     Komaru Naegi
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In canon Komaru doesn't have much relevance until Absolute Despair Girls. Here she appears early on as Makoto's one-man cheering squad, and we actually do see both siblings bond and interact with one another.
  • Cowardly Lion: After the full extent of Marik's powers is unveiled, Komaru urges her brother to give up and go home, believing that they don't belong in a fight like this. Regardless, she'll still follow him into danger, no matter what.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Minor example. Her ahoge pops up during her duel with Nezbitt, reflecting her recent level in badass. Though Makoto later wets it back down with his finger in a later chapter, likely referring to the fact that Komaru's time in the spotlight is at an end given the Danganronpa refers to the ahoge as "Protagonist Hair".
  • Fangirl: A huge one for Sayaka's idol group, Sweet Orchard. Watching her brother duel them and win, getting them both the opportunity to meet the group in person, makes Komaru totally flip out in excitement. She does this all over again when meeting Junko, who at that point she only knows as the leading fashionista for girls, and again when Yugi compliments her dueling.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": She gets a chance to duel herself in the three-on-one duel, with Nezbitt facing her, Mai, and Ibuki. She still fangirls over them (and when he shows up, Yugi) throughout the duel.
  • Magical Girl: Uses a Spell Counter deck against Nezbitt, which is based off her one at home (albeit stronger since she can access any card she wants in the virtual world).
  • Plucky Girl: Constantly feisty and determined, even when the situation looks bad.
  • Shipper on Deck: She is totally onboard with Makoto/Sayaka, though in no small part because it'd make her idol her sister-in-law.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Her turn to shine comes when Nezbitt challenges her to a duel, banking on her youth and inexperience. While she is still an amateur, she more than holds her own.

     Ishizu Ishtar
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: She becomes a Remnant after being physically, emotionally, and sexually tortured by Junko.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Part of her initiation into the Remnants includes being mentally tormented into worshipping Junko.
  • Break the Cutie: Chapter 61, in horrifying detail.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Ishizu has been relying on her Millenium Necklace for so long that it's dulled her dueling instincts. As such, her composure becomes much more shaken if she's forced to go without it such as when going against Makoto, whose luck wrecks havoc with its future sight.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Was completely caught off guard first by Makoto being her finals opponent instead of Kaiba, and then by Makoto's luck outright deactivating the Millenium Necklace.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: Courtesy of Junko.
  • Fan Disservice: She's part of a scene with explicit sexual girl-on-girl action...while she is being tortured, molested, and transformed into a Remnant, a la Chisa (except somehow worse).
  • Tragic Villain: We get to watch her transition into a Remnant firsthand, and it is every bit tragic as her later actions are horrifying.
  • Walking Spoiler: Like hell.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: The three Ishtar siblings return home at the end of Battle City, hoping to restart anew, only to be kidnapped by Junko. Ishizu is tortured into despair, Marik supplanted by his Superpowered Evil Side, and Odion killed.

     Shadi

     Maximillian Pegasus
  • Ascended Extra: Downplayed. While Pegasus was the Arc Villain for Duelist Kingdom—this story takes place after those events—he really didn't do much in the anime afterwards. In the Orichalcos arc, the duel where he loses his soul is actually shown, whereas he was defeated offscreen in the anime.

     Izuru Hinata
Hajime and Chiaki's newborn son, born between the Canadian Nationals and Grand Prix arcs.
  • Walking Spoiler: His existence spoils that Hajime and Chiaki have a kid and get married while still in school.
