Main Characters

    Barney Guttman

Barney Guttman

Voiced by: Zach Barack (Dead End: Paranormal Park), Zack Pearlman (Dead End)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/barney_guttman_full_body_better_quality.png

The de facto protagonist of the series, Barney is a Jewish trans boy who ran away from home to live in Phoenix Park.

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Barney's gender could have been cisgender male in the original short, but he's confirmed to be a transgender male in the comics and cartoon series.
  • Adaptational Job Change: In the comics, a janitor. In the tv show, a security guard.
  • Ambiguously Gay: He hints at being gay in the original short but confirms it in the comics and cartoon series.
  • Author Avatar: Is in many ways similar to the series creator Hamish Steele, sometimes even drawn with his signature beard in gags.
  • Back from the Dead: Happens twice in Dead End: Paranormal Park. In episode 5, Hox kills Barney on his game show and Norma and Pugsley use their lifeline to revive him. In episode 18, Barney is crushed by a chandelier but the gang manage to get his ghost back into his body. Both times Barney notes he'll need to see a therapist about that. He also gets revived in DeadEndia by Pugsley.
  • Big Beautiful Man: Is described as such and has a few male and female admirers.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Loves his little brother Patrick, and in Dead End: Paranormal Park he is the only member of his family he doesn't feel resentment towards.
  • Big Fun: he has a wide body type, and is quite a social person and a good guy.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: In episode 7 of Dead End: Paranormal Park he calls out his mom and dad for acting like he should be thanking them for accepting him when a parent accepting their child is the bare minimum of what a parent is supposed to do. He also calls them out for not standing up to his transphobic grandmother when she was insulting him at their family dinners.
  • Cowardly Lion: Barney may be spooked quite easily, but he is as brave to stand up for others, as he is loyal to his friends.
  • Foil: Compared to the introverted and shy Norma, Barney is a positive, lively, kind, if somewhat shy to those he’s into, more specifically Logan.
  • Former Teen Rebel: In DeadEndia, Barney gets sent to detention for beating up the wrestling coach when they didn't let him try out for the team on account of the school having him registered as a girl. He's a much more mellow character now that he's out of high school.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Barney is the main protagonist of the show and owns a pug named Pugsley whom he 100% adores and would do anything to keep safe and happy.
  • I Can't Believe a Guy Like You Would Notice Me: "Just Some Guy", his musical number in episode 9 of Paranormal Park has him admitting all his feelings for Logs before sadly ending it with his belief that Logs would only ever see him as "just some guy." When Barney does ask Logs out, he's amazed to find out not only is his crush requited, but that Logs has been trying to work up the nerve to ask Barney out all summer.
  • Nice Jewish Boy: Barney is revealed in later episodes to be Jewish and he is very much a loyal kind-hearted young man.
  • Nonconformist Dyed Hair: Barney is a trans man who wears a bright neon blue undercut.
  • The Runaway: In Dead End: Paranormal Park he explicitly runs away and lives in the titular theme park, and episode 4 hints that he's run off before when the pressures of his family became too much.
  • Sizable Semitic Nose: Partially averted, particularily when it comes to the "hooked" part of the trope, but Barney still has the most sizable schnozz of the main cast.
  • Trans Tribulations: His grandmother gave him a lot of misery over being trans and his parents are technically accepting but often failed to stand up for him around her. This reached the point that he decided to run away to Phoenix Park to live away from them.
  • Troubled Teen: Barney is implied in Season 2, Episode 8 of Dead End: Paranormal Park to be suicidal. He also has visible self-harm scars in some scenes in DeadEndia. In both the show and the comics, he ran away from home because his parents didn't provide an environment he felt safe in.

    Norma Khan

Norma Khan

Voiced by: Kody Kavitha (Dead End: Paranormal Park), Cameron Goodman (Dead End)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/norma_khan.png

An autistic Pakistani-American girl who works with Barney at Phoenix Parks. She's Pauline Phoenix's number one fan.

