META

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/azurlane_meta_8.png

Ship prefix: META

Represents the playable or non-antagonistic versions of the Ashes ships. The playable META ships, much like Prototype ships, cannot be built normally; instead, they are acquired by being defeated in raid battles in Operation Siren.

For information on some of the non-playable Ashes ships, please see Azur Lane Ashes.

    open/close all folders

Faction-wide Tropes

  • Alternate Self: Of ships from the other factions. They're apparently far enough removed from their regular counterparts that they have been placed in a faction of their own (and thus no longer receive faction-based buffs, such as from Meowfficers and Nagato.). For reference, the "Little" versions and Muse versions of certain ships are still considered to be part of the same faction as their original versions.
  • Born Unlucky: Nearly all of them have a Luck stat in the lower ends, at 33-36, same as their normal counterparts. The exceptions are Ark Royal META (87 Luck), Gneisenau META (64 Luck), and Fusou META (13 Luck). This is probably because their real-life counterparts were sunk in action.
  • Broken Bird: Ultimately, it's not hard to read all these girls as having issues from being survivors of their doomed timelines.
  • The Corruption: The phenomenon which happens to a shipgirl's Wisdom Cube to cause her to become META can eventually destroy her mind, causing her to be nothing but an unthinking weapon of war- This happened to Souryuu.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: As far the bulk of the specifically named "META" ships go, they may be darker, but their focus is fighting the sirens and other antagonistic forces. Yorktown META and Helena META have stated their loyalty to the Commander.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Both the friendly META ships and their not-so-friendly Ashes counterparts are noticeably more dour and serious than their regular versions. The exceptions so far are Renown META and Repulse META, which personality wise are the closest to their original self without any real hint of darkness.
  • Defeat Means Playable: In order to bring these ships into your dock, you must acquire Ashes Coordinates from Operation Siren to unlock a raid battle against an NPC version of them. You will need to do this several times to acquire them, and several more times after that to fully enhance them.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: To the extent that the unique rarity level frame around their portraits is on fire. Their Details screens are also filled with smoldering hot embers floating into the sky. Even their oath certificates are singed. Downplayed in that they aren't actually evil, but just edgier and more serious.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation:
    • In-game, it is possible to have recruited at least 10 META ships as of today; in-story, the status of each individual META girl varies, with only Helena META and Hiryuu META expressing any interest in possibly switching sides to the Commander. Yorktown META has yet to reveal herself to the Commander, and the Ugly Sisters META aligned with the Iron Blood faction of the main timeline, with their existence kept secret from everyone else for now.
    • Their appearances in events consistently depict META shipgirls as much more powerful than normal shipgirls. Gameplay-wise, they're little better than their normal counterparts and are functionally on par with other shipgirls of the same rarity (with Operation Siren META shipgirls being SR-equivalent and Cruise META shipgirls being Elite-equivalent).
  • Hat Damage: For the most part, their outfits, particularly their cloaks, are singed and battle-torn, just to add to their Darker and Edgier look. Only Fusou and Hiyou's outfits come anywhere near Fanservice vis a vis the rest, but they're still inspired on their original look to begin with.
  • La Résistance: In contrast to the Ashes group, as they're more willing to ally themselves with the Commander's faction.
  • Last of Her Kind: Each META is the last survivor of their individual timeline.
  • Level Grinding: Not necessarily their character level, as every ship has to do that. Unique to META ships, however, is the requirement to level grind their skills in combat as well (in contrast to using skill books, which all other ships need). With how uncommon skill books (particularly red ones) can be, this may be considered an improvement.
  • Meaningful Name: According to Helena META in "Mirror Involution", the name META is short for "metamorphosis", indicating a transformation from their original forms, but it is also short for metastasis (i.e., the point at which cancer begins to spread to different parts of the body).
    • The former meaning could apply to Hiryuu META, Helena Meta, Ark Royal META, and Yorktown META, all of whom have overcome their issues and gained strength.
    • Souryuu META demonstrates the latter meaning, having succumbed to the META phenomenon to the point where she's nothing more than a mindless killing machine.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Even compared to Research ships. To wit:
    • Recruiting them and limit breaking them requires you to repeatedly fight them in the Operation Siren game mode.
    • Improving their stats requires you to use items only obtainable within Operation Siren.
    • Skill experience is earned from combat, rather than skill books (though skill books are still used to unlock the skills in the first place).
  • One-Man Army: Storywise, given their power.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Storywise, their power is usually several times greater than the ships under the Commander.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: In story, how the alliance/truce between META and the Commander's fleet came to be, once the Commander proved they also stood against The Arbiters.
  • Temporary Online Content: Each META ship can only be fought and thus recruited for a limited time. This also applies to their uncap materials but not anything else.

