The Northern Ilian Church has a group known as the apostles who, partnered with an archangel each, serve as the peacekeepers to the nation.

    open/close all folders

    General
  • Can't Live Without You: Because they're sigil-bound to their archangels, if the sigil-bound apostle dies, the archangel eventually does too, and vice-versa.
  • Chess Motifs: Each of the apostles has similarities to one of the chess pieces.
    • Regina is the King. The Leader of the apostles, her main role is to stay back and direct the others in their missions.
    • Basileus, regarded as The Ace and the most powerful of the apostles, is the Queen.
    • Nevin, The Smart Guy who figures out the enemy's plan first, is the Bishop.
    • Ryszarda, the physically strongest and sturdiest of the apostles, represents the Rook.
    • Faris is the Knight, with his "movements" being bizarre for the other apostles, and being able to see angles the others don't.
    • Pinon, as the youngest apostle and the weakest in many aspects, is the Pawn. This gets more overt in her wanting to emulate Basileus and numerous hints at her potential to surpass the other apostles.
  • Clear My Name: The whole squad gets accused of treason in Faith Forsaken (aside from Basileus who was a traitor at the time and actually had a part in this), and they have to work to uncover the truth.
  • Similar Squad: The apostles notably have quite a lot in common with the halidom party. Euden and Regina in particular are noted as not only being the leaders of their groups, but also very caring toward them. Even the archangels are notable as essentially being the apostle's version of the greatwyrms.

Apostles

    Regina

Commander of Five Wings
"Looks like it's my time."
Voiced by: Yui Ishikawa (Japanese), Monica Delain (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Water
Unit type: Attack
Weapon type: Blade
Debut: Faith Forsaken (Part One)

The leader of the Apostles, sigil-bound to the leader of the Archangels, Sandalphon.

  • Anti-Debuff: When she uses her skill "Tactical Skewer" while having "Purification Protocol" she can remove all afflictions from herself.
  • BFS: She wields a katana that's larger than she is.
  • Badass Bookworm: She's knowledgeable in alchemy and a brilliant tactician while also being deadly with a blade.
  • Cain and Abel: In Faith Forsaken: Part One, she is revealed to be the older stepsister of Origa, separated many years ago. While their conversation ends on a dismissive note, it's downplayed in the end, as Origa was genuinely happy to see her sister again.
  • Chess Motifs: Her skills are named for chess tactics and moves. Her Japanese name "Quinn" is even a homophone for "queen," which among other things is a name for a chess piece. Well her English name "Regina" is Latin for "queen" also.
  • Dub Name Change: Her Japanese name is "Quinn".
  • Gathering Steam: Her ability "Sandalphon's Covenant" starts of by giving herself the "Locked Sigil" debuff that lasts for 300 seconds (5 minutes) but gives her the "Preservation Protocol" effect by default. After the debuff ends she gets the "Sigil Released" effect that lets her have all three effects of "Preservation Protocol", "Restoration Protocol" and "Purification Protocol".
  • Heal Thyself: When she uses her skill "Tactical Skewer" while having "Restoration Protocol" she can restore her own HP.
  • The Leader: She serves as the leader of the Apostles.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: She's the shortest of the apostles, but she's their leader for a good reason. Nevin naturally pokes fun at this.
  • Stance System: Her ability "Sandalphon's Covenant" let's her cycle in 1.5 seconds intervals between "Preservation Protocol", "Restoration Protocol" and "Purification Protocol" effects when she Force Charges while the "Locked Sigil" debuff is in effect. The three buffs affect which additional effect that her skill "Tactical Skewer" has.
  • Status Effects: With her "Imperial Castling" skill, she is capable of not only inflicting opponents with frostbite, but also two of any other ailment that does Damage Over Time bar bleeding (this also excludes ailments such as stun, sleep, bog and blind). Not only that, but her damage output increases on enemies inflicted with any status ailment. This makes her a fantastic choice against Surtr, as his Scorching Shield mechanic requires the affliction of multiple Damage Over Time afflictions.

The Wing of Revelation
The Wintery Wing of Revelation
"I'll administer the goddess's authority!"
Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita (Japanese), Alessandro Juliani (English)
Rarity: 5 [Both]
Element: Shadow [Regular], Wind [Dragonyule]
Unit type: Support [Regular], Attack [Dragonyule]
Weapon type: Dagger [Both]
Debut: Agents of the Goddess [Regular], One Starry Dragonyule [Dragonyule]

An Apostle of the Northern Ilian Church, he and Pinon are dispatched along with Ramiel to find and secure several stolen holy relics.

During one Dragonyule, he dons some warm clothes to investigate the holiday's origin.