  • Abusive Parents: Norma's father is explicitly said to be an abuser in DeadEndia, however he drowned before he could affect Norma as much as Ananya.
  • Accidental Murder: In the comics, her offering Pugsley to Temeluchus causes his soul to be pushed out unable to return to his body.
  • Adaptational Job Change: In the comics, is a tour guide. In the show, a security guard but becomes a tour guide by the end of Season 2.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: In Dead End and DeadEndia she is more grumpy, easily annoyed, and bored. By contrast in Dead End: Paranormal Park she is giddier and a total fangirl for Pauline Phoenix. Though in the cancelled Season 3, would've been a lot closer in terms of personality and appearance to her Deadendia counterpart.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Norma idolizes Pauline Phoenix, having absorbed every piece of media she's ever been in, so working at Phoenix Parks as a security guard is a dream job for her. She's devastated to find out the person she worshipped is a monster.
  • Back from the Dead: Norma dies and comes back to life many times in DeadEndia. She isn't properly resurrected the first time, causing her to die and repossess her body over and over.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • In the span of just 10 episodes, Norma gets put through the wringer quite a lot. "Trust Me" and "The Pauline Phoenix Experience" in particular. The former episode has Norma being forced to be jostled around in a circle with a bunch of the Phoenix Park staff holding hands and being unable to let go all while their "life coach" mockingly asks why Norma is so terrified, eventually causing Norma to run off crying.
    • In "The Pauline Phoenix Experience", Norma and the others get sucked into a possessed television that transports them into Pauline Phoenix's movies and tv shows, one of which being a lost life insurance ad that one of the custodians and Pauline's former stunt double and friend Barborah was trying to find for thirty years. In said ad, Norma (and the gang) actually see Pauline fall to her death and possess Barborah. When they get back to the real world, Courtney gushes about how she might like Pauline now because of how successfully "her idiot fans lapped up her every word" and how she stole women's lives from them for years, all this causes Norma to drop to the floor and sob.
  • Character Tics: When Norma's scared or stressed out, she drops to the floor and covers her ears with her hands.
  • Disappeared Dad: In Season 2, we see that Norma's mother is a single parent, with her father apparently being dead.
  • Endearingly Dorky: In Parnormal Park where her obsessive love of anything related to Pauline Phoenix makes her incredibly enthusiastic and adorable.
  • Foil: Compared to the lively, social Barney, she is a shy, socially anxious, but loyal to those she cares for.
  • Good Girl Gone Bad: Norma appears to be headed down this route at the end of season 2, pledging herself to the demonic royalty to get revenge against the angels. They appear willing to accept. Though neither side is exactly heroic.
  • Human-Demon Hybrid: In season 2 of the Original Run, its revealed that she's quarter demon with her father being a member of the Cult of Princes.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In most installments, she is easily irritable but cares deeply about her friends. Gone within Dead End: Paranormal Park, where at worst she initially thought Barney was stealing her job and quickly got over it.
  • No Social Skills: Norma has severe anxiety when interacting with others to the point where her greatest fear is just being out in the world among people.
  • Not Brainwashed: She quickly figured out that she, Barney, Pugsley, and Courtney were in a tape, but played dumb to avoid having to admit the truth about Pauline.
  • Revenge: After Pugsley dies saving his friends from Fingers, Norma seeks out Temeluchus and Zagan, wanting their help in striking back at the Angels for what happened to Pugsley.
  • Skewed Priorities: She and Barney are tricked into coming to the park for a job interview as a ploy to find a vessel for Temeluchus. When everything is resolved, Norma doesn't think twice about accepting Courtney's offer to give her a job for real, being too ecstatic that she actually got hired to care about the sketchiness.
  • Too Spicy For Yog Sogoth: When Harmony tries to eat Norma's fear, he eventually begins crying out for it to stop as the sheer amount of anxiety she holds eventually causes him to explode.

    Pugsley

Pugsley

Voiced by: Alex Brightman (Dead End: Paranormal Park), Stefan Marks (Dead End)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pugsley_series.png

Barney's dog who gets the ability to speak thanks to a Demonic Possession.