    Fortune META

Fortune Meta

ID:
Rarity: Elite
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fortune_metashipyardicona.png

Well met, Commander. My name is Fortune. Please don't worry about those chains... They're there to... keep my power in check.

The META counterpart of the Royal Navy's Fortune.

  • Chuunibyou: Downplayed but there when she claims her chains are to restrain her power.
  • Kinky Cuffs: Her wrists are cuffed together above her head.
  • Sideboob/Underboobs: And how! She's wearing a breastless red dress, leaving her breasts completely exposed and with her nipples being barely covered by a pair of tassels.
  • Stripperiffic: As if having her breasts exposed wasn't enough, she's also not wearing any panties and instead she's being covered by a strip of leather running down lengthwise from her neck.

    Hunter META

Greetings, Commander. I'm Hunter. I hunt as you might surmise. Is this place... my new Base?

The META counterpart of the Royal Navy's Hunter.

  • Shear Menace: Holds a pair of oversized (and bloodstained) scissors as a weapon.
  • Shout-Out: Her entire black, worn appearance and signature tricorne are big ones to Bloodborne.

ID: No. 30003
Rarity: Super Rare

Were you looking for me? I am willing to lend you my power – provided that you promise not to hide anything from me.

The META counterpart of the Eagle Union's Helena.

  • Alliance of Alternates: Her "Information Addiction" skill buffs her survivability significantly if she is sortied with her regular Eagle Union counterpart (or Lena), encouraging this.
  • Art Evolution: Unlike most other META ships introduced thus far, her artwork is done by a completely different artist than her normal counterpart, with significantly more detailed shading.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Has one of these moments during the Darkest Hour of Parallel Superimposition, when she comes to the rescue of the Commander when the awakened Arbiter Devil XV is tearing through the Eagle Union defenses, and helps them escape the simulation even though it is sadly impossible to save Yorktown II, the other Type II shipgirls, or the human researchers Dr. Anzeel and Dr. Aoste due to them being mere memories encoded into data.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: To enemies hit by her barrage, rather than every foe on the screen at the moment. It is also much less powerful than her Eagle Union counterpart.
  • Defector from Decadence: Mirror Involution implies this, with the JP version basically spelling it out as such, during her conversation with Yorktown META, that she originally belonged to Ashes before defecting to Yorktown's camp. This is later comfirmed by a flashback during the Pledge Of The Radiant Court event, to Renown and Repulse META's memories of an attempted Ashes assault on Observer's Zero mainframe, which shows Helena META as being present within the assault group.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Appeared as a major character in the "Mirror Involution" event just prior to her introduction as a playable character.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: In "Mirror Involution," she assisted the Commander by firing barrages at enemies from off screen. It is not until later during Operation Siren that you're able to acquire her, but you still got to fight her in order to do so.
  • Ms. Exposition: Serves this purpose in "Mirror Involution" to describe what the META process is, and how she and the Ashen ships differ.
  • The Omniscient: The META process has apparently made her trademark SG Radar evolve from a potent scanning and tracking machine into an all-seeing miracle device. If her boasts are accurate, the SG Radar allows her to see where everyone and everything is at all times, and even see into the future!
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Or maybe Kick the Dog depending on your point of view of the circumstances, but she just couldn’t resist hacking into Compiler's mainframe and showing her the circumstances behind her 'birth', which even Compiler, herself didn’t know, right as she was in her death throes. Compiler seemingly dies while confused and, for the first time in her life, questioning the meaning behind her existence.
  • Stepford Smiler: That smile on her face? The only reason she's doing it (at first) is to make it hard for other people to know what she's actually feeling. Naturally, the smile becomes genuine as your affinity with her increases.
"Of course I like to smile. As long as you can maintain a smile on your face, your heart will always remain opaque to others."
  • That Man Is Dead: During her conversation with Yorktown META, it's clear that she'd rather not bring up or even think of her time when she was associated with the Ashes faction.
  • Time Stands Still: In contrast to regular Helena's SG Radar inflicting a Damage-Increasing Debuff, Helena META's freezes opponents in place instead.
  • Yandere: Not to the extent of the Azur Lane regulars of this trope (Akagi, Roon, and Taihou), but she constantly uses her all-seeing SG to ask questions about the Commander's actions that only seem to be half-teasing.
(returning to port) "Where did you go, Commander? I'll know whether or not you're lying~"
(idling at the port) "Commander, looking for someone? I know much more than just what happens around the office. I see everything that happens at this port."