Regular
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He's no slouch in battle and has a tactical mind that he's able to figure out where the wroth has been coming from, but he prefers to let Pinon do the work. One Front Screen quote has him outright say he's more of an "ideas man."
  • The Cameo: Appears in Ryszarda's story to help clear her name.
  • Church Militant: He's an Apostle of the Church, meaning he works for the Angels who are agents of the Goddess Ilia.
  • Chuunibyou: Dragalia Life # 283 reveals he had a chuuni phase trying to imitate his "father," Ramiel when he was younger, much to his embarrassment.
  • Heal Thyself: Instead of inflicting damage, his Force Strike heals himself when charging.note
  • In-Series Nickname: He likes to call himself "Papa Bear."
  • The Lancer: He is this among the Apostles, being the most experienced one next to Regina, and also is the one who trains the newer recruits.
  • Manly Tears: He ends up crying when he reunites with the resurrected Ramiel in Faith Forsaken, something which Ramiel is very quick to tease him about.
  • Older Than They Look: He may be young and handsome but is actually on the older side of the Apostles as he states in one of his Collection Portrait voice lines.
"Sure, I'm young and handsome but I'm actually on the older side among apostles. THAT'S why I train the newblood."
"Chess is fun, but it's also a great way to train your mind for real-world tactics."
  • Sweet Tooth: He has a hunger for sweets as one of his home screen quotes shows.
"All this thinking makes Papa Bear hungry for sweets...so somebody spoil me already!
  • Trash of the Titans: Dragalia Life #389 shows that his room is the kind of filthy that it has a pixelated blur!

Dragonyule

"This Dragonyule, I administer Her will!"
  • Damage Over Time: His second skill "Vertex Apocalypse" can inflict Stormlash.
  • Prequel: The first 3 episodes and beginning part of his 4th episode of his Adventure Story happens before One Starry Dragonyule event.
  • Reluctant Gift: His Adventure Story is about him trying to give Ramiel a Dragonyule gift to show his feelings but is so Emotionally Tongue-Tied that he Cannot Spit It Out and ended up giving up on presenting it when Dragonyule passed and tossed it away. Ramiel finds it when he went to clean Nevin's room.
  • Sequel: This is Nevin after the events of Faith Forsaken.
    • The latter part of his 4th episode and the whole of his 5th episode of his Adventure Story takes place after One Starry Dragonyule event.

The Wing of Purity
"I administer the Goddess's authority!"
Voiced by: Kaede Hondo (Japanese), Devyn Busswood (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Water
Unit type: Attack
Weapon type: Bow
Debut: Agents of the Goddess

The youngest of the Apostles from the northern Ilian Church. She has a Sigil with the Archangel Gabriel.

  • An Ice Person: Her first skill "Sanctus Arrow" can inflict Frostbite.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She is the youngest of the Apostles. As revealed in Gabriel's Dragon Story, she got the Sigil even before she was born in order to be born.
  • Born from a Dead Woman: Pinon's mother was pregnant with her when she died. Gabriel sensed her still living in the womb and formed the pact until she was able to come to term.
  • The Cameo: She appears in Ryszarda's story giving Nevin a What the Hell, Hero? for his part in it.
  • Charged Attack: Her ability "Gabriel's Covenant" gives her a unique 2 level charging Force Strike which when fully charged does more damage to frostbitten enemies and decreases the remaining time of the "Locked Sigil" debuff by 9-13 seconds.
  • Church Militant: Is one of the Apostles who act as agents of the Goddess Ilia.
  • Extra Parent Conception: In Gabriel's Dragon Story, it is revealed that she was born from the womb of the corpse of her mother Pirene who was the previous apostle who had a Sigil with Gabriel. Pinon was able to be safely born due to Gabriel making a Sigil with the premature in-womb child.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: With the Apostles being the enemies of the Sinister Dominion, Pinon actually happens to perform very well in Master Lilith. Not because she's a meta pick, but because the mechanics of the fight lets Pinon enter the fight with a mostly or even completely unlocked sigil note , effectively removing her biggest weakness.
  • Gathering Steam: Her ability "Gabriel's Covenant" starts of by giving herself the "Locked Sigil" debuff that lasts for 300 seconds (5 minutes). After the debuff ends she gets the "Sigil Released" effect that lets her do a Spam Attack after a normal combo that heals for 5% of the damage inflicted and gives a 40% chance of increasing her energy level.
  • Hair Wings: Has wing-like rabbit ears on the top of her head.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: According to Dragalia Life #282 her voice is so bad that she was banned from singing.
  • Injured Vulnerability: Her fully charged Force Strike can do more damage to frostbitten enemies.
  • Spam Attack: Her ability "Gabriel's Covenant", after getting the "Sigil Released" effect, let's her do one after doing a standard attack combo. It is done manually by the player by tapping the screen after the combo and after one of the previous part of the spam attack.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Back when she idolized Basileus, she secretly followed him in an effort to learn more about him to be like him. The lack of info she got from doing so along with him revealing to be aware only made her more curious about him.

