The main protagonist of the Museum Break In Arc, a beleaguered 12-year-old girl who runs a family toy store in place of her neglectful father and sister. She winds up getting locked in the Sweet Jazz Museum after hours during a school trip and is promptly roped into an insane plot over a mysterious amulet with the power to steal people's epithets.

Her epithet, "Dumb", mutes and simplifies things. This has a few varying applications, from creating a bubble that prevents sound from traveling in or out, to lowering the damage of an attack, to literally making someone dumber.
  • All-Loving Hero: After all the crap Mera put Molly through to get her epithet, Molly still sympathizes with her and helps give her a moment's relief of her pain.
  • Animal-Eared Headband: Her hoodie has bear ears on it, though it's only really noticeable whenever Giovanni picks her up by the hood.
  • Animal Motifs: She has a noticeable bear motif that's likely invoked since she mentions that she likes bears. She wears a bear hoodie made by her mom, Giovanni calls her "Bear Trap" when he recruits her into the Banzai Blasters, and she's very enthusiastic when two bear statues become Banzai Blasters members. One of the transition cards also says that the loops in her hair are shaped like bear ears.
  • Anime Hair: At first glance, Molly's hair looks messy, but not that out there... but according to the art book, the little stars in her hair are actually naturally occuring. Yes, those rainbow-colors stars that feel like cereal marshmallows are part of her hair and not just an accessory.
  • Anti-Magic: Her Epithet allows her to negate and weaken summons made by other Epithets, which comes in handy when her sister uses her Epithet. "Hushabye" is less effective on bigger summons, though.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She ultimately ends up being just as much of a threat as the rest of the major characters, despite having a relatively harmless epithet and being a child, when she helps thwart Mera's plans and plays an integral role in her defeat. Jello further elaborates in this thread that she can be extremely manipulative and cunning as a result of her retail/management experience, though it's mostly subtly in season one.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Downplayed, but she's not as innocent as a 12 year old girl should be. A lot of her actions in the Museum arc are her manipulating others around her into helping her and Giovanni, with her only tolerating Sylvie after he tried to attack her with fire and bears because having him on her side would be better than having him on Mera's, although she does warm up to him over the course of the arc. Brendan has said that, despite about 30% of her interactions with other people being shown in "Service Industry Nice" mode, she's not actually that nice. However, she is still a 12 year old girl and isn't completely above it all. She's not so much as "malevolent underneath a kindly act" as she is "mostly cynical underneath a kindly act."
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The brunette between Trixie and Phoenica.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Zig-Zagged. She's no more nervous than usual around the Banzai Blasters until they threaten her directly.
  • Character Development: Thanks to Giovanni's influence, she grows more confident in herself and her epithet. The Museum Break In Arc ends with her refusing to run the night shift at her family's store and instead deciding to get some much needed sleep. She gains even more confidence in Prison of Plastic, finally standing up to her sister and using her epithet in more powerful ways than ever before.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After years of being mistreated, belittled and neglected by her father and sister, the ending of Prison of Plastic has Giovanni taking her in and giving her some much-needed attention.
  • The Eeyore: She already has her will written because "life is fleeting", and she casually admits that she's used to being exploited. Even Giovanni, a brazen thief and Card-Carrying Villain, is rather disturbed by this.
  • Embarrassing First Name: "TWO-LOWEEN" reveals that "Molly" is a nickname, and her full name is actually "Molly-Wolly-Doodle-All-the-Day" Blyndeff.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: She has some faint bags under her eyesas she has to stay up late to watch over the family shop since her dad and sister won't do it. She also talks about all the chores she has to do and how little time she has after them to do her homework.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her eyes are marked with multiple dots, a trait she shares with her father and older sister. Molly’s eyes in particular contain four dots, causing them to resemble the button eyes of a doll.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: As Ben realizes Molly is free, he sneers and suggests his Banzai name could be "Kidpuncher".
    Molly: Why would you call yourself "Kidpuncher"- Oh. Oh! I'm the kid! Oh no!
  • Extreme Doormat: Somewhat. She really only works the toy store because her dad and sister are too "busy" to do it, and she isn't willing to call them out on it. She's still fairly capable of acting independently, and still definitely carries her own opinions on things.
  • Foil: To her sister, Lorelai. Lorelai is older than Molly, but much less responsible, leaving her to do all the busywork such as running the family's main source of income and paying taxes. Molly has a bear motif, while Lorelai has a rabbit motif. Their Epithets are also opposed, with Molly's Dumb being able to weaken things, and Lorelai's Augment being able to boost things. Lorelai uses her Epithet to create fantasy worlds, while Molly just uses hers to create sensory dumbing bubbles around her to circumvent her sensory issues. Molly refers to Augment as a summoning Epithet, while Dumb is almost completely application based. Augment is an Epithet with clear applications in danger, while Dumb relies more on Molly's creativity to have it's true potential shown.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: After the death of their mother, Molly’s sister Lorelai became engrossed in the imaginary worlds she creates in her Dream Bubbles. Neither her sister nor their father was willing to work, forcing Molly to become the responsible one annd take over the toy store. She also does the cooking, most of the chores, and the family's taxes. Lorelai still gets mad at her sister for not wanting to play with her, ignoring the fact that Molly barely has time to do her homework, let alone play in an imaginary world for hours.
  • Guile Hero: She's not much of a fighter, but shows a knack for outwitting her assailants. Of note during the heist's climax: she plays Indus like a fiddle to escape him while freeing the Banzai Blasters, then goads Mera into a Motive Rant and mutes her hearing to set her up for a sneak attack from Giovanni.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Molly seems to have a low opinion of her epithet, given how its name is a common insult, but a little creativity and abuse of Semantic Superpowers makes "Dumb" surprisingly versatile. She utilizes every definition of the word in her powers: the older definition of "mute" allows her to silence people and create bubbles that block out sound; the "dumb down" sense of the world lets her simplify attacks to reduce their damage and reduce summoned objects to nothingness, and the definition of "stupid" gives her the power to temporarily make someone unintelligent and gullible (though this only works on those that are stupid to begin with).
  • Heroic BSoD: When Sylvie surrounds her and Giovanni with fire, Molly suffers a severe panic attack and completely shuts down, barely able to speak beyond a mumble and clinging to Giovanni for security. It takes her a few moments after Giovanni gets her to safety that she calms herself down.
  • In-Series Nickname: Once she gets roped into being a Banzai Blaster, Giovanni gives her the villain nickname "Bear Trap".
  • Intergenerational Friendship: She's a 12-year-old girl who becomes good friends with Giovanni, a 19-year old.
  • Little Miss Snarker: When the Banzai Blasters get beat by Indus yet again, Molly bluntly says, "Well, they tried their bargain bin best."
  • Major Injury Underreaction: She delivers the line "That's malnourishment!" much more cheerfully than anyone should.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Molly's epithet is the only known way to break through her sister's dream bubbles, and she is able to erase and nullify anything inside of them. According to Lorelai's prologue chapter, it's because their powers are opposed: "Augment" enhances things to the point of sensory overload, while "Dumb" can tone them down and simplify them to nothingness.
  • Meaningful Name: Molly's villain nickname is "Bear Trap" and her character arc in the Museum Break In Arc is all about how she needs to have more confidence and pride in herself and not let others step all over her. What happens when someone steps on a bear trap?
  • Missing Mom: Her mom died at least two years prior to the events of the series. It’s confirmed in Prison of Plastic that she died in a fire, and that said fire contributed to Molly’s near-crippling pyrophobia.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: After all of her character development in the Museum Break In Arc, what's the first thing she does? Announces proudly that she's going to bed, while closing the store.
  • Mundane Utility: She first uses her silence bubble ability onscreen to get a little peace and quiet when her class (and father) gets too rowdy.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The In-Between to Feenie’s Nice and Trixie’s Mean.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Protecting Mera from one of Giovanni's attacks gives Mera the idea to steal her epithet, because it can counter the pain and fragility that comes with her own powers.
  • Only Sane Man: To quote the Prison of Plastic Kickstarter announcement, she serves as the cast's only brain cell. She serves as this in the Museum Break In Arc, since she's just a normal (if very overworked) preteen locked in with a incompetent villain and his goons, an irritable scheming woman with a dumb-as-rocks bodyguard, and a questionably sane doctor. While her voice of reason does help a lot, she's also woefully unprepared for actual combat and needs the help of people like Giovanni.
  • Out of Focus: In the Western Arc, where she only appears at its beginning and end.
  • The Misophonic: She suffers from misophonia, though she can manage it pretty well thanks to her epithet.
  • Personality Powers: Molly is one of the show's few Straight Men and spends most of her screen time reigning in the rest of the cast's eccentricities, something Dumb reflects by allowing her to cast Anti-Magic.
  • Punny Name: Her surname, Blyndeff, is derived from the old-fashioned phrase "blind, deaf, and dumb", referring to her epithet being "Dumb".
  • Race Lift: White-skinned blonde in Anime Campaign, dark-skinned brunette here. Jello has confirmed that this was an intentional change, as part of cast diversification.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Prison of Plastic ends with Giovanni stealing her away from Martin and hiding her at Crusher's treehouse, letting her sleep in to help make up for her sleep debt, and fixing her a nice breakfast.
  • Sensory Overload: Molly has misophonia, and while it usually doesn't bother her, she sometimes has to resort to creating a mute bubble around herself to block out all noise if things do get too loud.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's a pretty awkward and shy little girl, at least at the start of the story.
  • Soul-Sucking Retail Job: She took up her mom's job of running the toy store since the rest of her family isn't willing to take the responsibility. When Giovanni describes her role as "minion" (do all the hard work while he takes all the credit), she compares it to working retail.
  • Spanner in the Works: Had she not been present at the museum that night, Indus and Mera probably would've had no trouble taking down and imprisoning the Banzai Blasters, and their heist would've gone off without a hitch.
  • Squishy Wizard: Molly's pretty smart under pressure and creative with her epithet, but its uses in a fight are limited and she's still a twelve-year-old kid with no training or combat experience. Likewise, her stamina is her lowest stat.
  • Stepford Smiler: She acts nice at her job and timid away from it, but she holds a lot of sadness and anger underneath it all (with the former showing more than the latter in the first season).
  • Stupidity-Inducing Attack: "Dumb" can be used to make people very stupid and suggestible, though it only works on those who are already quite stupid.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Prison of Plastic reveals this was how she got her epithet. She used it to break Lorelai's bubbles while she was dreaming because a fire had broke out in their home. Lorelai believes it was because her Dream Bubbles caused the fire that ended up killing their mother, and it became the root of Molly's pyrophobia.
  • Verbal Tic: Word of God states that her tendency, when panicking, to get out several "no"s in a rushed tone is a tic she and Lorelai share.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Deconstructed. Her father's Manchild tendencies and lack of responsibility leave Molly struggling to balance her schoolwork and hobbies with doing chores and running the family store. She only gets five hours of sleep as a result.
  • When She Smiles: Considering just how down in the dumps she usually is thanks to her frankly pretty miserable life, her smiling is pretty genuinely heartwarming.
  • Who's on First?: Throughout the first episode, her attempts to tell people that her epithet is the word "Dumb" are misinterpreted as her saying "My power is lame". The confusion ends after she stupefies one of Giovanni's minions.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She suffers from crippling pyrophobia, the fear of fire. It's heavily implied that this fear is related to her mother's death. Prison of Plastic confirms this.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Out of necessity. Taking responsibility for the rest of her family means she’s had to teach herself about things like taxes and common business practices.
  • Youthful Freckles: She has freckles and she's one of the youngest characters in the cast, being only twelve.

