Ghosts

The main enemies in the game that will attempt to kill you. They are hostile and bloodthirsty spirits, eager to find and kill "the one".

    General

  • Achilles' Heel: The dark curse that's placed upon the crew is vulnerable to electricity and electric shocks will ward off the spirits. This weakness is especially demonstrated in the Director's Cut of Five Shows at Wario's, where many of the rooms have you use electric shocks against the ghosts.
  • Adaptational Wimp: As stated by Word of God, the cast here in the FNAW universe are all just regular people and not the same as their canon selves.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: It's very difficult to not feel sorry for the spirits as you learn about their stories and why they came to be what they are, and this really comes into play in the third game when the souls are finally set free. Hell, even Bowser, the most "evil" one here evokes this trope when you find out why he really burned down Wario Ware.
  • Ax-Crazy: Each of them fall under this category, as they are malicious and willing to brutally kill anyone they come across.
  • Berserk Button:
    • According to the phone guy in FNAW 3, ghosts really hate eye contact.
    • As seen below in the Disproportionate Retribution, they don't take kindly to anyone who reminds them of their killer.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: Most of the spirits will have these..
  • Blank White Eyes: ..and if they don't have the aforementioned black eyes, then expect them to have blank, empty white eyes. Although in the case of Wario, his pupil is just white and really hard to see.
  • Blinded by the Light: A few rooms in FNAW 3 have you defend against ghosts by shining the light on them.
  • Can't Move While Being Watched: Downplayed. Watching the ghosts on the camera doesn't per se stop them, but doing it frequently can slow down their movement and even make them go back. And in some cases, it is possible to go for most of (sometimes, all of) the night without even encountering a ghost.
  • Cosmic Retcon: James ends up causing a huge reset in time by preventing Wario from finding the ritual book in the first place and essentially restarting the entire story of FNAW, meaning everyone that would've become psycho killer ghosts don't and just go about their lives, with the exception of Bowser who unfortunately would still be long dead before Wario was turned into a murderous ghost.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Expect to be on the receiving end of this if any of the cast ends up getting their hands on you. Word of God states that Richard had horrifying dreams where the spirits would tear out his eyes.
  • Darkness Equals Death: Seems to be a reoccurring theme in all the games.
    • In the first game, Wario will come to kill you if you run out of power.
    • In the second game, if the generator runs out out, the lights will shut off and should any spirit entire the office while it's dark, you will either die from trying to charge the generator up again or eventually get killed in the backroom. Also in this game, it's stated that ghosts get more active in the darkness.
    • In the third game, various rooms have you hide in a dark room where you have to flash the light to ward off any spirit that enters, or else you'll die.
    • In FNAW origins, the lights in the building will be shut off permanently starting on Night 4, leaving you to fend for yourself in the darkness (also in Night 3, Luigi will slowly move towards you only when the lights are off).
  • Deadly Lunge: All of the spirits at some point or another have a jumpscare where they kill the player by lunging at them.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Happen to look suspiciously familiar to Bruno Gate, or remind them of him in any way? Time to die then.
  • Expy: As expected of a FNAF fangame, many of the characters are based off of that of certain FNAF characters.
    • Wario is based on Freddy, as they are both the leaders of their respective group, and additionally Wario will appear and kill you in a similar to Freddy should you let the power go out.
    • Waluigi in the first game seems to be this for Bonnie in FNAF 1 and 2, as he attacks from the left side of the office in the first game and he's purple.
    • Both Luigi and Peach in FNAW 1 are this for Chica in FNAF 1 and 2 as they will attack from the right side in the first game. They also serve as this for the Phone Guy as in 2 and 3 respectfully, they act as the phone guy while possessing Richard.
    • Mario seems to act in a similar manner to Golden Freddy in that pulling the monitor up will make him go away.
    • Toad in the second game is this for Foxy, essentially having the exact same mechanics as Foxy in FNAF 1.
    • Every ghost in the second game can also be considered one to Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Toy Bonnie in the second FNAF game as they basically replicate the animatronics mechanics, appearing right in the office in a similar manner as them.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason the ghosts attempt to kill and murder various people is because they've been corrupted by Emma and fuelled with neverending hatred and a desire for vengeance, and they all see the protagonist as the person who killed them.
  • Ghastly Ghost: Pretty much expected of them as they are horrifying hostile spirits that will haunt the player.
  • It Can Think: One of the most terrifying things about the cast here is that they aren't just mindless monsters lashing out at everyone they see, but they're very intelligent spirits capable of manipulating events so that they always have a person they can kill. For example, Wario tricked Edward Coleman into taking a job and volunteering to watch over a mansion, where he and the other spirits then proceeded to trap him inside of and stalk him over the course of multiple days.
  • Never Found the Body: With the exception of Bowser, Yoshi, and Ashley, the bodies of the spirits were never found.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: The FNAW ghosts work much differently than ghosts typically do in most other medias. As seen in Origins, spirits not inhabiting a body and just in soul mode can still interact with and murder the living. A spirit inhabiting a body is still capable of teleporting and disappearing, as the entire cast pretty much does this and only appears in the night. Also dead/living people possessed or corrupted by spirits are capable of using ghostlike abilities too.
  • Sadist: Given the dialogue both Luigi and Peach give to the player when they're possessing Richard, it's safe to say that the spirits seem to genuinely enjoy tormenting people before they kill them.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The enemies occasionally will seemingly disappear off the map, nowhere to be seen on the cameras. This happens if they're "pushed back" when they're at their starting places. It makes sense as these aren't people/robots, but actual supernatural ghosts.
  • Vengeful Ghost: The main purpose for all of their killing is to get revenge on their murderer, and destroy anything that even resembles him, which unfortunately happens to also include security guards.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: The main 5 spirits all apply as they're ultimately just Vengeful Spirits seeking revenge against the one that killed them.
  • Would Not Hurt A Child: Played with. The ghosts don't seem to be interested in attacking and killing children as seen in the Playroom in FNAW 3 where Wario and Yoshi won't enter if the two music boxes are playing, due to believing it's just children in there. However, they have no qualms with possessing them and turning them into murderous souls, as seen with Wario turning Ashley.
  • You Are Already Dead: There's plenty of moments/situations in the series where death is completely inevitable after a certain point:
    • Just like FNAF 1, if your doors/lights get disabled, that means one of the ghosts got in and that you're about to die since unlike FNAF, the ghosts here will jumpscare you whether or not you pull up the monitor. Also in the first game, if you run out of power, Wario will appear on the left door way in similar fashion to Freddy Fazbear, playing the Toreador March song. However unlike Freddy, Wario won't waste any time and he'll immediately jumpscare you when the song ends, meaning running out of power early on in the night is a guaranteed game over.
    • In the second game, if the generator runs out and someone enters the office, there won't be anything you can do to stop them from killing you. Trying to charge the generator obviously will lead to the spirit hearing it and coming to the backroom to kill you, and if you try to just hide in the Backroom, they'll eventually find and kill you anyway.
    • Can happen at least 3 times in the third game:
      • If you hide in the Living Room 3, you have to do your best to mitigate Waluigi and Yoshi's movements while making sure they either enter at the right time to get scared off by the clock or don't enter at all. However if they come in at the wrong moment like when the clock just recently turned to the next hour, then you're dead.
      • In the Bedroom 2 is a room where you have to prevent Wario from reaching your location at all costs, as you have no way to protect yourself if he does. If he reaches your room, that's the end.
      • In the Bathroom, you have to take pills whenever Yoshi and Ashley appear at the doorway. If you end up running out of pills however, especially in the harder difficulty, tough luck. Although this has been remedied in the update where you're now able to refill the cabinet whenever you're getting low on pills.

