Staff and Personnel

     Chisa Yukizome
  • Adaptational Badass: While Chisa was already fairly badass in canon, she did eventually suffer The Worf Effect resulting in her being lobotomized and tortured into despair by Junko and Mukuro towards the end of the Despair Arc and even has an anti-climactic death at the start of the Future Arc. In this story, not only does she get to show off more of her skills but she also attains victories on her end. To top it all off: During the final battle in the Orichalcos arc, not only does she last longer than many of her teammates and shrugs off the damage to her soul with no worse for wear; but she is also the only one left standing, even outlasting the Pharoah himself leading her to be the one to duel Dartz himself.
  • Ascended Extra: After spending the Battle City and Virtual World arcs as mainly a recurring supporting character, Chisa then serves as one of the main protagonists of the Orichalcos arc.
  • Badass Boast:
    • She delivers several top-notch ones during her duel with Gurimo. They are well-deserved.
Chisa: I lose? Who decided that? No matter what I summon, you'll take out the last of my life points? Who decided that? I decide when and how I lose! And for me, this duel...is not over yet!
    • She then proceeds to deliver an even bigger one, in the lead-up to her duel with Dartz just moments after defeating him in the RPG battle.
Chisa: You made me angry. I don't like being angry. Understand? We played your game. Now we play ours. Mine, my friends' the game the world cherishes. I beat you at your game and now I'm going to school you in mine. And know this Dartz, by the end of this duel, you'll be crying your eyes out to your daddy. Like a little, ''bitch!''
  • Badass Teacher: Being a teacher, maid, and a spy rolled into one already earns her badass points, but the kicker is when Kaiba checks her dueling record against his tournament's entry AI and sees she won without losing a single life point. This is later put to the test and proven several times during the Orichalcos arc when she defeats Gurimo for the first good guy victory in the Orichalcos Arc, and even further when she personally takes the fight onto Dartz himself.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Just because she's sweet and fun does not mean she won't kick your ass and smile while doing so if you touch her students. Gurimo, Hiyoko (who is one of her aforementioned students at that and even Dartz learned this the hard way.
  • Berserk Button: Does not like being called a 'maid'. London Kuriboh presses this repeatedly.
  • Big Damn Kiss: With Kyosuke in Chapter 85, to further cement their Official Couple status.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Gurimo thought she'd be an easy target because all he knew about her was that she's an air-headed teacher. Unfortunately for him, she's also a top-class duelist and spy.
  • Cool Big Sis: It's easy to forget, but despite her motherly nature towards her students: Chisa is only about a couple or so years older than them with her age making her qualify more as this than an outright parental surrogate. Officially becomes this to Hiyoko after becoming her official legal guardian as of Chapter 85.
  • Composite Character: With Iona, the former queen of Atlantis and Dartz's wife, due to being her reincarnation.
  • Death Glare: She nails Gurimo with an epic one during their duel in Chapter 66.
  • Hero of Another Story: She's investigating the Kamukura Project behind the scenes, which we don't get to see until she presents her findings to Chiaki and co. in Chapter 45.
  • Identical Stranger: During her group's field trip at the Atlantean exhibit in Chapter 72, Yukizome and others note the striking resemblance she has to the former queen of Atlantis, Iona. Later on in the chapter, it is revealed that this is because Yukizome is her reincarnation.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!:
    • In Chapter 62, she vows to step up to the plate herself, after Mahiru is rendered comatose by an Orichalcos-empowered Hiyoko. And she makes good on this vow in chapter 66, much to Gurimo's horror.
    • After defeating Hiyoko, Yukizome loses all her patience regarding all the ensuring chaos and decides to bring the fight straight to Dartz without stopping for breaks.
    • By the end of Chapter 82, Chisa is very much all but done with Dartz after the long and intense RPG battle where all of her teammates lost their souls that she personally ditches the Housekeeper image and throws down the gauntlet hard upon him. This is even emphasized with her discarding her usual apron and letting her hair down just to further show how much she means business.
  • Let Them Die Happy: Downplayed twice. While Hiyoko doesn't actually die, the situation is pretty much the same. When she realizes Dartz only used her, she tries to reach for Yukizome in apology—despite everything she did—and Yukizome, being the kind, caring person that she is, gives Hiyoko a hug and lets her go with the sensation of feeling very warm. Even if others would've considered it "too good" for someone like Hiyoko, Yukizome refused to let Hiyoko lose her soul without knowing that she still cared about her.
  • Light 'em Up/Our Fairies Are Different: Predominately uses LIGHT Fairy monsters.
  • Mama Bear: "Never mess with my students."
  • Made of Iron: In Duel Monsters, she shrugs off even the strongest of attacks with no worse for wear. During the RPG battle against Dartz, she endures and shrugs off the damage to her soul even after losing a lot of her powerful monsters. She's even the last one standing among the heroes, eventually defeating Dartz's final minion before officially challenging him to a duel.
  • Nerves of Steel: Chisa rarely if ever loses her composure, always keeping a clear head and a stern mind even in the most dire situation.
  • Official Couple/Ship Tease: With Kyosuke, as per canon granted the two have mainly been teasing around the idea until finally getting the Relationship Upgrade come Chapter 85.
  • Reincarnation: To Queen Iona as revealed in Chapter 72.
  • Reluctant Hero: Casually admits that the big hero business isn't her thing. Doesn't mean she'll won't accept the role and fight her hardest if push comes to shove.
  • Say My Name: Shouts Dartz's name at the top of her lungs after Gundham loses his soul to the Orichalcos. Her Mama Bear instincts are furiously on display here.
  • Slasher Smile: A heroic example. She flashes several cold ones at Gurimo during their duel, usually right before she delivers a heavy amount of pain.
  • Slipknot Ponytail: During the tensest moment of her duel with Gurimo, her ponytail becomes undone.
  • Tranquil Fury: She is completely poised and calm while dueling Gurimo, but pissed as hell. So much so, that he compares her anger to Dartz's.