One of Molly's best friends, a young gremlin-ish child that comes from a family of criminals and thugs. They carry boxcutters for self defense and has a penchant for making "magic potions" out of anything they can find. Trixie is also non-binary, and uses they/she pronouns.


  • Affectionate Nick Name: Is called "Short-snacks" by her cousin Giovanni.
  • Blade Enthusiast: Trixie carries a lot of boxcutters in their long sleeves, which gives them an appearance reminiscent of animal claws.
  • Blessed with Suck: Downplayed. While her ability to communicate with the dead is something she considers, she also has some issues with it. Her eyecatch promoting Prison of Plastic shows that most dead people aren't that interesting to talk too, as they make being dead their whole personality. The book itself reveals that because ghosts hang out in the same places living people do, she sometimes can't tell when someone is a ghost or alive, which can land her in trouble when she ignores adults she mistakes for ghosts.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The redhead (though more of a pinkhead in this instance) between Molly and Phoenica.
  • Book Dumb: While they're not the brightest when it comes to scholarly pursuits, they had four lifetimes’ worth of street-smarts drilled into their head by their older siblings.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She repeatedly insults Lorelai in "Prison of Plastic". She immediately begins criticizing an already angry Lorelai after she turns Rick into a lizard, calling her stupid for not knowing the difference between newts and chameleons. To be fair to Trixie, it is a rather big difference.
  • Clashing Cousins: With Giovanni. Although it's really downplayed and more like children squabbling and play-fighting than actual harm.
  • Connected All Along: Trixie and Giovanni are revealed to know each other due to the two being cousins.
  • The Family That Slays Together: Trixie comes from a famous family of thugs and criminals that rule the streets of Sweet Jazz City.
  • Freudian Excuse: Prison of Plastic reveals that she was a bully target in elementary school, and her siblings taught her to form a confident, tough front to hoard them off. However this leads to them being even more of an outcast as the student body is generally afraid of them, and often talks about them behind their back in the hallways. Though, they can't seem to drop the act and parts of it even seem to be integrated into natural personality now.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Trixie, while not actually evil, is rebellious and thinks crime is cool. When Lorelai transforms her and Phoenica into embodiments of their spirits, Trixie becomes a tiny demon with bat wings, while the law-abiding Feenie becomes a tiny bird-winged angel.
  • Image Song: "Bubblegum Renegade", a blues rock song whose first verse paints Trixie as a dangerous punk (or at least a Badbutt), only for the second verse to reveal their softer side when they help Phoenica when she gets stuck in a jungle gym.
  • I See Dead People: Ever since successfully talking to one via a spirit board, Trixie has had the ability to see and communicate with ghosts wandering around the world. She attributes this to an Epithet she has yet to figure out. This ability is actually what led to the Neo Trio meeting, as both Molly and Feenie sought her out to see if they could speak to their mothers through her.
  • Last Episode, New Character: They make their first physical appearance during the last seconds of season 1.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Downplayed, as it’s more of "Maybe Epithet, Maybe Weird Non-Epithet Ability." It's left unclear in Prison of Plastic as to whether her ghost-seeing powers are due to an Epithet she's yet to discover or if she's a Mundie and her abilities are derived from some other source.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The Mean to Feenie’s Nice and Molly’s In-Between.
  • Noodle Incident: According to Trixie's bio, they aren't allowed to have energy drinks, not after "the incident". It is not specified what this incident was.
  • Nothing Up My Sleeve: The boxcutter blades Trixie uses are usually concealed within the sleeves of her sweater.
  • Paper Tiger: Does an excellent job of intimidating the mugger that threatened Molly and Phoenica in the prologue of Prison of Plastic, but as soon as the mugger is gone, Trixie pretty much breaks down crying because of how scared she was.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: Partway through Prison of Plastic, it's revealed that Trixie is non-binary and genderfluid when an alarm goes off on Phoenica's phone, which she uses as a reminder to switch which set of pronouns to use for Trixie. For the rest of the story, Trixie is referred to with "they/them" pronouns rather than the "she/her" that was used prior.
  • Shout-Out: According to this tweet, Trixie's re-design was deliberately based on Mustard Cookie from Cookie Run.
  • Un-Sorcerer: Possibly. She has no confirmed Epithet and is often referred to as a Mundie (Epithet-less person), but she believes that her ability to talk to ghosts is derived from an Epithet, and she just hasn't figured out what it is yet. Molly and Phoenica agree with her, but its unclear as to whether she's right or just mistaken.
  • Victory Through Intimidation: Her older sister taught her how to fight, while her older brother taught her how to scare people so bad that she would never need to. She demonstrates her impeccable skill in the latter in Prison of Plastic's first prologue, where she's able to send a mugger running for the hills with intimidation alone.
  • World of Technicolor Hair: Trixie’s pink hair is confirmed to be natural and inherited from a distant Ocean Race ancestor.

Molly's other best friend, a kind-hearted girl rich in dollars but poor in sense. She comes from a family of professional Magical Girl Heroes who are destined to gather magical girl allies, do battle with an ancient evil sorceress and save the world every few decades.


  • Absurd Phobia: Terrified by Halloween and Halloween decorations. This is specific to Halloween stuff: she likes real bats, but would be horrified by a cartoony bat decoration, for example. She's especially scared of pumpkins. This is due to an incident in her childhood where she got lost at a Halloween gala and was separated from her parents for hours.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Phoenica was inscribed with the Epithet "Fluff" in Anime Campaign, but is a mundie in Epithet Erased, as Jello wanted there to be more mundie characters in the series.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The blonde between Molly and Trixie.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Be nice to me."
  • Ditzy Genius: Phoenica can absorb information from books like a sponge, but is severely lacking in common sense.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She and Trixie are both name-dropped in an Eye Catch in episode 4, and a picture of Phoenica's ancestor can be seen inside the museum itself.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Phoenica has blonde hair and wears golden bells and a dress with white accents. When Lorelai uses a spell to transform her into an embodiment of her spirit, she becomes a tiny angel.
  • Good Wears White: Phoenica’s outfit has white accents, and she’s thoroughly and undeniably a nice, clean girl.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: When Phoenica is transformed by Lorelai, she gains angelic bird wings, contrasting with rebellious Trixie and her devilish bat wings.
  • In-Series Nickname: Called "Feenie" by her parents and close friends.
  • Last Episode, New Character: She makes her first physical appearance during the last seconds of season 1.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: The Fleecity family is a clan of Magical Girl Heroes, who have to fight an evil witch known as the Songstress, who returns every three generations. This is where Phoenica's money comes from, as every country pays her family millions in exchange for keeping the whole world safe.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The Nice to Trixie’s Mean and Molly’s In-Between.
  • Noodle Incident: Prison of Plastic, apparently, is not the first time she's risked her life for the sake of Molly's homework.
  • Precocious Crush: First has one for Sylvie, then quickly gains eyes for Rick Shades. It’s mentioned that she’s had a crush on every boy in her class before, though some lasted longer than others.
    Phoenica: ”And I just finished making a marriage certificate for that museum sheep boy...Oh well! If it’s a wizard husband that fate hands me, then a wizard husband I shall have!”
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: Phoenica is stated in the Prison of Plastic Kickstarter trailer to be "Literally the richest girl in the world", yet the very next bullet point states her to also be "terminal stupid". It's clarified that while she's very good at schoolwork, she's severely lacking in common sense.
  • Un-Sorcerer: She is a mundie, though she believes she has magical powers (and given that she comes from a line of Magical Girl Warriors, she very well could).

