Introduced during Battle City

     Espa Roba
  • Ascended Extra: In canon, Espa was just a one-off opponent that Joey defeats and is never seen again afterwards. Here he actually makes it to the Battle City Finals making him more involved in the Battle City arc.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Towards his younger brothers. Espa took to dueling against bullies and other strong opponents in order for garner respect from everyone else so that nobody would ever pick on his brothers. This is also why he chooses to stay in the KaibaCorp blimp over accompanying everyone else to the Virtual World.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Develops this with Gundham throughout the story.
  • Heel Realization: Has one against Gundham, realizing that Gundham uses his theatrics to give a good show and have fun, while Espa uses them to cheat. This strengthens his resolve to start winning without such under-handed methods, and he makes good on it, working his way back to the finals.
  • Put on a Bus: Sits out at the KaibaCorp blimp during the Virtual World arc to look after his brothers and to help Gundham keep an eye on Marik. Also not present for the Orichalcos arc.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Comes back with a much more powerful deck by the time of his second appearance. And that's before he develops genuine psychic powers during the Grand Prix.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He's much more friendly and less arrogant when he appears later in the finals.

     Eliza se Arc
Chiaki's former schoolmate and current rival. A student council president and a powerful combatant.
  • Boots of Toughness: She's first described in the story as wearing knee-high hard leather black boots (one of her most striking features), and would need to be a strong duelist/gamer to serve as a rival to Chiaki.
  • Expy: Of Erza Scarlet as the author admits to in her introductory chapter.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has long, flowing red hair (her other most striking feature) and can get very fierce and intense when competing.
  • Friendly Rival: To Chiaki in terms of Duel Monsters and gaming in general, when the two weren't competing with one another, they were hanging around for lunch or to share how one another was doing. Even after Chiaki transferred to Hope's Peak the two try to stay in touch. She would've been invited to Chiaki's wedding, but it was strictly a 'class members only' event.
Chiaki: Even if we're no longer attending the same school, I still consider you a friend.
  • Graceful Loser: Despite never being able to defeat Chiaki in Duel Monsters or in gaming, Eliza never let it consume her as she continued to challenge Chiaki over and over not caring that she lost every time - a sharp contrast from many of the other people Chiaki has faced in the past who believed winning was everything to them, and who only ended up succumbing to despair and/or going down darker paths in their desire to defeat her. She also acts this way towards Hajime after losing to him during the first part of the Battle City tournament.
  • Large Ham: Has a boisterous attitude fitting a player of Duel Monsters.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Chapter 96 reveals that, after Battle City (as a favor to Chiaki) she successfully shut down several underground dueling arenas via winning the land deeds in bets. Celeste wasn't particularly thrilled about this.

     Rex Raptor
  • Adaptational Badass: Gets to show just how competent of a duelist he is while dueling Makoto compared to his canon performance. Even though Makoto wins, it was not easy.
    • He is later shown competing in the Canadian Nationals and he has started to incorporate insects into his deck and runs a piercing damage type of deck, nearly getting him a victory over Joey.
  • Adaptational Heroism: An interesting example. In anime canon, Rex was hit with a major case of Adaptational Villainy when compared to his manga counterpart (who while still being a jerk, was WAY more honorable than Weevil ever was) which even led to him joining Dartz to get back at Joey. In this fic, his defection to Dartz still happens but what really sets this trope into play is his newfound Character Development during the Canada Nationals arc.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: During his reappearance in the Canada Nationals, he incorporates some Insect monsters that do piercing battle damage as a way to strengthen his deck, but also uphold the late Weevil's legacy.
  • Graceful Loser: In contrast to their past duels in canon, he takes his loss to Joey during the Canada Nationals in stride further enforcing his Character Development.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Sees Makoto as a walk in the park, only to wind up losing to him.

     Bandit Keith
  • The Bus Came Back: During the Canada Nationals and Kaiba Corp Grand Prix.
  • Butt-Monkey: His only appearances have seen him lose to Sonia and Espa.

     Weevil Underwood
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Uses an Insect deck as per canon.
  • Death by Adaptation: In canon, he survives Yami Yugi's Berserker Soul assault and was even brought to safety after the train they were in crashes. In this fic however, he gets attacked to no end courtesy of Junko egging the Pharoah which results in his body falling off the train and onto the canyons. If the continuous attacks didn't kill him, the fall certainly did.
  • Harmless Villain: Lampshaded by Junko. Weevil is annoying. He's hardly a threat to Yami. Sure, Weevil ends up sending Yami into an unstoppable rage, but that proved to be the last thing he ever did.
  • Killed Off for Real: Yes. You are reading that correctly. Weevil dies at the hands of Yami Yugi in chapter 75, courtesy of Berserker Soul and Junko egging him on to keep attacking.