    Ryszarda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dl_ryszarda.png
The Wing of Enlightenment
"I shall administer Her will!"
Voiced by: Hitomi Ueda (Japanese), Rhinnan Payne (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Light
Unit type: Defense
Weapon type: Lance
Debut: Divine Deception

One of the Apostles of the North Ilian Church. She's a shy girl but underneath that timid personality is powerful strength. Her Sigil bound angel is Raphael.

  • Apologetic Attacker: Asks for forgiveness when debuffing an enemy or when a boss enters a Break State.
  • Apologizes a Lot: From minor slights to getting scared by a bird to unlocking her skills, her automatic response to most things relating to her is to apologize profusely.
Ryszarda: I'm stronger now! ...Er, sorry.
  • The Big Girl: She's this among the Apostles, being the tallest and the most physically powerful of them. Ramiel even notes that only Basileus and Nevin can contend with Ryszarda when at her full potential.
  • Character Tic: Even accounting for her height, Ryszarda admits her perpetual slouch is this, though she straightens out when wielding a weapon.
Ryszarda: I know that I hunch my back, but it's a hard habit to break.
  • Clear My Name: Her Character Story is about how she's framed for the murder of a priest.
  • The Coats Are Off: Her portrait depicts her taking off her uniform. In stories, her art switches from her demure slouching to this in action moods, and during gameplay, her model changes to have her coat removed when she unlocks her Sigil.
  • Cowardly Lion: She's one of the biggest, strongest Apostles, but she's a total coward and she knows it.
  • Death Faked for You: Nevin fakes her death so she can gather evidence to clear her name.
  • Dub Name Change: In the Japanese version her name is "Liza."
  • The Eeyore: She's a pessimist with almost no confidence in herself and just can't let herself look past that, even apologizing when she shows joy or surprise from improving her performance.
Ryszarda: I've always been more cowardly than anyone else I know—and I've always detested that fact. This time was no different. All I could think to do was run like the scaredy-cat I am...and that's what I did. I loathe the spineless woman I see in the mirror. Day after day, I search desperately for something I can cling to, forever holding back my tears.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Comments on the home screen that she's always able to get along well with animals.
  • Gathering Steam: Her ability "Raphael's Covenant" starts of by giving herself the "Locked Sigil" debuff that lasts for 300 seconds (5 minutes) and gives her a unique non-damaging Force Strike that grants the "Raphael's Steel" effect. After the debuff ends she gets the "Sigil Released" effect that lets her do a Spam Attack after a normal combo that charges up to thee stages. When fully charged also let's the attack have a Status-Buff Dispel.
  • Gentle Giant: She doesn't like to fight if she can help it.
  • Heal Thyself: She can do this with her second skill "Lentils Oracle".
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: She has a pretty low opinion on herself, as evident during the Third Anniversary.
Ryszarda: Three years already? I can’t believe you still want someone like me with you! But, thank you!
Ryszarda: Faris and Pinon are quite dependable, aren't they? Me on the other hand...
  • Hyper-Awareness: Her intuition is unmatched; it's because of this that she's able to avoid certain doom in her Adventurer Story.
  • Inner Monologue: Her Adventurer Story has her thoughts written like this, and they're quite scathing towards herself.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Even if she's a pessimist who'd rather run from her fears and avoid fights, she'll readily jump at the call to fulfill her duty as an Apostle.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Grateful for the uniform made for her, as she acknowledges that her size makes it hard to find fitting clothing.
  • The Nose Knows: Her nose is sharp enough to pick up scents, like the frankincense incense from the church that was on a villager that showed he was working with the Bishop.
  • Power Fist: Her 3D model shows that over her gloves she is equipped with spiked knuckle dusters.
  • Prequel: Her story is set before Divine Deception.
  • Primal Fear: Admits to being terrified of the dark.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's definitely the tallest female on the roster, even when she slouches. The only time she stands up straight is when she has a weapon in her hand. Dragalia Life #327 shows that she is taller than Mym even when getting in position with Nadine for a selfie.
  • Subverted Catchphrase: Spins the Apostle declration early into her Adventurer Story.
Ryszarda: In the name of the Goddess, I... I'm getting out of here!
  • Super-Strength: She's already naturally strong, but being bound to the angel Raphael makes her even stronger. For example, it allows her to till what's essentially a dead field into fertile soil.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: She's the Huge Girl next to Faris's Tiny Guy. Though, it isn't that he's that short, but her sheer size makes everyone else seem small next to her.

    Faris

The Wing of Righteousness
"I will administer the Goddess's authority."
Voiced by: Ryōta Ōsaka (Japanese), William Vaughan (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Flame
Unit type: Attack
Weapon type: Manacaster (Long-range)
Debut: Divine Deception

An Apostle of the Ilian Church. His Sigil bound angel is Uriel.

