Alex Shepherd in order to repurpose him as The Bogeyman to stop the Apex.
  • The Ghost: He's off making documentaries of numerous cars according to Atticus during Arc 1. Later revealed in Arc 2 that he's trying to stall Grace and Simon from returning to home-base.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's usually called a bowling ball due to his round shape.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: One-One being revealed as the true Conductor wasn't revealed until the end of Book 1. Here, it's spelled out loud and clear who he is (as his videos were being used at the start of Book 2).
  • Light Is Good: A white spherical robot who wishes to have passengers face their problems head-on. Well that was him prior to Amelia taking over as the Conductor.
  • Mr. Exposition: His video helps explains to Chloe why she's on the train, what her number means, and what she has to do to go home (not that she wants to do that last part at the time).
  • Nice Guy: One-One is a really nice robot who just wants to guide passengers to the best selves they can be. Not so much when he was "One"...
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Tomas in Knight of the Orange Lily tells him that the entire situation with Amelia and the Apex was their fault: the former for explaining to Amelia on how the Train could create anything and the latter stemming from One-One not doing anything to tell the Apex about how the train works.
Sad-One: Pour that all over me, why don't you?
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: For the train as a whole, and allows for Chloe's request to be dropped off where she wants to.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Ascended Extra he may be, but his role is still fairly minor and hands off compared to the Red Lotus Trio. That being said, not only did his video help Chloe survive long enough to go through the Train, but he's the one who tasks them to stop The Apex, setting up the stage for Arc 3.
    • Him dropping Chloe off at her school, is what has Chloe save her classmates from Ms. Turner.

Denizens

Introduced in "Blossoming Trail"

    Titus
A humanoid made of paper who Chloe and Atticus meet in the Library of Flying Books Car/Azada. He tasks Chloe to not only tend to the books but also answer a riddle of what makes her so similar to all the previous passengers who entered the library. He is also later revealed to be Lexi's father.
  • Action Dad: He doesn't fight but his encounter with Grace and Simon proves that he will get personal if he has to. Lexi had to get this from somewhere. In ''Voyage of Wisteria' he joins Hop, Alain and Paul to a trip to Maccadam's to topple the Unsub's plans and is capable of trapping Noodle Burger Boy even after his papers are doused with condiments.
  • Art Initiates Life: He can draw on the papers that make up his body to make things come to life. For example, drawing a flame will cause a fire. He uses it to heat up the oven and stove for Chloe to cook lunch with. He can create a barrier by drawing two circles and a raincloud for when Chloe is doused with hot water to cool her skin.
  • Ascended Extra: His role in Blossoming Trail, while minor, is what made Chloe take the first steps to grow, exposed the cruelty of the Apex to her and he allowed his son to join up with her and Atticus, forming the Red Lotus Trio. In Voyage of Wisteria, he appears again to help his son let go of his anger towards the Apex and when Vox hijacks the Signal Car, he decides to join Hop, Alain and Paul to dismantle the Unsub's Crew, heading off to Maccadam's for answers.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's a kind caretaker to flying books and makes sure to treat Chloe kindly during her stay. When he confronts Grace and Simon years after their first visit, he's ready to murder them for how they crippled and then buried his son, Lexi.
  • The Cameo: Appears near the end of Blossoming Trail hearing Chloe's farewell speech.
  • The Caretaker: He tends to the flying books in his car and tasks passengers to also care for them while trying to answer his riddle.
  • Composite Character: He uses a paper form to talk to Chloe like in Azada: In Libro but he resides in a magical library like in Azada: Ancient Magic.
  • Flying Books: He resides in a library filled with them.
  • Good Parents: He was nothing more than patient and loving with Lexi, laughing at fond memories they have and declares that Lexi's "punishment" for harming Chloe is that he is to travel with her, giving his son the chance to truly explore the train as he wanted and with someone who would keep him in line. He's also an understanding father figure for Goh to help him move on from the angst he's gone through.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: He trusted Grace and Simon to take care of his son...they took care of him by ripping him apart and burying him alive. In his defense, Grace is quite the charmer.
  • My Greatest Failure: Against his better judgment, he allowed Lexi to be a partner for two passengers... said passengers being Grace and Simon. He didn't know that Simon tore Lexi apart and buried him underground, and unaware that his son never left the car for the past eight years.
  • Nice Guy: Acting more of a father figure than Chloe's own, he's patient, kind, and showers her with an Alice Day celebration on her last day in Azada. It's no wonder Chloe didn't want to leave.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In Voyage of Wisteria, Lexi notes this when his father hands him Simon's old novel. Usually, Titus reads the book and prepares to give them life. So the fact that the novel isn't animated confuses him.
  • Paper People: He's a human construct completely made out of paper. He later elaborates that he also has a book like Lexi which the papers are separated from.
  • Papa Wolf: Don't hurt his son or the books that he tends to. Grace and Simon should be lucky he let them leave Azada after he finds out what they did to Lexi.
  • Parents as People: He's pretty much a better father than Chloe and Goh's, but he's still haunted by how he let Lexi leave with Grace and Simon and thus had no idea his son was in the hands of two sociopaths.
  • Real Men Can Cook: He cooks in Azada and even goes as far as to make a delicious Black Forest cheesecake for Chloe's Unbirthday.
  • Retcon: Later stories where he appears in address him as a King. This stems from Infinity Train: Melancholy Afterlife (prequel to Infinity Train: Boiling Point) where the author of the latter mistook Chloe insulting Lexi as a "spoiled prince" as literal and addressed Titus as royalty.
  • Shout-Out: He's from the PC hidden object/puzzle game Azada, which happens to be the name of the library he resides in.
  • Stealth Mentor: Noticing the tension between Lexi and Chloe, he eagerly announced that Chloe would be heading off from Azada the day after her Unbirthday and leaves it at that before leaving to cook in the kitchen. Lexi and Chloe begin to slowly bond during that time, when Chloe makes him over as the "Specter of the Black Forest" and the two dance to the Lobster Quadrille that by the time they have the Unbirthday, Lexi apologizes to Chloe for getting her injured, to which Chloe forgives him almost immediately. This then spills into Chloe figuring out her answer to Titus' riddle but it also reveals that Titus was going to let Lexi be free to join her on her adventures through the train, so his son can finally have a chance to explore.
  • Tranquil Fury: Calmly tells Lexi to get aloe vera for Chloe's hot water burns, although the narration notes that it looked like he was ready to toss his son into a bonfire. Barring a few outbursts, he calmly tells Grace and Simon to leave his sight and never return to Azada.