As "Vincent Murder"

"I think I've had just about enough of you, guy! You made my minion cry! NOBODY makes my minions cry except ME!"

A recently promoted Captain in the Banzai Blasters, who broke into the Sweet Jazz Museum with no real goal besides "stealing artifacts". Despite being a self-proclaimed evil villain, he's actually very kind and compassionate, especially toward his minions, and he and Molly quickly become friends after getting to know one another.

After the events of the Sweet Jazz Museum, he heads over to Red Wood Run, igniting the plot of season one's second arc. There, he realizes the Banzai Blasters are full of jerks and bullies and leaves the group, deciding instead to strike out as villain on his own instead.
His epithet, "Soup", is Exactly What It Says on the Tin. He's equipped with a bat with a knife taped to it and backed up by a small crew of fellow Banzai Blasters to make up for this.
  • 13 Is Unlucky: Inverted. Thirteen is Giovanni's lucky number, and he does a Critical Hit upon his 13th successful attack. Although it's played straight if you're on the other side of the attack.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: His initial incarnation at the start of Anime Campaign was much less flattering. There, he's depicted as a bumbling, self-centered, and immature Butt-Monkey who only has aspirations of becoming a supervillain for attention, though does grow into a more well-rounded character by the end of series that more resembles his characterization in Epithet Erased. In effect, he starts Epithet Erased with all the character development he had by the end Anime Campaign from the first episode, allowing him to be more interesting and likable from the get-go.
  • Affably Evil: Despite being a villain, he is a genuinely Nice Guy who's passionately kind towards all of his henchmen, especially Molly. Of course, he isn't actually evil.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Over and above the minion nicknames, he refers to Trixie as "Shortstack".
  • Basement-Dweller: He still lives with his mother, and probably doesn't have a job outside of the Banzai Blasters (if that can even be considered a job) since he mentions having an allowance.
  • Batter Up!: His weapon of choice is a baseball bat with a knife tapped onto it. Since he has actual baseball experience, he uses it to bat a ball of yarn into Sylvie's head to cut off one of his attacks.
  • Battle Aura: Sort of. His "Demon Energy" aura is actually a cloud of steam from his Epithet.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: It's implied that Lorelai's attraction to him mainly comes from the fact that he's the only person who actually likes her games and doesn't dismiss her as childish.
  • Benevolent Boss: Despite his insistence on being evil, Giovanni cares for his minions greatly, and clearly shows this when they're in danger. His minions in turn adore him and would gladly go out of their way to help him out in any wacky schemes he comes up with.
  • Beware the Silly Ones:
    • While his epithet isn't especially strong, he can do a lot with it, and every 13th hit he lands is critical, which is what takes down Mera in the end.
    • When Molly falls under Sylvie's Nightmare Fuel attack and starts openly crying when experiencing her worst fear, fire, Giovanni becomes entirely serious and threatening towards Sylvie and keeps it up until he gets Molly to safety and confirms she's okay.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Giovanni desperately wants to be taken seriously as a villain, but his incompetence and genuine niceness completely negate his attempts to be evil.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He quickly develops this towards Molly soon after making her on as one of his minions.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Very quickly takes to trying to bolster Molly's confidence and self-worth, as well as pushing her to grow a spine and stand up for herself, after taking her under his wing.
  • Blatant Lies: The "Prison of Plastic" announcement shows that he's rebranding himself as "Vincent Murder!", an awesome new villain who's definitely not Giovanni Potage.
  • Butt-Monkey: Giovanni gains a lot of Amusing Injuries in the first arc, and is easily the butt of jokes since his opponents are stronger than him.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He pays the Banzai Blasters membership fee despite knowing that it's a scam, because, in his mind, that's a sign that they're a truly villainous organization.
  • Character Catchphrase: He usually says "teleports behind you!" in the narration whenever he uses his steam-based movement abilities, even when he doesn't use them to back-attack someone. (It’s possible that this isn’t a catchphrase, and he actually named his steam-jump ability “Teleports Behind You”.)
  • Chuunibyou: Classic Evil Eye-type. Although he does have a genuine power, it's not the most impressive-sounding, leading him to give intimidating, but Non Indicative Names to all his attacks. His soup bolts thus become "LavAcid Grenades", his steam eruption is "Demon Energy Aura", his bat with a knife taped to it is the "Soul Slugger Doom Bat of Maximum Destruction", and perhaps most glaringly, his Catchphrase for using his steam jump is the memetically infamous "teleports behind you".
  • Cloudcuckoolander: To say he's a bit strange would be an understatement.
  • Combat Medic: While he seems to prefer offense, his epithet has healing applications in the form of restorative soup he can summon once per battle and a fog that grants slow regeneration.
  • Combo Platter Powers: While most of his powers are at least notionally related to his Soup Epithet in some form, they cover a much wider range than most Epithets, likely due to his high creativity with his powers. He also has an inexplicable ability to always critical on his 13th attack, which he himself admits has nothing to do with his Epithet.
  • Critical Hit Class: Giovanni has the ability to land a critical hit on every thirteenth attack he lands. He takes advantage of this by attacking random objects or hitting his allies with weak attacks to "bank" a crit for when he needs it.
  • Cute Little Fangs: He has a prominent fang when he smiles, fitting with his crafty nature. (Prison of Plastic takes this further, describing him as actually having shark-like teeth, likely due to his Ocean Race genes.)
  • Deaf Composer: He's an expert cook and his power is spontaneous soup generation, but eating a hot coal when he was younger and later experimentations with his Epithet have left him with an almost non-existent sense of taste.
  • Defector from Decadence: After Bugsy and Arnold teach him what it takes to be a high-level Banzai Blaster (bullying others, mistreating minions, and just being a Jerkass in general), Giovanni decides to leave the Banzai Blasters and become a super-villain on his own terms.
  • Demoted to Extra: Very Downplayed; while he's nowhere near as prominent in the Western Arc as he was in the Break-In Arc, he's still very central and important to the narrative due to being the one who stole the Arsene Amulet, and his subsequent interactions with the other Banzai Blasters outside his gang only further give him prominence.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • He clearly put very little thought into his museum "heist," having no particular target or plan to carry the goods. Mera mercilessly lampshades this.
    • He joins the Banzai Blasters — a blatant criminal organization and pyramid scheme — to make friends and have fun. Giovanni only later realizes the organization really does only exist to exploit people and promptly quits.
    • He invites his Boys to join his new criminal organization. When they ask questions, it becomes clear he never bothered to come up with a name or any goals, but his Boys are so loyal they join anyway.
    • As a kid he thought that eating a burning hot coal was a good idea. It wasn't, and that combined with figuring out his Epithet means that he's all but destroyed his sense of taste.
  • Edible Ammunition: One of his attacks is creating a ball of soup to throw at the enemy. Its effectiveness is exactly what you would expect from a thrown ball of soup.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: According to Jello Giovanni wanted his Banzai nickname to be “Hotshot”, but the group decided to name him “Creampuff” as a way of mocking him for bringing homemade pastries to the squad’s first meeting.
  • Excessive Steam Syndrome: As a side effect of his epithet, Giovanni's body can emanate hot steam, which he can use to make quick getaways or dispel things like Sylvie's dust.
  • Expy: Of Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown. Both are self-proclaimed evil masterminds who are often hilariously ineffective, live in their mothers' basements, are In Touch with His Feminine Side, and have one particular area of expertise they apply to their villainy that they actually excel in (baseball for Giovanni, robotics for Jack). Danny Cooksey, Jack's voice actor, was also initially considered to voice Giovanni before Kyle Igneczi was chosen. Oh, and both of them are redheads.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: So many that his "evil facade" doesn't hold up at all.
    • Even before Molly allies with him, he's disgusted by the fact that Mera wants to steal her Epithet.
    • He really dislikes Mera for wanting to steal other people's Epithets and Sylvie's Insufferable Genius tendencies.
    • Abusing minions with your authority and stealing the fruits of their hard work is not something Giovanni believes a real villain would do.
    • He thinks lowly of people who shoplift or dine-and-dash.
    • He makes it clear there is a difference between a bad guy and a bad person. A bad guy will do bad things while looking cool and is always prepared to lose so everyone will be happy, while a bad person will do something like forcing people to pay huge prices for life saving medicine. Lorelai's bullying and bad behavior is what causes him to award her zero points for her minion exam.
    • Parents mistreating their kids and not thinking about their well-being drive Giovanni nuts. Seeing how callous Martin is to Molly and Lorelai's happiness lead Giovanni to decide not only to whack Martin by the backside of his head but to "kidnap" Molly and take her somewhere where she is loved and cared for.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Crusher, one of Giovanni's minions, is named after his crush on Giovanni. So much that he loudly screams "I love you!" upon seeing the Fog of Lost Souls demonstrated. Giovanni doesn't seem to notice.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Most of what draws Giovanni to a career in villainy is the opportunity to ham it up; actually being evil is pretty far down the list. Notably, one of the first things he brings up in his idea of true villainy is getting the coolest song.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: His ultimate attack, "Soup That Is Too Hot!". It's soup that is too hot to eat.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Believe it or not, Giovanni is pretty good at figuring out who's trustworthy and who isn't, affiliation with the Banzai Blasters aside. Lorelai works hard to make herself appear as the ideal minion candidate and even bullies everyone else into keeping their mouths shut, only for Giovanni to award her a whopping zero points. He explains he isn't stupid and was well aware she was constantly lying and doesn’t approve of her actions even if he hopes she can be better in the future.
  • A Father to His Men: It's established early on that Giovanni sincerely cares about the Banzai Blasters he leads (except maybe Ben), to the point of crying when Mera knocks them out. Once he recruits Molly as one of his "boys", he quickly becomes attentive to her well-being and protects her during fights.
  • Flash Step: A common application of his steam production, alongside jumping In a Single Bound, is moving at speeds faster than the eye can see. He seems to only be able to do it in short bursts, though.
  • Foreshadowing: Trixie mentions early on that one time he ate a burning coal at a family gathering as he declared it looked like a forbidden candy. Later, he only comments on the gargoyle potion's mouth feel, has no problem eating Lorelai's charred cookies and tells her his favorite flavor is 'crunchy'. It turns out that thanks to eating the aforementioned coal and experimenting with his epithet, he's pretty much destroyed his sense of taste.
  • Fragile Speedster: He has a good deal of mobility with the help of using steam to enhance his movement, and he has a pretty good swing with his bat, but his overall durability and combat ability are rather low, meaning that he's not very good at actually beating people unless he gets his 13th hit in, and when he gets hurt, he really gets hurt.
