Village of Tigers is a 1974 Wuxia from Shaw Brothers, starring Yueh Hua and Shu Pei-Pei.

The Village of Tigers is known as the home of all evil doers throughout the land, ruled by their leader, Lord Hu Jiao. When the famed swordsman known as the Sword of the Southern Sky, Luo Hong-Xun (Yueh) ends up in said village, he will teach the bandits a lesson.

Also known as Shu Pei-pei's last film role before her retirement from the acting industry.

Village of Tropers:

  • Action Girl: Bao Ying-hua and Madam Chiu can kick plenty of ass and take names with ease.
  • Attempted Rape: One of the bandits tries doing this to Lady Er-niang, before Luo Hong-sun, Bao Ying-Hua and Madam Chiu intervenes.
  • Battle Couple: Luo Hong-sun and Bao Ying-hua becomes a couple later in the film, and kicks plenty of ass side-by-side.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Madam Chiu arrives with her crew of warriors to back up Luo Hong-sun and Bao Ying-hua, both which are having difficulties dealing with the rope-slinging bandit mooks.
  • Deadly Dodging: Luo Hong-sun in one of his fights deliberately tricks bandits into whacking each other with their swords while he nimbly dodge their blows.
  • Dual Wield: Madam Chiu, who kicks ass with dual swords.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Madam Chiu, disarmed for a moment, uses herself as a meatshield taking a stab meant for Luo Hong-sun. She dies before the credits.
  • High-Pressure Blood: Constantly on slain mooks, including a close-up on a mook whose throat got sliced by by Luo (played by a very young Jackie Chan, no less!).
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: One of the many fights have Luo Hong-sun flinging a bandit into the air. Bao Ying-hua then use her whip to grab an upturned table and pulls it so that the table's leg will be positioned where said bandit will land, back-first. It ends as gorily and messily as it sounds.
  • Knows the Ropes: The final battle had Luo Hong-sun and Bao Ying-hua being ambushed by rope-wielding bandits who attacks from above, in an attempt to ensnare them alive. Luo Hong-sun and Bao Ying-hua turns out to be quite adept at using ropes in combat too, picking up discarded ropes from slain bandits to kick all sorts of ass.
  • The Place: The titular village is where most of the film is set.
  • Slashed Throat: More than one faceless bandit suffers this fate at the hands of the heroes. Including Jackie Chan in his quick cameo.
  • Sword Fight: Mostly delivered by the Sword of the Southern Sky, Luo Hong-sun, a Master Swordsman when facing bandit mooks.
  • Weapon Specialization: Bao Ying-hua's preferred weapon is a whip, which she expertly uses on faceless mooks. She can also use this weapon for grabbing objects out of reach if she needs to.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The swordsman who first entered the titular village, and ends up being Lured into a Trap in the bandit-owned tavern. Despite having a lengthy fight scene he still ends up getting killed In the Back.
  • Wretched Hive: The titular village is a haven for bandits, assassins, marauders, and all kinds of killers, led by their lord Hu Jiao.
