In General:

  • Hijacked by Ganon: The end of Chapter 12 reveals that their creation was masterminded by Phares himself, and carried out by the recently-awakened fifth Scion, Beren.
  • Leitmotif: The Void Battles are done to the song "Yume Utsutsu" (Dreams and Reality).
  • The Power of the Void: These are fiends and Dragons corrupted by Black Mana like Hypnos/Sylvia was and made stronger.
  • Warm-Up Boss:
    • While they're certainly no cakewalk, the Void Dragons use attacks that are noticeably similar to ones used by the (much harder) High Dragons, likely to introduce new players to the latter.
    • There's also the Chimera bosses, who are very susceptible to debuffs and whose attack patterns are very predictable for high-tier Void Bosses. Defeating them nets materials that let you craft powerful Chimeratech Weapons note , which makes it even easier for new players to break into the Advanced Dragon Trials.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: By defeating Void Bosses you are able to obtain materials that will allow you to craft Void Weapons that can unlock permanent abilities to one Elemental Weapon class, note  either to prevent certain skills from working or just a flat out damage increase against certain bosses. For example, to get Astral's Banenote  you need to defeat the Manticores. To get X Chimera's Banenote  and Frenzy Resnote  you need to defeat Phantoms and get their materials. Particular mention goes to the five Void Dragons, by defeating them you can use their materials to unlock High Dragons Bane +30% abilities making them a must have for fighting the High Dragons.
    • Chimeratech Weapons subvert this, as they are considered the ‘end goal’ for Void Battles and as such do not have any ability that increases damage against certain foes or preventing abilities from working. Instead they all have X-Element Unyielding Offense, which increases strength by 2-4% every time the users health drops below 70%.
  • Wham Shot: Void Agni, Nidhogg, and Zephyr all show at the end of Chapter 12, accompanied by Phares.

    Wandering/Gust/Scalding Shroom
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shrooms_5.png
We ain't Fungais
  • Asteroids Monster: They start off as a giant mushroom fiend that splits into three, then into nine as they lose health.
  • Blow You Away: Gust Shroom is of the Wind Element.
  • Casting a Shadow: The purple mushrooms that Wandering Shroom spawns have the Shadow Element.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: By the end of the fight, they becomes so tiny that avoiding their attacks become pathetically easy.
  • Dash Attack: One of their attacks are charge attacks which are unblockable and need to be dodged out of the way.
  • Fungus Humongous: This mushroom is as big as a Dragon, until it starts dividing.
  • Light 'em Up: Wandering Shroom is Light Element.
  • Poisonous Person: The purple mushrooms it spawns can attack with spores that inflict Poison.
  • Status Effects: One of its gimmicks is to inflict two of these depending on the fight. The yellow mushroom can inflict Paralysis, the purple mushrooms can inflict Poison, the green mushrooms inflicts Sleep, and the red mushrooms inflict Burn.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Its primary gimmick is something that's easily manageable to let you know that Void Bosses will have some twist to them.

    Steel/Obsidian/Amber Golem
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/golem_13.png
Though it moves like a living thing, anyone can tell it lacks a soul... not to mention mercy.
  • Casting a Shadow: The Obsidian Golem is of the Shadow element and can inflict Poison.
  • Damage Reduction: Getting hit by it inflicts the Dull effect, which makes you do less damage to it even if your Adventurer is the opposite element and has Thaumian's Bane, which does 25% extra damage to Golem-type monsters.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: It likes to use ground pounds and drop boulders on the party attacking it.
  • Light 'em Up: The Amber Golem is of the Light Element, but it leans more towards the Shock and Awe side as it can cause Paralysis status.
  • Made of Iron: Very literally in this case.
  • Playing with Fire: The Steel Golem is of the Fire Element and can cause the Burn status.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The Golems can be easily disabled for quite a long time as long as you use the right status effect. Steel Golem can be frozen in place, while the Obsidian Golem is weak to being Paralyzed or Stunned.