  • Genius Ditz: On the one hand, the museum arc shows off his dumber traits - his lack of real planning, childishness, and obsession with being evil while struggling to do more than Poke the Poodle level crimes. On the other hand, he's shown to be extremely creative, (As detailed under Heart Is an Awesome Power) and extremely emotionally intelligent, able to effortlessly see through Lorelai's attempts to lie to him.
  • Guyliner: Wears black nail polish under his gloves.
  • Heal Thyself: He can make a healing soup named "Ancient Potion" with his epithet, which he claims is a once per battle ability.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Downplayed. His epithet doesn't give him much to work with since it just involves creating soup, but Giovanni still finds useful applications of his epithet, namely the ability to generate steam and hot soup. Really, he can do anything a person with power over boiling water could (or even cold water if he channels something like Vichyssoise or gazpacho), with the added benefit of it being nutritious (which translates to healing in this setting).
  • Hidden Depths:
    • His creativity stat is maxed out, and he knits as a hobby. Given the relative uselessness of his epithet, this creative talent comes in handy.
    • Claims that, when it comes to baseball, he "can't be beat", and has the trophies on a shelf in his room to back it up.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Underneath his childish obsession with supervillainy, Giovanni is a nice guy who truly cares about, and will take care of, any minion under his charge.
  • Horned Humanoid: He has Lorelai give him gargoyle powers which, along with granting him stone appendages and wings, gives him a set of seven-inch horns which causes him to repeatedly walk into doorframes. Rick also gains a pair when Giovanni befriends him.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: There's no real explanation on where he keeps "Soul Crusher" (a giant baseball bat/knife combo) when it's not in his hands.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: Nobody can make his minions cry... except him.
  • I Know Madden Kombat: One reason he fights with a bat is that he's an excellent baseball player. His athletic skills come in handy during battles.
  • In a Single Bound: The weight he can carry is limited, but he can use jets of steam to pull off some impressive leaps.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: His ability to hit for increased damage every 13th attack has no explanation or apparent connection to his Epithet. Molly even asks if there's a connection and he denies it.
  • Insistent Terminology: He insists on calling his minions his "boys", even though one of them is female. When he recruits Molly as one of his minions, he tells her she's just been promoted to "boy".
  • Intergenerational Friendship: He's nineteen, but he becomes fast friends with Molly, who's twelve years old.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: He likes knitting, carries a man-purse on him, has painted nails underneath his gloves and is very emotionally open to his gang. He tells Car Crash he worries that he may have something wrong with his eyes which could be why he crashes so often and advises he goes to get it checked. He also wears a skirt as Vincent Murder.
  • Irony: Despite having a food-based epithet, he damaged his tongue so badly from eating a burning coal and experimenting with his powers that he can't taste anything. It's implied only fifteen percent of his tastebuds remain.
  • Jack of All Stats: He actually possesses a decent mix of abilities for offense (soup may not sound like the deadliest weapon imaginable, but Giovanni has demonstrated he can create it steaming-hot) mobility (his steam jumping and speed blitzing), support (healing soup) and miscellaneous utility ("Demon Energy Aura"). None of them are exactly best-in-class but he still gets surprising mileage from a power that amounts to spontaneously generating soup.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: In the first arc, he and his boys completely get away with the heist of Arsene Amulet, and he also manages to escape Redwood Run without being taken in by the police. This doesn't last, he loses the amulet and is forced to go on the run after Percy learns his civilian identity in the second arc.
  • Large Ham: He's very theatrical in his speeches and even the narrations of his actions, partially since Evil Is Hammy and partially to make up for his sub-par abilities.
  • Made of Iron: The guy can surprisingly take a lot of damage. By the end of the heist, he's basically perfectly fine even after having dealt with multiple fights that did not go well for him. Post-win health recovery helps with this.
  • Magnetic Hero: While he'd never agree to being called a hero, Giovanni’s tendency to go above and beyond for even complete strangers has won him numerous friends.
  • Manchild: Giovanni is much less mature than Molly (who more or less runs her family), as he doesn't understand concepts like taxes, sleeps in a racecar bed, builds blanket forts, and has a childish obsession with villainy. However, he still manages to be more thoughtful and crafty than Indus when the situation calls for it. He's also only around 19 years old, so his immaturity isn't quite as glaring as it could be.
  • Meaningful Name: "Potage" is a particularly thick type of soup.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Parodied; his go-to weapon is a baseball bat with a knife taped to it. He calls it the "Soul Crusher".
  • Morality Chain: Oddly enough, he's a downplayed one to Molly, of all people; Jello has mentioned that Molly has the potential to snap and drop her cheeriness later in life (aided by being somewhat scheming already), and Giovanni has helped curb that by being the only adult in her life to treat her with any respect.
  • The Nicknamer: It's possible he's the one who gives his gang their names, since he dubbed Molly "Bear Trap".
  • Non-Indicative Name: Invoked to hide his epithet and make his powers sound cooler. He calls his soup balls "Lavacid Grenades"note , his steam emissions are a "Demon Energy Aura," and his blinding steam cloud is "the Fog of Lost Souls."
  • Obliviously Evil: More like Obliviously Good. He thinks he's a really evil supervillain, but he's a really good friend, surprisingly emotionally intelligent and insightful, has a strong aversion for Jerkasses like Sylvie (at first), Bubsy, and Arnold, and is willing to lie to save Molly and Sylvie trouble from the law. In addition to that, his worst crime was trying to steal cool artifacts from the museum, and the other cases he condones range between loitering and enthusiastically stealing from big companies and extorting local government employees to help the area under their control, if what he says in the "Molly Doll" video is canon.
    Molly: Wow, boss. I figured you'd be encouraging people to steal these.
    Giovanni: What?! No! Wait! (blows raspberry) Listen, Bear Trap, you gotta support small businesses and independent productions! The whole point of criming is to stick it to "The Man"! That's why shoplifting and dine-and-dashing are lo-ser crimes! LOSERS!!! You're not stealing from some big company. You're just getting a random employee in trouble!
    Molly: Really? I had no idea!
    Giovanni: Hmmm-hmmm. Remember kids, you can be so much better than some small-time crook. You can be a LARGE-time crook! Visit your library to find out how just a little well-placed extortion - and blackmail - can make a positive change in your local government.
  • Oblivious to Love: Despite his usually excellent social awareness, he manages to have three separate people - Crusher, Spike, and Lorelai - crushing on him over the course of the series and Prison of Plastic without seeming to register that any of them are doing so. Crusher keeps his membership card in a locket so it can be "next to his heart" and all Giovanni thinks is "that's a weird place to keep your membership card".
  • Our Gargoyles Rock: He asks Lorelai for a potion to give him powers and initially asks for dragon powers, then phoenix powers, then dragon ''and'' phoenix powers before settling on a gargoyle to be mindful of Molly's pyrophobia. This grants him clawed limbs made of stone, wings that allow him to fly and a set of horns.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: For a loose definition of "evil", anyway: The ending of Prison of Plastic sees him "kidnap" Molly to get back at her neglectful father Martin (though it's heavily implied that he just wanted to get Molly out of Martin's custody and take her to someone who could take better care of her).
  • Parental Substitute: It takes him maybe a week to become more of a parent to Molly than her biological father is (to be fair, the bar on that one is so low it's damaging the floor). When he makes a scornful comment about parents in Prison of Plastic, the narration drily notes that he essentially has six kids already and at least one more on the way, and after the kidnapping, we might as well go ahead and formalise that at seven.
  • Poke the Poodle: What he truly believes is considered the truest of crimes!
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Pink is secretly his favorite color, and one of his hobbies is knitting. He even carries knitting needles and yarn with him. He also has a poster of a Magical Girl that looks suspiciously similar to Sailor Moon on the same wall as his baseball stuff. He even earned his Banzai nickname by bringing in cream puffs to his first squad meeting.
  • Regular Character: Oddly enough, despite not being the protagonist of either arc, Giovanni is the only character to appear in every episode.
  • Refuge in Audacity: How he gets away with kidnapping Molly - he picks her up and runs away, in front of virtually the entire cast of Prison of Plastic, all of whom are either too drained, too accustomed to Giovanni being an approachable and friendly Harmless Villain (or both) to expect it.
  • Savage Spiked Weapons: Parodied with the knife taped to his "Soul Crusher" bat, though the flimsy attachment allows him to peel the knife off and launch it with the bat like a projectile. Molly lampshades that the knife is usually supposed to go through the bat.
    Giovanni: (scoffs) What!? And ruin a perfectly-good bat? I might be evil, but I'm evil on a budget.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Has one of the highest screeches and screams that match Molly's screams.
  • Secret Test of Character: Played with. Giovanni tells Lorelai she can be a minion without a recommendation if she passes a test while demonstrating the most important minion quality. Lorelai believes the quality is evil and is confused when Giovanni reveals the test is a series of baking challenges. She ultimately is unable to become a minion as he was really looking for the willingness to fail, and was actually testing her reaction to failure.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Giovanni appears to not notice how weird Lorelai acts throughout "Prison of Plastic" as she continuously cheats at his tests and tries to do away with everyone else. He later explains he was well aware of what she was doing and that is why he can’t let her become a minion.
  • Smoke Out: The proficiency boost he receives lets him create a thick fog that enables this, but it can also act as a healing mist.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: He's the only one not remotely apprehensive about befriending Rick, despite noting that it looks like he's being offered a Deal with the Devil, correctly identifying the handshake as a sincere gesture of friendship rather than a predatory contract.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: Giovanni has a bad habit of going on an ego trip whenever he manages to win a battle or outsmart someone, especially after fighting Sylvie (even though Molly defeated him) and Bugsy (where he accidentally shouts out his name to Percy).
  • Villain Has a Point: For... a given value of villain... but he makes a well-reasoned point about how hellish Molly's home life is, enough that he barely has to convince Phoenica to give Molly back.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Giovanni is less effective in a straight fight than the other Inscribed, but he's learned enough variety in powers to give him some advantages they don't have, such as a high level of mobility. Coupled with creative uses of his epithet, this means that while his straight damage potential is lacking, he can circumvent it with some quick thinking and expertise.
  • When He Smiles: Giovanni's default expression is a smug smirk, and he spends most of his time on-screen grimacing, gloating, or otherwise pulling a face. Still, on the one occasion where he genuinely smiles nicely, he actually looks less villainous than usual.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Giovanni’s "Vincent Murder" outfit includes a black skirt with flames on it, and he is a kind person who fights injustice.
  • World of Technicolor Hair: In his universe, natural pink hair is a phenotype found in many people with Ocean Race ancestors; he’s related to Trixie, who is confirmed to have such ancestry, implying he does as well.

