Heavy Cruisers (CA)

     The Furutaka-class
  • Disc-One Nuke: They drop from a number of maps and can be refitted to have performance roughly equal to Takao.
  • Fanservice Pack: Both of them gain bigger busts post-retrofit, along with midriff-baring tops and more eye-catching poses. This is remarked on by Furutaka who, upon catching the Commander ogling her, notes that some "things" have gotten bigger and invites him to take a closer look.
  • Moveset Clone: The sisters have identical stats pre- and post-retrofit, even their Luck Stat.

"Ah, sorry for bumping into you… Huhh!? You're the Commander?! F-Furutaka, 1st ship of the Furutaka-class, has now arrived arrived! (small voice) Can you forget about what just happened? Ehehe~"

"Second ship of the Furutaka-class, Kako, waiting for orders……despite saying that, just show me whether you're worthy for me to follow."

     The Aoba-class
  • Moveset Clone: Besides Kinugasa's extra 13 points in her Luck Stat, she and Aoba are identical in stats and skills.

"Hmm hmm, I can smell it. This fleet is going to make the headlines! So you're the Commander, huh? Just let me, Aoba, gather all the information without holding back!"

  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: She's the foolish, reckless sibling to Kinugasa's constant worrying.
  • Intrepid Reporter: She's a frequent face in events since she's driven to report on anything exciting or unusual. Just like her KanColle counterpart, this is because Unno Juza, the father of Japanese Sci-Fi novels, was on board the ship during World War II.

Kinugasa

Voiced by: Akari Kageyama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kinugasa_3.png
ID: No. 193
Rarity: Normal
Artist: kisetsu

"Pleased to meet you! I'm Kinugasa. Have you been eating and sleeping well, Commander? Don't be like my big sis... Speaking of which, is she also here by any chance?"

     The Myoukou-class
  • Moveset Clone: Myoukou and Nachi have identical stats and skills besides 4 extra points in Luck for Nachi.
  • Sailor Fuku: All four sisters wear these outfits. Nachi, being the least responsible of the quartet, wears it differently from her sisters, and Haguro wears hers in a manner more consistent with Yanki fashion.
  • Stone Wall: Myoukou and Nachi, especially with their Draw Fire skill to redirect vanguard damage to them. At level 100, they have the third-highest HP stat of all heavy cruisers regardless of rarity, below only Prinz Eugen and a retrofitted Portland, and the third-highest Evasion as well besides retrofitted versions of Portland and Exeter. As a trade-off, they have the second-lowest Torpedo stat and third-lowest Firepower stat among heavy cruisers, above only the other Stone Wall cruisers Norfolk and Dorsetshire.

Myoukou

Rarity: Rare
Artist: kisetsu

"I'm Myoukou, Myoukou-class heavy cruiser ship number 1. Is there anything I can help you with, Commander?"

  • Cool Big Sis: Likes to train the destroyers, and pat their heads. She's also the one who gave Ashigara her walk-man, and she often gives advice to her youngest sister, who takes it all to heart.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Wears only one thighhigh.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The responsible to Nachi's foolish.
  • Hair Wings: Brown feathers that almost look like fox ears.
  • It's All My Fault: If her fleet's defeated, she will say that it's because she was weak, and apologizes to the other ships for letting them down. On the flipside, if she's MVP, she will say that they won because of everyone's efforts, not just her own.
  • Red Armband of Leadership: Given she's the responsible one.

Nachi

Voiced by: Eri Suzuki

"I'm Nachi. Although I was the Sakura Empire's first treaty heavy cruiser, my design is truly impeccable and absolutely perfect. Nice meeting you."

Ashigara

Voiced by: Chiwa Saitō

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ashigara.png
ID: No. 198
Rarity: Elite
Artist:

"Ashigara, reporting for duty. Commander, my blade shall cut down all your enemies."