  • Animal Eye Spy: The lizard on Faris's shoulder is revealed to be Uriel's extra pair of "eyes."
Faris: "This thing serves as Uriel's eyes, so he can always watch over me."
  • Anti-Role Model: At the end of his Adventurer Story, Pinon views him as this. She acknowledges his perfectionism and resolve to do what he must as an apostle but she doesn't want to be like him if it means giving up her humanity.
  • Character Tic: He constantly grades people's actions, as well as his own. It's a habit he picked up from his "father" Uriel.
  • Counter-Attack: His unique Force Strike let's him dodge and do this if he gets attacked when he is charging it.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Despite his portrait showing him with both a manacaster and dagger, he's only ever a manacaster unit.
  • High Collar of Doom: He wears one of these not only to look intimidating, but also to guard his emotions. Dragalia Life #328 has him literally shrink into it from the weirdness of the Halidom after seeing Gloom Drake in his pot and Xander in his literal dog house.
  • Matricide: Faris does this to the Mother of his Orphanage when it's revealed she was selling orphans to an unknown organization, then tried to kill him from behind.
  • Parrot Pet Position: He has a lizard perched on his shoulder.
  • The Perfectionist: He has to make sure every action he does from combat to detective work is utterly perfect.
  • The Smart Guy: He is this among the Apostles, being the one who analyzes the situation and strives for perfection.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: He's the Tiny Guy next to Ryszarda's Huge Girl.
  • We Have Reserves: He believes this is his fate as an Apostle no matter how many missions he does in Ilia's name.
"Apostles are expendable, so I must improve enough to become indispensable."
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: He works hard to earn his "father" Uriel's approval.
"I would do anything for Uriel's approval. It is the only life I know."

Basileus (Spoilers for part 2 of Faith Forsaken)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/01d0fbd5_0446_4b17_ad46_34d0072fb616.png
The Wing of War

"I will be the instrument of her authority."
Voiced by: Ken Narita (Japanese), Colin Cowan (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Wind
Unit type: Attack
Weapon type: Wand
Debut: Divine Deception [NPC], Faith Forsaken (Part 2) [Playable]

A member of the apostles who betrayed them to aid Loki in reviving Satan to stop the Progenitor. In finding out he had been tricked though, he works with the apostles once more to undo the damage he had done.

For tropes during his time as an antagonist, look here.

  • The Atoner: Basileus has deep regrets with most of what he had done, aside from getting his revenge on Graht, which he considered Worth It. He works to undo his wrongdoings while accepting any punishment afterwards.
  • Blow You Away: He is the Wind-elemental Apostle, sigil-bound to the Wind archangel Michael.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Played for Laughs in Dragalia Life #400, where he's on the receiving end of this from Luca, who repeatedly bops him in the face with his ears, but won't allow Basileus to pet them.
  • Easily Forgiven: Subverted. While it seems like he eventually rejoins the Apostles without issue in the second half of Faith Forsaken, it turns out he's later scheduled to have Michael transferred to another Apostle once everything has settled down, which is effectively a death sentence.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: He's notably the first wand-wielder to have a completely different playstyle and effects depending on whether he's up close or far away from the enemy. When his sigil is released, both playstyles and their effects unify as one.
  • Magic Staff: He wields a wand in battle to channel his wind magic.
  • Prequel: His adventurer story takes place before his betrayal of the apostles.
  • Rebuilt Pedestal: Averted. Even though Basileus is back to working with the apostles, no amount of praise gets Pinon to forgive him for what he had done.
  • Sixth Ranger Traitor: He is this among the Apostles, as the traitor who betrayed them.

Archangels

"I will oversee this battle personally."
Voiced by: Yo Taichi (Japanese), Elyse Maloway (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Water
Unit type: Healing
Weapon type: Staff
Debut: Agents of the Goddess [NPC], Faith Forsaken (Part 2) [Playable]

The leader of the Archangels. She is sigil bound to Regina.