    The Erlking
The leader of a band of ghostly hunters in The Midnight Car who wishes for Chloe to join them.
  • Comically Serious: Despite being a ghastly elf-king, he also carries around something called a "Princess Check-list" and jots down every single princess trope that Chloe has (much to her annoyance).
  • Crazy-Prepared: Who carries a Princess Check-List in the case of meeting up with a girl who absolutely detests being called that?
  • Deal with the Devil: Extends a hand to Chloe to join him into his hunt with his pretty daughters and bright music. Chloe refuses.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: He immediately labels Chloe a princess and then brings out a check-list of every single trope that falls into that role without a second thought of thinking that the girl could be something other than that (even when Chloe pipes up that she's the daughter of a scientist).
  • Facial Markings: He has red ones over his face.
  • The Fair Folk: The Erlking is a member of these and wishes to take Chloe away into this realm. Chloe declines and then he decides to get forceful with her.
  • Flat "What": His reaction when Chloe hits a pinecone at his face with her donut holer and it does nothing to him (except serve as a distraction for Lexi to turn into an origami gryphon that vomits out spiders).
Erlking: What exactly did that accomplish?
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Has empty white eyes and threatens to take Chloe to his home in the woods.
  • Mystical White Hair: He has white hair and is a ghastly elf king.
  • Noble Demon: He did chase after Chloe when she refused to take his offer to join the hunt, but after she knocks him off his horse, he gives a nod and smile at her having bested him and retreats into the forest.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Starter Villain: The first antagonist Chloe fights on the Train.
  • Villain Has a Point: Two of the remarks he makes about Chloe being a princess is her being "kidnapped" and "cursed". When Chloe is about to retort, she stops since technically he's right. The Train kidnapped her and she's "cursed" to stay on the train until her number drops to 0.
  • Villain Respect: He smiles at Chloe when she bested him before she leaves the car.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Has white hair and entices Chloe to join him in the land of the fairies. But when she refuses, he doesn't hesitate to try to take her away by force. It makes him a contrast to Lexi's own grey hair and how Lexi truly cares for Chloe.
  • The Wild Hunt: He is the leader of this.

    Nico
A plush penguin with a reputation for being picky, preferring bagels over the ice cream that all his peers favor.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Since his tastes don't quite align with the prevailing preference for ice cream, his stall is always located at the end of the line for every Penguin Potluck. As Atticus notes, that means that by the time others get there, they'd be too full from tasting everything else.
    • In the Plush Penguin Car, he reveals that it's not even that unusual for penguins to figure out alternative ways of embracing their flavor. But somebody started teasing him for his differences anyway, and all the others join in because they don't want to be picked on next.
  • Break the Cutie: Despite all the bullying he's endured, what causes him to crack is learning that the nice group his best friend Cara chose to travel with was the Apex and that she was likely murdered by them. Thankfully it's revealed that Cara made it out alive, but she had been busy with other things to go back home.
  • The Cameo: He and Cara are watching Chloe's farewell video near the end of Arc 3 and Hazel talks to him in the prologue for Voyage of Wisteria.
  • Crash-Into Hello: He met Cara this way when they were chicks as he collided into her and spilled sea salt over some perfectly made caramels.
  • Eye Scream: When the Apex attacked his car years ago, Simon threw sea salt into his eyes.
  • Odd Name Out: All penguins in his car are named after ice cream flavors, except him (he's based on sea salt ice cream).
  • Picky Eater: Downplayed; he doesn't hate ice cream like his fellow plush penguins; he just prefers bagels. But that doesn't stop them from calling him a "picky penguin" either way.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: One of the penguins in the car is a pink female penguin named Strawberry while he's a cyan penguin representing sea salt ice cream.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Cara; they see each other as good friends and not a hint of Ship Tease in sight.
  • Plot Parallel: He's essentially mirroring how Chloe is ostracized for not liking Pokémon but later learns to bring ice cream and bagels together in his own way like how Chloe eventually finds out she can get into Pokémon via lore and mythology.
  • Shout-Out: A picky penguin based on sea salt ice cream (colored blue) who likes bagels and is named Nico, huh?
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Bagels! He's determined to get the other penguins to appreciate them just as much as they do ice cream.
  • Why Didn't I Think of That?: Reacts this way when Atticus suggest that he could use bagels as the sandwich part of ice cream sandwiches.