    Wario
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/accuratefnaw1wario_7.png

A greedy businesses man that ended up selling the souls of himself and his friends in exchange for riches. After getting killed, he ended up becoming an evil spirit obsessed with getting his revenge

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Wario ends up absorbing some of Entity01's dark matter in the fight with him, getting a huge boost of soul power.
  • Animate Dead: Wario does this to both Bowser and Toad's dead bodies, turning their corpses into murderous killing machines. Bowser has no loyalty to him, however.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: Wario was very clearly obsessed with getting rich and making a fortune when he discovered the ritual book and contemplated casted the ritual on himself and his friends, but he convinces himself that he was actually doing this for selfless reasons.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In Endgame Quest, Wario ends up going to the factory and duels Entity01, ultimately defeating him
  • Blood from the Mouth: Wario can be seen with blood coming from his mouth in the second game when he's in the office and in the Game Over screen.
  • Book Ends: He is the first and last protagonist chronologically.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Wario corrupts both Yoshi and Ashley prior to the third game, turning them into murderous spirits.
  • Deal with the Devil: The devil in question being Emma. Wario ends up using a ritual from a spell book and selling his and his coworkers souls in exchange for riches.
  • Demonic Head Shake: Wario will do this on certain cameras in The Factory in Five Shows at Wario's.
  • Demonic Possession: Wario uses dark magic to bring the bodies of Toad and Bowser to life, as well as corrupt Yoshi and Ashley, making them evil.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: It's his deal with Emma that caused the events of the series and inflicted endless suffering on everyone, including himself. Doubly so when he brings back Bowser, who later incinerates his face.
  • Evil Laugh: Wario will let one out in the second game if you click on the Wario poster.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Wario evokes this trope if he's chosen to complete The Final Show and face Emma.
  • Facial Horror: Before the third game takes place, Wario ends up getting his face burnt off right down to the bone by Bowser.
  • Greed: Much like his original counterpart, Wario is a greedy man that cares only about money. When his fast food factory doesn't bring in as much money as he wanted, he resorts to using a ritual from a witch's book to exchange his and his coworkers' souls for riches.
  • The Heavy: As the face of the franchise and the leader of most of the threats you deal with, he is most definitely this.
  • Hell Is That Noise: In Night 3 of the third game, if you hide in the Bedroom 2, you'll have to scare off Wario on the camera system by delivering static sounds in whatever room he's in.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Wario's jumpscare in the first two games consist of him lunging at the night guard, seemingly attempting to take a bite out of them. Also in the game over screen in the second game, Wario can be seen with blood in his mouth.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food: His hamburger recipe is implied to be this as Word of God states that it had attracted all kinds of people/creatures to his diner in the past. And even much later, the hamburger recipe is still so good that Bruno was gonna steal and sell it.
  • Invisibility: In Origins, player Wario is able to turn invisible by grabbing a mushroom from Storage and eating it
  • The Leader: Wario seems to be this for the crew as he's the one that plans out their next course of action.
  • Mighty Glacier: In the Final Show of Five Shows at Wario's, Wario moves slower than the other characters but to make up for it, he has greater invincibility frames than the others.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: For some reason, Wario has two sets of teeth.
  • My Future Self and Me: Because of the original cursed souls being sent back in time, past human Wario in FNAW Origins is forced to defend himself from his haunted ghost self as well as the ghastly versions of his friends.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Wario as a ghost is just about always giving off an evil grin.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Wario's demonic powers seem to give off a purple-like color as seen in Origins where he shoots out a giant purple orb of dark energy to corrupt Ashley and Yoshi, and reanimate Bowser and Toad's dead bodies. His eyes in the 3rd game also glow purple as a sign of his power getting stronger.
  • Rogue Protagonist: A bit different than usual examples, as he started off as an enemy trying to kill you. However in a game that chronologically takes place before the first three games, past Wario is the protagonist.
  • Shock and Awe: Fights the ultimate big bad by shocking him with electricity.
  • Signature Sound Effect: In the first game, the sounds of creaking will be heard whenever Wario is in the Office Entry, one step away from being at your door.
  • Television Portal: Wario will attack you through the television in the 4th game if he invades the channels.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He reappears in the Final Show in Five Shows at Wario's, seemingly to help Bruno complete it. However in the Director's Cut DLC, he once again is trying to kill Bruno.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Wario's decision to not only keep his diner open for multiple days, but also to continue working night shift alone despite being aware that murderous ghosts are haunting the palace, is just unbelievably stupid. Even Winslow starts wondering if Wario was dropped on his head as a baby.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: By casting the ritual on himself and his friends, Wario ended up releasing Emma into the world where it proceeded to cause the apocalypse in the first timeline.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Has no qualms attacking Rosalina each time she sends him and his friends back in time.

    Waluigi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/waluigiextras.png
"It's a-me, WA HA HEE!"

A close friend of Wario's and his copartner. After getting killed by Bruno Gate, his soul came back as a vengeful ghost.

  • Demonic Head Shake: Does this when he kills the night guard in the first two games, and also during The Factory in certain cameras.
  • Evil Laugh: Waluigi can be heard laughing in the first game when he's in the bathroom.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Waluigi evokes this trope if he's chosen to complete The Final Show and face Emma.
  • Greed: Waluigi is stated to be a greedy man, although nowhere close to the extent that Wario is.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Waluigi's jumpscare in The Factory consists of him seemingly devouring Bruno.
  • Lean and Mean: Waluigi is much lankier and bigger than his canonical version, and he's also one of the many ghosts trying to kill you.
  • Logical Weakness: His inability to crouch if you play as him in Final Show makes sense as his very lanky legs would make doing so almost impossible.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: Hiding in Entrance 2 in The Factory gives you the ability to put Waluigi to sleep with a music box.
  • No Sneak Attacks: In Origins, Waluigi will randomly appear in the room you're in, however he's always gonna be standing in front of you and he won't be a threat unless you shine the flashlight at him, where you then have a few seconds to leave before he kills you.
  • Off with His Head!: In the game over screen of the first game, Waluigi can be seen holding Richard's head.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Unlike his partner, Wario, Waluigi face is usually stuck in a scowl, with his jumpscare in the first two games being the only time he shows a smile.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Waluigi is a deadly spirit that wears a purple shirt.
  • Signature Sound Effect: Rumbling noises will play out everytime Waluigi enters the Machinery in the first game.
  • Television Portal: Waluigi will attack you through the television in the 4th game if you take too long to change the channel when he appears.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Waluigi reappears in the Final Show in Five Shows at Wario's, seemingly to help Bruno complete it. He moves fast and can jump high, but he's unable to crouch. However in the Director's Cut DLC, he once again is an enemy trying to kill Bruno.

    Mario
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/five_nights_at_wario_s_4___mario_full_body_by_epicyoshi21_da80plq_fullview.jpg
"It's a-me, Mario!"

One of the workers at the Fast Food Factory that got killed by Bruno Gate, and ended up becoming a hostile ghost.

  • Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are: An inverted case where the villain here, Mario, is the one hiding. In the Corridor room of the Factory in Director's Cut, Mario will move periodically through 4 different rooms before stopping when the lights go off, and the player has to find which room he's in and flash him.
  • Developer's Foresight: From Night 3 onwards in FNAW 2 2.0, you can no longer hide in the Backroom for too long or else Mario will eventually kill you.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Mario evokes this if he's chosen to complete the Final Show and face Emma.
  • Irony: Mario is known in canon for his jumping ability, however in the Final Show, he had the lowest jumping ability among all the playable characters.
  • Invisible Anatomy: Mario's actual face is completely invisible, leaving only his eyes and mustache to be visible. The reason for this is because Bruno killed him by decapitating his head.
  • Leitmotif: Whenever he shows up, a music box cover of the Super Mario Bros theme plays. Also when you're hiding in the Cellar in Five Shows at Wario's, intense music will slowly build up when he appears in the office.
  • The Misophonic: As seen when hiding in the Laundry in the third game, Mario really hates the sounds of noises and he won't enter the room if the washing machine is on. Additionally, he won't attack you in the second game if he's in the office and you charge the generator. However this gets subverted in The Factory in Five Shows at Wario's, where charging up the power when you're hiding in the Machinary attracts him to your location.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: In FNAW 4, turning the radio on will deter him when he appears.
  • Off with His Head!: He died from Bruno slicing his head off.
  • One-Hit Kill: If the player enters the Basement in FNAW Origins while Mario is active, he instantly kills them.
  • Power Floats: He does this in the Factory of Five Shows at Wario's when he's in the Office Entry camera.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: Word of God reveals that Mario and Peach are married.
  • Television Portal: A reoccurring theme throughout all the games is Mario's ability to spawn in and come out of various different types of technology to attack the player.
    • In the first game, he moves in multiple phases through the computer monitor on the desk.
    • In the third game, if you hide in the Playroom, Mario will make his way through the television and attack you.
    • In Origins, Mario will attack you through the camera monitor.
    • In FNAW 4, Mario will slowly make his way through multiple phases in the TV if you don't ward him off by flipping to the radio.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Mario shows up in the Final Show of The Theater, seemingly to help Bruno complete it. His character moves faster than Bruno and has a mid-air jump, but he has less invincibility frames and the lowest jump of all characters. In the Director's Cut DLC, he goes back to being a hostile spirit attempting to kill Bruno.

    Luigi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fdfdfdfdfdfddffd.png
"Hello there"

The brother of Mario and one of the workers in Wario's Fast Food Factory. He eventually ended up getting killed by Bruno Gate and came back as a hostile ghost.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Luigi gives off the demeanor of a shy and nervous ghost as implied in the third game, however his actions in FNAW 2, plus his general malice and sadism, prove that he's anything but shy and nervous
  • Demonic Possession: Luigi takes over Richard McRoy's body in the second game.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Luigi evokes this if he's chosen to complete the Final Show and face Emma.
  • Faux Affably Evil: In the second game, Luigi acts friendly at first as he speaks to the night guard, giving him advice and reassuring him that everything will be fine. However as the week progresses, Luigi starts acting a lot weirder, until eventually revealing his true crazy personality in Night 6.
  • Foreshadowing: In FNAW 2, he drops an eerie hint that someone is in the office, watching you. Take a wild guess which ghost he's referring to..
  • Hanging Around: How Wario Man killed him.
  • Power Floats: Luigi can sometimes be seen floating in the first and third games, as well as The Factory in Five Shows at Wario's, as a reference to how he died. In the Final Show, he's also pretty floaty when he jumps.
  • Signature Sound Effect: Every time Luigi spawns on the map in the first game, creaking sounds, as if doors are being slowly pushed open, will play.
  • Spot the Impostor: Luigi's mechanics in Week 2 of FNAW 4 has him occasionally spawn on a TV channel with two other fake Luigi's, and the player has to figure out which is the real him and click on him.
  • Television Portal: Luigi will attack the player through the television in the 4th game if they fail to switch the channel when he appears.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He appears in the Final Show in Five Shows at Wario's, seemingly to help Bruno complete it. He jumps slightly higher than Bruno and is a bit floaty in the air. In the Director's Cut DLC, he's once again and enemy trying to kill Bruno.
  • What the Fu Are You Doing?: Luigi's jumpscare in the first game consists of him running at the player, wildly flailing his arms
  • You Can't Fight Fate: As revealed by Word of God, Luigi (from the original timeline) knew what Wario did and he believed that their deaths would prevent the curse from coming true, causing him to just request for Bruno to hang him. Unfortunately this had the opposite effect.

    Peach
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/accuratefnaw1peach.png

A woman who that worked at Wario's Fast Food Factory, helping out from time to time. She was killed by Bruno Gate and came back as a hostile ghost.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Peach mysteriously vanishes after the first cutscene of Endgame Quest, and she's not seen again when Wario, Waluigi, Mario, and Luigi meet up once again after Entity 01's defeat. Though, considering she was last seen with her VIRUS counterpart, this could have some horrifying implications...
  • Damsel in Distress: It's heavily implied by the phone guy and due to how distressed she looks throughout the camera systems that Peach was the last one to enter the factory. searching for everyone, as in Entrance 2 it looks like she's calling out to someone (possibly Mario and/or Luigi). And this also means that she was the last one to get attacked and killed by Bruno Gate.
  • Demonic Possession: Peach takes Luigi's spot in the third game and possesses Richard McRoy
  • Evil vs. Evil: Peach evokes this if she's chosen to complete the Final Show and face Emma.
  • Ghostly Gape: Peach's face throughout the series seems to be stuck like this.
  • Hanging Around: Her mechanics in FNAW 4. She will randomly appear on the TV screen hanging from a noose, and the player has to quickly switch the channel. In Week 2 of the game, you'll have to cut her rope.
  • Oh, Crap!: Had this reaction when Entity01 started his invasion and upon seeing her VIRUS counterpart spawn before her.
  • Ominous Walk: Each time Peach spawns on the map or moves to another room, the sounds of her footsteps are audible.
  • Power Floats: This is Peach's ability in the Final Show.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: Word of God reveals that her and Mario are married.
  • Slasher Smile: When she's in the Control Room camera in the first game, or when she's killing the player in the first two games, her Ghostly Gape forms into a smile.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Peach is the only girl among the original 5.
  • Token Evil Teammate: She reappears as a playable character in the Final Show, seemingly to help Bruno complete it. She has a floating ability. In the Director's Cut DLC, she is an enemy ghost attempting to murder Bruno once again.

    Toad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toadpeek.png
"I see you..~"

A deceased corpse that was brought back to life by Wario to be used in his demonic army.

  • Bitch Slap: Essentially how he kills the night guard in FNAW 2, although it later was updated into a Deadly Lunge.
  • Expy: Of Foxy, being a character that stays in one room the player has to regularly keep tabs on, until it leaves the room and books it to you.
  • Good Bad Bugs: As seen in certain playthroughs of FNAW 2, it is possible to hide in the Backroom in the middle of Toad's jumpscare and survive. However, the moment you re-enter the office, the jumpscare will continue until you eventually die.
  • Stealth Expert: If you fail to keep watching the Tool Storage camera, Toad will slowly sneak into your office and eventually kill you.
  • Super-Speed: Upon looking at said Tool Storage camera and seeing that Toad isn't in there anymore, he will suddenly book it and dash to the office, getting there in just a matter of seconds.
  • Things That Go "Bump" in the Night: Toad spends the night hiding in the closet in the Tool Storage, occasionally coming out to kill the night guard
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: After the second game, Toad just seemingly disappears and is never shown again. Although one explanation could be that Toad chose to remain in the closet, still too afraid to leave.

    Bowser
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bowser_2_20.png

A fearsome dragon-like creature that's responsible for originally burning down Wario Ware Inc, although he ended up killing himself in the fire. His deceased corpse was brought back to life by Wario, though he is far from obedient.

  • Ambiguously Evil: It turns out Bowser was a sentient creature created by a science company and that he was ordered to burn down Wario Ware Inc after they accidentally let an Entity lose in the building. With that piece of knowledge, it's questionable if Bowser was really evil or not. Word of God describes him as a real and physical threat, however there's no mention of him ever having attacked or hurt anyone, other than Toad and Wario.
  • Asshole Victim: Initially appears to be this, as he burned down Wario Ware, only to be killed himself by what he started however in the updated story of FNAW, Word of God reveals that Bowser was a lab experiment just following orders.
  • Blood Is the New Black: As expected from his very gruesome and messy death, Bowser is covered in blood.
  • Eaten Alive: Bowser's jumpscare in the second game seemingly consists of him brutally biting into Thomas.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Wario had no control over him whatsoever, as proven by Bowser searing his face off with fire.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: What happened to him as Wario Ware Inc burned down. The debris that stabbed through his body can even be seen as he attacks the night guard!
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Bowser is described as a monstrous dragon-like creature, however he also has a giant spiked shell, making it possible that he's some kind of dragon-turtle hybrid
  • Pyromaniac: Bowser for seemingly no reason (later revealed to be orders from his creators) decided to burn down Wario Ware Inc. Later on, he ends up going wild and shooting out fire at Wario, completely burning off the flesh of his face, until it's just his skull.
  • Self-Disposing Villain: He ended up killing himself in his own fire, getting crushed and stabbed to death by debris, wood, and rock.
  • The Starscream: He very nearly puts a permanent end to Wario's existence, forcing Wario to lift the curse and send him to the next world.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Bowser originally also disappeared after the second game for seemingly no reason. However Word of God reveals that the reason he's gone is because Wario lifted the curse after Bowser burned his face off.

