https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/300px_northunion_orig.png

Ship prefix: SN

Representing the Voyenno-Morskoy Flot SSSR/Soviet Navy. Prior to 2020, there was not much known about this faction due to it being represented by vessels which were either depicted as Eastern Radiance forces (represented by the four Gnevny-class destroyers which are now museum ships of the PRC) or were of sharply limited availability (largely down to major anniversaries). It would most likely be an "Azur Lane" faction, given how Russia ultimately sided with the allies. Winter's Crown show that the Royal Navy supplies them, but implies that, much like in Real Life, theirs is an alliance of convenience, and several Royal Navy ships believe that the Northern Parliament will eventually betray them.

Faction-Wide Tropes

  • Ascended Meme: The Abyssal Refrain event includes a new accessory, named after Sekrit Dokuments.
  • A-Team Firing: Invoked; the Mirror Sea is screwing with their targeting, so they just stop aiming properly and go for Saturation Area Bombardment, operating on the principle of "Throw enough shit at the wall and some of it will stick".
  • The Baroness: Chapayev, Gangut, Sovetskya Rossiya and to a certain extent, Avrora, are based on the old Soviet Sexpot variant. The Khorovod of Dawn's Rime event also adds Sovetskaya Beloryssiya, Kirov, and Tallinn more Sexpots with Tallinn and Sovetskaya Beloryssiya sporting a Commissar Cap to make the resemble The Political Officer. Sovetsky Soyuz is also dressed as one in her old CG images as an NPC.
  • Chummy Commies: With the faction's expansion during Northern Overture, we get to meet a great deal more of them, and while they're still as eccentric as any other faction they're still quite friendly. Unlike the Crimson Axis who are Lighter and Softer in that they don't seem to be overtly Fascistic and possibly avert Nazi Protagonist, the ships of the Northern Union make references to a revolution while the loading screen for the Northern Parliament explicitly states they were built upon collectivistic ideals and solidarity. The English Azur Lane Twitter account also explicitly uses hammer and sickles for announcing their ships, indicating that they still practice Communism.
    • Interestingly, an old loading screen claimed they were corporatist, which is an economic ideology practiced by social democrats and certain strains fascism.
    • While "Comrade" is their favorite compliment, Kirov also calls Akashi and Queen Elizabeth "Bourgeois Swine" if fighting with them, but nonetheless states they'll unite together as allies.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Avrora predates the rest of her faction proper (even the 4 destroyers given to Eastern Radiance), and her rigging is quite normal. The only other ships in the faction with such normal rigging are Gangut and pre-retrofit Pamyat Merkuria.
  • The Gulag: Fitting for Soviet era ships, the first custom skins for this faction, released in "Northern Overture", are all gulag themed with Chapayev and Avrora as shackled prisoners with torn clothing while Gangut and Sovetskya Rossiya are wardens. It's obviously all played for light BDSM-styled fanservice.
  • Hammer and Sickle Removed for Your Protection: Averted as far as marketing for the faction is concerned, where the English Azur Lane Twitter and Youtube account use Hammer and Sickle icons for Northern Parliament related announcements.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: The current English version prefers to call them the "Northern Parliament" (though "Northern Union" does crop up during Z20's self-description), although those who track the Chinese version note that North Union makes more sense for the hanzi used (and the idea does seem to be for the Eagle Union and North Union to, like in real life, have similar names, whereas the official English appeared to be attempting a One-Steve Limit with the nation names prior to Sardegna doubling up on the game's "empires"). World of Warships and its second round of its collaboration with Azur Lane lends credence to the latter, as it refers to the faction as Northern Union.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While the Cold War levels of hostility between the faction and the rest of Azur Lane are intense, especially over who gets to utilize the Commander to coordinate their activates, their demands to keep him aren't unfounded given the amount of story related revelations they encounter amid their events, which the Commander himself notes.
  • Magikarp Power: The main gimmick of their faction. Stat-wise, most of the ships are somewhat mediocre, but they have a wide variety of self- or fleet-wide buffs that make them much stronger, though they tend to come with some sort of restriction on time or number of battles.