    Emperor Neapolitan
Rules over the Plush Penguin Car and its annual Potluck.
  • Cool Crown: One that probably out-rivals the one Atticus wears, colored with shades of brown, white and pink to match his namesake.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Atticus is deeply unimpressed by the revelation of what he considers his greatest failure to be, noting that this regret never motivated him to change his ways or address the actual problems at hand.
  • My Greatest Failure: Deeply regrets what happened with the Apex four years prior to Chloe's arrival, feeling ashamed by how he failed to prevent their carnage... or prevent Caramel from leaving with them. However, it's made clear that he learned nothing from the incident, as he made no move to deal with the problems left in its wake.
  • Why Couldn't You Be Different?: Treats Nico as a mild disappointment over his obsession with bagels, lamenting his inability to conform.

    Cara
Nico's best friend, a caramel-themed penguin who left to accompany a guest on their journey through the Train some years ago.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: A sweet penguin unafraid to challenge others in defense of her friends, and who managed to trick the Apex into underestimating her by throwing salt into their eyes like how they did to Nico.
  • Brainy Brunette: A caramel colored penguin with enough guile to throw salt into the eyes of the Apex and escape with her life intact.
  • The Cameo: Appears near the end of Arc 3 with Nico listening to Chloe's farewell video and another in the prologue for Voyage of Wisteria during Hazel's video call to Nico.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She'll throw salt into someone's eyes if it means making an escape.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: She's a feminine penguin who can cook a lot of meals; she mentions that she experimented in the Charcoal car to cook numerous dishes with infused charcoal powder.
  • The Ghost: Sooty, the two headed dog in the Charcoal Car, mentions her in Knight of the Orange Lily. Justified in that she already left the Charcoal Car with Trip years ago.
  • Hero of Another Story: She had her own adventures with Trip when the boy entered the Charcoal Car.
  • Inseries Nickname: She's mostly known as Caramel, but everyone calls her 'Cara' for short.
  • Only Sane Man: Was the only one of her peers who really looked past Nico's 'unusual tastes', and the only one willing to stand up for him when he needed it most.
  • Meaningful Name: Cara means "love", as she has a sweetheart who cares for others. This is what prevented her from going back to the Plush Penguin Car so soon, as she tended to the friendly dog who gave her shelter from the Apex and became Trip's denizen partner on the last legs of his journey.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Nico, as there are no signs of them being romantically involved.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: There's no hint as to whether or not she and Nico got together, but she is not going to let anyone hurt her friend. She's one of the only few denizens that survived the wrath of the Apex.
  • Walking Spoiler: She was assumed to have been killed off by the Apex. Turns out, she escaped them then spent the next few years in hiding, accompanying a passenger (Trip) before finally going back home.

    Morpho, Holly Blue, and Swallowtail
A trio of fairies who runs the Hotel Crayola in the Crayon Car.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Morpho and Holly Blue both have blue eyes and blue hair. Justified in this case cause they're siblings.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Swallowtail dresses in complete black, but she's the one who made the dim sum banquet for the Peci in the Crayon Car.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Both Holly and Swallowtail cook the breakfast buffet in the Hotel Crayola.
  • Nice Guy: Morpho is very friendly and wishes nothing more than to have those who pass by the Crayon Car to leave with happy memories. Holly is also willing to invite Chloe, Atticus, and Lexi to join Swallowtail's Dim Sum feast and have them row across the lake.
  • Pale Females, Dark Males: Via hair colors since Morpho's hair is somewhat darker than Holly Blue's.
  • Pretty Butterfly: All of them have butterfly wings and are named after different species of butterflies.

    King Aloysius
An elderly turtle who rules over the Unfinished Car and a good friend of Atticus. But when Atticus stopped receiving word from him, this spurs the King of Corginia to team with Chloe and Lexi to find answers.
  • The Cameo: Appears in a video call with Atticus in the prologue to Voyage of Wisteria.
  • Expy:
    • Has code based off of Atticus — a close look at Aloysius' guards in "The Unfinished Car" reveal the pauldrons are based on corgis — and Atticus even states that would've made them brothers in a sense.
    • In the show, his voice was similar to Alrick, Amelia's husband. Makes sense since The Unfinished Car was one of the cars she built as the Conductor.
  • The Ghost: He is mentioned by Atticus, but makes no physical appearance in Blossoming Trail. Justified since the Apex raided his car and said car was sent into quarantine by Amelia.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Atticus losing contact with him is what spurs him to join Chloe and Lexi to stop the Apex.
  • Uncertain Doom: While the Apex did raid his car and caused chaos, he's not seen at all in Blossoming Trail. And the last that was heard of the car was that it was sent into quarantine by Amelia. Luckily, it's later confirmed that he's okay and he and Atticus talk in the prologue to Voyage of Wisteria.