  • Acrofatic: Despite slightly having the circumference of a bowling ball, (if the doggy door is to be believed) Pugsley is quite speedy and agile when the situation calls for it.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: The Pugsley from Dead End was a cowardly pervert. The Pugsley from DeadEndia and Dead End: Paranormal Park clearly loves Barney and is much more decent.
  • Badass Adorable: Pugsley's a dead-ringer of this trope for sure. He's an adorable, roly-poly, ever-faithful and ever-loving pug who speaks in an adorkable voice, is a talented singer, and wears a cute little fez who can also conjure magic to fight demons and has a small part of the Chieftain Of Torment living inside him that he can bring to the surface.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While he's beyond any doubt the sweetest character in the show, Pugsley will easily thrash those who harm and bully his family and friends. In episode 8 after Norma breaks down in tears after learning that the celebrity she idolized and fixated on her '''whole life''' turned out to be a deceitful, body-stealing narcissist who only cares about her legacy, made worse by Courtney going on and on about how dumb people can be to get wrapped up in celebrity's lies, Pugsley yaps angrily at Courtney and says she needs to back off because Norma is heart-broken. Later on in episode 10, Pugsley (under partial control of Temeluchus) blasted a stone barricade in front of Zagan to save Patrick from being eaten.
  • Canine Companion: Pugsley is one to Barney, Norma, Patrick and to an extent Courtney.
  • Cowardly Lion: He gets terrified by the demonic ongoings and minions at Phoenix Park, but Pugsley will not hesitate to come to the rescue for his beloved Barney.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Being a pug, he naturally has these.
  • Demonic Possession: Is able to speak and use magic thanks to a demon possessing him. The Wanderer is a future version of him where the possession has gone too far and he turned evil.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: When Barney walked out of the house in response to his mom inviting his transphobic grandmother over for dinner after another family dinner where his grandmother cruelly berated him for being trans and his parents did nothing to stand up for him, Pugsley barked in disapproval and followed Barney out the door.
  • Furry Reminder: After gaining sentience and the ability to talk, walk upright and perform magic, Pugsley still shows doglike quirks every so often. He still loves being petted and having his belly rubbed, he whimpers when scared and as seen in episodes 2 and 3, Pugsley will paw at doors when he wants to go out. His doglike habits also lead to an Out-of-Character Moment when he angrily barks at Courtney when she was laughing about how people could be stupid enough to buy Pauline's act while Norma was sobbing over how the celebrity she idolized her whole life was conning the world by possessing women to achieve eternal youth and fame. Even the way he stands and walks with his arms in front of his body is highly reminiscent of how real dogs stand when on their hind legs.
  • Have You Tried Not Being a Monster?: In Dead End: Paranormal Park his status as a talking dog is uniquely given parallels to Barney's own gay and trans experience.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • He got possessed to save Barney from becoming a vessel for Temeluchus. Thankfully, 95% of Temeluchus' soul got trapped in a photo, reviving Pugsley, who can now talk, stand and walk on two legs, cast magic and utilize his front paws as hands.
    • In DeadEndia he destroys the photo of Temeluchus, killing off The Wanderer for good as well as himself. The last panels of the comic are his funeral (barring the guest star comics).
    • In the season 2 finale of Paranormal Park, he and the Watcher allow Fingers to mortally wound them, knowing that severing Pugsley's "destiny" of being the greatest sorcerer on the Multi-Plane will cause Fingers to be killed by his master, thus saving Pugsley's friends.
  • Killed Off for Real:
    • In DeadEndia's continuity he does a Heroic Sacrifice against the Wanderer and dies for good.
    • He also meets his end under similar circumstances in "Paranormal Park".
  • Only Mostly Dead: While we do see Pugsley succumb to his injuries in the season 2 finale, just before the credits, the audience is shown a POV from Pugsley opening his eyes to a red sky, similar to that of the In-Between. Pugsley says "This is weird. I thought this was the end". Given the fact that Pauline comes back from the dead as well as the mascots from the 2nd episode "The Tunnels", it's possible that Pugsley could also be resuscitated.
  • Punny Name: He's a pug literally named Pugsley, it doesn't get more pun-based than that.
  • Temporal Duplication: In the second book, its revealed that the case Danny was working on was about Pugsley who accidentally duplicated himself when he took his life to stop the Watcher
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Barney, Patrick, Norma and eventually Courtney. It comes with being a dog, but Pugsley takes it up a notch with Barney and his little brother Patrick. He follows Barney everywhere, even to a job interview, and famously absorbing the soul of Temeluchus in Barney's place. Don't worry, Pugsley lives. In "Night Of The Living Kids" Pugsley watches Patrick play with his friends, and confides to Courtney that while he will always understand and respect Barney's decision to live in the park, he misses Patrick. He also steadfastly defends Patrick from the sleep-stolen, ravenous kids under control of The Night Hag.
  • Uplifted Animal: He was a normal pug before his Demonic Possession gave him fingers, the ability to speak, walk upright and use magic.

Debuted in Dead End

    The Internet Ghost

The Internet Ghost

Voiced by: Maria Bamford

An evil ghost who controls the internet and wants to possess Barney.

  • Demoted to Extra: Was the Big Bad of Dead End but quickly becomes an extremely minor villain in DeadEndia and doesn't show up in Dead End: Paranormal Park at all… in addition she was originally supposed to be Pauline (with it even being her name in the Short) until that name went to a seperate character.
  • Dirty Old Woman: Loves the booty she got from possessing Barney.
  • Dropped After the Pilot: Not entirely, as she still appears in DeadEndia, but her role decreased dramatically. She is absent altogether from Dead End: Paranormal Park, with her possession tricks being instead transplanted to Pauline.
  • Starter Villain: Is the first antagonist of the whole franchise and one of the first for DeadEndia.

Debuted in DeadEndia

    Courtney

Courtney

Voiced by: Emily Osment
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/corkneh_sit.png

An ancient demon who lives in Phoenix Park.