  • Multinational Team: The Northern Parliament roster mostly consists of shipgirls originating from Russia/USSR proper (including some with Ukrainian, Belarusian, Estonian and Uzbek builders and namesakes). That being said, there are several non-Russians shipgirls serving under their banner: Tallinn note , Murmansk note , Arkhangelsk note  and Tashkent note .
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Eagle Union suspects they're experimenting with Siren Tech, just like Crimson Axis did. Most of their rigging is quite monstrous, just like Iron Blood ships.note  It is very likely that this is a Historical In-Joke considering that the Russians got their hands on a sizable portion of Nazi Germany's technological advancements after the end of World War II and ended up starting the Cold War against the west after the conclusion of World War II, suggesting that a similar outcome is likely to happen between Eagle Union and North Union, which were the AL world equivalents of United States and Russia respectively, after the Crimson Axis has been neutralized within the story of Azur Lane.
  • Older Than They Look: Several of the Northern Parliament girls are based on ships dating back to World War I or earlier, with Avrora being the most prominent (she was laid down before the turn of the century).
  • Phenotype Stereotype: All of them have pale skin, hair and eyes. Even Pamiat's black hair has a notable paleness to it. The more mature-looking ships are also all buxom Sensual Slavs. Essentially, these ships crawled straight out of a Cold War movie or are right at home with typical anime stereotypes of Russian women. The second event, "Khorovod of Dawn's Rime", does add a bit of variety to their appearances (Gremyashchy is a light brunette, among other things, but it's still pale hair), though they still mostly wear white.
    • Double Subverted with Tallinn; her status as a former Ironblood ship, an Admiral Hipper-class named Lutzow, and is thus German in origin. However, as she shares the same white hair and buxom proportions as her Admiral Hipper sister Prinz Eugen, she looks the part without context anyway, especially after she changed her name from Lutzow to Tallinn and dons Soviet Baroness clothing.
    • Volga is the exception, having red/brown hair, and a seemingly darker complexion than the other Russian ships
  • Sensual Slavs: Aside from the destroyers, the Northern Parliament ships introduced so far are attractive and play up common Russian stereotypes (such as being modeled like The Baroness and drunkenly loving Vodka) for fanservice. Even the Northern Parliament shipgirls who are not Russian in origin such as Tallinn, Arkhangelsk, or Murmansk (to a lesser degree) play this straight.
    • Khorovod of Dawn's Rime adds skins themed around casual and evening-wear (with an emphasis on "casual" meaning "casual states of undress") for Northern Parliament shipgirls to play the fanservice further. "Abyssal Refrain" added police and outlaw themed skins for more Northern Parliament shipgirls, and they are also similarly played for fanservice.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Possibly; During the events of Northern Overture Azur Lane notes that their rigging is similar to that of the Iron Blood, showing possibbly research into Siren tech on the sly, and in Aurora Noctis they are pretty hellbent and shifty about wanting to make sure the Commander stays with them, whatever it takes, for as yet unknown reasons. The suspicion between them and the Western navies however, is somewhat justified due to the conflicting ideologies they have, with the actual Soviet and Western nations not getting along for similar reasons.
    • This is probably best exemplified at the post story of Khorovod of Dawn's Rime when Azur Lane arrives to collect the commander from the North Union and less request they be transferred over immediately and more demand it. The hostility is so thinly veiled even the commander is convinced they can't stop it from getting ugly. Hornet coldly suggests the North Union has suddenly come up with yet another reason to keep the commander, and given what happened during the event she's right. Were it not for Soyuz's intervention things would have gotten violent, and even then Belorussiya is still furious that they're losing the commander. However, given how much of a Wham Episode the event is, their desires to keep him can also fall into Jerk Ass Has A Point, as the Commander too notes their desperation.
  • Vodka Drunkenski: No fewer than three Northern Parliament ships (Avrora, Grozny, Gangut) are portrayed either drinking vodka or making some kind of reference to it in their lines. Even Kirov who prefers coffee spikes it with Vodka. Queen's Orders shows QE, Warspite and Valiant visiting the Northern Union's tent for an upcoming get-together, only to find every single one of them (bar Pamiat Merkuria, and she doesn't last much longer) passed out drunk and a veritable mountain of empty vodka bottles.