     Kyosuke Munakata
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Is mentioned relatively early on in the story a couple of times by both Kaiba and Yukizome, until finally making his official appearance in Chapter 59 to actually succeed in his intentions of calling out the Steering Committee.
  • Composite Character: Per the author's notes/headcanon, he's technically one with the Persona 4 protagonist, being friends with the settings version of the Investigation Team members.
  • Nice Guy: Considering that this is Munakata before the Tragedy struck their world, he is definitely this.
  • Official Couple/Ship Tease: With Chisa, as per canon. Unlike canon, he actually says her first name (more than once) to her face while she's still alive.

     Juzo Sakakura
  • The Cameo: So far, his appearances are limited to these.

     Kazuo Tengan
  • Ambiguously Evil: On the one hand, he is trying to force Hajime to go through with the Kamukura Project. On the other, he mentions he's here because of the Steering Committee, who are more powerful than him. So whether he's acting willingly or because he's been ordered to isn't clear.
  • Blackmail: How he makes Hajime duel him. If Hajime says no, he'll be kicked out of Hope's Peak Academy.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Is polite and complimentary to Hajime, yet also casually puts him down. And the moment Hajime backtalks him, he reprimands him for speaking to his "superior" that way. He's also dueling to drag him back to the Steering Committee so he can be lobotomized.
  • Hypocrite: Regardless of his intentional malice, he previously told Hajime to be happy being normal. Now he's trying to force Hajime through the Kamukura Project.
  • No Name Given: Presents himself as The Stern Mystic during the Virtual World arc; his real identity is only implied in the duel and later confirmed in author's notes.
  • Worthy Opponent: Compliments his opponent on being a skilled duelist at the end of their duel.

     Homura Takashiro
The homeroom teacher for Class 78. An original character and graduated Ultimate Demolitions Expert (with a personality to match).

Main Course Students

     Class 76

Seiko Kimura

Ruruka Ando

Sonosuke Izayoi

The Ultimate Duelist

See Seto Kaiba's section on the Kaiba Corp page.

     Class 77-A

Sōshun Murasame

Kotomi Ituka

The Vice-President of Hope's Peak's Student Council and Class 77-A's Ultimate Cheerleader.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's very emotive (and emotional) in her day-to-day life.
  • Genki Girl: Fittingly for an Ultimate Cheerleader, she's incredibly energetic and active in everything she does, including dueling.
  • Luminescent Blush: Gets a case of this when realizing she just said she would've dedicated her win in the Grand Prix to Murasame.
  • Pom-Pom Girl: She's the Ultimate Cheerleader (and not a Cruel Cheerleader), so this comes with the territory.

Aiko Umesawa

A member of Hope's Peak's Student Council, Class 77-A, and the Ultimate Movie Director. Known as the 'Pika-Girl'.

Madarai

  • Undying Loyalty: To the Student Council President, and Hope's Peak in general.

Yasuke Matsuda

Yasuhiro Hagakure

  • Butt-Monkey: Arguably more so than in canon.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Was on a huge receiving end of this, courtesy of Sonia.
  • Demoted to Extra: Probably the biggest example out of every character in the series. Unlike the other Danganronpa 1 characters who have had a chapter or two where they were featured, Hagakure merely gets a brief scene or two before disappearing from the story completely and in such an undignified matter at that. And if that wasn't bad enough, the Prologue reveals that his spot in the first game's killing game/story and Class 78 is filled out by Yugi instead thus eliminating any remaining relevancy he would have had left.
  • Kicked Upstairs: To get him out of the way, the author retconned the numerous times he was held back in school (or at least one of them), thus letting him get into Hope's Peak one year earlier and making him a member of Class 77-A.