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Is non-binary and uses they/them in DeadEndia but uses all pronouns (she/her by the other characters) in Dead End: Paranormal Park.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Quickly becomes friendly with the main characters in DeadEndia, but in Dead End: Paranormal Park she is plotting to fully reform her master (if solely to get back home).
  • Batman Gambit: In Paranormal Park, Temeluchus attacks Courtney and she teleports onto the petrified Barney, taunting the demon to smash the statues to get at her. Temeluchus is then forced to give up as Courtney points out that he's gotten attached to the humans and can't bring himself to destroy them, ending his rampage.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: She spends the show wanting to go back home to the Lower Planes, but when she finally gets her wish, she discovers herself even lonelier than before with no one in the Lower Planes even talking to her and all her actual friends in danger back on Earth.
  • Big Eater: Courtney may be short, but she has the appetite of a giant and will happily munch on any foodstuff no matter how disgusting.
  • Breath Weapon: Courtney possesses the ability to breathe fire, as seen when she prepares to attack Pauline for manipulating her.
  • Character Development: Throughout most of season 1, up to the finale, Courtney would have abandoned everyone else, including Barney, Norma, and Pugsley at the first sign of trouble, even impending death. By the season 2 premiere, however, she frets about her friends' lives when it appears that Fingers is about to kill them, and teleports in to try to protect them.
  • Collector of the Strange: She collects dead flies, still-living flies, and stamps.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She has a whole mouth of fangs, actually, but even when her mouth is shut there are two little fangs hanging out on either side.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She is a demon but pretty friendly, and even explains that demons and angels are not really inherently good or evil. Dead End. Paranormal Park have her be a bit more selfish and sadistic, but she ultimately joins the good guys.
  • Demonic Possession: She can assist spirits by sealing them within mortal bodies in a near-irreversible process, allowing them to effectively come back to life. Courtney herself possesses Barney, Norma, and Logs while playing with her spell book in "Wait Time: 22 Minutes".
  • Everyone Has Standards: As surprising as it may be for someone who regularly eats trash, in episode 15, there are two instances of her being disgusted by dog drool, of all things. The first being near the beginning of the episode when she retrieves a doughnut Pugsley grabbed from her she seems to reconsider eating it after noticing the drool on it (note the mold that was on it when she fished it out of the trash was a non-issue). Then later in the episode one of Pugsley's disaster prevention precautions is to lick the puzzle box she brought so she stops playing with it.
    • Also in episode 11 when she freaks out over Gord touching her face.
  • The Exile: Courtney's been banished from her home for unknown reasons and the reason why she initially helped Temeluchus was because he promised to finally let her go home. The promise of being sent home is also why Courtney sides with Pauline Phoenix after a fight with her friends in episode 8. However, a reveal that Courtney's cuffs were placed there by angels heavily implies that she might actually be a fallen angel.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Courtney regularly eats trash and even when she eats actual food, she usually eats it with the wrapper. When Badyah hands her popcorn in episode 5, she takes a few bites out of the popcorn bucket as well.
  • Eyes Are Mental: Characters possessed by Courtney gain slitted pupils and Cute Little Fangs.
  • Fallen Angel: The second season reveals Courtney isn’t a demon, but a fallen angel. However, in this universe, fallen angels are angels whose halos have been damaged, forming a pair of horns instead of a complete circle. They are then sentenced to do labor for all eternity, with a lunch break every five hundred years.
  • Fantastic Ableism: As a fallen angel, Courtney's halo was at some point broken and she is thus considered a defect, with Fingers even referring to her as 'damaged'. Upon being captured, she's thrown into a room with all the other fallen angels who are forced to perform manual labor for eternity with almost no hope of escape.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: Courtney initially doesn't care much about humans but she slowly grows to care about Barney, Norma and Pugsley over the course of the first season. By the finale Courtney fully empathizes with Temeluchus since both of them have been changed by humanity. She even gives up the life she always wanted in hell to stay with her human friends.
  • "I Want" Song: In the show's musical episode she gets a classic one, "Somewhere Down There", in the style of a Disney princess ballad, both in terms of music and imagery, but with complete Lyrical Dissonance as she sings about murder, torture, dictators, and wearing dead flesh while fantasizing about finally being able to go to the Demon Realm. The number especially resembles "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid.
  • Immortal Immaturity: In her own words, she's "like a thousand years old" but she acts a lot like an obnoxious child most of the time.
Courtney: (while waiting in line for a ride) Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
  • The Imp: Courtney's a small demon who can be selfish and bratty in Paranormal Park.
  • Incredibly Long Note: Parodied. In the reprises of "Somewhere Down There", she sustains the final 'there', clocking in at about fifteen seconds each. The other characters are even seen getting bored waiting for the song to end, with Zagan even interrupting her towards the end of the first reprise.
    Somewhere down theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrreeeeeeeee.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's self-centered, rude, gluttonous, and cowardly, but at times, can come through for her friends, especially once the second season rolls in.
  • Leatherman: Takes a typical BDSM gay get-up in one of the guest comics.
  • Mysterious Past: In Paranormal Park Courtney's banished from hell for unknown reasons, and is even implied to have been born on Earth. A pair of demonic cuffs on her wrists prevent her from boarding the Hellevator and the first season's penultimate episode reveals they're actually angelic cuffs, raising further questions about why the angels don't want Courtney returning home.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Deconstructed. She enjoys Hox's Castle, brings skulls to parties, and fantasizes about going to hell, among other things. However, this makes it difficult for other characters to relate to or trust her, as Courtney tends to encourage irresponsible uses of magic for laughs and even marvels at Pauline's plan to possess her impersonators, not noticing Norma's obvious pain at the reveal.
    • Played straight in a brief scene from episode 8 where she and Pugsley are tied to a pole hanging over a fire; while the latter is as distressed as you would expect, she looks thrilled to be there.
  • No Social Skills: As a demon, she has a very limited understanding of humans and thinks things like bringing skulls to parties are normal. When marveling over Pauline’s plan, Courtney repeatedly calls the celebrity's fans stupid for falling for her tricks and doesn’t notice how much it's harming Norma even while the girl is bawling her eyes out.
  • Otherworldly and Sexually Ambiguous: According to Word of God, Courtney uses all pronouns and sees labels like gender more as an aspect of human culture.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Actually a plot point in the guest comic by Toh Daryl, whose own demons strongly contrast against this impish pipsqueak.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: When things get messy, her typical response is to teleport herself to safety.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: In Dead End: Paranormal Park, when Pugsley casts a spell to make everything a musical, her raspy and scratchy voice transitions to a much smoother one when singing.
  • Sweet Tooth: Implied, you can spot several wrapped candies and empty wrappers littering the floor of her room, in episode 6 she drops what she was eating to try and get at the cotton candy Barney arrives with, is especially annoyed when Pugsley takes her doughnut in episode 15, and in episode 16 eats most of a cake by herself.
  • Teleportation: She can disappear and reappear wherever she wants in a poof of smoke. It comes in handy whenever she decides Screw This, I'm Out of Here!.
  • The Paragon Always Rebels: In the comics, it's revealed that Courtney used to be the Grand General of the Angelic Horde and was considered the most perfect of all angels. It didn't last as Courtney aka Cahatel rebelled and took their own halo.
  • Tomboyish Voice: Courtney's voice in Paranormal Park is very raspy and boyish (though it smooths out when she's singing). She also has a fairly gender-neutral presentation, regularly eats trash, and generally just isn't particularly feminine.
  • Was It Really Worth It?: Courtney finally gets to go to the Lower Planes in episode 10 in exchange for betraying her human friends. When she finally gets to the Lower Planes she finds it lonely without the people she's grown to care for and returns to Earth to save them.