I'm Memphis. You may not know me, but I know you and I know you well. Don't you worry, I'm not a threat – you can trust me. Today I assume the role of your right hand and bodyguard.

The META counterpart of the Eagle Union's Memphis.

  • Angel Unaware: In the event Parallel Superimposition, Memphis META goes undercover as her original non-META self Memphis alongside the Commander to protect him as their bodyguard, when they both inadvertently get dragged into the same simulation of memories through the Reality Lens after the Commander embarks on an emergency operation at the top-secret research base "Sea of Stars" to fix dangerous irregularities in Anchorage's hull.
  • Foreshadowing: When met in person in the Reality Lens of Parallel Superimposition, she stands out amongst the other Type II shipgirls for sticking with her original self's looks. Moreover, she nearly says "Reality Lens", so players might be inclined to be believe this is our Memphis who somehow slipped into the Reality Lens... except the scene after the mock battle shows the real one is still outside, worried for the Commander.
  • Graceful Loser: During Parallel Superimposition, despite how close she came to winning in the naval exercise against the Commander, she admits her opponent was her better.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Says this almost word-for-word during a momentary Heroic BSoD during Parallel Superimposition, when the defensive lines against Devil XV's onslaught break down and the Commander's life is at risk from the Arbiter wreaking havoc inside the simulation created by the blended memories of Anchorage, Memphis, and Dr. Anzeel.
  • Protectorate: Upon acquisition, she states her desire to protect the Commander no matter what.
  • The Strategist: When the Commander engages her (disguised as her non-META self) in a mock battle in Parallel Superimposition, she turns out to have a knack for strategy, being able to direct a huge mass-produced ship fleet without fail while anticipating many of the Commander's moves; it took the Commander using himself as bait to win, predicting her luring his shipgirls away with a reserve fleet to let her personally come out of her submarine flagship to take his flagship—but leaving it vulnerable to a pre-planned air bombing by Yorktown.
  • Undying Loyalty: In a similar vein to South Dakota, Memphis META is endlessly loyal to the Commander, no matter what happens. Even if her Affinity reaches Disappointed, she will merely restate that she will follow your orders and remain by your side.

So you're the Commander... in other words, my Master. Alright, got it. The name's Sheffield, and the game's pointing my gun at vermin – Ah, please disregard that little gesture I made just now.

The META counterpart of the Royal Navy's Sheffield.

  • Flower Motifs: Roses, thorns and all.
  • Friendly Fire: Played With in her disappointed Affection level, where she says she'd never fire at friends unless they cease to be.
  • Going Commando: Averted, but maybe by necessity of her pose, as she's shown wearing underwear, unlike her canonical original self.
  • Guns Akimbo: Much like the original, she's shown dual wielding guns.

Heavy Cruisers (CA)

    Trento META

Trento Meta

ID: 30013
Rarity: Elite

"I'm heavy cruiser Trento. Please task me with whatever you may need, be it on the frontlines or backlines. Why am I here, you ask? Because I'm a shipgirl whose job it is to assist you, of course."

The META counterpart of the Sardegna Empire's Trento.

  • Bear Hug: Implied by one of her lines where she apologizes for squeezing too tight after the Commander asks for a hug.
  • Canon Character All Along: It was revealed in Light-Chasing Sea of Stars that Trento META is the very same Trento in the main timeline's Sardegna Empire. She is currently under Clemenceau's treatment and is gradually recovering from her condition.
  • Cuddle Bug: A trait that carries over from her normal counterpart.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: As her affection increases, she admits to having reoccurring nightmares and offers to listen if the Commander ever has any.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: She mentions having awful visions, but tries to downplay it in front of the Commander.
  • Underboobs: Her outfit leaves a boob-wedge that showcases this.
    Algerie META

Algerie META

Rarity: Super Rare

"You must be the Commander. I am the heavy cruiser Algérie. So, what pleasures can I experience here? I do hope you won't disappoint me. Heehee~"

The META counterpart of the Vichiya Dominion's Algerie.