  • Anachronism Stew: She has a very modern cellphone, attached to what appears a walk-man deck, which is what her retro headphones are plugged into.
  • Big Sister Worship: A good chunk of her lines defer to her sister, Myoukou, for advice, and she reveals that the reason she keeps her walk-man on her is because she records all the advice Myoukou gives her, so she can listen to it when she has free time.
    • She also goes to Nachi for some advice like fashion, resulting in her swimsuit which is VERY flattering on her.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: In her personal quest, she's noted to be a clumsy secretary at first, spilling the commander's tea and losing pens.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: She wears big bulky headphones and is noted to be lacking in social skills. Also, she's wearing them where a human's ears would be, and she has wolf ears, so... That said, other Sakura girls are noted for having two pairs of ears: human ears and animal ears.note
  • Little Bit Beastly: Unlike her sisters Myoukou and Nachi, she is definitively a wolf girl instead of an indistinctive animal. This is a referente to her infamous nickname, "the Hungry Wolf".
  • More Dakka: Her skills give her shots a chance to fire a special barrage.
  • Nice Girl: Is polite and kind to the Commander, to the point that her Upset line has her asking the Commander if she is a nuisance to him.
  • When She Smiles: Her base has a serious default expression and downplayed smiles in that and her new year skin, her swimsuit skin has her with some very radiant smiles.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Her swimsuit skin and partially her new year skin turn her from seemingly a flat and slim girl into one with very noticeable breasts, especially seen in the swimsuit skin, where she gains a very curvy and buxom figure, and her purple hair turns blue.

Haguro

Voiced by: Hana Hishikawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/505px_haguro.png
ID: No. 199
Rarity: Elite
Artist: Unknown

"Guess you're the Commander, huh... Wassup? I'm part of the team now or whatever. You just mind your own biz and I'll mind mine."

  • The Baby of the Bunch: She mentions being fretted over by both Myoukou and Ashigara.
  • Born Lucky: Her base luck stat is 82, referencing her surviving several battles where many other ships were sunk.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her clothing is primarily black, but after some initial standoffishness she becomes more friendly as her affinity grows.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: As her affinity grows she becomes more friendly and even compliments the Commander on a job well done.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She doesn't like being called "a miracle ship" because it didn't allow her to protect her friends in the end.
  • Japanese Delinquents: She wears the longer skirt typical of the Yanki subculture.
  • Meaningful Name: The black feathers around her in her art reference her name, which means "Black Feathers."
  • The Night Owl: Calls herself such, as a reference to how she mostly engaged in night battles.
  • Tengu: Her Animal Motif of crows and the mask she holds both invoke this.

     The Takao-class
  • Balance Buff: On the Dec 22nd update, the "Takao class barrage" skill was change to take only 4 shots to trigger and on the first trigger, gives the ship a 10% evade rate for the rest of the battle.
  • Historical In-Joke: Takao and Atago's large busts are most likely a reference to the fact that the two ships initially had problems with seaworthiness due to their designs being rather top-heavy, eventually resulting in them undergoing a fairly large rebuilding.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Every sister is seen with one, though Takao and Maya seem more fond of actually using them.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Dogs. All four of them have dog ears of various sorts, though they're a bit hard to see on Takao and Choukai due to them blending in with their hair. Takao and Atago both have skins where they are accompanied by a Shiba Inu with the same ears as them.
  • Ms. Fanservice: All the ships are attractive with all but Maya having very curvy figures, even oddball Maya being cute in a way. The older two sisters are quite well known in large part due to this.
  • Rare Random Drop: Both Maya and Choukai are only gotten via the boss node of 8-4 and 12-4 respectively. In contrast Takao is buildable via heavy construction from the get go, and same for Atago (originally an event constructed ship from an early event, she was made permanent pretty fast).

Takao

Voiced By: Ai Kakuma (Japanese), Terri Doty (English), Analiz Sánchez (Latin American Spanish)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takao1.png
ID: No. 200
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: kishiyo

"Are you the Commander? Please allow this lowly Takao to what little strength she has."