    The Watcher

The Watcher

Voiced by: Alex Brightman (Dead End: Paranormal Park)

The main antagonist of DeadEndia The Watcher's Test, actually a future Pugsley driven mad. In the show, a sheriff and law enforcer of the Angelic Horde.

  • Ambiguously Evil: In the TV series, he was there to stop the demonic rampage but it's made clear that in Deadendia that angels can be evil. The ambiguous part drops once his master's intentions are revealed.
  • Beyond Redemption: Trying to reason with this guy gets him to be transphobic towards you. Thus, though he is a tragic figure, he pretty much has to die.
  • Big Bad: Of DeadEndia The Watcher's Test.
  • Bishōnen Line: His demonic and angelic powers gave him a more humanoid appearance.
  • Demonic Possession: Pugsley as he failed to take control of the demon possessing him.
  • Hellhound: Is a dog with demonic powers, though being a pug makes him visually pretty unique, and he disguises his canine identity through most of the comic.
  • Future Me Scares Me: When taken to the past by Barney, he scares baby Pugsley who thinks his halo is a ring of fire.
  • Godzilla Threshold: He unleashed a powerful spell known as the Spell of Division to end the Dividing War in the Bad Future.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He and Pugsley allow Fingers to kill them to save their friends.
  • La RĂ©sistance: Was the greatest wizard in the resistance fighting back against Coronator Tartarus and his Demon Kings when they invaded Earth in his timeline in the comics.
  • Light Is Not Good: Is an angelic magic-user and has been brainwashed by the angels into fighting the Dividing War.
  • Oh, Crap!: In the comics, When he realizes that the demon slayers that he recruited Barney, Norma, Pugsley aren't that good at demon slaying, he panics ranting about how Tartarus is going to come back and finish what he started and in a moment of desperation, thinks of searching other planes for survivors.
  • One-Man Army: Manages to banish a entire party of demons including Temeluchus and Asmodeus to Naraka.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: In the comics. In a moment of spite The Watcher calls Barney (who is a trans man) a girl. This hurts even more given who he actually is.
  • Redemption Equals Death: In the TV series, he (along with his past self) lets Fingers kill him as his last act as Pugsley.
  • Tragic Villain: Pugsley driven to the darkside due to both demonic possession and the traumas of warfare and ultimately Killed Off for Real.