    Varon
A jackalope denizen in the Canals of Fondue Car who runs the Mallow's Magical Malasadas shop.

    Gadreel
An angel who rules the Burial Ground of Blades Car, having kept Zack prisoner to make him fight to the death with other passengers by holding Ray hostage.
  • Karmic Death: Gadreel is an angel who gets killed off by Zack, who gives himself the nickname "Angel of Death".
  • Meaningful Name: He's named after the supposed angel that allowed Lucifer to enter the Garden of Eden. This Gadreel runs a colosseum called "Garden of Madness".
  • Off with His Head!: Zack slices his head off as payback.
  • Paper Tiger: For all his talk being a powerful angel who had Zack under his thumb, Lexi makes quick work of him with his paper abilities before Zack pays the favor back by beheading him.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Has a lilac tunic and purple wings, however, he gets a bullet in his palm, a large gash on his neck, and Zack beheads him so he's all talk but no walk.
  • Uncertain Doom: Whether he comes back after Zack beheads him is up in the air. Lexi himself even lampshades this.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Pure white hair, malicious personality.

    Olmec
A giant talking head with glowing red eyes who is the host of the Hidden Temple Car. Those who enter must retrieve a relic within the Temple itself in order to pass.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: The Big Good in his original series, but he seems to be more pragmatic and wouldn't mind if he made passengers, particulrly the Apex, into Temple Guards.
  • Ambiguously Evil: While he does give the Red Lotus Trio information to stop the Apex and important artifacts, he also doesn't mind the deaths of numerous cruel children...
  • Ambiguous Situation: Was he serious in how he wanted the Apex dead so he can get some Temple Guards?
  • Big Good: Second to One-One, he's the one who helps the Red Lotus Trio prepare for their destiny to stop the Apex.
  • Creepy Good: Again, a giant talking head with glowing red eyes is immediately an indicator for scary and frightening. But not evil. He's actually the most important denizen of Arc 2.
  • It May Help You on Your Quest: He gives a map about the locations of Grace and Simon to Lexi, a Pendant of Life to Atticus, and to Chloe a cloak that will let her turn into a wolf, breathe fire and see into a person's soul. Chloe even questions why the heck she would need that last ability as she didn't mind being a winged fire-breathing wolf demon.
  • Mr. Exposition: To the legends of treasures inside the Car and gives some insight to the Red Lotus Trio about what One-One is planning and what should happen if a passenger dies while on the Train.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Maybe. He does make passengers enter a humongous temple filled with frights, preferably the Temple Guards, and he did imply that he would like to use the souls of Grace and Simon as future guards.
  • Pet the Dog: His appearance in Knight of the Orange Lily showed that he was truly happy that Mallow (age 5) survived the Hidden Temple and gave her encouragement to face the future.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Downplayed; he has glowing red eyes but he's a benevolent stone head.
  • Small Role, Big Impact:
    • Is only in two stories (a flashback in Knight of the Orange Lily and one chapter in Blossoming Trail) but imparting knowledge about what the Apex is going to face if they aren't stopped soon, what happens to passengers if they die, One-One's plan and granting gifts for the Red Lotus Trio sets the stage for Arc 2 and 3.
    • The Pendant of Life he gifts Atticus, saved Chloe from having her soul taken by Ogami in Voyage of Wisteria, as he snuck one of his stone butterflies into her backpack to be reborn as a denizen.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He implies that he wouldn't mind making the Apex turned into Temple Guards for his car and has no qualms on the Apex being repurposed. He doesn't share that idea to Mallow when she, at age 5, tackled his Temple challenges and is quite happy that she survived the temple all by herself.