  • Canine Companion: An unnamed Shiba Inu follows her in her wedding skin, and appears in battle with her. It also shows up in her "Spring's Learning" skin, but does not follow her into battle there, and it appears in a loading screen with her. A plush toy keychain of it appears on her bag in her school skin. To further link them, the dog has the same ears as Takao's dog ears.
  • The Comically Serious: She takes everything seriously, from fighting to volleyball, and from sand-castles to calligraphy. Becomes heartwarming when she reveals in her wedding skin that she's taken countless bridal training sessions, because she really wants to be a good wife. Atago's character story reveals that Takao once passed out in training due to believing that her own burning spirit would keep her hydrated.
  • Foil: To Atago, more or less. Takao is formal and strict, Atago is more easy-going and informal. Takao speaks in archaic and traditional style, while Atago speaks more or less normal and modern. Takao is shy, and Atago is open. Even their wedding dresses look opposite: Takao's is a traditional hakama, while Atago wears a more modern (and more revealing) white wedding dress.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Has shades of this as while she wears a number of outfits very well, she seems unaware of her charms, a stark contrast to Atago, who is VERY aware of her charms.
  • Panty Shot: As the image shows, Takao's skirt gives a gratuitous view of her underwear.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Slightly subverted; while she wears pantyhose under her uniform skirt, as opposed to Atago's thigh highs, they're sheer enough that you can still see her underwear.
  • The Rival: Her Swimsuit skin has her in a rivalry with Saratoga in various beach activities.
  • Sailor Fuku: In one of her skins.
  • Samurai: Described as one in her Facebook announcement post.
  • Shout-Out: Her design and voice lines have several references to Samurai such as Kenshin Himura (from whom her Warrior Poet tendencies below are taken), Hajime Saito (from whom her Skill Activation linenote  is taken) and Goemon Ishikawa XIII (from whom her MVP linenote  is taken).
  • Warrior Poet: She uses poetic language to describe her life to a tee.
Takao (Details page): Small strokes fell great oaks, constant drops pierce through rock. Those who train through the most humdrum of days shall seize victory in the most critical of moments. That is my belief.

Atago

"Oh my, what a cute commander! Please allow your big sister Atago to take good care of you from now on!"

  • Absurd Phobia: According to Takao, she's afraid of ghosts. Given the presence of Shiranui, who has ghost theme going on, Kagerou and her ghostly turrets, or Eldridge's Astral Projection however, this might not be that absurd. Queen's Orders reveals she's not good with scary things in general, as she was knocked unconscious when Shiranui tricked her and Queen Elizabeth into seeing a horror movie. A character episode in Crosswave has her along with Shiranui and Long Island prank Takao as pay back for being teasted about this.
  • Big Eater: If the anime's ED scene is any indication, she can gobble up a copious amount of rice bowls without much problem and can still keep on going.
  • Canine Companion: Like Takao, she has a Shiba Inu with ears similar to her own, though it only appears in her winter kimono skin.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: In Volume 2 chapter 3 of comic anthology, Atago quarreled with Eugen over Shota Commander and right to become his secretary. She didn't back up even when Akagi and Grap Zeppelin joined to quarrel. They started to a battle which lead to the endangerment Commander's life. Luckily it wasn't Commander at all, but a robot made by Akashi to bait the girls. In the game she has her possessive moments. This references some of the mild possessiveness she has.
  • Comedic Shotacon: Volume 2 chapter 3 of the comic anthology comic which saw the Commander turn into a young boy had Atago's perverted big sister persona go into maximum overdrive as she immediately took the opportunity to strip her shirt to bury the Commander in her chest. She was the first one to make a move on him in fact, and it was all played for laughs. This is not an uncommon portrayal in fan materials.
  • Cool Big Sis: A clear Onee-san type. Ironically, she's not actually the eldest, but some of Takao's lines seem to imply that she still acts as one towards the actual eldest sister. She's also trying to become one to the Commander, too, aggressively so in Queen's Orders.
  • Foil: To Takao, more or less. Takao is formal and strict, Atago is more easy-going and informal. Takao speaks in archaic and traditional style, while Atago speaks more or less normal and modern. Takao is a bit shy regarding normal interaction, and Atago is... not. Even their wedding dresses look opposite: Takao's is a traditional hakama, while Atago wears a more modern (and more revealing) white wedding dress.
  • Historical In-Joke: Her acting like a big sister to all three of her sisters despite not being the eldest is most likely a reference to the fact that she was the first one to be commissioned (About 2 months before Takao was commissioned), despite being laid down at the same time as Takao and Takao being the first one launched (about 1 month before Atago launched).
  • Kill It with Fire: She has a skill that boosts HE damage, burn chance, and burn damage.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: In Queen's Orders, with, of all people, Queen Elizabeth, with both being in love with the Commander, can be quite possessive of him, and jealous of anyone who wants to take him away. Warspite notes that their similarities are probably why Queen Elizabeth can't really stand Atago.
  • Sailor Fuku: In one of her skins.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Has no issues drawing attention to her good looks. In Queen's Orders she even attempts to give sexy photos of herself (including one apparently nude picture) to the Commander, only failed due to Commander being on extended leave from overwork and Queen Elizabeth's intervention. Her chapter, a bonus in the Volume 2 book, takes the series' fanservice to another level, including a shot of her (in her race queen skin) resting on a Meowfficer in such a way its tail is in between her breasts.
  • Shout-Out: Her skill which boosts HE damage is called Arsonist which is an achievement in World of Warships and a reference of her high chance of setting enemies on fire in that game.