    Yoshi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoshi_4.png
"This blood is tasty. Mind if I have a taste of yours?

An innocent dinosaur that got corrupted by Wario and turned into a demonic, bloodthirsty spirit.

    Ashley
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ashley_extra3.png
"I'm coming for you!~"

An innocent young girl that was corrupted by Wario and turned into a malevolent, violent soul.

Protagonists

All of the main characters that you play as in the series.
    General

  • Badass Normal: Each one of these guys are just regular people existing in a world of all kinds of unnatural creatures, and yet they're capable of holding their own when faced with supernatural and hostile entities.
    • Richard was able to survive working six whole nights at the haunted factory, and then he later would be one of the few people to escape from the Theater in Endgame Quest.
    • James is brought into the future by Christopher Peterson, where he proceeded to duel Emma herself, win, and cause a Cosmic Retcon to prevent Wario from even casting the ritual in the first place.
    • Thomas survives working at Wario Ware Inc, where Wario and the gang tried to kill him for 7 nights. Also based on the fact that he makes an appearance in Five Shows at Wario's as a message in The Exit advising Bruno on what to do, that seems to indicate that he had managed to survive his experience in The Theater and possibly implies he survived The Exit as well.
    • Edward tops both Richard and Thomas, surviving Wario and the gang while being trapped and imprisoned in a mansion for over several days and nights.
    • Wario was able to survive being haunted in his small diner by his own evil ghost self as well as his evil, ghost friends. Later on in Endgame Quest, Wario ultimately is the one that duels the big bad, Entity01, and defeats him!
    • While Winslow ultimately died in the end, it's nonetheless impressive that he lasted 5 days and nights trapped in Wario's diner and attacked by VIRUS, all without eating or drinking anything.
    • Bruno however blows everyone out of the water with his sheer endurance and willpower, being able to survive going through a hellish theater with several shows for him to complete, being trapped in a house where he has to prevent VIRUS from entering at all costs, failing to keep them out in the end and having to take a final stand against them, and then once Emma was through with him, Entity01 made him go through more trials, before subjecting him to mental trauma by reminding him of his fallout with his wife. However despite all of this pain and misery, Bruno's soul was just too resilient to stay down.
  • Cosmic Retcon: Due to James' actions in preventing Wario from ever discovering the ritual book in the first place, that means that Wario never cursed his and his friends' souls and that the ghosts never existed, which had reset the entire story of FNAW. All the characters that originally died are back alive.
  • Plotline Death: With the exception of James, who's Surprisingly Sudden Death turned out to be him getting pulled into the future, all of the protagonists were scripted to die throughout the storyline at some point.
  • Uncertain Doom: (Presumably) With the exception of Richard McRoy, who we briefly play as in Endgame Quest, it's unknown if the other protagonists survived Entity01's invasion and/or made it the end of the story alive.

    Richard McRoy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/extrarichard.png

A human that formerly worked at Wario's Fast Food Factory, before quitting due to paranormal events going on. He ended up getting possessed by both Luigi and Peach, turning evil.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Hearing what's likely Richard's (who technically isn't even a real villain, but just a poor guy dragged into this mess) final words saying he's finally free in the FNAW 3 good ending is definitely a tearjerker moment.
  • And I Must Scream: Richard is one of the people that end up getting imprisoned in the Theater by Entity01 in Endgame Quest, forced to play mini games exactly like Bruno. Luckily, he doesn't spend too much time in there and manages to get out.
  • Bald of Evil: Due to getting possessed and used by both Luigi and Peach, he would qualify as this
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: He ends up having this with Luigi in the 4th game as he attempts to take control of Richard. Unfortunately, Richard ultimately loses and gets possessed as a result.
  • Demonic Possession: Ends up being on the receiving end of this twice. Once by Luigi before the second game, and later by Peach right before the third game.
  • Expy: He is this for two characters:
    • Michael Schmidt, as they're both security guards for the first game in their respective series
    • The crying child, as they both are the protagonist of a game where they suffer horrible nightmares.
  • Got Volunteered: His dad basically has him work as the night guard in the newly reopened Wario Fast Food Factory just to observe the paranormal activity going on.
  • Nice Guy: Richard, before being corrupted by the spirits, was described as a very friendly guy by his friends.
  • Prematurely Bald: Richard is noted to be younger than Thomas by Word of God, yet it seems that he's lost all of his hair and is completely bald.
  • Rogue Protagonist: Due to the Demonic Possession up above, Richard ended up becoming a villain.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Continues working as the night guard for a week, despite knowing that there's vicious ghosts inside seeking to tear his limbs off. Word of God states that Richard needed the money due to financial issues, but this still calls into question if potentially dying in the most gruesome and worst ways possible is really worth the money.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Dawko's voice and accent isn't the kind of voice you would imagine coming from Richard McRoy.
  • Wham Shot: A literal example in the ending of the third game, as he ends up getting shot to death by the police.

    James
An employee of Wario's Fast Food Factory that serves as the phone guy in the first game. He ends up getting transported away when he tries to help the player get out in the first game.
  • Ambiguously Evil: This seemingly goes for James in the original timeline (unlike the new timeline James who is a good guy). Somehow he ended up in Gray City, serving as the phone guy in The Factory when you hide in the Cellar. The omnionous, dark tone makes it clear he's bad, but it's unknown if this is from him being corrupted by Entity01, or if he chose to serve him.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Despite being a normal guy in a world with all kinds of creatures, James ends up duelling Emma, a supernatural curse, in the Cross Game Quest, and actually manages to beat her!
  • Expy: Obviously this for the Phone Guy from Five Nights at Freddy's, except due to how simple the mechanics are in the game and how easy it is to fend off enemies, he mostly talks to you about the lore of the building and what happened to the ghosts.
  • Reset Button: James ends up sending a message to his self in the past, telling him to remove the ritual book from the factory before Wario finds it, which causes a huge reset.
  • Shock and Awe: He fights Emma in the Cross Game Quest by shocking her with electricity.
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: What seemingly happened to him in Night 5 of the first game after he arrived at the factory to help Richard. However Word of God states that James was actually just transported away and brought into this distant future with Christopher.

    Thomas Taylor
An Irish man that worked as a night guard at Wario Ware Incorporated for a week, before leaving due to the paranormal activity going on. Curious about what was really going on, Thomas tried to investigate the ruins of Wario's Fast Food Factory, but he ended up getting transported away by a mysterious force.
  • And I Must Scream: Ends up getting locked in Wario Ware Inc for the weekend and having to defend himself from murderous, violent ghosts. Thankfully someone outside hears his screaming and helps him out.
  • Expy: Of Jeremy Fitzgerald, as they're both night guards of the second game in their respective series.
  • Friendless Background: According to Word of God, Thomas didn't have any close friends or family, which is why working as a night guard was perfect for him
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Basically what Thomas does. He avoids the ghosts in the second game by hiding in the backroom. However there doesn't seem to be anywhere in the back room for him to hide away in, and it should be pretty easy to see the backroom from in the office, meaning Thomas is literally doing this.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Much worse than Richard. While Richard at least had the excuse of needing the money, Thomas continues working at Wario Ware Inc and getting haunted by murderous ghosts for absolutely no reason. In addition to that, after his experiences in the building, Thomas is very curious to uncover what's really going and he ends up investigating the ruins of Wario's Fast Food Factory... the place that was shut down for being haunted. This predictably ends up going wrong.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Originally, Thomas was just written out of the story once the second game was over, however the new story of FNAW actually tells us about what happened with Thomas. Having a huge case of curiosity killed the cat, Thomas went into the cellar of Wario's Fast Food Factory and tampered with the electronics when he noticed some dark force in the factory was affecting them. This caused Thomas to just disappear completely, presumably by Emma, and his fate is unknown at least for now.