Miaka Senri

Class 77-A's Ultimate Cosplayer. An original character created to fill out Hope's Peak.
  • Cosplay Otaku Girl: Is the Ultimate Cosplayer (no relation).
  • Cuteness Proximity: Has what Matsuda has coined Bellusophillia - an abnormal love for cute things (similar to Peko's own response to small animals). This works against her in the Grand Prix when her first opponent is Rebecca Hawkins.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Initially appears as a random OC getting helped by Seiko. She later appears to give Serenity her first real duel, and later still becomes a participant of the Grand Prix.

     Class 75

Miaya Gekkogahara

  • The Cameo: Having graduated with the rest of her class by this time, she briefly appears in Chapter 96 helping Chiaki deal with postpartum depression.

     Class 74

Elementary School Division

     Monaca Towa
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Like Komaru, Monaca doesn't come into relevance until Absolute Despair Girls. Here she appears in the background throughout the Virtual World arc as an accomplice of Junko's. She's introduced properly as a participant of the Kaiba Corp Grand Prix.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Is genuinely baffled to the point of breaking down crying when Kaiba, after learning of her horrible home life, used his company to take over the Towa Group and transfer everything they owned to her.
  • Techno Wizard: Is skilled enough to hack into both Noah's virtual world and the Kaiba Corp Database without being found on two separate occasions.

     The other Warriors of Hope

Reserve Course Students

     Sato

     Natsumi Kuzuryu
  • Achilles' Heel: Her Koa'ki Meiru deck: Even though it plenty of her monsters are very strong stat-wise and have powerful effects, all of them requite the discard of the Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru Spell or the reveal of another monster with the same Type as theirs in order to sustain themselves otherwise they get destroyed. Same can be said for the archetype's Spells/Traps that are powerful and potent, but need the Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru to even function and are thus useless without it.
  • Amicable Exes: She and Joey used to date back in middle school, and though they still bicker when they meet again, it's light-hearted. Until she reveals she's working with Dartz.
  • The Bully: To Sato and Mahiru.
  • Composite Character:
    • She takes up the character and role Mai Valentine took during the Orichalcos arc in Yu-Gi-oh! canon - as a female duelist suffering with feelings of insecurity when compared to her peers who makes a Deal with the Devil with Dartz for more power and directly opposes (and has some Ship Tease with) Joey. Case in point: The duel where Joey obtains Hermos is even in the same area and moment where he dueled Mai in canon.
  • Deal with the Devil: Strikes one with Dartz in Chapter 62 to save her life.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She makes an early appearance as a one-off contestant for Ibuki to defeat, before becoming much more important once Twilight Syndrome and the Orichalcos arc start.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Dons a biker chick type of costume, following her Face–Heel Turn to the Orichalcos. Keeps the look (and motorcycle) after tuning good and moving to America.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Courtesy of Dartz for the Orichalcos arc.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She admits to Hajime that, while she's happy he got to move to the Main Course, she's jealous that it was him and not her.
  • I Have No Brother!: Disowns Fuyuhiko as her brother when he refuses to join Doma. She takes it back after Dartz is defeated.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: In chapter 77, she laments that every guy she's had the hots for never liked her back, or eventually broke up with her. It's even implied that one of them is Hajime.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Like Hajime, she dearly desires to have an Ultimate talent and be in the Main Course.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: She acts all arrogant and oppressive, but for the most part it is to hide the her insecurities and frustrations of always being overshadowed and looked down upon by others around her whether it be Ultimates or even from within her own clan.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's abrasive and even bullies Sato, but she's also a good friend to Hajime, having encouraged him into going to the tournament with Chiaki in the first place.
  • Precocious Crush: Seems to be having a small one for Valon if Chapter 70 is any indication.
  • Shipper on Deck: Chapter 62 reveals she's one for Hajime/Chiaki.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In DR canon, she's murdered by Sato. Here, Dartz interferes and grants her the power of the Orichalcos, saving her life at the cost of a Face–Heel Turn. After being stripped of the Orichalcos magic, her head injury reappears, though it's nowhere near as bad as when she was hit, and she survives. Afterwards (having been kicked out of Hope's Peak and losing a finger to her family), she moves to America with Alistair and Valon to help build the American branch of Hope's Peak.
  • The Dark Side Will Make You Forget: Implied; she accepts Dartz's offer to save her life, but later starts seeking revenge on Ibuki for beating her in Battle City. She also would have gone after Mahiru if Hiyoko hadn't beaten her to the punch. Most damningly, she disowns her beloved brother when he refuses to join her.
  • Villainous Friendship: Strikes one up with Alistair and Valon while working for Dartz. They stay friends after Dartz's defeat, traveling to America together.
  • Yubitsume: Working for Dartz ends up costing her a finger after she's back to normal.