  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Her first skill, Sinner's Pursuit, fires a special barrage that increases the damage she deals to enemies hit by it.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Much like her normal counterpart, but Algerie META takes it up a notch by having only two flaps keeping her chest covered, and while her skirt would be quite modest otherwise, she's sitting in a cross-legged pose that leaves the skirt hanging to the side, leaving her thick thighs and legs exposed and focused on. Furthermore, Algerie META retains her original self's teasing personality, but now adds a hint of masochism into the mix for fanservice purposes.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Implied; her "Low HP" Status Line is outright excitement at the pain her enemies are inflicting upon her.
Yes! Yes! Now you're doing it!

    Gneisenau META

Gneisenau META

Voiced by: Minami Shinoda

ID: 30007

"You're... the Commander, right? In other words, the one with the authority to control me. Though I have no interest in you as an individual, I will still obey your orders... At least for the time being."

The META counterpart of the Ironblood's Gneisenau.

  • Blood Knight: Much like the other META girls, she's incredibly focused on fighting, wishing to eschew any other duty that would prevent her from doing so.
  • Death Seeker: Prior to re-joining Ironblood, she was seeking to fight everything until she could fight no more as everyone else had died. Finding that Bismarck survived the events of Scherzo of Iron and Blood gives her a reason to live and join the Ironblood.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen:
    • Due to her nature of seeing herself as a Living Weapon. She gets better by the time you reach "Love" affinity with her, but only barely.
    • However, during the Tower of Transcendence event she shows a lot more emotion than her dialogue lines would initially indicate, showing great concern for the Ironblood girls she just met and for Scharnhorst META, despite not actually being her actual sister, and just generally being very affable after an initial frosty interaction.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: In-story, Gneisenau META aligns herself with the Ironblood faction following her rescue from a collapsing singularity; whereas in-game, we acquire her thru the Raid Boss Battles mechanics.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Ulrich gambles that Gneisenau META would be loyal to Bismarck despite not knowing Ulrich and the other "newer" Ironblood girls. She joins upon finding out Bismarck survived in this timeline.
  • Living Weapon. She obviously sees herself as this, and is puzzled when the Commander wants to treat her as humanely as possible.
  • Sibling Team: With Scharnhorst META, despite not being related this time around. It Makes Sense in Context
  • Thicker Than Water: Despite knowing that as METAs, both her and Scharnhorst are not related, due to both coming from different timelines, she still feels a strong kinship towards Scharnhorst META.
  • To Hell and Back: Her pledge line basically wants the Commander to go on said trip with her.
If you're prepared to go to these great lengths for me, then I shall accompany you to the very end. I'm becoming more and more curious – just how far will you be able to go by my side? ...Yes, I cannot allow you to leave until we've traversed the very bowels of hell. Are you ready?
  • Undying Loyalty: In Tower of Transcendence, to Bismarck. Just the mere possibility of being able to meet her again, even if it’s not her Bismarck, was all she needed to be convinced to return to Ironblood, even as a META, rather than joining the Ashes — an offer which, it must be stated, came from Scharnhorst META. Granted, it wasn’t her Scharnhorst either, but still.

ID: 30009
Rarity: Super Rare

"I'm Iron Blood battlecruiser Scharnhorst. I am keen to join forces with a Commander as talented as you. Don't let my expectations of you be misplaced."

The META counterpart of the Ironblood's Scharnhorst.