  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Downplayed. She's the only Archangel who shows off her midriff, but not by much.
  • Big Sister Worship: She speaks highly of her big sister Metatron and especially the work she's done, which is something she sees a lot in Regina.
  • Combat Medic: Sandalphon is primarily a healer when she isn't shapeshifted, but her unique shapeshift grants her damaging abilities that can also heal her allies.
  • The Comically Serious: She's a matter-of-fact, unexpressive and serious leader with robotic, Spock-like mannerisms, no matter the situation. This includes when she's going off on how much she loves honey on a logistics level or when discussing Halloween.
Sandalphon Halloween: Treats or tricks? Choosing between two options is inefficient.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Sandalphon has a number of simultaneous systems at work that can be tricky for a player to manage. Successfully doing so yields a powerful Combat Medic capable of shredding any endgame boss with minimal damage to the team; Surtr in particular fears her because she can brute-force heal through most of what he can throw at them, on top of atomizing his defenses. note  She is just as bonkers in the Kaleidoscape, to the point that giving her a dispel weapon enables her to take on literally anything the mode can throw at her, as long as the player can juggle everything at once well enough.
  • Dull Surprise: Her only expression is a fairly blank stare, though her pupils do all the talking on that front.
  • Emotionless Girl: Subverted. She looks and generally acts the part, but the vivid array of symbols her pupils take to show her emotions and some of her other mannerisms, such as her obsession with honey, indicate otherwise. This is especially relevant for her Adventurer Story, insisting it's entirely for practical reasons why she holds Regina in such a high regard as a leader.
  • Gender Flip: The angel Sandalphon in Judeo-Christian lore is male, however, this incarnation is female.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Her unique accent color is yellow on top of the gold present among all the Archangels, and is their leader.
  • Living Mood Ring: Her face is just short of being totally inexpressive, her emotions instead being indicated by the shape her pupils take.note
  • Mission Control: Serves as this for the Archangels, communicating with them (sometimes with several of them at once) while they're out on their missions.
  • Our Angels Are Different: She has what looks like a power switch for pupils, making her look quite robotic. Her pupils change shape depending on her mood.
  • Promoted to Playable: After serving as the non-playable leader of the archangels since their introduction, Sandalphon makes her playable debute in the finale of their story. Oddly enough though, she is the only archangel to be added as an adventurer rather than a dragon.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Speaks of Regina with even more faith than Metatron, noting her frequently as something of an even more capable version of her. This is discussed in her Adventurer Story, where Ramiel, Gabriel and Raphael take notice of her uncharacteristic blind faith in her which she tries to deny, before gradually learning to accept the view of Regina as her own individual and as a partner instead.
  • Spam Attack: She has the Skill Reservoir mechanic in the same vein as Gala Alex and Gala Audric, and being a healer, this allows her to spam her healing spells very quickly.
  • Spock Speak: Almost bordering on Robo Speak at times, though she'll sometimes use more informal linguistics when off the battlefield. Not always, though.
Sandalphon: I must revise my assessment.
    Sandalphon: Maximizing efficiency!
  • Stance System: On top of healing her teammates, "Coordination Protocol" causes Sandalphon's skills to provide benefits to the team, whereas "Concentration Protocol" has them empower her dragonform. Sustaining a force charge for a second and a half switches the active protocol.
  • Sweet Tooth: According to Dragalia Life #397, she loves honey.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: As noted above, this extends to ingame, where she'll mention a few times just how much she loves honey.
Sandalphon: Honey is packed with nutrients and can be used in any dish. It is nature's perfect material.
  • Wingding Eyes: Her pupils are shaped like power symbols and can assume other shapes like triangles or exclamation points.

    Ramiel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/210132_01_portrait.png
Angelic Herald
"My wings herald Her will and are ever yours."
Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura (Japanese), Alessandro Juliani (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Shadow
Debut: Agents of the Goddess

One of the five Archangels.