    Edward Coleman
An employee of a security company that ended up getting tricked by Wario into watching over an abandoned, haunted mansion.
  • And I Must Scream: Ends up getting trapped in a mansion and forced to live out several nights hiding in different rooms to avoid the ghosts.
  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: This apparently is the case of Edward, since Ashley in the Staircase can't see any part of him but his eyes in the darkness. Even when he covers his eyes with his hands, Ashley doesn't seem to notice that, suggesting his eyes actually stand out in the dark.
  • Drugs Are Good: In Night 2 when hiding in the Bathroom, Edward must fend off the ghosts by taking pills the moment they show up at the door. According to the Phone Guy, something in the pills trick the ghosts into thinking you're dead.
  • Expy: Of the unknown guard in FNAF 3, as they both serve as the night guard in the third game of their respective series, and the setting of both games in particular involve a horror-themed place. Also, prior to Word of God revealing Edward's name, he was completely unknown since his name (at least before the update) was never actually said in the games.
  • Hallucinations: Unfortunately in the Bedroom 2, the affect of those drugs take place and causes Edward to hallucinate a hostile entity along with having to deal with Wario.
  • Kill the Lights: How Edward wards off the ghosts in the Living Room 4.
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: Edward ends up getting ambushed and killed by VIRUS Wario in the Cross Game Quest after Emma manages to bring her power to the real world.

    Winslow
An employee that worked at Wario's Fast Food Diner. He serves as the phone guy in 1988 Mode of FNAW: as well as the player character of 2018 mode.
  • Expy: Can be considered one to the Phone Dude, considering the informal tone he uses with the player character as opposed to the other phone guys that were much more formal.
  • First-Name Basis: Appears to have this relationship with Wario as he casually calls him by his name and even refers to him as "my man".
  • Kill the Lights: He fends off VIRUS' Waluigi form by doing this.
  • Lured into a Trap: Ends up being lured back into Wario's Cafe by VIRUS with the false premise of reopening the cafe. However once he walks in VIRUS completely gets rid of all the exits and proceeds to stalk and hunt Winslow down, eventually killing him.
  • Surveillance Station Slacker: Mentions in the Night 2 phone call that he was goofing around with the camera systems.

    Bruno Gate
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brunogateshot.png
"I am Bruno Gate"
Bruno Gate in the Wario Man suit

The main killer of the five, however he ended up getting murdered himself. Upon reawakening, Bruno feels remorse for the horrible actions he's committed and he wants to apologize for what he did.

  • Ambiguous Ending: It's not really stated what Bruno's fate is at the end of Endgame Quest, although it could be likely that he's truly dead.
  • And I Must Scream: This ends up being his fate in the ending of Five Shows at Wario's, where Emma leaves his soul to rot in the Nothingness. Although he wouldn't be here for long..
  • The Atoner: As he reawakened, he felt an immense guilt for what he did to the crew, and he's determined to make things right.
  • Ax-Crazy: His desire to save his daughter at all costs seemed to have had an affect on his sanity, making him extremely murderous and willing to kill anyone he considers to be in his way. When Wario ends up catching him in the act of stealing the hamburger recipe, rather than flee or just intimidate Wario, Bruno immediately dashes forward and kills him. And when the other workers arrive, Bruno just brutally kills them off as well even though there was no reason to go that far. Thankfully, this trait of his seems to go away after his Heel–Face Turn and his next confrontation with them goes much better.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Decapitating Mario's head and hanging Luigi by the neck can certainly count as this.
  • Deader than Dead: Bruno is at a grave risk of this in the Director's Cut of Five Shows at Wario's. Due to everything he's been through, his soul starts falling apart.
  • Didn't Think This Through: While Bruno couldn't have known Wario and his friends were cursed to come back from death as evil ghosts, Bruno also had no need to kill them. He was disguised in the Wario Man suit, meaning no one has seen what he actually looked like, and the gang seemed too shocked/afraid to stop him.
  • Easter Egg: He makes various appearances throughout the games as Easter eggs.
    • In the first game, he can sometimes be seen in the Bathroom.
    • In the second game, he will briefly flash in front of the player as the lightning strikes.
    • In the third game, he can be seen in the staircase of the Living Room 4 camera.
  • Expy: Bruno Gate is this for William Afton as he's the one who murdered all of the cast, though unlike him, Bruno regrets what he did.
  • Foil: Is very blatantly one to Wario, who even lampshades this after defeating Entity01. Both him and Wario we're desperate men that made deals with demonic forces in order to gain something. While Wario was greedy and wanted to be rich, all Bruno cared about was his family.
  • Freudian Excuse: Bruno Gate's despicable actions were done because he was desperate to gain money for his daughter's surgery.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After his own karmic death, Bruno Gate had a change of heart and felt extremely guilty for what he did to the crew.
  • Karmic Death: He brutally butchered and murdered Wario and the other workers of the Fast Food Factory, only to them get brutally killed in the Wario Man suit when they come back as vengeful ghosts.
  • Lone Wolf Boss: In Five Nights at Wario's Origins, he's the sole bad guy in Night 6.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: He ends up selling his soul to Entity01, releasing both him and Emma into the world where they proceed to torment and possibly kill lots of people. Bruno himself even says "what have I done?!" upon witnessing Entity01's carnage.
  • Papa Wolf: Every despicable actions he did, from murdering Wario to making a deal with the devil himself, it was all to save his daughter.
  • Sanity Slippage: His fight with his wife and his daughter getting sick had a severe effect on his sanity, driving him to commit despicable sins.
  • Shock and Awe: Bruno defends himself against the VIRUS and the ghosts occasionally by shocking them.
  • The Sociopath: Bruno's thoughts and feelings after killing 5 innocent people over a hamburger recipe? He just felt a rush of adrenaline and felt like he was powerful.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Bruno Gate, in the updated story, not only felt no remorse for what he did (prior to his death), but any feelings and thoughts that he did have, he quickly dismissed it as nonsense and continued looking for the recipe.
  • Unnecessary Combat Roll: He can do this in the Final Show in Five Shows at Wario's.

Entities

The main overarching villains of the series, ultimately responsible for the pain and tragedy caused throughout the games.
    General

  • Reality Warper: Each of the entities are capable of manipulating reality itself and altering it any way that they see fit.
  • Story-Breaker Power: The aforementioned reality warping abilities serve exactly as this, as the entities realistically should be impossible to beat. In fact, if not for the main antagonists, Entity 01 and Emma, having an Achilles' Heel to electric shocks, they wouldn't have been defeated.

    Entity 01

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6729.png
"ALLOW ME TO REAWAKEN THE MEMORY OF YOUR GREATEST SIN"

A godlike figure that created the curse which corrupted the main cast and turned them evil. He wishes to be released back into the world with the goal of eventually reaching the eternal paradise.