Part of Enterprise META's Ashes faction, but appears to be on friendly terms with the Iron Blood following the latter's rescue of both her and Gneisenau META.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Likely aligns herself with the Iron Blood after being rescued by Ulrich and the other girls from an Arbiter ambush. It's also the reason why she was originally aligned with Enterprise META, after Enterprise META rescued her from her original timeline. Rondo at Rainbow's End confirms this was the case.
  • Cane Fu: In her META boss fight, she will fling her cane at you as one of her attacks.
  • Classy Cane: She sports one and is not afraid to use it to use it in combat.
  • Hidden Depths: Deep down, she's actually insecure, but the Commander helps her with that, as seen in her Love Dialogue:
What is this feeling of inner peace which I've lacked for so long...? What will happen when it goes away? ...You won't let it go anywhere?Full Quote
  • Insult Backfire: How she sees the Ugly Sisters moniker.
The Ugly Sisters... Hahah. What an unforgettable nickname. The spite of your enemies is the most potent affirmation you can ask for.
  • Mr. Exposition: She sheds more light into the actual motives of Ashes as a faction.
  • Precision F-Strike: The saltiness of her MVP line can take you by surprise in a game not partiuclarly known for strong language. Downplayed in that she is already known for her abrasive and crass demeaner.
Such is the inevitable fate of all raving shitheads who oppose me.
  • Sibling Team: With Gneisenau META, despite not being related this time around. It Makes Sense in Context
  • Thicker Than Water: Once she gets over her hang ups regarding Gneisenau META, they start to act like sisters.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Initially very cold when she made her presence known, and makes it clear that Gneisenau META is not actually her actual sister.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: That said, the Gneisenau META from a different timeline grows on her — it helps that Gneisenau META was the one that pushed the other Iron Blood girls to mount a search and rescue for her after it was made clear that she could have fallen to an Arbiter attack.

Repulse, Renown-class battlecruiser. Me and my sis have seen some things... That's a story for another day, though. I must say... this calm, peaceful port is ideal for a place to rest.

The META counterpart of the Royal Navy's Repulse.

  • Fanservice Pack: While her original counterpart is by no means unattractive, Repulse META shows signs of this, with a smaller top that shows more midriff and even some underboob, and the muscles of her belly are more visibly toned as well.
  • Hair Color Dissonance: The lighting in her artwork gives her hair a more orange hue compared to her regular self, but it appears orange or even a dark blonde in her sprite.
  • Hidden Depths: Some of the dialogue indicates that all that time spent in isolation did get to her, but tries not to think much about now that she has found a new place to call home.
  • Magma Man: Her sword appears molten in her art, with several more stalagmites erupting behind her.
  • Nice Girl: Even at the lowest affection, she is never mad at you and wishes to help you become a better person.
  • Plucky Girl: Despite what she's been through, compared to most META girls she keeps a pretty positive attitude.
  • Retired Badass: After being locked in a Mirror Sea, she was content with just taking care of an old castle — Vanguard and her team appearing in their mirror sea stirred within her the will to join the fight once again, and even then, only after they had already said their goodbyes.
  • Sibling Team: With Renown META.
  • Underboobs: The cut of her shirt show this off.

The META counterpart of the Royal Navy's Renown.

  • Early-Bird Cameo: First seen as an NPC in Pledge of the Radiant Court event.
  • Magma Man: Much like her sister, her sword appears molten in her art, with several more stalagmites erupting behind her.
  • Retired Badass: After being locked in a Mirror Sea, she was content with just taking care of an old castle — Vanguard and her team appearing in their mirror sea stirred within her the will to join the fight once again, and even then, only after they had already said their goodbyes.

"I am battleship Fusou. I have come to bring peace to this world's tormented souls. Commander, do you seek blessings... or redemption?"

The META counterpart of the Sakura Empire's Fusou.

  • Butterfly of Death and Rebirth: Her aesthetic includes glowing butterflies revolving around her, which coincides as her role as a Psychopomp.
  • Born Unlucky: Fusou META is even worse in this regard than other META ships excluding Ark Royal, since she has a very low Luck value of 13. This is the same luck value as her normal counterpart.
  • Consummate Professional: She certainly more serious in her role as a miko as META, but she comes across as pretty jaded about it.
  • Hidden Depths: It's not hard to see her behavioral changes, like being more dour, taking her miko duties seriously when it comes to funeral rites and overall detachment as a result of all the death that surrounded her in her original timeline.
("Like" Affinity) - I've seen far too many lost souls stricken with grief and remorse. Full Quote
("Love" Affinity) - Before I met you and everyone else here, all I could do was pray. I had lost all motivation to sing hymns or even lead lost souls to the light. Full Quote
  • Jade-Colored Glasses: Her dour exterior matches her inner thoughts for the most part.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Downplayed. Had the most revealing outfit of the META girls until Hiyou META became available. However, she does not have the personality, unlike her normal counterpart.
  • Miko: While still acting like a shrine maiden and constantly praying to the gods, her attitude comes across as somewhat cynical.
  • Power Floats: Her art has her floating several feet above the water, judging from a portion of her outfit stretching several feet below her legs before they actually reach the surface of the water.
  • Psychopomp: Often talks about bringing peace to souls and guiding them if they're lost.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: She always wished for Yamashiro to be happy and for their curse to be lifted; being unable to accomplish that seems to be one of the key reasons why she's so dour as META.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: Upon reaching Love affinity, she regains a semblance of hope.

