I don't enjoy a victory. I enjoy everything that leads up to it.
JP artwork
A ruthless mercenary active in the Desert Kingdom. With his inhuman strength and toughness, he was feared even among his fellow mercenaries. He eventually decided to throw away his mercenary life after being saved from the brink of death by Laila.
Rarity: 2-star
Species: Human
Age: 41
Height and weight: 205cm/142kg
Element: Earth
Role: Warrior
Exclusive Weapon: Vulcan
Voiced by: Taiten Kusunoki (Japanese), Jamieson Price (English)
Illustrator: Hanul Lee (GL/KR)

  • Badass and Child Duo: Forms one with Laila.
  • Badass Normal: Marvin doesn't have magical powers, high technology, summoned minions, or special training. Just a lifetime of training and experience in combat. That's enough to make him a near unstoppable force on the battlefield.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: He dedicated his life to protecting and raising Laila after she saved him from near-death in the desert.
  • Blood Knight: He thrives in battle. One of his win quotes is that he doesn't consider victory nearly as enjoyable as the struggle leading up to it.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Seemingly ends up in this situation as seen in the ending cutscene of World 15, at the hands of the Invaders' 1st Corps Commander.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He's ruthless in battle, but has a soft spot for children and considers compassionate decisions to show true strength.
  • The Big Guy: He's a brutal wall of muscle and battles with his fists.
  • Charged Attack: Can charge up his punches for extra damage.
  • The Chosen One: One of the thirteen Champions.
  • Determinator: When Laila is at risk, Marvin will charge through anything in his way to save her.
  • The Dreaded: In World 16, he's the most feared of the Bewildered Champions. According to KAI, the only way for the Knight to have an even chance of beating him is by outnumbering him at least 10-to-1 with androids.
  • Face of a Thug: Marvin's brutish and intimidating appearance hides a man with much more noble qualities underneath.
  • Gentle Giant: Marvin is very violent in battle and with enemies, but he's a kind man to any friends outside of it.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Marvin's fighting style is basic brawling picked up from his years as a mercenary. It doesn't have grace or special abilities, but with his strength and durability, it doesn't need them.
  • Ground Punch: His strongest attacks have him jump up and punch the ground hard enough to create an explosion around him.
  • I Owe You My Life: Laila saved him from certain death in the desert and healed his wounds out of pure kindness. Marvin dedicated himself to helping her after that.
  • Leitmotif: Marvin's Theme.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Not only is he built like a linebacker and then some, he can keep up with a High-Speed Battle on foot. In normal combat, this manifests as his chain skill: a rather sudden Death from Above strike.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: He's a towering behemoth of a man shown to be to be the physically strongest out of a cast that includes martial arts masters, legendary heroes, werebeasts, combat androids, demons, and actual deities.
  • Parental Substitute: He acts as a father figure for Laila.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: He has zero pity for evil opponents and will do whatever it takes to get what he needs from them.
  • Power Fist: His exclusive weapons are a pair of GIGANTIC fists, even for Marvin, named Vulcan.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Not above beating information out of his opponents, often either finishing them off in the process or soon after.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Killed in battle during the Time Skip to world 10.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Marvin's ATK stat increases the less HP he has, up to 50% at low HP. This can lead to some surprise burst kills in arena if you get a well-timed stun off.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Marvin's no genius, but he's far more crafty and insightful than his brutish looks imply.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: At most, he wears a leather jacket or a couple of straps across his chest.

    Laila
A young girl who saved Marvin from the brink of death. She sells pickled cacti for a living.

    Sandy
A giant snake-like humanoid that grows fond of Marvin and the Knight.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's half snake, half woman.
  • Token Heroic Orc: Unlike most monsters of her type, she isn't hostile to the heroes and happily helps them when she's able.