     Vellian Crowler

     Mako Tsunami
  • Chick Magnet: Becomes one courtesy of Touko's So Lingers the Ocean book. Because of her book's success, fishermen had jumped to the top of all the "Hottest Men" polls in Japan. And when combined with Duel Monsters' popularity, caused Mako to be heavily desired by the female masses as if he was the "next George Clooney".
  • Making a Splash: Plays a WATER deck as per canon.

     Bonz, Sid and Zigor
  • Dirty Coward: Their plan was to scare Battle City contestants out of their rare cards and Locator cards. Suffice to say, when the trio end up crossing Hajime and Chiaki, the latter gets utterly furious.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Bonz ends up dueling Hajime instead of Bakura and are only chased off at the end, thus sparing him and his two lackeys from their canonical fate of being sent to the Shadow Realm.
  • Those Two Guys: Sid and Zigor.

Introduced during Kaiba Corp Grand Prix

     Leon 'Wilson'
Real name Leon von Schroeder, he is Zigfried's younger brother and a junior champion in Germany.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Hits this after the death of his brother. Monaca Towa gets access to him shortly afterward...
  • Shout-Out: Some of his cards are based on RWBY characters. Specifically: Ruby, Yang, Pyrrha, and Cinder, to name a few.

     Zigfried 'Lloyd'
Real name Zigfried von Schroder, he is a business rival to the Kaiba corporation. Well...was.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: While in canon he's the Arc Villain of the Grand Prix, here he's beaten by Junko in the second round.
  • Boom, Headshot!: How he dies.
  • Gratuitous German: Just like in the anime he has a thick german accent with the occasional german word thrown in. (Arguably worse because it's in written form.) In fact his final words before being killed is calling Junko a "Miststück".
  • Killed Off for Real: Junko has him gunned down after his defeat in the tournament.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Zigfried spends one duel crushing a background character and gets one big moment to shine losing to Junko and then is unceremoniously murdered by Mukuro after Junko blackmails him into giving her the Golden Castle of Stromberg.

     Vivian Wong
  • Break the Haughty: Junko takes her down a few pegs in their short duel. Then takes her down the rest of the way and then some afterwards.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Junko wipes the floor with her in their duel.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Is broken by Junko and sold away in the Middle East by her lackeys.
  • Shout-Out: Quotes an Abridged!Cell line about what she'll do if/when she wins the tournament.
  • Villainous Crush: Maintains her canonical attraction to Yugi. Junko doesn't take that well.

     Takemichi Yukimaru
A member of the Crazy Diamonds biker gang.
  • Ascended Extra: Was just a name and a face in Danganronpa canon. Here, he actually makes an appearance in the Grand Prix.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He loses handily to Zigfried.

     Tai Takemaru
Gundham's old schoolmate. Shares his enjoyment of animals, and dueling.
  • Only Friend: Was this to Gundham during their one year of high school together, being the only person Gundham was comfortable dropping his persona around.
  • Paranoia Gambit: He has learned to weaponize his natural niceness by not reacting at all whenever anything bad happens to him in a duel, psyching out his opponent by making them think he's always in control and whatever happened was all part of his plan, when it's actually not.

     Ace Konami
A silent duelist.
  • Expy: To the Player Character in some of the Yu-Gi-Oh video games.
  • The Quiet One: Said to not speak much, except through action.
  • Zero-Effort Boss: He probably would have been a challenging opponent... had he dueled anyone other than Nagito, who wins before the duel even starts by drawing all five pieces of Exodia for his opening hand.

     Ramona Shibakura
A small high-schooler with a dark reputation as a duelist.

     Bianca Bismarck
The Berlin Champion.

     London Kuriboh
A British duelist whose real name is Earl Williams. Known for his YouTube videos where he makes Gag Dubs of televised duels, complete with voice impressions of the duelists.
  • Expy: Is a fairly blatant one for LittleKuriboh himself.
  • Meaningful Name: Naturally, he uses an all-Kuriboh deck.
  • Shout-Out: Besides the obvious, he makes several references to both canon Yu-Gi-Oh and the Abridged series during his screen-time.