"Are you this fleet's Commander, Milord? I see. You have great potential, but your skills need some refinement. I wonder what's the best way to train you... You'll see soon enough – stay alert until then!"

The META counterpart of the Sakura Empire's Yamashiro.

  • Born Unlucky: Tries to downplay this, saying that if you've been properly trained, you can overcome this.
  • Brick Joke: The original Yamashiro mentions a vase that broke as she was walking past by it. Yamashiro META mentions she caught it because her training allowed for improved reflexes.
  • Consummate Professional: She is really focused on her duties as a secretary, and on training others.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Her Blood Sacrifice skill fires a special barrage that leeches her HP in order to improve it.
  • Hidden Depths: It's not hard to read her workaholic behavior as not wanting to be seen as useless, specially given her Pledge dialogue.
Is this... proof of your adoration, Milord? Oh, I feel truly blessed! Henceforth, please allow me to assist by taking on more and more work, or anything else you want done! I promise I'll be of great use!
  • Miko: Much like Fusou META and her original counterpart, she sports the looks; but unlike them, there's no indication in the dialogue that she partakes in those duties.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Sorta Downplayed. Certainly keeps the looks, but the dialogue doesn't give any real indication that she's playing it straight, just like Fusou META.
  • Sexual Euphemism: It's not hard to read the last portion of her Love line as this.
  • Veteran Instructor: Very focused on training the other girls.

I am Arizona... This may be improper of me, but is it really alright for me to stay here? ...Very well, Commander. If that is what you've decided...

  • The Jinx: Implied by her dialogue – she expresses surprise that the Commander isn't being Plagued by Nightmares, just from her continued presence.

The META counterpart of the Royal Navy's Queen Elizabeth.

  • A God Am I: Demands that you prayers are to HER rather than to an empty sky.
  • Demanding Their Head: Demands this after receiving a special touch.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her red irises make it quite clear that she does not have the same personality as the original.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Zigzaged. Initially she comes across as this with a Dominatrix personality. It becomes subverted as Affinity increases.
  • Locked into Strangeness: Unlike her normal counterpart who is blonde, Queen Elizabeth META appears to have gone Prematurely Grey-Haired.
  • Tsundere: As your Affinity/Sync increases, it becomes clear that she is of the type A variety.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Her noticeable bust, different hair color, and distinct pupils greatly differentiate her from her regular version.

  • Ms. Fanservice: Fishnets? Check. Gratuitous Underboobs? Check, Showgirl Skirt? Check. Zettai Ryouiki? Check — However, much like Fusou META, she lacks the personality to go with said outfit.
  • Samurai Shinobi: Her outfit combines the fishnets and skimpy clothing usually associated with kunoichis with pieces of armor and weapons usually associated with samurais, like laminar shoulder armor and two giant katanas.
  • Shoulders of Doom: Wears a single pauldron in the shape of a Hannya mask .
  • Sibling Team: One of her skills depends on Junyou being part of the fleet.
  • Stance System: Her self-buff depends on whether she has Sakura Empire aircraft equipped or not.
  • Stripperiffic: The most scantily clad META so far.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Seems something happened to her Junyou.

I'm... Junyou. Please give me your orders... Commander.

The META counterpart of the Sakura Empire's Junyou.

  • Childhood Friends: Played with, as she admits they're not actually childhood friends given their origins, but still sees the Commander as such as her affinity grows.
  • Fate Drives Us Together: In her Pledge line, she lets it slip that the pledge itself is proof that they were destined to be together and it wasn't just a figment of her imagination.