    Raging/Greedy/Smoldering/Proud Manticore
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/manticore_6.png
One of the world's oldest and deadliest creatures, I used to feel excitement at times like this, but now the beast is just in my way.
  • Dark Is Evil: As a Void fiend and with Shadow as its Element, the Raging Manticore plays this trope straight.
  • Death from Above: One of their attacks has it rain elemental balls from above.
  • Interface Screw: Once they enter Overdrive, none of their attacks are indicated by the attack radar, requiring players to pay close attention to their animations and sounds to figure out which attack they'll use next.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Or three of them, at least, with the Proud, Raging, and Greedy Manticores. The Smoldering Manticore seems to be the odd one out, but it could refer to Wrath depending on how the word is used.
  • Status Effects: Each Manticore version inflicts Poison, but the different versions have their own additional effects.
    • The Raging Manticore inflicts Curse.
    • The Greedy Manticore inflicts Freeze.
    • The Smoldering Manticore inflicts Burn.
    • The Proud Manticore inflicts Paralysis.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Fury makes it so that once they enter Overdrive, the gauge doesn't decrease and the attack radar disappears as they attack faster and harder. However, if you're equipped with Weapons that have Fury Penetrator, you can decrease the gauge like usual.
  • Violation of Common Sense: The most reliable way to avoid their elemental rain is to stand right next to them.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The best way to defeat the Manticores' unpredictable natures when entering Overdrive when the attack radar disappears? Constantly stunning them. The Smoldering Manticore can be stunlocked by Adventurers with Freeze.

    Blazing/Violet/Lambent/Cerulean Ghost
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ghosts_2.png
Those are no bedsheet ghosts
  • Casting a Shadow: Violet Ghost is Shadow Elemental and can inflict Curse.
  • Damage Reduction: Takes much less damage from ranged attacks.
  • Light 'em Up: Lambent Ghost is of the Light Element and can cause Blindness.
  • Making a Splash: Being of Water Element, Cerulean Ghost uses Water based attacks and can inflict Bog.
  • Playing with Fire: As expected from Blazing Ghost's name, it's of the Flame Element and can cause Stun.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Has a Ranged Resistance ability that requires a bit of preparation due to the inability to use any Bow, Wand, or Staff Adventurer to deal damage, in order to encourage you to study future Void Bosses so you can properly deal with them.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Any superior-element melee Adventurer worth their salt can take on the Ghosts easily.

    Frost/Twilight Hermit
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hermits_9.png
I'm a grumpy old troll, but I don't live under a bridge.
  • An Ice Person: The Frost Hermit casts out ice magic as well as inflicting Freeze.
  • Casting a Shadow: The Twilight Hermit is of the Shadow Element.
  • Me's a Crowd: Once it hits Overdrive, the Hermits split into multiple copies, though once the main body is killed, the rest die. The clones can be killed more quickly if the user has a Weapon with Copy Punisher.
  • Status Effects: The Frost Hermit can inflict Bog and Freeze, although the latter can only be done with a specific attack during Overdrive. The Twilight Hermit, meanwhile, can inflict Poison.
  • Was Once a Man: The description of the Weapons forged with Hermit Materials (especially the Axe line, known as the “Reclusive Relic”, and the Lance line, known as the “Solitary Desire”) strongly implies that Hermits used to be human mages (or at least neutral Goblins), but had their minds and bodies alike warped by prolonged exposure to Black Mana over their long self-imposed exile. Notably, due to their tragic Demihuman nature (which could qualify slaying them as a Mercy Kill), they’re one of the only Void Bosses not to have the description of their Weapon claim it is made from their corpse, instead claiming it is cobbled together from their favorite personal belongings.
    • ”A lance hewn from the effects of a Hermit. The poor man’s lingering attachment continues on in weapon form, and is said to murmur gently in the dark as it seeks new prey.” ~Description of Solitary Desire

    Catoblepas Anemos/Fotia/Skia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cotablepas_2.png
Look, look into my Eye.
  • Blow You Away: Anemos is of the Wind Element and inflicts Stun.
  • Casting a Shadow: Skia is of the Shadow Element and inflicts Poison.
  • Degraded Boss: Anemos appears as part of Fallen Angel Gabriel's fight.
  • Full-Boar Action: It's a giant boar fiend tainted by Black Mana.
  • Playing with Fire: Fotia is of the Flame Element and can inflict Burn.
  • Taken for Granite: All three Catoblepas' can Petrify anyone unlucky enough to get hit by its attacks, unless they have unlocked the Petrify Resistance ability to nullify it.