  • Alternate Self: Has two, both of which are hostile.
    • Otherworld Ramiel, the evil self from Agents of the Goddess is bent on destroying the world through the miasma in his sealing stone.
    • Fallen Angel Ramiel, the evil self from Rise of the Sinister Dominion, is spreading his own miasma due to being used as a vessel for Lilith... and failing to contain her.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: In Dragalia Life #283, he reads one of Nevin's diary entries from when he was younger and exposes that his son was a Chuunibyou.
  • Badass Bookworm: An incredibly strong Dragon, Ramiel is also the most studious of the Archangels and uses flowery language to match.
"Books permit one to gain knowledge and pass it on. They represent the very best of your culture."
  • Children Raise You: Admits in his Dragon Story that he was starting to get a hang of raising Nevin, likely the start of him starting to view humans a bit more favorably.
"Yet all the while, watching Nevin grow through my labors caused a curious feeling to blossom within me. It was not unlike a sense of accomplishment combined with a deep sigh of utter exhaustion. It was my first taste of it in my centuries of existence, and it was not entirely unpleasant. Perhaps that was why I came to find that somewhere along the way, raising Nevin had almost become...fun."
  • Drink-Based Characterization: Black coffee, befitting him being the calm (if snarky) analyst of the Archangels.
  • Expy: Physically bears some resemblance to Arch-Seraph Lucifer from Rage of Bahamut, who also appeared as a dragon in Dragalia Lost’s precursor, Knights of Glory and Granblue Fantasy.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: When Nevin and Ramiel interrogate a crook, Ramiel starts serving as the bad cop when the crook refuses to speak by threatening him and then telling Nevin to wait outside when the crook still refuses. Whatever Ramiel did, it gets the criminal talking.
  • Good Wears White: Ramiel is a shadow element dragon who dons a completely white uniform and aids the halidom party alongside his sigil-bound apostle, Nevin. In contrast, his evil duplicate, Otherworld Ramiel, is of the light element and wears all black, and his demon vessel copy, Fallen Angel Ramiel, wears white and red.
  • Humans Are Insects: Ramiel considered humans as nothing more than short-lived insects and that his interests aligned with theirs at the time. Despite this..
  • Humans Are Special: He does ponder from time to time if there is something that makes humans more than what their short lifespans imply.
  • Hurrying Home for the Holidays: Even though he already noted he was growing fonder of Nevin as time passed, the "A Gift from an Angel" Wyrmprint has him at his sweetest to make up for the past Dragonyules they missed being together for.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: No matter his view on humans, he will still work alongside them just fine in the name of Ilia.
  • Living Lie Detector: Noted in his Dragalia Mini as being able to see through lies.
  • Non-Elemental: When serving as a boss in "One Starry Dragonyule", he has no element.
  • Our Angels Are Different: He is considered to be an archangel while also being called a dragon (though this distinction came from being one of five dragons who-according to the Church-can communicate directly with the Goddess Ilia). His art at least implies his humanoid form is akin to Mym's, and could adopt a different, more draconic form if he wished.
  • Parental Substitute: He's this for Nevin, being his foster father along with his Sigil.
  • Personality Blood Types: His Dragalia Mini states he's blood type AB, in line with characterizations of AB being rational and calculating.
  • Resentful Guardian: At first, he was this to Nevin whom he was forced to be Sigil-bound to after his prior Apostle passed away unexpectedly, paired with his low view on humans and especially human children.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Engages in this pretty frequently with Nevin.
  • This Cannot Be!: A heroic example for when he is beaten in "One Starry Dragonyule".
"This has proven to be a simply terrible Dragonyule."
    "I'm sorry, Nevin."

    Gabriel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/210145_01_portrait.png
Blessed Angel
"The angels' love to you!"
Voiced by: Manaka Iwami (Japanese), Grace Chan (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Water
Debut: Divine Deception

One of the five Archangels who is Sigil bound to the Apostle Pinon.

  • Baby-Doll Baby: She carries around a Pinon-shaped doll in her arms named Little Pi.
  • Barrier Warrior: A Water Adventurer equipped with Gabriel is this. Gabriel's Love is a shield that applies when the Adventurer is healed, giving them a one-use shield that boosts their strength and defense by up to 10% and 50% respectively, and can nullify damage by up to 10% of the user's maximum HP.
  • Cleavage Window: She has a fairly low one that shows off her sizable chest.
  • Combat Medic: Her third attack will provide a heal to the team. Her second Ability, Gabriel's Favor, also activates when a Water Adventurer using her is healed.
  • Expy: She's almost a direct copy of Granblue Fantasy's Gabriel, both of them being powerful angelic beings of the Water element, with a very kind and motherly disposition towards their disciple.
  • Feminine Mother, Tomboyish Daughter: Her "daughter" Pinon is the tomboy by keeping her hair short and wearing a suit compared to Gabriel who's a motherly figure.
  • Gender Flip: The Judeo-Christian Angel Gabriel is portrayed as male, however this incarnation of him is female. Amusingly, this isn’t the first time Gabriel has appeared in a Cygames work being depicted as female, with the original from Rage of Bahamut being female, as well as the incarnation from Granblue Fantasy. She also shares in common being a water-based entity with the latter.
  • Good Parents: She's the most serious about her role as a parental figure of all the Archangels - which is a good thing, given how well she treats her Apostles, or just about anyone given her insistence on calling them children.
  • Martial Pacifist: Her noted dislike is fighting, but she absolutely can and will show off her status as an Archangel.
Gabriel: There is no battlefield I would not brave for the sake of my little lady; I am her Mama, after all.
  • My Beloved Smother: Downplayed. She can be quite overprotective from time to time towards Pinon but otherwise isn't that bad.
  • Nice Girl: Telling that she has the most overtly positive reception from her Apostles over the years compared to the other Archangels, given how sweet and loving she is to almost everyone.
Gabriel: Are you tired? Perhaps a pat on the head will alleviate that.
Gabriel: Welcome, welcome! Might you care for some tea?
  • Personality Blood Types: Blood type A according to her Dragalia Mini profile, in line with the generalization of those with the same blood type being kind, patient and generally motherly if rather stubborn.
  • Pregnant Badass: Not her, but her former Apostle Pirene was pregnant with Pinon in Gabriel's Dragon Story when she sacrificed her life to re-seal one of the Archdemons.
  • Team Mom: Being the most into the parent-child relationship dynamic of her peers, she's this to both the Apostles and her fellow Angels, especially to her daughters, Pirene and Pinon.
  • Together in Death: Pirene and her husband both died sealing away an Archdemon in a sealing stone.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's definitely the girly girl next to Raphael's tomboy among the Archangels.
  • True Blue Femininity: Not immediately apparent but she does have a slight blue tint to her white hair, with more obvious spots of blue on her true form.
  • True Companions: Her former Apostles were noted to have considered her one, with Pirene in particular calling her such as her last words. This hit hard for Gabriel, who came to especially value friendship just as much as familial love, such as in the case of Pirene's daughter, Pinon.
  • Water Is Womanly: As the Water Element Archangel and their resident Team Mom, this is a given.
  • We Are as Mayflies: Acknowledges how short lived humans are by comparison, which in the case of the Apostles, she counteracts with her love if she can help it. For added irony, Pinon - her own Apostle - is the only non-human, and a Sylvan at that.
Gabriel: Compared to angels, human life is fleeting—which is exactly why I shower my love onto the apostles.