"I'm getting all fired up! The name's Hiryuu, Hiryuu from the 2nd CarDiv. As a member of this fleet, I'll obey your orders. I do hope that you are qualified to lead us."

The META counterpart of the Sakura Empire's Hiryuu.

  • Combat Pragmatist: Story-wise, she manages to rope the Commander and his fleet into an encounter with the Arbiters in order to increase their chance to survive the encounter and is not above taking the Commander's offer for a chance of repairs and resupply from the Commander's repair and munition ships during said encounter — an action that initially shocks Ark Royal META until Hiryuu META reminds her that it's ok to use tactics that suddenly become available if you're part of a large fleet instead of hyperfocusing on acting like a lone wolf.
  • Consummate Professional: This Hiryuu is not worried about how cool she looks, how feminine she appears, playing games, or her sister's legs. She is worried about the mission, and that's about it. Even when you raise her affection to its highest level, she still phrases her love for you in terms of her being your sword.
  • Cryptic Conversation: Prone to this during the events of Operation Siren's Chapter 5.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Her Sword Beam inflicts this on targets which survive it. It only affects her own damage, however.
  • Death Dealer: Interestingly, while she doesn't call out a Koi-Koi yaku when activating her barrage skill like her regular self, she makes up for it by (sometimes) launching actual cards, rather than just planes.
  • Defector from Decadence: Sorta. While most Ashes are loosely aligned with each other and keep to themselves, she's, in-story, the 2nd of the Ashes to openly cooperate with the Commander, at least during the fight against The Arbiters, and leaves the door open to openly switch sides to the commander at a later date.
  • More Dakka: Has a whopping three barrage skills (if equipping at least one Sakura Empire aircraft, otherwise just two). And unlike several barrage skills which have a random chance to proc or have specific conditions to trigger (such as taking damage), all three of them have a 100% activation rate at fixed time intervals! The amount of consistent DPS this carrier brings makes most battleships jealous. The trade off is that her aviation stat isn't as high as her normal self's.
  • Sibling Team: Despite no longer receiving buffs directed to Sakura Empire ships such as those from Nagato and Shinano, sortieing Hiryuu META with Souryuu will still activate the latter's Second Carrier Division skill to buff her Aviation stat.
  • Stance System: Equipping a Sakura Empire aircraft of any kind will give her another barrage skill. Equipping no Sakura Empire aircraft will instead grant her a reduction to incoming damage and a buff to her evasion rate.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: During Chapter 5 of Operation Siren, once the Commander proved to be openly against The Arbiters, she decides to align herself with the Commander, at least for that fight.
  • Walking Armory: Carrier armaments aside, she wears two katanas at her hip and carries one in her hand.
  • Worthy Opponent: Believes Enterprise to be this, whether as an enemy or as an ally. Considering this is coming from a META ship, the Enterprise she is referring to may very well be Code G.

"I am Souryuu of the Sakura Empire's 2nd CarDiv. Let's skip the formalities and get to work right away."

The META counterpart of the Sakura Empire's Souryuu.

  • Consummate Professional: Even as META, she's all about business, just like her regular self, perhaps even more so as she had even stopped playing Hanafuda until the Commander brought up playing with her as a way to get close to her.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Was the Boss character during the Mirror Involution event, before finally becoming playable a few months later as part of Operation Siren.
  • Locked into Strangeness: It seems becoming META changed the color of a portion of her hair, giving her a permanent skunk stripe.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Her skin almost appears ashen white.
  • Sibling Team: She benefits from being paired with Hiryuu- both the normal and META one.

"Aircraft carrier Ark Royal, at your service. I hereby vow to lend you my strength for as long as you harbour honourable ambitions!"

The META counterpart of the Royal Navy's Ark Royal.