    Eolion/Infernal/Abyssal Phantom
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phantoms_7.png
I don't think there's anyone inside...
  • Animated Armor: It is an armor wearing phantom.
  • Blow You Away: Eolion Phantoms use wind and tornadoes to fight. Its name is also based off of the word "Eolian," the US spelling of "Aeolian" which means "relating to or arising from the action of the wind."
  • Flunky Boss: Has some Ghouls and Skeletons fight alongside him.
  • Life Drain: Its attacks will heal itself based off of the damage dealt towards you. Using Weapons with the Soul Eater Resistance ability can nullify this.
  • Making a Splash: The Abyssal Phantom is of the Water Element and can inflict Bog.
  • Playing with Fire: Infernal Phantom is of the Flame Element and uses fire whirls to attack.
  • Stone Wall: Not the Phantoms, but rather their many minions. Thanks to the Phantoms' Spectral Shield ability, the damage the mooks receive will be reduced significantly. Only by unlocking the correct ability can this be nullified. Though thanks to the previously mentioned Life Drain and there being a pretty low cap on total enemies, and just how expensive unlocking the abilities are, it's often not worth unlocking said abilities unless you have a lot of money to throw around.

    Void Zephyr
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/void_zephyr.png
The Stagnant Guardian

  • Blow You Away: He uses wind and tornado attacks.
  • Damage Reduction: He has Dull, which makes it so your attacks do less damage even if you're Flame Element, unlocking Dull Resistance can prevent this.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Fighting this means having to knock some sense back into one of your own Dragons corrupted by Black Mana. Thanks to Ranzals conviction at the end of chapter 17 he gets better.
  • Status Effects: His tornadoes inflict Sleep, but they only have a 50% chance of happening, so an Adventurer with at least 50% Sleep Resistance is immune.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Quite a few of his fight mechanics turn him more into one for High Midgardsormr.
  • Took a Level in Badass: You fight another Void Zephyr at the end of Chapter 23, and this one is more dangerous thanks to the increased concentrations of black mana expelled by Xenos.

    Void Agni
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/void_agni.png
The Ferocious Firelord

  • Damage Reduction: Void Agni's Skill Resistance greatly reduces the damage of Skills if the user doesn't unlock Skill Resistance Penetrator.
  • Degraded Boss: A Non-Elemental version of Void Agni is summoned by Jaldabaoth as part of his boss fight. As long as Void Agni is on the field, Jaldabaoth can't be hurt.
  • Geo Effects: Some of Void Agni's attacks will scorch the ground for a while, damaging anyone that stands on it.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: This is another case of fighting one of your own Dragons corrupted by Black Mana. He is freed thanks to the determination of Laxi and Mascula to stand against Ayaha and Otoha's belief of what freedom is.
  • "Instant Death" Radius: Maybe not instant death, but Void Agni's Scorching Air will rapidly damage anyone not immune to it if they stand too close to Agni. By unlocking Scorching Air Resistance, you can prevent this.
  • Playing with Fire: The Firelord isn't a title for show.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: His look after being corrupted by Black Mana.
  • Shoot the Medic First: After his stun attack, he fires an attack that hones in on the farthest target, usually the healer.
  • Status Effects: Some of his attacks can inflict Stun.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: The volcanoes, and hiding from them to avoid the instant death attack, calls to mind High Brunhilda.

    Void Poseidon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/void_poseidon.png
The Hollow Lakelord

  • Damage Reduction: Void Poseidon has Skill Resistance. By unlocking Skill Resistance Penetrator, you can prevent this.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Not Poseidon himself, but his corruption highlights what Beren is capable of as the Alberian Royalty's darkest secret.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: It has been mentioned prior to his debut that he was another Dragon that the Empire managed to capture and infuse Black Mana with. This is seen much more clearly at the end of Chapter 13 where we see him get corrupted. But he gets better at the tail end of Chapter 16 thanks to Elisanne and Zena.
  • Making a Splash: He is the ruler of the seas, even when warped by Black Mana.
  • Status Effects: He inflicts Freeze with some of his attacks.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: He's one to High Mercury with summoning damage protection bubbles that protect the party from an unblockable waterfall attack.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Void Poseidon's Whirlpool will slow down Adventurers that enter his radius and pull them close to him, which can make it easier for melee attackers to keep spamming attacks. His Whirlpool can be negated with the right ability, but it's not so problematic that anyone that knows how to use it to their advantage can go into battle without that Ability.