    Hazel
See her tropes here

    Tuba
A purple gorilla with tubas on her shoulders, and is Hazel's caretaker in the Jungle Car. She also has traveled the train with Mallow in the past.
  • Action Mom: She was the mother to a child in the past (Bugle) and acted as the Parental Substitute for Mallow and Hazel.
  • The Cameo: Appears in Mallow's flashback in Knight of the Orange Lily.
  • Cheated Death, Died Anyway: Somewhat. Because Amelia stops using the pulses upon seeing Hazel, this means that the ending of "The Color Clock Car" never happened and Tuba makes it all the way to the Fog Car...and then dies by Simon's hand anyhow.
  • Berserk Button: Do not hurt Hazel if you know what's good for you.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Somewhat. She does end up dropping to her death like in canon by Simon but instead of being wheeled, she lives long enough from the impact of the fall to say some final words to Hazel.
  • Disappears into Light: Her ultimate fate after she dies.
  • Doomed by Canon: Inevitably killed by Simon. She ends up falling to her doom when Simon/Destruction drops her from the ground. At the very least, she's able to say her farewells to Hazel.
  • Gentle Giant: A giant gorilla who acts as a mother figure to lost passengers.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Smiles and sings the first line of her lullaby before she dies.
  • Greater Need Than Mine: Tells Atticus to revive Chloe (who fell to her death by Simon) with his Pendant of Life as she knows that the girl has a family to get back to.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Pushes Hazel out of the way from Simon/Destruction and ends up falling to her death. When given the chance to be revived, she refuses it and says that Chloe deserves it more.
  • Hero of Another Story: Took care of Mallow while she was on the Train many years ago.
  • Killer Gorilla: Subverted; she's actually gentle (like real-life gorillas) unless it involves hurting Hazel.
  • Last Request: Tells Atticus to use his Pendant of Life to revive Chloe and to help Chloe send a message for Mallow. She then gives Hazel her satchel and sings the first line of her lullaby.
  • Mama Bear: Threaten to hurt Hazel and she will attack you.
  • Meaningful Name: Named for the two tubas strapped to her back.
  • Parental Substitute: Acts as a mother figure for both Hazel and was once one for Mallow years ago.
  • The Quiet One: Is not much of a talker.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Like in canon, her death is the catalyst of making Grace realize she made horrible mistakes that will make her end the Apex's phillosophy for good and her telling Atticus to use the Pendant of Life on Chloe means she'll be able to return home safely. Moreover, because she lets Chloe live, this means that Ogami loses the chance to have Chloe's soul in his hands, and Chloe goes on to save her classmates from a maniacal Pokémon poacher.
  • Symbolically Broken Object: Her tubas get shattered when she hits the ground, and she won't have enough breath to use them ever again because she's about to die.
  • Walking Spoiler: Somewhat. It's already well known by readers that she dies but what's more important is how she died and when.

    The Cat
A talking white cat who has been part of many adventures on the Train. She is shown in Le Chat Chalet Car and is revealed to have a history with Simon. Her real name is Samantha.
  • Accomplice by Inaction: She had all the time to go back for Simon and apologize and was just one car away when the Ghom came. She never came back and indirectly made Simon to a sociopath.
  • Accidental Truth: While trying to justify herself, The Cat calls out Amelia for not being any better than her, as a coward who did nothing to stop The Apex despite having the power to do it. While Amelia counters with At Least I Admit It, the Memory Lane chapter of Voyage of Wisteria reveals The Cat was completely right; as not only does Amelia try to blame Guide Grace for what the living one did months ago, but eventually reveals that she was using The Apex as scapegoats to come across as the lesser of two evils.
  • Adaptational Karma: In the original Book 3, The Cat never gets any comeuppance for being technically responsible for Simon's Null-hating ways and for nearly having Simon trap Grace in her memories because she gave him the memory reading nanites. In this story, the Red Lotus group tricks her into making an Engineered Public Confession, revealing her past with Simon and how she's responsible for what he became. After that, it's safe to say quite a lot of Denizens want her head.
  • The Atoner: In Voyage of Wisteria, she's donating all of her collection in the hopes it would help future passengers survive the Train after learning that Simon is dead.
  • Break the Haughty: The Engineered Public Confession by the Red Lotus Quarto and all the questions they gave her breaks her in the end, revealing that she is nothing more than a coward who would save her own skin instead of that of the passenger she formed a bond with and her cowardice has created a cult in its wake with nothing she can do now be of any good use.
  • Bystander Syndrome: She left Simon alone for eight years and never went back to him. This lead to him becoming the co-leader of the Apex. When word gets out, not a lot of denziens are going to forigve her for creating this thorn in their side.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Partially. The Cat leaving behind Simon right years ago (without any explanation to his number when she knew the entire time) is what caused him to grow into a Null-hating person, Grace just helped with the rest.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Is Simon's for how she abandoned him when they were chased by a Ghom years ago.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's hinted that she took Simon in because she was jealous about why other cats got to feel happiness and love with passengers.
  • Dirty Coward: She went and saved her own skin instead of going back to see if Simon was all right. She claimed that she had no idea that he wasn't with her until after she got to the next car but the fact that she never returned for him in the past eight years brands her as a complete and utter coward. Atticus tears this apart that her actions alone could've caused him or Tulip to die in the Ball Pit Car by how the Steward destroyed the entire place and even she reflects that she hid while Atticus valiantly tried to save his friend.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Still cares for Simon in her own way as she's horrified to learn that Chloe's going to meet him in the Fog Car. But then again, if she loved him she should've explained what his number meant...
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • Cowardice; she would rather save her own skin than go back for someone else. She tried to save herself from Amelia's wrath by trapping Tulip in a tape of her memories and lead Amelia to One-One in the first book. And in the past, she abandoned Simon to be Ghom food and never came back for him nor actually made an effort to apologize for eight years even though she was just one car away from him.
    • Selfishness: She never told Simon about his number as she wanted to keep him for her own. Not to mention that she would save herself then go back to the boy who needed her most.
  • Insistent Terminology: It's THE Cat to everyone, only Frank and Simon can call her "Samantha".
  • Irony: As Grace points out, The Cat is a hoarder and will do all she can to get what she wants. Except when it came to Simon, apparently.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: She abandoned Simon eight years ago, and spent those years living in peace while the boy grew into a leader of the Apex, killing and injuring numerous denizens and passengers without a single sliver of remorse or desire to go back to see him and apologize. The Red Lotus Quatro trick her into making an Engineered Public Confession, revealing her role in Simon's corruption. At the very least, she's going to lose a lot of customers for her actions.
  • Kick the Dog: When Grace appears at her chalet alone, she can't help but fire some remarks on how the former Apex leader was a selfish brat who could never admit she was wrong. Keep in mind this is coming after Chloe, Tuba and Simon died, Hazel her little sister figure leaves with Amelia, and Grace disbanded the Apex after revealing how she fucked up so much.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Simon calls The Cat by her real name when he enters the Le Chat Chalet Car. He wouldn't have done that until they arrived at the Canyon of Winged Golden Snakes Car.
  • Ms. Exposition: She explains to Grace and Simon who the Red Lotus Trio when they visit her chalet.
  • Never My Fault: Blames Amelia for becoming the Conductor as the reason why the Apex was made in the first place. Amelia counters that 1) she didn't want a cult made after her in the first place 2) this is also ignoring how The Cat herself didn't go back for Simon when she had all the time in the world and 3) Amelia admits that she's trying to make mistakes whereas the Cat has done nothing but sit back and watch the Apex go on a rampage. She continues this when Grace arrives at the car, blaming Grace for corrupting Simon to the point that he wanted to wheel all Nulls (which she's not wrong about).
  • Non-Action Guy: She discusses this trope with Lexi in Voyage of Wisteria; she's not built to be a superhero to save someone from a burning fire and she hates that about herself, because she couldn't have saved Simon from the Ghom. All she can do now is just donate her collection for future passengers.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently she had an adventure with two princes involving 'an emblem of blood' and 'a world without lies'. Code Geass fans might guess this means she met Charles and Victor Zi Britannia, and that The Cat might have helped lead them down the path they did in canon. The Cat may want to avoid anyone from that setting if that ever gets out...
  • Small Role, Big Impact:
    • For Chloe's side of the story, anyway. She made Randall form a donut holer business back in Book 1. Without this, Chloe wouldn't have found her signature weapon to fight off the Apex since Randall gifted her a free donut holer.
    • The fact she abandoned Simon when he needed her most — and never returned to him nor told him what his number meant — was what would cause Simon to become the Null-hating person he is today and the near decade of torment, death and trauma on the Train.
  • The Unapologetic: If she just went back to Simon and apologized, we'd have one less sociopath on the Train. She's later shown to regret this mistake.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: If she came back for Simon after the Ghom incident, there's no way that he would've come to view denizens as weaker or insignificant nor fall for Grace's "Oh I totally know how the Train works" boast. Now she has to pay the price for many lives ruined on the Train due to Simon becoming synonymous with the Apex. Moreover, she never told Simon the purpose of the numbers, meaning that he immediately clung onto Grace's lie and never considered the possibility of going home, making her even more of a villain since it's far too late to change his mind.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Is not seen at all in Voyage of Wisteria so far until it's revealed near the end of Act 2 that she's donating her collection to the Museum Car.