  • Blood Knight: This is the less charitable interpretation of the rest of her behavior detailed below. No, she's no longer a "destroyer-con", yes she's a lot more confident in her own abilities, but she seems... very eager to come to grips with the enemy, let's say. And equally eager to not let go.
("Love" line) "Put your mind at ease, Commander. Wherever your destination may be, I will follow you to it. Be they towering waves or colossal icebergs, whatever obstacles we encounter, I will tear them down!"
(starting mission) "Show them no mercy!"
(upon obtaining MVP status) "Flee to the ends of the world if you so want, I will still hunt you down!"
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Whatever happened in the META units' timeline to make Code G, Ember, and Hiryuu META so dour did not seem to affect Ark too negatively. Indeed, she is actually more confident and energetic than her Royal Navy original!
(upon login) "Ready to face another day? Splendid!"
(upon returning to dock) "Have no fear. I am always ready for orders!"
(attaining MVP) "Flee to the ends of the world if you so want, I will still hunt you down!"
  • Born Lucky: The only META ship so far to have more than 50 luck, with a Luck value of 87, equaling her normal counterpart.
  • Darker and Edgier: In a first amongst the Ashen and META units we've seen, this seems to have been averted. Arguably even inverted: her gallantry and (apparently) entirely platonic desire to protect destroyers could make the Royal Navy's Ark Royal seem like the Darker and Edgier one!
  • Fireball Eyeballs: Her left eye emits a blue flame.
  • Friend to All Destroyers: Her counterpart's rather...unethical attraction to destroyers has been replaced with a seemingly wholehearted desire to protect them, with no expressed lecherous desires.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Perhaps the most notable case so far in that in-story, as of Chapter 5 of Operation Siren. she's still part of Ashes, but accepted to work with the Commander while trying to get out of an Arbiter ambush.
  • Glass Cannon: Has the same plane loadout as the standard Ark Royal: two torpedo bombers and one dive bomber. This gives her a very poor Air Superiority rating and little defense against enemy aircraft, but enables her to equip multiple Ryusei torpedo bombers for obscene damage against bosses if all (or even most) of the torpedoes find their target. The "Cannon" part is even more pronounced with her multiple barrages and possible 50% damage buff!
  • I Work Alone: In-story, during the events of Chapter 5 of Operation Siren, although she agrees to a temporary alliance when faced by the Arbiters and even takes the Commander's offer on getting repairs and supplies once she's reminded of the benefits of working in conjunction with a large fleet by Hiryuu META. That said, as soon as the fight is over, she quickly leaves.
  • More Dakka: Just like Hiryuu Meta, has a whopping three barrages as a carrier. In Ark's case, though, one of them can fail to trigger (but you instead get a massive damage buff if it does not).
  • Shout-Out:
  • Support Party Member: In Operation Siren, she can reduce the damage your vanguard takes when fighting bosses. A welcome benefit considering how hard some of them can hit. She can also slow her targets, but this is a lot less reliable than her regular counterpart's equivalent as it is on a fixed timer (rather than when the airstrike is launched) and is a scant 20% slow versus the original's 60%. Though they do stack in case you want to sortie both of them together.
  • Sword and Gun: Carries a saber in her left hand and her BFG in her right.

    Yorktown META (Unmarked Spoilers)

Yorktown META

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ytmeta.png

The META counterpart of the Eagle Union's Yorktown.

  • Clones Are People, Too: In "Parallel Superimposition", she apologizes to the Yorktown II within the Reality Lens for asking her to sacrifice herself to secure the Commander's escape from her simulation, but Yorktown II understands the stakes. In exchange, she asks Yorktown META to deliver the present she bought for the Commander, which the latter accepts.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She's first seen in the final scene of "Mirror Involution".
  • The Leader: Her conversation with Helena META seems to imply she leads the group of META ships, or at least holds a position of seniority amongst them.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Her conversation with Helena META seems to imply she still has flashbacks from the events that led to her sinking.
  • Walking Spoiler: The Commander has yet to know of her existence even after "Mirror Involution" and "Parallel Superimposition".

U-556, the Parzival of the Seas, has arrived! Let's see if there's really anything I can help with here. Seeing as I'll be staying here – nice meeting you♪

A temporary META power-up of Iron Blood's U-556. She is, notably, the very first META obtainable via construction, as well as the very first META submarine; and story-wise, the very first META from the main timeline.

  • Fanservice Pack: Zig-zagged; She's bustier than her normal self, but she's also wearing considerably more clothing.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: She wanted nothing more than to be Bismarck's loyal knight and even helped Bismarck survive her fateful clash with the Royal Navy. Unfortunately, the lingering corruption of the Black Cube also affected U-556, culminating in her becoming the first ship from the player's timeline to undergo METAmorphosis. Luckily for her, Vestal META was able to reverse the process before it became permanent.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Her hair is significantly longer than in her base form.