    Void Jeanne d'Arc
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/void_jeanne.png
The Sacrilegious Saint
Voiced by: Megumi Han (Japanese) , Lexi Klein (English)

  • Boss Remix: Her Void Battle gets a special remix which involves some violins building up during the first verse.
  • Enemy Within: Reborn Jeanne's Dragon Story reveals her Void counterpart is still a shadowy part of her who will never let her forget all the atrocities she committed while under the black mana's corruption.
  • Excessive Evil Eyeshadow: Has purple eyeshadow in her corrupted form.
  • Fallen Hero: A benevolent Dragon, based on a historical saintly figure, becoming corrupted qualifies her as this.
  • Flunky Boss: After performing Lightning Salvo the first time, she summons light-elemental Dyrenell knights and mages with high durability to aid her. However, this happens only once.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Another of your Dragons that has given way to Black Mana's corruption. It takes Luca's undying will to fight against Kai Yan for it to stick.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Her armor in this form has turned from blue and white to gold and black.
  • Light Is Not Good: Being corrupted by Black Mana has made one of the most benevolent Dragons this. Seeing Luca hold against Kai Yan in Chapter 18 inverts it.
  • Made of Iron: Her Divinity status makes it where, unless someone has an the Anti-Divinity ability unlocked, once she goes into Overdrive, it won't go down.
  • Sadist: Her featured Wyrmprint, Beautiful Nothingness, describes how she thrives on her victims' resentment and hatred, goading them to strike her down while she brings suffering to them. This is a huge contrast to her previous noble and kind self.
  • Shock and Awe: She throws down lances that send AOE lightning down.
  • Status Effects: She inflicts Blindness with her lightning attacks.

    Void Nidhogg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/void_nidhogg.png
The Ruinous Root-Gnawer

  • Dark Is Evil: A Dragon aligned with the Shadow Element now warped by Black Mana.
  • Degraded Boss: A Non-Elemental Void Nidhogg can be summoned by Jaldabaoth during his boss fight.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: The fifth Dragon now turned against you by Black Mana. Cleo's resolve to follow Euden helps him break free from the black mana's control and help Cleo strike Tartarus down and supposedly have him Dragged Off to Hell.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Ironically, Void Nidhogg can be afflicted with Poison.
  • Poisonous Person: He inflicts Poison, given that he is also a Dragon that rules over death.
  • Status Effects: He inflicts Poison and Enervation, which greatly decreases Adventurers' Strength and can stack. Only with Enervation Resistance can you prevent this from happening.
  • Unblockable Attack: Dark Detonation is a map filling attack that reduces everyone to near death, like a High Dragon starting a battle. The only way to stop it from happening is to immediately put him on Break status or Stun him. Thankfully, it cannot kill due to it dealing damage equivalent to 90% of an Adventurers' current HP.

    Volcanic/Ebon/Tempest/Tidal/Luminous Chimera
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chimeras_0.png
Unleash the beast!

  • Blow You Away: The Tempest Chimera is of the Wind Element.
  • Casting a Shadow: The Ebon Chimera is of the Shadow Element.
  • Forced Sleep: The Tidal Chimera can cause Sleep status.
  • Infinity -1 Sword: By using materials obtained from the Chimeras, you can create the Chimeratech Weapons, which are more powerful than Unrefined High Dragon Weapons, making them an amazing way of increasing one's Might before facing either the High Dragons or the Agito and getting their Infinity Plus One Weapons.
  • Interface Spoiler: Back before Version 2.0, the Phantom's Weapons were used to create Chimera’s Bane Weapons, allowing players to find out the names of the Chimeras in advance.
  • Light 'em Up: The Light Chimera is of the Light Element. However, it leans more into the Shock and Awe side of the element, in addition to causing Paralysis.
  • Making a Splash: Tidal Chimera is of the Water Element and can cause Bog status. The Luminous Chimera also has the ability to inflict Bog with its tail attack.
  • Playing with Fire: The Volcanic Chimera, for pretty obvious reasons. It along with the Tempest Chimera can also Burn.
  • Poisonous Person: The Volcanic and Ebon Chimeras have an attack where they spew venom from the snake head that inflicts Poison.
  • Temporary Blindness: The Ebon Chimera can causes Blindness.
  • Theme Naming: All the Chimeratech weapons share a theme between their elements. Flame weapons are named after military ranks, Water after creatures from the Cambrian Explosion, Wind after herbs, Light after Stars, and Shadow after musical terms.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: A trait it shares with its Manticore counterpart. As it is very easy to causes statuses on them, especially the Crowd Control statuses such as Freeze, Stun, Bog, Sleep, and Blindness, which take a while for the Chimeras to become resistant to, unlike other bosses who gain a resistance extremely quickly.