A 15-year-old psychologist who investigates interactions between Epithets and the human psyche. After overhearing Indus talking about the Arsene Amulet, he stayed in the museum so that he can find and study it.

His epithet, "Drowsy", lulls his targets to sleep using a cloud of pollen-like dust. Sylvie can also pull from his target's dreams or nightmares and bring them to life.
  • Animal Motifs: Has a mild sheep motif, what with his counting sheep attack and woolly sweater hood.
  • Badass Bookworm: A college graduate and licensed psychologist at the age of 15, and while he's not quite as capable a fighter as he claims, he's still pretty powerful, putting up a good fight against Molly and Giovanni at the same time, and later nearly defeating Mera all by himself.
  • Berserk Button: He really doesn't like being called a kid.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Despite Mera threatening to take his epithet earlier, and having just been crushed by a piece of ceiling Mera brought down a moment ago, he still drags himself out of the rubble to stop Mera from taking Molly's epithet, due to her being his First Friend.
  • Brought Down to Normal: His powers are temporarily stolen by Mera in Episode 4, courtesy of the Arsene Amulet. Molly manages to return them to him after Mera is defeated.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: While he's trying so hard to look cool that it loops around to being lame, he is a versatile and proficient Epithet user and one of the only ones without an easily exploitable weakness, like lack of direct combat applications for his Epithet (Giovanni, Molly, Ramsey), an excessive cost to use it (Percy, Mera), or uncreative applications (Indus).
  • De-power: He's the only known victim of the Arsene Amulet, but Molly returns his Epithet quickly after it's taken.
  • Friendless Background: Apparently he's never had time to actually make them, and hasn't really been able to relate to others for that matter. He ultimately forms his first friendship with Molly at the end of the Museum Break In Arc.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Once he realizes that Mera is the one who wants to steal the Arsene Amulet and was manipulating him, he joins Molly and Giovanni's side to help take her down.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: It is remarkably easy for Mera to convince him that she has no ulterior motives for looking for the Arsene Amulet and that the real thieves are Molly and Giovanni (who wants to steal the amulet, but doesn't really care about its powers).

  • Insufferable Genius: Word of God consistently treats his doctorate as legitimate, meaning he really did graduate as a qualified psychologist at the age of 15; assuming that accomplishment takes about as much effort as in our world (5-7 years of study), that means he was either admitted to college at or before age 10, was putting in enough work to get it done faster than average, or both. Unfortunately, between still being 15 and having spent so much of his life focused on academic accomplishments rather than learning any social skills, he generally comes across as an obnoxious, entitled jackass who thinks he should get special treatment just because he wants it. In the information cards released in the leadup to Epithet Erased: Prison of Plastic, his special bonus stat is "Um, Actually" and is rated at Max.
  • Jack of All Stats: His stats are roughly equal across the board with Sylvie not having any particularly high or low scores like Giovanni or Percy.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: While not evil, precisely, Beefton is Sylvie's Shadow Archetype; while Sylvie is cautious, intellectual, and cunning, Beefton is brutal, aggressive, and straightforward.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's initially standoffish and rude towards Giovanni and Molly, even after they prove they're not the real bad guys in this situation. But once he hears Molly offhandedly mention her dead mother, he offers her a free therapy session and as he's been wheeled away in an ambulance asks if Molly really meant what she said about being his friend. He even tries to stop Mera from taking Molly's epithet, although that ends up with him temporarily losing his.
    Sylvie: (through gritted teeth) Don't, touch her.
  • Karmic Jackpot: While he starts off working against Molly and Giovanni, he quickly changes sides once the truth comes to light, and puts his neck on the line to protect Molly, even losing his Epithet in the process. Immediately after this, Giovanni (at the request of Molly) returns his epithet to him, and thanks to Giovanni claiming that Molly and Sylvie are mere hostages, he's spared any consequences for the property damage during Dr. Beefton's rampage. And, at the end of it all, Molly keeps her word to be his friend.
  • Killer Yo-Yo: When he isn't using his dream powers, Sylvie fights with a yo-yo.
  • Lab Coat Of Science And Medicine: He appears to wear one over his hoodie, keeping with his intellectual persona.
  • Logical Weakness: Sylvie's sleeping dust is spread through the air, so anything that affects the surrounding air can push it away before it works, even something as weak as Giovanni's soup-steam.
  • Meaningful Name: "Ashling" is an anglicized form of the Irish first name "Aisling", which can mean "dream". Ironically, given Sylvie's attempts to seem mature, both versions of the name are traditionally feminine.
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: He claims to study interactions between epithets and human minds. Given what he pulled on Molly, it's not hard to imagine all the invokedNightmare Fuel he might've subjected his test subjects to, intentional or otherwise. His supposed doctorate is also easily called into question, given that he's still only fifteen; on his splash screen, the "Dr." part of his name is scribbled in red instead of being the same font as the rest of his name.
  • Nervous Wreck: Sylvie is implied to be this. He manically overthinks how to deal with Indus and manages to nearly have a nervous breakdown due to paranoia. Sylvie also mentions he never feels safe.

  • Super Loser: Downplayed. He's pretty powerful and fun enough to watch, but it's clear that he is nowhere near as slick as he thinks he is. His Eye Catch in the series even makes sure to point out that the cologne he's wearing absolutely is not lending him the air of cool maturity he wants it to.
  • Teen Genius: Sylvie is apparently a licensed psychologist and graduated college at the ripe age of 15 years. He even offers to give Molly some counseling for free when he learns of her dysfunctional family happenings.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: He's not very enthusiastic about having to work with two "criminals", particularly Giovanni, only putting up with him because Mera is the bigger threat.

An eccentric and incredibly bizarre self-proclaimed wizard obsessed with making friends. Molly, Trixie, and Phoenica find him washed up on the beach at the end of season 1.