ID: No. 432
Rarity: Elite
Artist: Shisantian

"Ура! How's that, what'd ya think? Huh? Where I'm from, they said you're supposed to surprise the people you're greeting! What, I'm the one being welcomed?! Sorry, I mixed something up!"

  • Hero Worship: She really admires Avrora, though she wants to downplay it.
  • Magnetic Hero: Sorta. She always talks about inspiring others.

     The Tashkent-class

Tashkent

Voiced by: Shiori Izawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tashkentshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 433
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Kincora

"I'm Tashkent. Some call me the Blue Cruiser. Another comrade who wants to woo me? It's just about recruitment...? I see. What a hopeless fellow you are."
  • Adorably Precocious Child: She is puzzled why people seem to like approaching her despite her attempts to be cold and distant.
  • An Ice Person: "The Blue Cruiser" skill summons an ice fairy called Snezhinka ("snowflake" in Russian), which fires icy projectiles that slows down enemy ships.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Nicknamed the "Blue Cruiser," even though she's actually a destroyer.note
  • Third-Person Person: She refers to herself by her own name in conversations.

     The Gnevny-class
For the ships transferred to the People's Republic of China Navy, see Azur Lane Eastern Radiance under Anshan-class. (It is worth noting here that Chang Chun does have a skill that can interact with her northern sisters.)

Grozny

Voiced by: Chiyo Tomaru

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/groznyshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 431
Rarity: Elite

"здра́вствуйте, comrade Commander. I am Gnevny-class destroyer Grozny, reporting for duty... What is the matter, comrade Commander? The item in my right hand? This is my lovely кролик. It's a cute убийца."

  • Animal Motifs: Rabbits.
  • Expy: With her rabbit motif, constant drinking, and focus on guns over torpedoes, she could easily pass for Laffey's Russian cousin. She acknowledges Laffey in one of her lines, although not by name.
  • Hidden Depths: Her casual wear skin has her working on a retrofit for her rigging. Only time will tell if it's foreshadowing for a retrofit.

Gromky

Voiced by: Yurie Kozakai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gromkyshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 499
Rarity: Elite
Artist:

"Goooood morning, Comrade! I'm the Northern Parliament destroyer, Gromky! It's an honor to serve alongside everyone in this fleet!"

  • Historical In-Joke: She mentions meeting some of the Dragon Empery girls as nostalgic, which makes sense since she was transferred to the PLNA as one of the Anshan-class destroyers.
  • Uniformity Exception: The Anshan-class destroyer that appears in-game under its previous affiliation and classification.

Gremyashchy

Voiced by: Marina Yamada

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gremyashchyshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 497
Rarity: Elite
Artist: zelda10010

"I'm Gremyashchy, Grozny-class destroyer. I didn't just do escort missions, I squared off with enemy destroyers and rescued allies too. I've done almost everything, save for dealing with aircraft carriers, so I'm fit for pretty much any mission. Mm, that's all."

  • Badass Bookworm: Her "A Daytime Delight is in a Book" skin establishes her as one, with plenty of overlap with Cute Bookworm.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Anger Gromky at your own peril when Gremyashchy is around.
  • Catchphrase: "That's all." Ends enough of her sentences with it that it's a Verbal Tic.
  • Character Shilling: The sole purpose of one story segment in Khorovod of Dawn's Rime is to have the Commander and her Northern Parliament allies praise her combat abilities. An optional dialog choice will even have the Commander spend multiple lines praising the beauty of her scarf.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: It takes all the way until the Love affinity for her to lose her doubts and skepticism about you.
  • Elites Are More Glamorous: Khorovod of Dawn's Rime establishes her as a Guardian, a prestigious title awarded to the best soldiers that the Northern Parliament's forces have to offer. None of the other Northern Parliament characters introduced to date have been mentioned to be one. Possibly a reference to her impressive service record in Real Life as an escort ship.
  • Epic Flail: Dispatches Sirens and Dreamworld denizens with it in Khorovod of Dawn's Rime. Sadly, she can't use it in-game.
  • Foot Focus: So much so in her "A Daytime Delight is in a Book" skin that her Special Touch is on her feet!note
  • Historical In-Joke: Has a special line when engaging a boss with Edinburgh, where she gives her a Declaration of Protection.note
  • No-Sell: Has a chance to dodge all attacks every 20 seconds. The duration on this skill is rather short compared to other ships with similar skills, but it comes accompanied by a free round of torpedoes.
  • Symbolic Wings: Her scarf is shaped like a pair of angel wings. If you consider idle animations in the dorm to be canon, however, it appears to be totally functional as a flying device.

Stremitelny

Voiced by: Momoki Kakimura

     The Ognevoy-class

Ognevoy

Voiced by: Narumi Kaho

ID: No. 626
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist:

"Hi, Comrade Commander! I'm Ognevoy, Project 30K destroyer of the Northern Parliament! Check out my rigging! Isn't it the cutest you've ever seen?"

     The Storozhevoy-class

Soobrazitelny

Voiced by: Miharu Hanai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soobrazitelnyshipyardicon.png

ID: No. 537
Rarity: Elite
Artist:

"Ahh-ha-ha-haah! Comrade! I am Soobrazitelny, the Northern Parliament's genius mechanic! Look no further than me for all matters related to machinery!"

  • Goggles Do Nothing: She brags about her safety goggles in one of her voice lines, but is never seen actually wearing them.
  • Mad Scientist: Depicted as such in her Machinery of Life skin. To the point of making "Mechajuu" minions out of Manjuus.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name, Soobrazitelny, is the Russian word for "astute" or "quick-witted," and thus is appropriate for her self-styled title of "Genius Mechanic."
  • Neat Freak: Several of her lines have to do with eliminating dust in her workshop and the Commander's office.
  • Wrench Wench: She loves machines, and knows her way around them.