Maya

Voiced by: Saori Oonishi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maya_8.png
ID: No. 202
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: kishiyo

"My name's Maya. I am the one who tears the skies in half. I guess you're the commander… I see, just don't come close just cause you feel like it. You'll get hurt."

  • A-Cup Angst: Rarely appears but in a scene in Atago's character story, it's clear that Maya's all too aware of her sisters being ample where she is not.
  • Heel Realization: One of her lines acknowledges the moment the Sakura Empire started attacking other countries, they lost the right to call themselves just. That or the matter of warfare in general.
  • Historical Injoke: Her radically different appearance and skill is a nod to the Legend of origin of Mount Maya. It may also refer to the number of tweaks she recieved that her sisters didn't, like improved Anti-Air guns (in game she has a slightly higher stat than her sisters)
  • Informed Attribute: Choukai being her twin. Fans have taken it to the level of calling her adopted due to the number of differences.
  • More Dakka: She has a skill increasing her reload, and one could build her to reach this trope by heavy cruiser standards; which may compensate for the lack of a skill that would boost her gun damage in any way.
  • Sailor Fuku: Unlike her sisters, this is actually her default outfit.
  • That Came Out Wrong: She gets flustered after talking about how she longs to be near Yamato.
  • Uniformity Exception: Unlike her sisters, she's slim, has short white-haired, and wears a dark school uniform.

Choukai

Voiced by: Ayaka Ohashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/choukai_6.png
ID: No. 203
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: kishiyo

"I have a feeling that we've met a long time ago... I am Choukai, Maya's younger sister. Please take care of me later."

  • Identical Stranger: She looks like younger version of QBZ-95/Type 95 from Girls' Frontline, due to being illustrated by the same artist.
  • Nice Girl: Is quite personable and kind even when her affection is down to "Disappointed" or you gave her the Special Touch, though never shameless like her older sister.
  • Support Party Member: Increases the firepower and torpedo stats of all cruisers.

     The Mogami-class

Mogami (Remodel)

Light Cruiser Mogami turns into a Heavy Cruiser post remodel. Refer to her Light Cruiser section for more details.

Suzuya

Voiced by: Azumi Waki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suzuya.png
ID: No. 382
Rarity: Elite
Artist: momi

"Mogami Class Heavy Cruiser, Suzuya, reporting for duty. Commander, from today on, I will be in your care alright~"

  • Covert Pervert: Several of her secretary lines heavily hint at this, especially her 'Special Touch', where she states she was expecting the Commander to do this to her and offers no resistance or disgust at what is done to her, even giggling about it.
  • Big Sister Worship: Reveres Mogami and is insistent on her ship class being "Mogami-class" as opposed to "Suzuya-class"
  • Ms. Fanservice: No doubt due to her artist doing things of a risque nature, she checks off various boxes with a school girl flavor, be it her shirt strained by her ample bust to her long legs highlighted by her skirt and pantyhose.
    • Shameless Fanservice Girl: While not constantly present, her special touch and oath lines show that she has no issue with risque things.
  • Uniformity Exception: She stands apart from her sisters Mogami and Mikuma; for one, she starts off as a heavy cruiser right away. Her mythological oni theme is downplayed, focusing more on being a high school girl — Suzuya lacks a single oni horn like her sisters, instead having a pair of thinner but longer horns. She's also curvier than her rather slim sisters.

Kumano

Rarity: Elite
Artist:

"Bam! Heavy cruiser, Kumano, ready for action~! Commander, pleased to meetcha~!"