  • Achilles' Heel: High concentrations of electricity disrupt his magic, and especially large quantities can kill him.
  • Ax-Crazy: Much like his creation and the ghosts. Upon being released into the world, Entity 01 immediately starts causing destruction and torturing/killing innocent people.
  • Berserk Button: He will deliver this message to the player if they leave the game in the middle of doing a show in The Theater
Entity 01: LEAVING THE THEATRE IS HIGHLY FORBIDDEN. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS AGAIN.
  • Breath Weapon: The last phase of Entity01's boss fight gives him the ability to shoot out a deadly purple laser from his mouth.
  • Cessation of Existence: Ends up becoming his fate after he gets defeated by Wario.
  • The Corruptor: Should be able to do this just like Emma can. In fact, presumably, it's possible he has done this to both of the phone guys in The Factory.
  • Deal with the Devil: A very rare inverted case with Entity01 actually making the deal with Bruno Gate. Knowing that James and Christopher managed to defeat Emma and were planning on going back in time to prevent Wario from ever finding the ritual book in the first place, Entity01 proposes to send Bruno back with his memories completely intact to find the book and use a secret spell to bring him to the real world. In exchange for this, Entity01 will fully heal his daughter.
  • Demon Head: The final phase of his boss fight is Entity01 with just his huge, demonic head.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: He's searching for a way to get into the Overworld and ask his creator why he exists.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Is an absolutely terrifying and demonic looking entity that resembles Bowser (which is really saying something considering how scary Bowser already looks in the game).
  • Energy Ball: His boss fight shows that he's capable of producing all kinds of energy balls, like small orange balls, giant destructive orbs, and big and small balls of electricity.
  • Establishing Character Moment: In his very first introduction/appearance in Director's Cut, he shows his god complex, constantly referring to himself as a deity and even stating "serving your god is what man is made to do".
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Doesn't seem to comprehend why Wario would choose to take him down instead of uncovering "the truth'" about the world, even though he was murdering a bunch of innocent civilians in the process.
  • Faux Affably Evil: With a calculated demeanor, he deftly maneuvered Bruno into a false sense of hope, convincing him that the only way to save his daughter from the impending time reset was to make a deal with Entity 01 and forfeit his soul. His astute understanding of the intricacies of the multiple timelines was impressive, but his actions were far from honorable. Although he initially appeared to act with benevolence by healing Bruno's beloved daughter, Eve, it was ultimately revealed that this was merely a ploy to deceive him into selling his soul.
  • Final Boss: Serves as this in the Director's Cut of Five Shows at Wario's, being the very last enemy encountered and fought in Endgame Quest.
  • Fireballs: The second phase of Entity01's boss fight has one of his attack partners shoot out fireballs at Wario.
  • A God Am I: He seems to genuinely think of himself as this, even in his final moments where he calls himself the answer and the way.
  • Godhood Seeker/Super Supremacist: In his own eyes, he perceived himself as a god, boldly adopting the title of the God. Moreover, his ambitions were driven by a desire to transcend the earthly plane and ascend to the divine paradise, where he could assert dominion over the entirety of existence. Even in his last breaths, he adamantly maintained his claim as the rightful deity of this world, asserting his ability to bestow ultimate power upon prisoners at will.
  • God of Evil: He is regarded as such owing to his insatiable desire to destroy all existence, earning him the title of an Omnicidal Maniac. Furthermore, he assumes the role of the Greater-Scope Villain, encompassing the entire franchise within his malevolent grasp.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: While Emma serves as the Big Bad of the series, Entity01 is ultimately the greater villain indirectly responsible for the tragedies that occurred as he created Emma.
  • High-Voltage Death: How he ends up getting killed by Wario.
  • Irony: Entity 01 viewed human beings as nothing but puppets designed purely to serve him, however it turns out that he himself is also a puppet created by a higher being.
  • Manipulative/Opportunistic Bastard: Without any hesitation, he seizes every opportunity that serves his interests, as evidenced by his manipulation of Bruno Gate. He cunningly discloses his ambition to ascend to the Overworld in order to unravel the mystery of his existence and reset the course of time. He offers Bruno a Faustian bargain, promising to safeguard his daughter's survival in exchange for the sale of his soul.
  • Meteor-Summoning Attack: As Emma is just a curse made up of a fraction of his power and demonstrated to be able to drop meteors from the sky, he should be able to do this as well.
  • Misanthrope Supreme/Straw Nihilist: With an undying abhorrence towards mankind, he espouses the notion that humanity's sole purpose is to act as instruments of divinity; for him, it is the very essence of human existence. This perspective unveils his perception of mortal beings as insignificant marionettes, subjected to his domineering manipulation, capable of inflicting torment and extinguishing lives at his capricious whim, all while remaining untouched by any repercussions, owing to his boundless authority.
  • Noble Demon: Despite being a creature of pure evil, and his dissatisfaction with his defeat at the hands of Wario, Entity01 ultimately keeps up his end of the deal with Bruno and heals his daughter.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: As soon as he finally gets freed into the world, he actively starts destroying everything and torturing/killing a lot of people.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He's a malicious creature with red, glowing eyes.
  • Ridiculously Potent Explosive: One of his attack patterns in the first phase of his boss fight is dropping down tiny orbs from the top of the screen, which will randomly explode as they fall.
  • Sadist: Just as much as his creation, Emma, if not more so. He helped Emma imprison multiple people in the Theater, where they were forced to participate in games just like Bruno once did, and the level description all but implies many of them got killed.
  • Satanic Archetype: Based on his red devilish appearance, his personality, and his actions, it's safe to assume he's this universe's version of Satan.
  • The Social Darwinist: He proclaims that the soul of Bruno Gate possesses an unparalleled strength, enough to liberate him from The Theatre and ascend to a higher realm, ultimately achieving godhood and commanding the mortal realm while reshaping the very fabric of time.
"You have the strongest soul I have ever witnessed... it may just be strong enough to fully free me."
  • The Sociopath: With an insatiable desire for sadistic amusement, he took great pleasure in inflicting agony and death upon unsuspecting humans, regardless of how it may stray from his ultimate objective. His callous and cunning nature made him a formidable force, devoid of any semblance of empathy or understanding of Wario's motivations for thwarting his plans. Even as he committed heinous acts against innocent civilians, the enigma of his own existence remained his driving force towards a paradise where the secrets of his origins lay waiting to be discovered.
  • Sore Loser: Goes off on Wario for "protecting what he thinks is the truth" and just in general acts like a sore loser after being defeated.
  • Spike Balls of Doom: Entity01 is capable of summoning spiked balls, which is shown in the 2nd phase of his fight when he attempts to drop them on Wario.

    Emma

Floating head
Demon Wario
VIRUS (Wario form)
VIRUS (Waluigi form)

VIRUS (Mario form)

VIRUS (Luigi form)

VIRUS (Peach form)

VIRUS (Toad form)

VIRUS (Bowser form)

VIRUS (Yoshi)

VIRUS (Ashley form)

VIRUS (Daisy form)

A sentient curse that ended up getting released after Wario casted a ritual on himself and his friends' souls