His epithet, "Soulmates", allows him copy the talents and/or powers of those he's befriended.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: He assumes that Trixie is capable of brewing real potions, not realizing their concoctions are fake. This enables him to make actual magic potions out of random stuff he found in Molly's basement with none of the regular nasty effects of consuming their ingredients, all because he thinks it will work.
  • Adaptational Name Change: His real name was originally Oblivious "Obi" Obsequious in Anime Campaign.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: His epithet was originally "Companion" in Anime Campaign.
  • Alchemy Is Magic: By befriending Trixie and not knowing their potions are ineffective, Odi is capable of making working potions. However, Molly finds it disturbing when he downs a mixture of broken glass, clock pieces, and random chemicals while claiming it’s a speed potion.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": Variant. He wears shades and his last name is literally "Shades". It's actually a hint that the name is fake.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Over the course of "Prison of Plastic", he becomes friends with Phoenica, Trixie, Molly, and Giovanni, granting him their powers and skills. He uses them to great effect while battling Graham, flying around with Giovanni's gargoyle powers and doing damage with Black Bear Paws.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Rick has purple skin and hair by virtue of being ocean race. Oddly, he seems to consider being purple worse than being dead.
  • Calling Your Attacks: After Molly comes up with her Bear Paw attack, Odi performs it himself and cries out "Bear Paw" just like her. However, Giovanni forces him to call his version of the Bear Paw something else so as not to plagiarize off of Molly. They settle on "Black Bear Paw" due to Odi's powers being black.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: As a gladiator, he was the only one who didn't get stronger over time due to his powers being reliant on his number of friends, instead getting weaker. He befriended other gladiators, but felt it was wrong to fight them and would instead intentionally throw battles to help them. He bonds with Molly over how they are both willing to sacrifice themselves and get hurt if it means helping someone.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Molly realizes that Soulmates doesn't just let Rick copy what his friends can do, but also what he thinks they can do. When he starts brewing potions using his bond with Trixie, they actually work.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: He's a bit… weird. He repeatedly makes extremely dark comments such as offering to kill Lorelai with a smile on his face, his bio lists his default reaction to an emotion as screaming, and believes being purple is worse than being dead.   • Commonality Connection: Odi reveals he became Covered in Scars as a result of repeatedly throwing fights in order to help his friends get stronger, as he had nothing to gain by winning and felt fighting his friends was wrong. Molly is able to relate to sacrificing everything to help others, and finally begins to trust him after he opens up.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: It is very hard to tell what will and won't get a reaction out of him. He's worryingly unconcerned about Lorelai almost killing him, and repeatedly makes extremely morbid comments in casual conversation, much to everyone else's horror.
  • Cool Shades: Sports a pair, and is seemingly named after them.
  • Covered in Scars: Molly learns that under his clothes, his body is blanketed with enough scars to seemingly glitter, which he gained from his life as a gladiator. He assures her most don't hurt that much.
  • Crack in the Sky: Upon making friends with Phoenica, the sky itself tears open and fires black lighting down onto their handshake to link their souls.
  • Creepy Good: A genuinely decent and noble person who typically comes across as some combination of a sinister warlock and a deranged weirdo.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a kid he made a lot of friends, which caused him to become powerful thanks to his epithet. He was then Harvested when he was twelve to fight in gladiator matches so the leader of Ocean Country could "level grind" and strengthen his own epithet. However, his friends gradually forgot about him, causing his powers to weaken, and since he would have to fight any friends he made in the arena, he made up the Rick Shades persona and purposely lost so it wouldn't hurt as much. He remained trapped there for eight years with only gruel to eat and after escaping thanks to his friends' help, their epithets eventually gave out and he assumed he had been left to die in the sea.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: His power has a lot of dark energy involved in it, whether it's his glowing black eyes when uses his ability or summoning black lightning to link his and his new friend's souls. He also declares friendship by screaming that "the pact is sealed". Typically this would signify wickedness, but Rick is ultimately a good person... if not a very very weird one.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: When discussing how to defeat Graham, Rick realizes that since Molly can do the most damage but can't reach it, they should bring the dragon down… so he can make friends with it and copy its powers. He then amends the plan to just defeating it.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: With enough friends, he could easily have the strongest and most versatile powerset in the series. His creepy, excessively bombastic personality tends to put people off, though.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He can be seen on a "Wanted!" Poster in the Redwood Run arc's closing credits, along with the rest of that arc's cast, before appearing at the end of the first season. Instead of "dead or alive", the poster's subtitle appears to say "friend".
  • Evil Laugh: Lets out an absolutely deranged cackle upon becoming friends with Phoenica.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Tries to eat anything that the Neo Trio hands him, including cell phones and business cards. According to him, anything given to him in Ocean Country was normally supposed to be eaten, mainly gruel, or a gruel popsicle.
  • Fish out of Water: Almost literally. Ocean Country is strictly isolationist and Odi spent the past eight years as a gladiator, so he doesn't understand much about the outside world. For example, repeatedly tries eating anything people give him, including phones, as he expects it to be food.
  • Forced Transformation: He spends much of "Prison of Plastic" trapped as a chameleon after Lorelai tries turning him into a newt in retaliation for him upsetting her.
  • Foil: To Giovanni. Like Rick, Giovanni is a strange, young adult man who hangs around Molly, but easily makes friends, puts up an evil front though is clearly a good guy, and uses a fake name and adds weird titles to things to sound cooler yet is incredibly genuine. Rick, on the other hand, is seen untrustworthy or even dangerous due to his strange behavior despite being a good person, making it hard for him to make friends, and intentionally uses a fake name and persona to obfuscate his true self. Furthermore, Giovanni has a seemingly weak epithet he makes the most of, whereas Rick has a powerful epithet he can't always get much mileage out of.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • His first name is put in quotes on his profile card and his last name is strangely literal in comparison to other characters with meaningful names. This references the fact that it's a pseudonym.
    • His stamina is weirdly high compared to the other characters, only matched or surpassed by those who are physically fit or powerful epithet users. It hints that, despite appearances and the grandiosity of his claims, Rick really did live as a gladiator for years.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The Neo Trio keep him around largely out of pity and are put off by his creepy demeanor and his constant attempts at befriending them to copy their skills, even fearing he'll try to kill them. By the end of "Prison of Plastic", they all become genuine friends.
  • Given Name Reveal: "Rick Shades" is a stage name from when he was fighting in Ocean Country's Colosseum, so battling his friends as they knew him wouldn't hurt as much. His given name is "Toidei Gourami", "Odi" for short. By the end of Prison of Plastic, only Molly knows his given name.
  • Hidden Depths: Outwardly he comes across as bombastic and creepy, but underneath the facade is a guy with very low self esteem, believing all his friends have either died or abandoned him and is tired of having to fight them, hiding away his real self just to dull the pain.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: He doesn't have a problem eating Feenie's business cards...until she mentions they also work as flares.
  • Large Ham: He really has a tendency to chew the scenery at any chance he gets. This, naturally, makes Molly and Trixie rather suspicious of him, especially at first.
  • Last Episode, New Character: He's introduced during the last seconds of season 1 to tease the next story arcs of the series.
  • Logical Weakness: His power relies on being friends with others to work. As such, if he is without any friends, like he is at the start of Prison of Plastic, then he's no stronger than a typical mundie. Likewise, if he loses someone's friendship, he loses the power said friend gives him as well.
  • Loophole Abuse: It appears that his main way of making friends is this. He doesn’t actually need anyone to consider him a friend, they just have to agree to befriend him. When speaking to Molly, he tells her he doesn’t have any friends despite having already made Phoenica and Trixie his soulmates by that point.
  • Magikarp Power: His proficiency is listed as a bunch of question marks because it's equal to the number of friends he has. At the start of "Prison of Plastic", he's basically a mundie without any friends and his creepiness does not endear anyone to him. However, after gaining everyone's trust and skills, he proves to be very powerful.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: Downplayed. Upon seeing bees for the first time while transformed into a chameleon, despite having no idea what they are, Rick believes they probably taste good.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: Justified. Referring to Rick as a friend risks triggering his epithet and granting him new powers, which the Neo Trio doesn't trust him with, and are thus very cautious about how they talk about him.
  • Non-Indicative Name: His epithet is Soulmates, and when he explains this Phoenica quickly assumes she is meant to marry Rick due to having befriended him. He then clarifies it has nothing to do with romantic love and is actually The Power of Friendship.
  • No Social Skills: He repeatedly makes immensely morbid comments, tries eating inedible items and likes to ask for friendship in a way that is described as offering a deal with a demon. Odi implies he used to be better with people, but after spending years as a gladiator and putting up the Rick Shades persona, his social skills have suffered. It doesn’t help that he knows next to nothing about the surface.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Rick's assurances that he's a sane, trustworthy human being don't exactly make a watertight case, what with his tendency to deliver them as a desperate, faintly unhinged scream.

  • Oh, Crap!: When he arrives late on the scene while Graham is attacking he has this reaction.

  • Our Gargoyles Rock: He's greatly impressed by Giovanni's gargoyle powers, courtesy of Lorelai's potion, and befriends the villain, gifting him with the same abilities. However, Odi is able to use it to crystallize the threads connecting him to his soulmates, turning them into giant garrote wires to damage Graham.
  • Power Copying: His epithet grants him the skills and powers of whoever agrees to be his friend. However, he takes it a step further by being able to copy whatever it is he thinks his friends can do, the point of defying the laws of physics by making a working speed potion out of what Molly believes includes paint thinner due to him believing Trixie's potions are real.
  • Power Stereotype Flip: The Power of Friendship is usually associated with Magnetic Heros, which Rick...isn't. Apparently he used to be this, but after becoming a gladiator, he put up a false personality to lessen the pain of always having to fight his friends.
  • The Power of Friendship: His epithet is based around this, allowing him to gain the abilities of those who agree to be his friend. This includes non-epithet abilities, such as Feenie's intelligence. Furthermore, he gains any power he thinks someone has, regardless as to whether his friend can actually do it. Rick can also know the location of his friends and gains one proficiency point for every friend he has.
  • Razor Floss: Soulmate connects him to everyone he considers a friend with threads typically only he can interact with. After befriending Giovanni and gaining his gargoyle powers, Odi is able to crystallize the threads, making them tangible and so sharp just touching them draws blood. The group then uses the threads like a giant garrote wire against Graham, though are unable to kill him with it.
  • Required Secondary Powers: He seems to instantly understand how to use his friends' abilities just as well as them even if he doesn’t actually know what he's doing. This includes powers he only thinks they have, allowing him to instinctively produce functional potions when Trixie is mostly only able to produce weird-smelling messes. When Molly figures out her Bear Paw move, Odi is immediately able to copy it without any difficulty.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: When Lorelai angrily directs a lethal spell at Molly, Rick dives in front of her, forgetting that her epithet makes her immune to Lorelai's attacks, and is nearly killed as a result.
  • Stepford Smiler: His smile is described as looking fake like a car salesman's and he acts overly cheerful about everything. It's revealed he's lead a very rough life and put on the Rick Shades persona to lessen the pain when his friends have had to hurt him. Odi only smiles genuinely when he opens up to Molly.