    Frank
A bear that is in a relationship with The Cat. He's seen in Le Chat Chalet Car.
  • Beary Friendly: Barring a moment when he wants to attack Simon for choking the Cat, he's pretty mellow.
  • Moment Killer: Arrives having made chicken-fried steak for everyone just after everyone has learned about what happened to Sean and Simon explaining how angry he is on The Cat for abandoning her.
  • Morality Pet: He's pretty much the only denizen on the Train that The Cat is fond of and whom cares for her.
  • Nice Guy: Willing to cook food for everyone without anyone bringing it up. This even includes the like of Amelia, the former Conductor who nearly killed his flame.
  • Phrase Catcher: "Not now, Frank!" whenever he interrupts a dark mood.
  • Real Men Can Cook: He's really good at cooking as he comes and feeds everyone who enters the Chalet.
  • Running Gag: Every time someone enters Le Chat Chalet Car, he's always interrupting very serious talks by telling The Cat he's made food.
  • Supreme Chef: His cooking is so good that even Simon can't help but compliment them (not that he ever would).

    Randall
A watery blob that makes his home in The Beach Car. He's the one who gave Chloe her trusty donut holer — a pipe that you can punch things in to transform them into "donuts" — and is acting as a water source in Le Chat Chalet Car.
  • The Cameo: Amelia is talking to him about his donut holer business in the Voyage of Wisteria prologue and has a donut holer stand in the Canals of Fondue Car.
  • Mellow Fellow: Really calm and smiling even as arguments happen.
  • Nice Guy: Nothing but nicities and doesn't feel bad when Chloe's no longer wearing the beach dress he gave her, just that she gave it a go.
  • The Red Stapler: In-universe; it's implied he got a lot of popularity and sales of donut holers after denizens learned that he was the one who gifted one to Chloe. He has his own booth in the "Canals of Fondue" car during the Red Lotus Victory Festival. By The Grand Cineplex Car all donut holers have been sold out with Hazel having to improvise where she got her copper pipe from.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: Even he senses the mood between the Cat and Grace to be tense, so he stays quiet.
  • Small Role, Big Impact:
    • Him gifting a donut holer as a bonus to Atticus, granting Chloe her signature weapon.
    • In the grand scheme of things, he's the one who helped Tulip end the Apex by giving her an Oblivious Guilt Slinging that made her go back to One-One from the Cat and also gifted her a donut holer to fight off Amelia.