    Logan "Logs" Nguyen

Logan "Logs" Nguyen

Voiced by: Kenny Tran
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/logan_3flogs3f.png

Barney's Love Interest.

  • Absurd Phobia: In episode 3 of Dead End: Paranormal Park, he's apparently afraid of having his laptop's battery die out before he could recharge but no available outlet to plug in.
  • All Gays Love Theater: Averted, when Barney asks him out during the musical episode Phantom of the Theme Park he specifically requests "anything but musicals"
  • Mr. Fanservice: A constant in his appearances is how he is sexualised, with even Dead End: Paranormal Park showing shots focused on his thighs.
  • Nice Guy: Very friendly and welcoming to everyone.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: In Paranormal Park he goes exclusively by Logs.
  • Straight Gay: A bit of a jock with no camp mannerisms. The DeadEndia version of the character also overlaps with Manly Gay given how muscular he is.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: Played with: in a now-deleted comic Barney suspects Logan of cheating with his roommate Herc, but later learns that the two are amicable ex-boyfriends - who broke up because Logan wanted to try a more open relationship and Herc did not. This aspect of his character is not present in the graphic novel version of DeadEndia nor in Dead End: Paranormal Park, though in a guest comic by Daryl Toh he is flirted with by a demon while Barney is around.
  • Tragic AIDS Story: Subverted: Is confirmed as HIV-positive in a now-deleted DeadEndia webcomic panel, but he has been accepted as such by at least two partners post-diagnosis.

    Badyah Hassan

Badyah Hassan

Voiced by: Kathreen Khavari
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badyah.png

An employee at Phoenix Parks who operates the Deathslide attraction.

  • Absurd Phobia: Hamsters are her greatest fear.
  • Blush Stickers: Her cheeks are always blushed with two symmetrical spots.
  • Endearingly Dorky: She can be just as dorky and excitable as Norma, even preferring when Norma initially calls her "Deathslide" instead of remembering her real name.
  • Incompatible Orientation: When Norma confesses that she has a crush on her, Badyah gently lets her down on the basis that she is straight.
  • Literal-Minded: Many examples of this appear in the show, such as:
    • Badyah believing the Pauline impersonator wearing a wedding dress is actually having her wedding that day.
    • Her telling Norma the exact last thing Jennifer Swan told her: "Bye!"
    • Her pouring soup through the mail slot when she's told to leave it at the door.
    • Her genuinely trying to listen to Harm Many's instruction to "applaud with her soul" by beating her chest.
  • The Matchmaker: Badyah tries to set up Norma and Zagan romantically in Season 2.
  • Nice Girl: Badyah is nothing but cheerful and sweet towards her coworkers.

    Temeluchus

Temeluchus Chieftain of Torment and Demon King.

Voiced by: Alex Brightman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fvbkairwiaql3yg.jpg

A member of the demon royal family. He tasks Courtney to find him a human host so he can take over Earth but ends up possessing Pugsley instead. Though defeated in the first episode, his magic leaves its mark on Pugsley.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Temeluchus in DeadEndia is a very brief Arc Villain that is essentially a plot device to get Pugsley's abilities, though he ends up being one of the things that turn The Wanderer to evil. In Dead End: Paranormal Park is a much more developed character overall and an important antagonist in the series.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Temeluchus after spending time in Pugsley's body, becomes more nicer and friendly to the heroes.
  • Bad Boss: Courtney gets him a host but instead of upholding his end of the deal and sending her to the Lower Planes, he keeps her banishment in effect. He also vaporizes one of his minions for innocently trying to take a photo of him, though it turns out he had good reason to avoid photography.
  • Conflict Killer: Just as it looks like the final showdown between the heroes and Pauline is about to begin, Temeluchus convinces Pugsley to let him take over his body so he can defeat Pauline. After easily dispatching Pauline, Temeluchus and his sister Zagan become the main antagonists of the final episode.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: He's high up in the Lower Planes' hierarchy, being a member of the demon royal family and one of the Four Demon Kings.
  • The Dragon: Functioned as one to the Coronator in the comics before his death.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: Or rather, dogmanity is infectious. The piece of Temeluchus that remained trapped in Pugsley caused him to gain an understanding of love and friendship which causes him to give up on taking over the Human Plane. Courtney sympathizes, saying humanity can really get "under your scales."
  • The Dreaded: Is feared by nearly every demon and human who's ever met him. Though this partly goes down by season 2.
  • Love Redeems: Temeluchus gives up on his ambitions to take over Earth after experiencing Pugsley's feelings of love towards Barney and humanity. By the time he has all his powers back, he realizes he can't bring himself to actually harm anyone. He definitely isn't happy about it, but grumpily accepts it and goes home.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: After possessing Pugsley in the first episode, he's defeated by getting his soul trapped in a picture taken of him. At least, most of his soul is in the picture.
  • Sealed Evil In A Person: A small piece of his soul remains trapped in Pugsley, granting him magical abilities. If Pugsley uses too much magic it runs the risk of giving Temeluchus control over Pugsley's body.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With his sister Zagan. When she thinks he's taken over the Human Plane, she heads to Earth with an army, ostensibly to serve him, but really to usurp the plane for herself.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Courtney holds up her end of the bargain and provides a host for him so he can conquer Earth. In repayment, Temeluchus refuses to uphold his end of the bargain to end her banishment from the Lower Planes. In the season finale, after both he and Courtney have undergone character development, he offers to grant her diplomatic immunity and take her back to the Lower Planes with him, only for her to choose to remain with her human friends.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: He's an all-powerful demon king who can be easily defeated by someone taking a picture of the person he's possessing, trapping his soul inside the photo.
  • What Is This Feeling?: He is incredibly annoyed to realize he can't bring himself to hurt Barney or take over the world after the piece of his soul that was trapped inside Pugsley experienced the dog's love of humans, causing Temeluchus to feel it himself.