  • Super Loser: Actually has quite a powerful Epithet, but is such an interpersonal disaster that nobody in their right mind would describe him as "cool".
    Molly: Aw, he's a loser.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Subverted. Despite how absolutely sinister he sounds when he says it, Rick is absolutely sincere when he calls people "friends".
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Simply saying that you don't want to be Rick's friends is enough to stop him from using your abilities. Being too far away from a friend also causes him to lose their powers, or if they're separated by one of Lorelai's bubbles.
  • When He Smiles: While Rick almost always has giant grin plastered across his face, his typical smile is forced, something he puts on as part of his "Rick Shades" persona. Odi's sincere smiles are much rarer, and when they do appear the narration makes sure to mention how soft, warm, and genuinely kind he looks giving them. The first time Trixie sees it, for example, she's so caught off guard she can't help but turn away in embarrassment.
  • World of Technicolor Hair: As a result of his Ocean Race genetics, Rick has purple-and-red hair.

Her epithet, "Parapet", instantly creates miniature fantasy-style buildings that produce a variety of different effects, such as an apothecary that heals physical wounds or a wizard tower that fires lightning magic.

  • Adaptational Superpower Change: In Anime Campaign, her epithet was called "Feudal".
  • Ambiguous Situation: Jello deliberately designed Percy so that she'd have an Ambiguous Gender Identity, as stated in a Tumblr post.
    Jello: Percy is asexual and she identifies as female, but it was always my intention to leave everything beyond that point up to the viewer. Is she trans? Is she a non-binary woman? Is she on the autism spectrum? I don't know! Sure! She's whatever you want her to be!
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Eats a breakfast of plain toast and a glass of water every day. On holidays she adds butter... to the water. This extends to her somehow being able to stomach things like pinecones and honey-covered screws.
    Ramsey: Uh, h-how are you doing that?
    Percy: Hm? Oh! Have you never before supped upon pined cone? It's quite simple! You just have to know the proper way to milk the cone.

  • Cloud Cuckoolander: On holidays, she adds butter to her breakfast of plain toast and a glass of water. To the water. She also fears the Barkeep's spell 'em up soup, due to how many combinations of letters could be made with the "bullets" and has no qualms with eating Honeyed Snacks (read: screws covered in honey) and pinecone... milk? This goes hand in hand with her stoic behaviour making her The Comically Serious.
  • Combat Medic: Depending on which building she summons, she can heal injuries in a small area or mow down crowds with lightning blasts.

  • Meaningful Name: "Percival" is a name that can mean "pierce", befitting Percy's weapon of choice. Of course, Percival is also the name of a member of the Knights of the Round Table, which suits her fantasy-themed epithet, as does her last name "King".
  • Ms. Fixit: Another application of her epithet is repairing the infrastructure of damaged objects. It works best on architecture such as walls or doors, but she's capable of doing a little repair for non-architecture like cars.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: Her police uniform has a number of differences from the uniforms the other police officers wear, having epaulettes and longer sleeves. She's also the only one to wear a necktie.
  • No Social Skills: Talks with a very flat tone. Coupled with her dry, zany sense of humor and somewhat-scatterbrained demeanor, conversations with her tend to get...weird.
  • Odd Friendship: In the end, despite still arresting him, Percy does come to see Ramsey as a friend, even offering him a job on the police force in order to make up for his crimes, while also putting in the word to get him a comfy stay in prison.

  • Absurd Phobia: According to his Eye Catch, Ramsey hates and judges birds.
  • Action Survivor: For someone who has a two-star Stamina and an epithet not suited for combat, he makes up for this by being cunning enough to get out of the sticky situations he finds himself in (especially while getting chased by Zora attempting to both kill him and Percy). There is a reason why his Creativity is his highest stat.
  • An Arm and a Leg: He lets Zora chop off his arm so Percy can uncuff herself and create whatever wizard towers she could. However, he's able to transmute his severed arm into gold and reattach to the rest of his body so he can hold Zora in a bear hug and conduct the electricity from Percy's towers.
  • Animal Motifs: Rodents, given how his face is typically described to look like a rat or gerbil.
  • Break the Haughty: Ramsey acts like a cool criminal while negotiating, but as soon as he's put into a situation where he's at risk of being (legitimately) arrested or losing his head, he gets extremely panicky.
  • Chrome Champion: Can turn himself into a gold statue that is still mobile.
  • Con Artist: He is one, in addition to art forger. His trademark is trading heaps of gold made from his epithet for company stocks and bonds, and then transforming the gold back into dirt "or worse" days after the transaction.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He has a lot of remarks during the Western arc.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Western Arc.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: He reflexively turns part of his body into gold when he's threatened, particularly the parts that a gun is aimed at. He is also capable of turning his entire body into gold and remain mobile in that state.
  • Face of a Thug: Beyond the rather creepy solid gold fake eye, his face at many times is described as gross, ugly, and incredibly shady. In spite of that and his criminal record, however, he's not all that bad of a guy, with him being quite helpful to Giovanni and Percy.
  • Glass Eye: A variant. One of his eyes is plain white, while the other is a solid gold prosthetic. He lost the original to a mundie.
  • Hawaiian-Shirted Tourist: He has a business suit, but during the Western Arc he ditches it for a tourist outfit, since he sees being in Redwood Run as a vacation.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being inscribed himself, he makes it a point to not look down on mundies since he's seen first hand what they can do without powers. He's also a freelance artist on the side and will even accept weirder commissions without judging.
  • Honor Among Thieves: Because his epithet allows him to turn things into gold, he doesn't try to steal the Arsene Amulet from Giovanni, and this is implied to be why the Banzai Blasters, and presumably other crooks, use him to appraise their stolen goods.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Uses crayons against Bugsy at one point, by sharpening them and turning them to gold before throwing.
  • Informed Deformity: He's described by several people (including himself) as being terribly ugly and rodent-like, and Giovanni reacts with extreme disgust when the two first meet note . Despite this, Ramsey is drawn no more or less hideous than anyone else in the cast—shifty-faced, to be sure, but not nearly as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He has one face that gives him a rodent-like face complete with whiskers, but it only ever is used occasionally.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Naturally. Sure, he's a cowardly scumbag who has willingly screwed over a lot of people over time, but he genuinely comes to like and care about Percy, having a few Pet the Dog moments throughout the season. He also helps Giovanni escape, even though he has no particular reason to do so.
  • Lovable Coward: He spends most of the Western Arc trying to find a way to leave town before anyone can catch him, only to get dragged back into the fray, but his funny lines and Hidden Heart of Gold prevent him from losing audience sympathy.
  • Man of Kryptonite: When Ramsey turns his entire body into gold, he becomes immune to Zora's epithet since gold in its pure state does not corrode.
  • Meaningful Name: For his epithet. "Goldbricking" is a term that means trying to pass something off as more valuable than it is. Although he uses it in a literal sense to turn objects into gold, it could also describe his work as a forger. It's also a tad ironic, since in his first arc he spends most of his time trying to seem less dangerous (and therefore valuable in a fight) to Percy than he actually is.
    • Even his stat block is figuratively and literally goldbricked, though the extent is minor; while it shows him as Star-5 across the board, 5 of the symbols (3 in Strength, 2 in Proficiency) are gold.
  • Midas Touch: His epithet in a nutshell, though he can fully control this and change things back as well.
  • Might as Well Not Be in Prison at All: This is why he turned himself in at Redwood Run in an attempt to escape the bounty Zora's chasing. Gorou's too nice to actually make the prison feel like a prison, giving him everything he asks for. He acts like he's on vacation, with Zora lampshading how easily he could get out when she comes by. Speaking of, this is why Zora continues her bounty hunt for him, despite being incarcerated and thus, on paper, absolved of his bounty entirely.
  • Nervous Wreck: Tends to get extremely jittery whenever a situation doesn't go his way, especially during the Western Arc where he's trapped between a comically serious police officer and a dreaded bounty hunter while also pretending to be a mundie.
  • Noodle Incident: Percy, after seeing his epithet, recalls an incident where man came in to report a case of Golden Buttocks.
    Ramsey: Ah, yeah. Operation Mid-Ass.
    • As of right now, exactly how he lost his eye. All we know is that he lost it to a mundie, and the incident taught him never to underestimate them.
  • Only Sane Man: Serves as this in the Western Arc. Compared to everyone else in Redwood Run, he generally has a clearer eye for reality, frequently pulling back or objecting to Percy and Giovanni's more out-there world views. The bar fight in episode 6 pushes him to his limit, though, as the sheer absurdity of the situation is just too much to handle.