  • Gyaru Girl: Her appearance fits the description.
  • Scary Teeth: She had a lot of teeth, and they appear pointed. It's especially obvious on her Fancy Waves skin.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Unlike Suzuya, she doesn't even try hiding it at all.

     The Ibuki-class

Ibuki

Voiced by: Misato Fukuen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ibuki_1.png
ID: Plan 003
Rarity: Priority
Artist: MayaG

"Was it you who woke me up from my long dream? I am unworthy and still training, but if that is okay with you then please put me to use."

The personification of the Ibuki-class Ibuki, introduced as part of the World of Warships collaboration. She's one of two Priority Rare class ships in the Sakura Empire.

  • Artistic License – History:
    • She uses 10cm carriage mount AA gun instead of historical 127mm guns as secondaries. However, this is intentional by Wargaming/Lesta, since initially she had a more historical loadout, but her secondaries was changed from 127mm to 100mm to buff her AA power.
    • Prior to the 3rd round of Priority Rare ships (which introduced Mainz), she was the only PR ship that actually physically existed, having been laid down, before an order to convert her into a light carrier was issued and underway, and eventually scrapped altogether. Her inclusion as part of the World of Warships collaboration is due to her incarnation in this game being based on Lesta's concept of what Ibuki would be like had she actually been finished as a heavy cruiser.
  • Square Race, Round Class: She's a heavy cruiser with the skillset of a Sakura destroyer (usually very torp heavy), which causes a couple of issues as she can't use the torp buffs from ships like Jintsuu note  and makes her guns largely go to waste as she has no skills to buff them. This makes her better played as a destroyer (focusing more on torpedo strikes and the better guns/armor enabling her to wait out the torpedo reloads).

    The Unzen-class

Unzen

Voiced by: Suzuko Mimori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unzenshipyardicon.png
Full Art
ID: 605
Rarity: Ultra Rare
Artist: Kincora

Personification of the Type 1941 A Cruiser Design Unzen.

  • Animal Motifs: Butterflies, as shown by the butterfly over her left eye and on her rigging.
  • Artistic License – Ships: She was never actually built, and is based on the World of Warships concept for Zao, essentially an improved Takao-class (or rather, Ibuki). To elaborate .
  • Glass Cannon: Unzen hits hard, has a self-buff and self-crit-buff skills, and has 2 torpedo preloads, but has a rather low HP for a heavy cruiser so she cannot tank too much damage. She is essentially a Super Ibuki in gameplay.
  • Impossibly Cool Clothes: Wears a fancy ornate kimono but shows off copious amount of cleavage, sideboob and leg all of the same time.
  • Literal Split Personality: A rather complicated one. In her event story, she is the will of Watatsumi given form called the Great Sage, and later created a clone to contact the Sakura Empire girls. After the Watatsumi lost its power due to withholding the Leviathan (or X as it is called later) in check, the Sage and her clone disappears, but not before Musashi gave said clone a rigging, resulting in the shipgirl Unzen.
  • Love at First Sight: In her debut event, the flashback epilogue has her meeting the Commander (who was younger and still not an officer yet and implied to be still an ensign). After a short talk, she fell for his kindness, and utters her love confession in the most Japanese way possible (which doubles as a Shout-Out to the Japanese writer Natsume Soseki).
???: The moon is lovely tonight, isn't it?
  • Wonder Child: In Effulgence Before Eclipse event, the original "Unzen" is the manifestation of the Watatsumi tree given form, called the "Great Sage" by the Sakura Empire girls. However, after the tree has withered because of the loss of its powers, this incarnation disappears, but not before leaving her clone to Musashi, who then gave her a rigging the Sakura Empire developed beforehand, resulting in the "Unzen" as the shipgirl.

  • Anti-Debuff: While her skills "All-Seeing Eye" and "All-Obscuring Eye" reduces her speed by varying degrees, the latter counters this by increasing her EVA for the duration of the effect(s).
  • BFS: She wields a nodachi which is nearly as long as she is tall, if not longer.
  • Idiot Hair: Her unused art sported one of these.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Her unused art had a blue one.
  • You Don't Look Like You: As part of the Japanese server's 4th anniversary, she was announced as a playable unit for the upcoming Upon the Shimmering Blue event, with a radically different design from her unused art that puts her closer in appearance to Atago but as a rabbit-girl.