    Larkspur
A living statue who carries a bouquet of lilies in her hand that Chloe meets in the Cyan Desert Car. It's revealed that she was once a denizen partner to a boy named Gladion. For tropes about that journey, go here.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Voyage of Wisteria reveals that Gladion's story on fighting the Apex was removed from the Train itself so whether or not she knows about that is up in the air.
  • The Bus Came Back: She appears in Act 3 of Voyage of Wisteria talking to Ignis about overhearing Mad Ben and Dahlia's plans.
  • Floral Theme Naming: She's named after the larkspur flower.
  • Flower Motif:
    • Lilies. She wears a veil of orange lilies over her head and she carries a bouquet of black ones. This is because she was Gladion's denizen partner during his tenure as he was associated with orange lilies and his own name is based on the Gladiolus, the sword lily.
    • Larkspurs represent attachment and love; she still keeps Gladion close to her heart even after he left.
  • Hero of Another Story: She traveled with Gladion when he was on the Train and confronted the Apex as revealed in the prequel Knight of the Orange Lily.
  • Living Statue: She's an alabaster statue that can move and talk.
  • The Storyteller: Appears in the Cyan Desert Car to tell tales of her adventures with Gladion as a way to remember him.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: She notes to Chloe that she almost feels sorry for Grace for when the cult leader has to to tell the Apex the truth about the train. She has no such words for Simon though.
  • Tender Tears: Starts to cry when she hears about Gladion.
  • Verbal Tic: Has a tendency...to space out...her words. She lampshades this in her email to Chloe.

    The Organ Man
A demonic monster that overthrew Tokkentaker as the master of the Dead Carnival Car (aka CarnEvil).
  • Awesome, but Impractical: His long talons for hands. They're good for looking scary and basic attacks, but he also has trouble gripping things in the heat of a fight.
  • Boring Insult: Frequently insults Chloe regarding her apparent lack of creativity. This bites him when Chloe gets inspired to summon a demon of her own that all but totals his zeppelin.
  • By the Hair: Tries to finish Chloe off by pulling on her hair, but Chloe uses Lexi's paper bracelet and has him command the papers to form a knife to slice it off, saving her.
  • Dark Is Evil
  • Dirty Coward: He doesn't fight Chloe head on until after she destroys his zeppelin and having forced Amelia and Lexi to fight her. He even lampshades how unfair this is.
  • Filler Villain: Basically there to kill time between the traumatic Cyan Desert Car and the inevitable Silent Hill confrontation. That said, he does give Chloe a reason for her Important Haircut.
  • Genuine Human Hide: Wears a bow tie make of Tokkentaker's skull and hands, and his top hat is stitched up with faces.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: An in-universe surprise for Chloe, as he doesn't resemble the final boss of the arcade shooter in the slightest.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Has a human appearance but is a dark and sadistic figure who really wants to see Chloe scream.
  • Magic Music: Uses a portable organ to force Amelia and Lexi to attack Chloe. Chloe destroys it through the power of Amadusias.
  • Original Character: A contribution of one of the co-writers.
  • Skeletons In The Closet: Again his bowtie is made out of a skull and hands.
  • Small Role, Big Impact:
    • He appears in one chapter but his musical contraptions are what Henry and Walter use to trap the Apex.
    • His fight with Chloe ends up giving her an Important Haircut, which helps bring about a new change in Chloe's life and has her determine to become a better person...and also put in a Prophecy Twist since Henry and Walter's Lady Destiny no longer has the "flowing red hair" BROKEN Matt declared in his premonition.
  • Squishy Wizard: He's by no means harmless, but after his music box and security barrier are gone, Chloe can take him head-on without any of her special powers.

    The Curry Prince (SPOILERS)