  • Pet the Dog: Despite being a criminal, Ramsey has a lot of moments that show he isn't so bad.
    • When Percy admits to having low stamina, he quickly offers her his pinecone to gain some back.
    • He gives Percy a pep talk about how her epithet doesn't define her, telling her that even without the stamina to use her epithet, she can still be more than good at her job.
    • Immediately after defeating Zora, instead of running off when he had the chance, he instead checks on Percy to make sure if she's okay.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Makes this face from time to time.
  • Pointy Ears: They add to his rat-like appearance.
  • Replaced with Replica: While he had Zora in a bear-hug, he replaced the amulet with a gold replica which he later returns to Percy.
  • Scars Are Forever: He has a scar running straight down through his right eye, with it starting beneath his eyebrow and extending slightly below the eyelid, indicating that whatever the reason is that he lost his eye, it involved being stabbed or slashed by something sharp.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Subverted. He tries to do this when Zora makes it clear that she'll come after him once she has the amulet, but he never really gets the chance to run.
  • Stealth Pun: His epithet allows him to turn into solid gold, and his name is Ramsey. He is Golden Ramsey.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Played with in the Western Arc, while in terms of disposition and energy, Ramsey is the wise guy to Percy's straight man, Ramsey is also the Only Sane Man while Percy is a very absurd person.
  • You Dirty Rat!: His appearance is literally rat-faced, what with the ears and general rodent-like face, and he's a shift sort who uses his epithet for crime.

The CEO of the agricultural organization STEM and the teacher of a speech class Molly, Trixie, and Phoenicia attend.


  • Adults Are Useless: Zig-Zagged. He genuinely wants to help Molly's situation, and even slips a little money to the family every now and then to keep the business afloat, but he can't do anything more without breaking the law and harming the livelihood of his employees, having called child services on Martin at least once to no avail.
  • Alliterative Name: Naven Nuknuk.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Despite his overall kindhearted nature and meek demeanor, there are a few peculiar things about him that call his morality into question.
    • Most notably his relationship with Yoomtah, who is all but stated to be posing as his chauffeur/bodyguard, implies may be affiliated with Bliss Ocean. His speech patterns are also very similar to how the leader texts in Season 1.
    • There's also his reaction to Lorelai's Implied Death Threat, which shows an extremely dark shift of personality that feels much more villainous then one would expect Naven to be able to pull off.
  • Author Appeal: He’s a lanky and dorkish but still rather charming bookworm, which Brendan has repeatedly stated to be his taste in men.
  • The Casanova: The media portrays him as this due to his ever-rotating roster of female chauffeurs, which even some of his own employees buy into. It's all but confirmed that they're all actually just Yoomtah in different costumes.
  • Break Them by Talking: Afraid Naven will speak of her wrongdoings to Giovanni, Lorelai threatens him in an attempt to keep him quiet. Rather than comply, Naven calmly invites her to kill him, asking if she really has the spine to go through with her threats and musing she could do it easily, and would probably rationalize it as an accident. This causes the girl to panic, while he boredly notes she couldn’t do it.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: His prologue chapter in ''Prison of Plastic" makes it clear that he's a textbook example, running himself ragged trying to help others. In fact, the only reason he does speech classes for the Neo Trio is that he happened to bump into Molly once and couldn't say no when she asked him for help.
  • Dissonant Serenity: His ability to stay completely calm even as a prisoner is unnerving and he greatly disturbs Lorelai by inviting her to kill him without ever losing his composure.
  • Distressed Dude: Naven is kidnapped by Lorelai into her bubble as she assumes she must demonstrate her evilness to Giovanni to become one of his minions and believes capturing a rich person for their money is the best way to go about it.
  • Eyes Always Shut: His eyes are constantly "squinted shut like a harlequin doll staring into the sun" (as per Prison of Plastic's narration), accentuating his meek personality, optimistic and friendly demeanor, and the fact that he's hiding something.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Averted. Despite being written as if it were one, his company, STEM, is not an acronym and is only written in all caps as a stylization choice.
  • Happily Married: His character card leading up to Prison of Plastic's release lists his wife among his likes.
  • Impossible Task: How he views Molly's goal to repair things with her sister, telling her even if his speech classes will help her with communicating, the rift between her and Lorelai is so great she's effectively arguing with a brick wall.
  • MegaCorp: His company, STEM, is one. Initially specializing in agriculture and famous for developing fruit strains that could be grown in any climate, it eventually grew into a massive business conglomerate with hands dipped in everything from technology development to entertainment.
  • Nice Guy: While it does cross over to Chronic Hero Syndrome on occasion, Naven is still one of the kindest members of the cast. Not only does he go out of his way to assist Molly and her friends in public speaking despite his many responsibilities as a CEO, but he also directly supplies the Blyndeff family with supplementary funds to keep food on the table since their store struggles to make ends meet.
  • No Hero to His Valet: For many people outside of STEM, Naven is an elusive mystery with many rumors surrounding his status as The Casanova. To the employees who know him, he's a No-Respect Guy.
  • No-Respect Guy: While he is a world-renowned and beloved businessman, he's not exactly well-respected on a personal level. His rather dorky and meek demeanor leads to even his own valet considering him "unimpressive," and most of his coworkers have no issue making fun of him despite him being their boss.
  • Only Sane Man: While he does have his eccentricities, he's on par with Molly in being the most logical. He, unfortunately, doesn't always have the backbone to see this logic through, however.
  • Papa Wolf: Gets very protective of Molly, especially after seeing her home-life situation and attempted to call child services on Martin to get Molly out of that house. When Lorelai says an incredibly hurtful thing to Molly, causing her to cry, Naven's demeanor changes to one of coldness as he quietly says to Lorelai, "You made her cry."
  • Reclusive Artist: In-Universe. He's famous amongst the press as being elusive, treating him like a "man of mystery", when in truth he's just sickly and shy around others.
  • The Social Expert: Naven points out that as a speech class teacher, he is very adept at reading people and is even able to tell exactly which parts of Lorelai's cookies are made from magic based on her reactions to people eating them.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Despite having been captured and threatened by Lorelai, who’s been abusing his students all day, Naven helps her reconcile with her past and comforts her as she cries wishing she didn’t have an Epithet.
  • Un-Sorcerer: He's just a Mundie, though he's still managed to build a powerful business of his own regardless. Said company actually prioritizes hiring Mundies over Inscribed, unlike most other businesses, believing it important to cultivate talents other than those Inscribed are born with.
  • World of Technicolor Hair: Naven’s green hair is natural, as he inherited the gene for it from an Ocean Race ancestor.
  • You Wouldn't Shoot Me: When Lorelai gets upset and threatens to kill him, Naven calls her bluff and invites her to murder him, calmly holding her finger to his head and asking if she can do it. Lorelai is greatly disturbed by this and immediately throws the cover back over his cage.

  • Attack Animal: They are this for Sylvie, being sheep companions he can summon to attack enemies. He also uses them for defense by having them surround him in a fluffy shield of sheep.
  • Counting Sheep: Their namesake. It's even referenced by one of his Eye Catches (this folder's picture), which states that he's tried counting how many sheep he can summon at once but always falls asleep first.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: Their main threat as an attack. Each sheep can only deal a small amount of damage per nibble, but the sheer volume of them can overwhelm opponents.
  • Delinquent Hair: One of the sheep has a noticeable pompadour that makes it stand out. Said sheep believes itself to be the herd's leader as well.

A Scottish, minotaur-like being that Sylvie transforms into by using his "Dream Big" attack, in which he uses his epithet to put himself to sleep.


  • Animorphism: He turns from a human boy into a hulking Scottish Minotaur.
  • Bull Seeing Red: Dr. Beefton is goaded into charging at Giovanni when the latter pulls his red cape out, even though Beefton claims to be too smart to fall for such tactics.
  • Discard and Draw: Sylvie has a wide mix of abilities to make foes fall asleep or to bring their nightmares to life. As Dr. Beefton, this versatile skillset is reduced to just punching and ramming things very hard. However, he has so much offense and defense that it usually doesn't matter.
  • Dressed to Heal: Despite the fact that Sylvie is a psychologist and that Beefton himself claims his degrees are academic rather than medical, he still wears a stethoscope around his neck.
  • Improbable Weapon User: During his fight with Giovanni in episode three, Dr. Beefton uses Sergeant Bear and Corporal Other Bear to bludgeon Giovanni for a while.
  • Foe-Tossing Charge: Dr. Beefton's main battle tactic is sending opponents flying by charging into them.
  • Genius Bruiser: While Beefton is far more aggressive and physical than the cautious, intellectual Sylvie, he still has all his intelligence and (generally) isn't easily tricked.
  • Literal Split Personality: Dr. Beefton is technically a separate being from Sylvie with his own personality, but he can only exist while Sylvie is sleeping. While Beefton is active, Sylvie is curled up inside of his body and doesn't have much control over him.
  • Living Dream: He's brought into existence from Sylvie using his Drowsy epithet on himself to "Dream Big", so not only is he near invincible to harm due to dreams not having a truly damageable body, but he has the Logical Weakness of vanishing when Sylvie is woken up.
  • Logical Weakness: Dr. Beefton is brought into existence when Sylvie uses his epithet to put himself to sleep. So logically, waking up the sleeping Sylvie will cause Dr. Beefton to disappear.
  • Man in a Kilt: To emphasize his inexplicably Scottish nature, he has a similarly inexplicable kilt.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: A Made of Air variant, as him being a Living Dream means that he doesn't feel pain and is impervious to both bludgeoning and cutting attacks. The only way to potentially hurt him is with a piercing blade long enough to stab Sylvie inside him, which would wake him up and make Beefton vanish.
  • Our Minotaurs Are Different: He is the result of Sylvie using his dream powers to turn himself into a minotaur.
  • Third-Person Person: Despite how well-read he is, Dr. Beefton still talks exclusively in third-person.
  • Violent Glaswegian: He is inexplicably this, kilt and all. Lampshaded in his info card, which states that all bovines are Scottish, and that the audience wouldn't know because they haven't spoken to cows before.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Beefton has no trouble with violently attacking Molly.