  • Achilles' Heel: Like her creator, she and her VIRUS entities are weak to intense electric charge.
  • Apocalypse How: Ends up causing one after using Bruno's soul to release her power into the real world, killing every single person on Earth, except for Christopher and James.
  • Ax-Crazy: Don't let Emma's formal voice fool you. Being the very curse that drives the spirits into madness and being murder happy psychopaths, Emma itself is also insane and murder happy. After using Bruno's soul to get to the real world, Emma goes on a global killing spree, slaughtering every single living thing on the planet, except for Christopher.
  • Berserk Button:
    • As Emma herself states in Cooking With Emma, she doesn't like being kept waiting.
    • It's implied that she doesn't like eye contact just like the ghosts, though other than her stalking Richard in Endgame Quest, she's never reacted when others stared at her.
  • Big Bad: Emma is the very curse that's taken over Wario and his friends, making them commit atrocities and attempt to kill the protagonists.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: Similar to the ghosts, some forms of VIRUS have pitch black eyes
  • Blank White Eyes: And other forms of it have white eyes.
  • Blinded by the Light: This is used to fend off VIRUS Luigi in Playing With Power, and VIRUS Ashley in Final Days.
  • Body Horror: VIRUS can turn into versions of the ghosts, each of them having far more distorted body parts that make them much more scary than their original counterpart.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Emma leaves Richard McRoy alive in Endgame Quest after having him cornered in his home, despite knowing that he's in there since her mechanic in-game is frequently appearing in his room in the mirror. This turns out to be a bad idea since Richard played a key role in defeating her master.
  • Boss Battle: Demon Wario has a boss fight at the end of The Final Show. The floating head of Emma also serves as a boss fight in the Cross Game Quest.
  • Cessation of Existence: Ends up dying like this, alongside its master.
  • The Corruptor: Emma corrupts the souls of Wario and his friends, turning all of them into evil spirits.
  • Deadly Lunge: Several of the VIRUS forms will do this if they kill the player.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: VIRUS Waluigi in The Exit starts out asleep and in the kitchen, where Bruno has to make sure it doesn't wake up.
  • Eaten Alive: VIRUS Wario in Origins and VIRUS Bowser in Five Shows will both eat the player in their jumpscares. Also Emma's head form has an updated jumpscare where it will grow teeth out of its head and chomp down on the player.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Every form Emma takes could very easily qualify for this. The form she primarily takes is that of an extremely disturbing floating head that's capable of growing teeth out of its forehead. In the fourth game, as well as in the Final Show in Five Shows at Wario's, she becomes a giant evil version of Wario without a face. 2018 mode in Origins and Five Shows at Wario's sees Emma become VIRUS, a demonic entity that's able to transform into very horrific, and disturbing disguises of whoever Emma previously cursed.
  • Energy Ball: Emma is capable of producing and shooting out balls of energy.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Implied. While it might just be little more than an offhanded comment, Emma calling Wario a "greedy nobody" could be read as her expressing disapproval by how greedy and money-hungry he is to call upon her in the first place.
  • Evil Counterpart: VIRUS can be considered this to the cast. Granted, the ghosts aren't exactly innocent rays of sunshine, however they've only done everything they did due to being corrupted and fuelled by nothing but hatred and a lust for revenge. VIRUS on the other hand has no such excuse for it's actions and just kills for fun.
  • Evil Laugh: VIRUS Mario lets one out if you successfully ward him off in Final Days.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Hilariously evokes this with herself. If Demon Wario is chosen to complete The Final Show, it fights... Demon Wario.
  • Expy: Due to the numerous forms it has, mechanics each of those forms have in the games, and Emma's overall role in the story, Emma is this for multiple characters:
    • Marionette, as both characters are responsible for bringing the deceased victims of their respective series' serial killer back to life.
    • Additionally, VIRUS Mario in Five Nights at Wario's Origins and VIRUS Toad in Five Shows at Wario's are both this to the Marionette as they're both kept at bay by a music box.
    • VIRUS as a whole can be considered one to the Nightmare animatronics, as both groups are just even more brutal and nightmare-fuel versions of the cast.
    • Demon Wario could be considered to Nightmare, as they both serve as the sole bad guy in the later night of their respective game, and they both have a still screen image as their jumpscare.
    • Emma itself is one to the Vengeful Spirit in Ultimate Custom Night, as they both continue to torment the respective killer of their series (although while the Vengeful Spirit is just a poor child getting revenge on a man not at all sorry for what he did, Emma is a malevolent and evil entity that tortures Bruno just for fun). Additionally both are commonly depicted as unnerving floating heads.
  • Extendable Arms: VIRUS' Mario form in Origins will extend its arm out from the Bathroom mirror, eventually getting out if he's not warded off.
  • Extra Eyes: VIRUS' Toad form has multiple eyes throughout all of its heads.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: VIRUS Toad in his jumpscare appears to have an eye in its mouth.
  • Faux Affably Evil: In Five Shows at Wario's, Emma first appears to Bruno as a friendly announcer in a theater inviting him to participate in a show. Afterwards it apologizes to Bruno for the trouble it has put him them, and escorts Bruno to an exit in the basement that instead leads him to a house where he has to fend off a bunch of entities. After Bruno manages to finally do that, Emma reveals it's true nature and that it never had any intention of letting Bruno leave.
  • Fireballs: Emma has the ability to spawn and shoot out fireballs, as she demonstrates in her boss battles.
  • Foil: To Wario, as highlighted by its Demon Wario design. Like him, she starts out appearing to be good-natured, but is ultimately a selfish, almost childish creature that and is a direct result of his actions.
  • High-Voltage Death: Prior to the Comic Retcon, Emma fights James and ends up getting beaten and killed by this.
  • Jerkass: Where to even begin with this... Emma, upon actually revealing its true self in the end of Five Shows at Wario's, is an unbearable asshole. It mocks Bruno for his actions of killing the five originals ghosts and cites Richard McRoy as one of the many people that suffered the consequences of his actions, however that's false since Emma taking over the five cast's souls (and Richard's future death) would've happened regardless of whether Bruno killed them or not since Wario casted the ritual on himself and his friends, dooming their souls from the start. Also Emma is quite the Hypocrite, as it basically implies that Bruno's victims are just as exhausted and tired as he is, while it is also corrupting and toying with the rage of said victims and not letting their souls rest.
  • Kick the Dog: Despite Bruno finally apologizing to the people he killed and receiving their forgiveness, Emma just immediately drags him down to hell just to torment him.
  • Killing Your Alternate Self: Downplayed since Demon Wario's boss fight doesn't end with her getting killed, but yes, you can defeat Demon Wario with Demon Wario.
  • Lean and Mean: Virus Luigi's arms and legs are so long, enough to easily put Waluigi to shame. He's also one of many different forms of VIRUS that will attempt to kill the player.
  • Lone Wolf Boss: As seen below in the Me's a Crowd section, Emma basically is the only enemy you deal with in Five Shows at Wario's (at least before the Director's Cut DLC). They're also the only antagonist in the 2018 mode of Five Nights at Wario's Origins.
  • Losing Your Head: VIRUS Ashley's jumpscare involves her tearing off her own head and throwing it at Bruno, presumably to bite and eat his face.
  • Me's a Crowd: As revealed at the end of the Five Shows at Wario's, the curse itself, Demon Wario, the floating head, and VIRUS are all parts of this thing.
  • Meteor-Summoning Attack: Emma in the Final Show is capable of summoning meteors from the sky.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: VIRUS' Waluigi form.
  • No Biological Sex: As a sentient curse capable of changing its form at will, it has no true biological sex. Although wwwWario seems to refer to it as a she.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Upon having her power fully unleashed into the world, Emma proceeds to slaughter every living being on the planet.
  • The Omnipresent: Apparently seems to be the case with VIRUS, who's shown existing in multiple places at once, most notably in A True Lie, where 4 VIRUS Peach's are there.
  • Perpetual Smiler: VIRUS Wario, VIRUS Peach, VIRUS Ashely, and VIRUS Yoshi all quality as this.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Emma's original form appears to be a group of small purple orbs. This also adequately describes VIRUS Waluigi.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Fits both VIRUS Peach and VIRUS Ashley, who both are depicted with red eyes.
  • Sadist: Emma finds entertainment in hurting and tormenting people, and it will go to any lengths just to make it happen.
  • Slasher Smile: Several of the VIRUS entities will give one out. In the video explaining the full story of the series, the floating head of Emma gives one out at a certain point.
  • Spike Balls of Doom: Throughout the Final Show, Emma will spawn spiked balls to attack the player.
  • Spot the Impostor: This is the basis of A True Lie. There will be 5 princesses standing in a hall, 4 of them are VIRUS disguised as Peach, while one is the real princess. Additionally later on, in Endgame Quest, one of the games you can play is called Illusion where you have to spot the real one between VIRUS Ashley and a fake.
  • Television Portal: Much like it's original version, VIRUS Mario also solely attacks through technology. In The Exit, it will try to breach the house through the TV in the Living Room. In Final Days, it'll attack if you go to the camera it's in and switch away without clicking on him.
  • Timed Mission: In The Cellar. You have 5 minutes to complete a number of tasks, otherwise VIRUS Wario will find and kill you.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: Emma probably isn't the type of name you'd expect a sentient and malicious curse to have.
  • You Are Already Dead:
    • In Playing With Power, you have to collect batteries and manage your power, while keeping track of VIRUS Luigi. Should you let your power run out completely, the screen will shot off completely, leaving you just sitting in the office and unable to do anything, where VIRUS Luigi will eventually kill you.
    • In The Exit, you have to prevent the VIRUS entities from breaching certain rooms of the house. Should you fail and any of them get in, you'll receive a message like "(Location) has been breached" making that area dangerous, and the enemy that invaded that area will shortly come and kill you.