Grace Granting Angel
"My wings beat to heal humanity's ills!"
Voiced by: Ruriko Aoki (Japanese), Kazumi Evans (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Light
Debut: Prize Showcase (June 2021)

One of the five Archangels of the Church of Ilia. She is Sigil-bound to Ryszarda.

  • Artificial Limbs: She has a golden left arm compared to the rest of her body.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She and Ryszarda save Tobias and Nino from Father Glennie in "Blessed Bloodline."
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Compared to her partner Ryszarda, she's the Little Guy! She stands at 170cm, which is 5'6 compared to Ryszarda being a good foot taller than her.
  • Combat Medic: Her skill "Raphael's Aid" heals Light-attuned characters with 108-132% recovery potency, and gives them a 30-second defense buff. She also believes healers should be able to deal damage just as much as healing.
"It's best for healer types to have some combat prowess—makes treating injuries in battle easier."
  • Cute Little Fangs: She's got a prominent snaggletooth.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She appeared in a Dragalia Mini before her official in-game debut.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: She is able to be summoned since June 2021 but her canon first meeting with the Halidom's Prince happened in the Asura's Blinding Light section of Rise of the Sinister Dominion that released on July 2021.
  • Gender Flip: Her Biblical version is male.
  • Genki Girl: Compared to all the other Archangels and the Apostles, she's easily the most upbeat and cheerful.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: In Ryszarda's Chapter 5, she relays through Sandalphon that "I'M the only one allowed to CHUCK my little one off a cliff."
  • Lethal Chef: As her Dragalia Mini shows, she loves to cook and bake, but insists on adding tons of sweet flour to everything to make it taste better.
  • Nice Girl: Far and away one of the most social and friendly characters in the game, both her becoming an Archangel and her Combat Medic role being in part of this. Her Dragon Story notes her as an "angel of mercy" after all, and a lot of her dialogue is mention of how she wants to help the world out.
  • Origins Episode: Her Dragon Story shows how she became the first Archangel.
  • Outdoorsy Gal: Raphael loves traveling, especially for the purpose of meeting and helping those in need, which she compares to as her prayers.
"Got an hour or twelve to spare hearing about my travels?"
  • Personality Blood Types: Listed as blood type O, in line with associations of blood type O belonging to outgoing and friendly people.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: She's named after one of the Archangels of the Old Testament.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: The Energetic Girl to all the male Archangels really, but most especially Uriel, given their Apostles, Ryszarda and Faris, are partners.
  • Super-Speed: According to her Dragalia Mini, she can jump rope at 300,000 km/s, or 186,000 miles/s.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl:
    • Between Archangels, she's the outgoing and boyish one to the motherly, doting Gabriel. For added points, she doesn't subscribe as much to the parent-child relationship comparatively as much, compared to her.
    • She's this as well to her timid and gentle Apostle, Ryszarda.
"I value Ryszarda's sensitivity and timidity, 'cause those things are definitely not me."
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Chocolate, as described after her bond is pushed up past level 10.
"Chocolate's great! It's easy to pack for long journeys AND it's delicious!"