The Curry Prince / Soma Asman Kadar

A mechanical prince who rules over the Curry Car and the one who tastes tests curries made by passengers. However, Romin's description of him makes Chloe nervous for some odd reason...
  • Death by Adaptation: He was alive last he was seen in the manga, ready to head off to India, but he died and would become a denizen. Albeit this is justified since the manga took place at the dawn of the 20th century and Blossoming Trail takes place more than century later.
  • Death by Despair: How Soma died, having entered the Curry Car, cradling Agni's urn in his sleep.
  • Excessive Mourning: He wears black and has been mourning for Agni for more than a hundred years. Chloe assumes that the black is a distant memory of Soma seeing Queen Victoria in that getup as she mourned Prince Albert for forty.
  • Friend to All Children: Children loved him and he handed out curry bread whenever he passed by.
  • The Good King: For all his gloomy and spoiled demeanor, the Curry Car's denizens seem pretty content to be ruled by him.
  • I Know Your True Name: Chloe stating the Curry Prince's name is a huge shock to him and the denizens of the Curry Car because he's ruled for so long that only the elderly actually recall it. Justified in Chloe's case since she's actually read the manga where he's from.
  • In the Hood: Appears in a black hooded cloak to Chloe and Romin and only pulls it down when Chloe reveals his true name.
  • Last Request: As he breaks apart, he only requests that Agni follows him to the afterlife, apologizes for how cold he was to the denizens of the Curry Car and requests Chloe to disperse Agni's ashes.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: The reveal assumes that a reader knows that Soma's butler Agni had been killed and Soma has decided to leave for India with Agni's ashes in an urn.
  • Mythology Gag: The fact that he remembered something when tasting Romin's chocolate curry. In the manga, Sebastian made a curry using dark chocolate as the special ingredient.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Is usually called "The Curry Prince" or "The Clockwork Prince". Justified in that only a few of the elderly denizens in the car actually remember his true identity until Chloe announces it.
  • Reincarnation: The Curry Prince is Soma reincarnated as a denizen.
  • The Reveal: The Curry Prince is a reincarnated Soma Kadar who got on the Train more than a century ago.
  • Spear Counterpart: Is one to Amelia as someone who mourns the loss of a loved one and wears a dark black cloak. The only difference is that he didn't try ruining others lives by recreating his life with Agni.
  • Together in Death: The Curry Prince ultimately lets go of his life after being reunited with Agni's ghost, and Chloe disperses their ashes to the wind.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Curry, of course.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The urn that has Agni's ashes. Even when reincarnated, Soma still keeps it safe.
  • Universally Beloved Leader: The denizens of the Curry Car love him and even hold a funeral party in his honor when he passes.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: He actually was a rather nice, if melancholic, prince beloved by his subjects. Until a denizen with butterfly wings triggered reminiscences of his former life...
  • Walking Spoiler: A big one for those who have read Black Butler.

Introduced in "Voyage of Wisteria"

    Konifer
A leaf denizen from the Deep Jungle Car who starts stating out some inaccurate facts about Chloe of the Vermillion...including the fact that she's still on the train.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He doesn't mean to state wrong information about Chloe; just that his car only gets information second-hand and doesn't have access to the Infinet.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: He is completely unaware about how the events with Chloe went down because he doesn't have the Infinet and his "source" is a failed auditionee from the Blossoming Trail movie.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is based on the term "Conifer", which are a type of evergreen trees.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: The false Chloe arc wouldn't have been brought up if he didn't start spouting out inaccurate information within earshot of Lexi.
  • Xtremely Kool Letterz: His name is spelled "K"onifer.

    Commi
A hand puppet who is the instructor of the Comm-Switch Car.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Commi is only given "they" pronouns.
  • Meaningful Name: Commi runs a car that has passengers and denizens to better communicate with one another.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: It's through their car that the truth about Warbler is revealed to Hazel and thus changing things when the Hazbin Car arrives.

     The Hazbin Hotel
The staff of the main hotel in the Hazbin Car, who are currently in charge of dealing with the remaining Apex and Paul London of White Gestalt. This includes: Charlie Magne, Vaggie, Angel Dust, Husk, Nifty, and Alastor.
  • Anti-Role Model: Angel Dust laughs off Hop asking him for advice since he is the worst role model in existence. He still provides the kid some much-needed insight about addictions.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Alastor beats Mad Ben without lifting a finger, simply screwing with his Omnitrix dial so he can't transform into anything threatening.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Alastor remarks that the fake Unsub murder couldn't have been done by the Apex, since it was too neat and organized.
  • The Dreaded: Everyone takes the Radio Demon seriously.
  • The Ghost: Alastor was repeatedly mentioned in both Blossoming Trail and Knight of The Orange Lily.
  • Nice Girl: Charlie, who will take the Apex in to rehabilitate them despite everything they've done.
  • Out of Focus: Nifty never gets any speaking lines or focus. Husk also doesn't have that much to go with, although he has a few snarky lines.
  • Sacred Hospitality: As long as you agree to his terms under his roof, Alastor will be glad to protect you from anyone trying to hurt you.

    Wallace and Gromit
A clay inventor and his dog.
  • Beneath Suspicion: Their goofy nature and old-fashioned style means that Ben, Dahlia, and Vox don't suspect him of smuggling Megatron's device into the Signal Car.
  • Doing It for the Art: In-universe; Wallace doesn't make inventions for awards, but because it's a passion of his.
  • Nice Guy: Wallace to a T. He's willing to give advice to Paul about what it means to achieve victory.
  • Silent Snarker: Gromit never speaks but his actions shows a snarky personality.

    Romsca
A feisty ferret pirate that serves under Captain Claw in the Pirate Car.
  • Badass in Distress: She can hold her own pretty well, but still needs Goh and Lexi to save her.
  • Berserk Button: The Demon of the Depths sets her off, and seems to cause her own Bloodwrath moment. It's later revealed because, when she was human, she was killed by it.
  • I Owe You My Life: After Goh saves her from being eaten by the demon of the depths, she swears a 'pirate vow' that she'll repay the favor one day, whic she does when Act 3 begins.
  • Minor Major Character: She's introduced as a pirate that gives Goh a vow that she'll repay. She becomes an important character in Act 3, especially after it's revealed that she was a human.
  • Reincarnation: She's the reincarnation of Ariana, Oleana's sister.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: She wears a red scarf around her neck. It turns out that it used to be Arianna's before her death and reincarnation. She asks Goh to return it with him when he goes back home.
  • Talk Like a Pirate: Her accent only drops during an emotional moment.