    Entity 00 (Unmarked Spoilers)

The creator of Entity01 and the universe at large.

  • Author Avatar: Actively defied by WwwWario, who has gone on record saying it doesn't represent him in any way so much as it does the concept of a narrative as a whole.
  • Deus est Machina: Though we never see it in person (as an active choice on its part), it's a creature that feeds on standard electricity, stores that electricity in seemingly normal generators, created a world that is distinctly digital in its nature, and it's first creation is a living embodiment of a computer virus.
  • The Faceless: It actively refuses to be seen in person, and when Wario tries to enter its home, it hastily amends the situation by bombarding him and the player with strange imagery.
  • Fourth-Wall Observer: It exists between our world and the FNaW setting, and explicitly created the setting to keep players as engaged as possible with it.
  • God Needs Prayer Badly: A meta twist on the idea. The "prayer" that Entity00 feeds on is electricity, more specifically the electricity used to boot up, play and observe Five Nights at Wario's content. It made a story full of intrigue and conflict, using recognizable faces, to get the most eyes on its creation and thus the most chance at maintaining its food source. If Five Nights at Wario's stops being played, it will eventually die out.
  • In Mysterious Ways: It planned for where and when the story would begin, but not necessarily where the story would go. In WwwWario's own words, it "began the story with a bang, and let go of the steering wheel."

     Mario Entity
A sinister entity from another dimension, it was first discovered by a company trying to open a portal.
  • Eldritch Abomination: As expected of an evil entity, this thing qualifies as this. It has multiple limbs and legs, and it looks completely inhuman and horrifying.
  • Hero Killer: The Mario Entity killed Christopher (2nd timeline Christopher that never went into the future).
  • Lone Wolf Boss: It seemingly isn't affiliated with Entity01 or Emma, and is completely operating on its own.
  • No Origin Stories Allowed: wwwWario decides to leave the origins of him alone and not explain what this Mario entity is and where it came from.
  • No-Sell: It apparently can no sell Bowser's fire, unlike Wario.
  • Obviously Evil: Is a horrifying Eldritch Abomination, has spiked teeth, has a creepy Leitmotif, an evil Slasher Smile. Honestly, it might as well wear a sign that says bad guy.
  • Slasher Smile: In the full story of FNAW by wwwWario, it can be seen with one.
  • Time Master: This entity is capable of manipulating time itself, which is best demonstrated when he makes Thomas leap forward in time during his 7th night at Wario Ware Inc
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: For unknown reasons, it doesn't kill Richard McRoy when it has the chance.

Other Characters

     Max Peterson
An employee that works at the same security company that Edward works in, and he serves as the phone guy of FNAW 3
  • Expy: As the Phone Guy of course.
  • He Knows Too Much: Somehow, Max has plenty of files and notes on the ghosts, how they work/act, and how to deal with them depending on which room you hide in. This is likely why Peach decided to hunt him down and kill him on Night 5.
  • Nice Guy: Max is honestly very pleasant and nice throughout the game, giving you a call every night and offering advice on how to deal with the spirits.

     Christopher Peterson
A hero scientist doing his best to stop the threat of the ghosts and Emma.
  • Badass Bookworm: Despite being a scientist, Christopher proves to be resourceful and skilled enough to survive in an apocalyptic world where Emma killed everyone. I repeat, he survived a reality-warping curse going on a global genocide!
  • Big Good: Is a Science Hero that studies the mysterious nature of the curse and tries to figure out a way to stop it. He's directly opposing the ghosts, Emma, and Entity 01.
  • Last of His Kind: Is the very last human left alive in the original timeline after Emma kills everyone and everything else.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: A very literal example. The star rod he created to send the ghosts back in time, ends up distorting and splitting time itself.
  • Science Hero: Is a brilliant scientist that does his best to stop the threat of Wario and the other ghost, and Emma.
  • Uncertain Doom: Considering all of the events of the game have reset, by the time of Entity 01's invasion, it's unknown if him and his wife survived it.

     Lucas McRoy

The father of Richard and a man that works for an unknown science company.

  • Good Parents: Hard averted. Lucas was willing to use his son as live bait to observe the dark matter/anomaly happening at Wario's Fast Food Factory, without even letting Richard know about this.
  • Mad Scientist: The fact that he's willing to use his own son as live bait for research points exactly to this.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Good job sending your child to work at the obviously dangerous factory. You died before you could even find out the real nature of the ghosts and you essentially put a target on your son's back, leading to him eventually being taken over by Luigi and Peach.
    • As revealed in the full story of FNAW, Lucas and the science company were responsible for bringing the Mario entity into their dimension. They mess things up even more by ordering Bowser to set the place on fire, which kills both him and Toad (leading to Wario reanimating their corpses into murderous zombies basically), while still failing to take out the Mario entity.

     Rosalina Peterson

The wife of Christopher and the lady that sends the ghosts back in time.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Exactly the same deal as the ghosts, especially in the updated story where she's no longer a goddess.
  • Ambiguously Human: In the updated story of FNAW, Rosalina isn't the all powerful goddess that she used to be, however wwwWario makes it very ambiguous if she's human or not.
  • Big Good: Before the game series got updated and she was demoted, Rosalina served exactly as this, being a goddess that watches over the universe and directly opposes the cursed spirits.
  • Demoted to Extra: While Rosalina does still play a vital role in the story, she gets downgraded from being a goddess of the universe to seemingly a normal person.
  • God of Good: Before being turned into a normal person.. sort of, she was a powerful cosmic goddess that watched over the universe.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Originally, Rosalina deciding to send the spirits back in time caused time itself to be trapped in an infinite loop since she didn't consider the possibility of the curse itself being able to transcend time. In the updated story however, Rosalina uses a device made by Christopher to send them back in time and it's what causes time to break.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: The updated story has her as the wife of the Big Good, Christopher Peterson.
  • Time Master: She initially had the ability to send people back in time. However once the story was updated, Rosalina lost this power and had to use a star rod made by Christopher to send the ghosts back.
  • Uncertain Doom: It's unknown if she and Christopher survived Entity 01's invasion.

     Donkey Kong
A hallucination of a giant, murderous gorilla that will jumpscare the player if it's stared at for too long.
  • Can't Move While Being Watched: Completely averted, as staring at him for too long will make him jumpscare the player.
  • Hallucinations: Donkey Kong is nothing more than a hallucination that appeared as a result of Edward taking drugs in the previous night. It can't kill Edward directly, but it will cause a distraction and lure Wario to the room.

     Unnamed Phone Guy
A mysterious man that serves as the phone guy for Safety Terror in the Theater as well as most of the rooms (except for the Cellar) in the Factory of Five Shows at Wario's
  • Affably Evil: Aside from him serving the biggest bad in the series, this guy seems surprisingly affable and chill. He gives Bruno tips on how to survive the night, and he seems to genuinely hope for him to live. This is especially apparent in the phone call in Safety Terror, where he goes the extra mile to advise Bruno to not let the silence trick him.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: He just has the tone of a bad guy just working on the clock, even with the calls being prerecorded.