Angel of Judgement
"I will teach you strict discipline."
Voiced by: Kentaro Kumagai (Japanese), Bill Newton (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Flame
Debut: Rise of the Sinister Dominion [NPC], A Dazzling Defense [Playable]
Faris's sigil-bound Archangel.
  • Badass Armfold: His default stance, primarily in his NPC portrait or his idle animation.
  • The Big Guy: Even for a humanoid Dragon, he's huge, the character with the tallest known height at 6'3. He's also arguably the most combative Archangel besides Raphael.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The big guy to his Apostle, Faris.
  • Cool Teacher: Though generally a Stern Teacher, Uriel is still ultimately a kind man who's willing to be constructive and helpful to those under his guidance, and is capable of handing out a few Pet the Dog moments.
Uriel: Well, now. It appears you will be a joy to discipline.
  • Evolving Attack: Uriel's Zeal can be powered up to three levels, increasing a Flame Adventurer's strength by up to 30% and their chance to inflict Scorchrend by up to 80%, but in turn the stronger levels last much less long.
  • Female Gaze: His muscular chest is prominently outlined by his outfit.
  • The Fettered: He believes greatly in the power of law and order to enable humanity to work together and overcome their flaws and challenges, if his words towards his fallen counterpart say anything. His Roost quotes also speak highly of order, although he does well to prevent himself from treading too far into Knight Templar territory.
  • Fire Is Masculine: The Flame Element Archangel is also the most masculine of all the Archangels.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's a strongly built, powerful Archangel in human form with the personality of a strict college professor and a fondness for reading.
Uriel: Reading imparts knowledge and comfort. In fact, I often used to read to Faris.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He takes his duties very seriously, and has also criticized Faris for having his moments of being too soft, but admits that the kindness he has because of that is a respectable quality in of itself.
Uriel: It's not hard to judge or punish. But forgiveness? Now that is a difficult thing indeed.
Uriel: Faris is too soft... But because of that, he does possess a kindness I lack.
  • Hunk: In contrast to Michael and Ramiel, Uriel is well muscled and still very easy on the eyes.
  • Loves Secrecy: Inverted. His noted dislike is people being secretive towards him.
  • Not So Above It All: His noted specialty in his Dragalia Mini is "Acchi Muite Hoi," a Japanese children's game where, after a round of RPS, the winner makes the loser look somewhere and tries to give them a light punishment (like a slap).
  • The Perfectionist: He tends to "grade" others' actions, including docking points for poor judgements and decisions. He does put himself to the same standards as well. It's pretty clear where Faris gets his behavior from.
  • Personality Blood Types: Shares blood type A with Gabriel, fitting another generalization of the blood type: Reserved, highly organized perfectionists.
  • Promoted to Playable: He was introduced at the same time as Iblis, but he didn't see playability until "A Dazzling Defense" which came out well after "Faith Forsaken" had passed.
  • Stern Teacher: He's had other pupils beside Faris, but they weren't able to handle his Training from Hell nor his constant no-nonsense attitude. He even believed that given Faris a break from his strict teachings would be nothing but a detriment toward his development to becoming a perfect apostle.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Hinomoto cuisine in general.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: In his Dragon Story, he realizes that Faris' motivation to work even harder despite failing to meet Uriel's expectations at first where others faltered in response was one of sentimental attachment to Uriel, which Uriel initially deemed as unnecessary for an ideal apostle, but acknowledging its part in Faris' Determinator attitude begins to show Uriel that such potential wasn't necessarily measurable by objective qualities alone, and humbling him toward a much more constructive and healthy relationship with his apostle.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: His Skill, Angelic Blaze, draws nearby enemies into his attack.

    Michael

Angel of Lost Souls
"Do you wish to be guided by my wings as well?"
Voiced by: Atsushi Tamaru (Japanese), Adam Trask (English)
Rarity: 5
Element: Wind
Debut: Faith Forsaken (Part One) [Boss], The Blood That Binds [Playable]

Michael's sigil-bound archangel. Initially assisted him in reviving Satan, now he aids him in undoing the damages they did.

Tropes for his time as an antagonist can be found in Campaign Antagonists.

  • The Atoner: Like Basileus, Michael is remorseful for those he had hurt following their release of Satan.
  • Canon Character All Along: He implies himself to be the very same Michael that was Jeanne's patron in Rage of Bahamut.
  • Easily Forgiven: Likely due to his status as an archangel; compared to Basileus essentially awaiting death row, Michael in the grand scheme of things just has a shift in coworkers. Even he's surprised that otherwise things aren't too bad for him.
"I am amazed at Gabriel's goodness. I betrayed her, yet she continues to invite me for tea nonetheless."
  • Gathering Steam: Michael's Favor increases a Wind Adventurer's strength by 3% up to ten times for every 15-hit combo. Eased up too as Michael extends the combo counter timer by 2.5 seconds.
  • Magical Guide: Of the archangels, he falls into this category the most overtly, as evident with Basileus over the course of Faith Forsaken.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: He's around the same height as Gabriel and the only other archangel shorter than their apostle (and in Raphael's defense, Ryszarda is huge), it's played with as rather than being highly intelligent like Uriel or Ramiel, Michael instead perhaps has the most wisdom of them.
  • Stance System: While shapeshifted, Michael creates a combat zone that switches his combat style and how Angelic Storm works; from close quarters, inflicting Poison and giving the team a defense amp, or ranged which inflicts Stormlash and gives the team overdamage, depending on if there are enemies in the combat zone or not.