    Fingers

Fingers

Voiced by: Jamie Demetriou

An angel with a gigantic hand for a head and a seemingly endless arm for a body. He shows up to act as a "parole officer" for Courtney after her Heel–Face Turn but quickly begins acting as a teacher for Pugsley to help him regain his lost magic.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the comics, He was an ally of the group and helped them with defeating Temeluchus and even died trying to protect the others from Pauline Phoenix. In the TV series, he's willing to kill Barney and the others and make Pugsley the Watcher. Though Trapped in Villainy may apply as Fingers was fearful of his master "cutting" him off.
  • Arc Villain: He's the main villain for season two of the tv series, though the final episodes reveal he is just the literal right-hand to his mysterious master.
  • Berserk Button: Don't give him hi-fives unless you want to make him Hulk Out in the tv series.
  • Co-Dragons: With The Watcher in season 2 of Paranormal Park.
  • False Friend: In the tv series. He pretends to be an ally for the group, but is actually using them to achieve his own goals.
  • Fantastic Racism: Detests demons, viewing them as vile, undisciplined scum and scoffs at the nature of their magic.
  • Kick the Dog: Though he claims that his actions are for the greater good, its kinda hard to sell when he spends a good deal of his time taunting and belittling his enemies, including and particularly Courtney and Pugsley in the tv series.
  • Knight of Cerebus: After he reveals his true nature to the gang, things are scarier when he's on screen.
  • Organ Autonomy: In the comics, each of his fingers can talk and move of their own free will. In the tv series,he's the sentient right hand of Pael, a seraph in charge of the angels in Naraka.
  • Token Heroic Orc: In the comics, he's the only angel seen on screen that isn't evil.
  • Treacherous Advisor: He spends season two of Paranormal Park teaching Pugsley how to regain the magic powers he lost from being Temeluchus's host. Except the only reason he was doing so was to create a Stable Time Loop where Pugsley is forced to become the Watcher.
  • Walking Spoiler: Hard to talk about him without spoiling that he's the Arc Villain for season two.
  • A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: His first appearance has him seemingly being a villain whose hunting down Courtney and Pugsley, only to reveal the entire thing was a misunderstanding and he begins acting much more polite and helpful, though still occasionally unsettling. The multiple hints he's up to no good aren't Red Herrings and Fingers is the main villain of season two.
  • You Have Failed Me: When Pugsley and the Watcher sacrifice themselves to ensure the former can never turn into the latter, Fingers's master kills him by "cutting him off" which ends up being Not Hyperbole as Fingers is his master's literal right-arm and is severed from his master's body.

A famous actress who Pollywood and Phoenix Parks were inspired by.
  • Adaptational Expansion: Becomes a much more important antagonist in the tv series.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Downplayed as she’s still a ghost but Pauline in the Short was actually the Internet Ghost and had no human appearance (other than when she Possessed Barney), but in the series itself her screentime is spent more on her human form than her as a ghost.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In the comics, Pauline Phoenix remains an unrepentant person through and through. In the tv series, she helps Courtney keep the petrified forms of the park guests safe though its Pragmatic Villainy also. In the second season, she helps the escapees from Naraka safely land.

Even more upsetting is that that Pauline has been dead for 30 years with her video will having been filmed a few years before the events of the series. Tigers in captivity only live up to 20-25 years. Even if the will was filmed when Destiny was a cub, she still has lived an unusually long time.

  • Big Bad: The main antagonist in the Broken Halo.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Manages to make Courtney become an angel again and takes out Paimon

  • The Dreaded: The Demon Kings react in shock when they learn that Pael is in Naraka.
  • The Dragon: Functions as one to the Divine.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Functions as one in the tv series.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He manipulates Courtney into thinking that their friends don't care about them. It's stated in his tv series concept art that he tricks people into thinking he's their friend.

  • Dissonant Serenity: Remains calm and serene even when killing Fingers in the tv series.

The Divine

The leader of the Angelic Horde. They are a powerful entity that has divided the universe into 13 planes and brainwashed most of the angels.
  • Benevolent Boss: Pael claims them to be one.
  • Bad Boss: Has seemingly brainwashed most of the low-ranking angels within the Horde.
  • Big Bad: Is set up to be one in the Divine Order.
  • Egopolis: The 1st plane is named after them.
  • God: Seems to be the closest to one in the setting.

     Roxie and Saul Guttman

Roxie and Saul Guttman.

Barney and Patrick's parents. They are well-intentioned but make mistakes when it comes to dealing with Grammy Gram.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In the Original Run and graphic novels, they were worse. In the Original Run, they raised Barney's rent so he couldn't afford top surgery and refused to accept him while refusing to look for him. In the tv series, they're much better parents who do make some mistakes but they learn from them.
  • Character Development: In the tv series, they become better people and ban Grammy Gram from coming to family dinner until she accepts Barney.
  • Parents as People: They care for their children but make mistakes in handling Grammy Gram's transphobic behaviour towards Barney.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Their actions in both the comics and tv series. In both series, Barney runs away from home and moves into Dead End causing Pugsley to be possessed by Temeluchus. In the comics, Temeluchus ends up being killed which results in the Demon Kings decimating Earth while leaving almost no survivors and turns Pugsley into the Watcher and forcing him to kill himself to stop the Watcher. In the TV series, the angels desperate to win the upcoming war, send Fingers down to Earth to train Pugsley into becoming the Watcher. In both versions, this leads to the angels and demons preparing to go to war with Plane 7 being the intended battleground.

    Harmony/Harm Many

Harmony/Harm Many

Voiced by: Alan Cumming
A hippie counselor hired to run trust-building exercises for the park employees. Turns out to be a fear-devouring demon.
  • Canon Foreigner: Only appears in the Animated Adaptation.
  • Back from the Dead: He returns in season two's "Eat the Parents", having planted a magic party-planning book in Dead End as a contingency plan for his resurrection. He doesn't stick around for long.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: When he first appears, Harm Many puts on an act of being an enlightened, well-meaning and friendly life coach dedicated to helping the staff form meaningful bonds with one another. However as the episode goes on, he stops helping the staff trust one another and become more confident and instead shoves them into situations that make them uncomfortable like the "Human Knot Of Trust" where all the staff (sans Pugsley) join hands and have to unknot themselves, which freaks Norma out so much that she runs off crying and forces them to face their fears with no advice how to overcome them. It's shortly after this that the gang learn he's not a life-coach at all, but rather a demon named Harm-Many who feeds off of people's worst fears.
  • Crystal Skull: He uses one to take people to a world where they experience their greatest fears so he can feed on that fear.
  • Emotion Eater: He feeds on fear.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Even while everyone around him writhes in fear, the only time he drops the enlightened hippie act is when he's blowing up from Norma's fear.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • His attempt to feed on Norma's fears ended with him blowing up from a fear overload.
    • Happens again in "Eat the Parents". He forces Logs to voice his insecurities, but this just leads Barney and his parents to encourage and grow closer to him. The resulting positivity poisons and destroys Harmony.
  • Ironic Name: The humans point this out when they think the name is Harmony, only to be corrected that the name is actually "Harm-Many" instead, making it a very literal name.
  • Ludd Was Right: He used to generate all the fear he needed just by having people look at him, but horror films made that more difficult for him.
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: He dresses and talks like an archetypal hippie, possibly to make it harder for people to find out that he's a demon.
  • Our Demons Are Different: His demon form can best be described as an octopus walking around like a spider with eyes where the joints should be.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: While it's likely to be because Norma has much more fear and anxiety than the rest of the staff, Harm Many's repeated attempts to make Norma scared and uncomfortable make him come off as this when you realize that she's autistic.
    • When he returns in Eat the Parents, he mocks Norma's previous confession as "So Very Special Episode".
  • Red Right Hand: His right eye in his human form is deformed enough to be recognizably demonic.
  • Violent Glaswegian: While far more subdued in demeanor than other examples, he's still a malevolent being with a Scottish brogue.

  • Canon Foreigner: Only appears in the Animated Adaptation
  • Everyone Has Standards: Is willing to do anything to expose Pauline Phoenix but when the latter tries to hurt the kids, Barborah tries to give the kids time to escape and even urges Norma to run.