     The Kiev-class

Kiev

Voiced by: Himika Akaneya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kievshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 535
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist:

"I'm Kiev, Project 48-class destroyer of the Northern Parliament. From now on, I'll be assisting you with all manner of things, Commander... W-was that, umm, a good enough introduction?"
  • Animal Motif: Kiev's base skin is accompanied by four spirit-like wolves, in addition to a living wolf by her side.
  • The Cutie: Kiev has an adorable appearance and mannerisms, as well as heartwarming higher-affection lines.
Kiev: To think I'm taking an oath with the one I love... I'm overjoyed, blissful, warm inside, thawing like snow under the sun into a puddle... Commander, is it fine if I... melt in your arms?
  • Hates Being Alone: Many of her lines hint at this from asking if she can wait at the door of the Commander's office when logging in or simply being together to collect mission rewards, to openly expressing feeling heartache when separated. Post-Oath, being near the Commander after a sortie puts her at ease.
    • Her mentioning of only being trusted to raise cacti due to their ability to survive through neglect as an idle line returns as she says she does not want to be like a cactus out of fear of becoming neglected.
  • Holding Hands: Presented as a request to the Commander through her touch line in the Backstreet Silver Sonata skin.
  • More Dakka: Kiev's skill "Can I Attack Now?" is focused on sending a barrage in the first five seconds and every ten seconds after, becoming stronger over the next two barrages per battle.

Light Cruisers (CL)

     The Pallada-class

Avrora

Voiced by: Marie Miyake

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avrorashipyardicon.png
ID: No. 262
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Yumesaki Kaede

"Здравствуйте! Avrora, arriving to post. Along with the light of dawn, I’ll bring you victory."
  • The Alcoholic: Expect Vodka to come up a good deal in her lines.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Unlike Howe, who can barely even get into her roleplay character, Avrora's gangster persona is convincing, even dropping into a low contralto. However, see Mean Character, Nice Actor below.
  • Captain Ersatz: With her fair skin, braided, snowy hair and blue eyes, she's a dead-ringer for Honkai Impact 3rd's Kiana Kaslana. Their surface personalities are quite different however.
  • Crutch Character: Appears to have been designed this way with her lower SSR stats and powerful buff to help a fledgling frontline until eventually the player gets stronger ships.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Her outfit is not entirely practical for Russia's weather, but she seems to be unworried about it; though one line suggests it's in part due to the warming power of Vodka. One of her voice lines even has her state she can go completely naked in the cold with no issues before coyly asking her commander if they'd like her to prove it.
  • False Friend: Sheffield doesn't believe she should be trusted, though it's unclear if this is actually the case or if Sheffield is just being paranoid.
  • Fluffy Tamer: 'Slow Ahead' reveals she has a bear as a pet (that she forgot for a time) that appeared due to the smell of Vodka. That implies she used it to tame the bear.
  • Gratuitous Russian: Several of her lines has her speaking bits of Russian.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: A little too nice, in fact, since it stops her from maintaining her otherwise convincing hardened gangster persona for more than a few seconds without her innate sweetness popping right back out, and even getting bothered by what she had to say.
  • Mighty Glacier: A rarity for light cruisers, she carries torpedoes and gets +1 to her main gun, giving her the main battery firepower of all-gun light cruisers, as well as the burst damage of torpedo cruisers, and she's one of the few light cruisers with 'medium' armor, but she's also the slowest vanguard ship in the game, with only Yat Sen sharing her glacial movement speed, and the two also have the second worst evasion of all light cruisers, with only the Mogamis having worse due to being essentially heavy cruisers in disguise.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She has no problems with the commander making moves on her and is very affectionate. Her outfits also do little to hide her shapely body, especially her "Not Cut Out For This?" skin, which shows off her midriff and sizeable chest.
  • Nice Girl: Even at the lowest affection level she's only sad she can't reach out to the commander. Her skin where she attempts to act as a crass mafia boss is appropriately named "Not Cut Out For This?", because she does try to put on a reasonably convincing gangster demeanor, but still sounds too sweet and can't keep it up for more than a few seconds at best, because she's just that much of a sweetie. She even has to remind herself that she's " now a bad girl," and when threatening those who cross her with "unbearable punishment," she promptly drops her character and offers the offender a big hug instead. Mikasa and Gangut find her feeble attempts to act mean hilarious.
  • Older Than They Look: Like IJN Mikasa, she was laid down... IN THE 19th CENTURY! She is the only ship from her era to still be flying the Russian Naval Jack as a museum ship and is thus the oldest Russian ship as a whole to still do so. As a result, she was, in real life terms, the oldest ship on the cast for years, having been laid down in 1897 and in the water since May 1900 (Mikasa officially touched water a few months later in November and was laid down in '99 and built speedily). It was only with the introduction of the cruiser Hai Chi, more than four and a half years after the game's initial release, that finally saw Avrora unseated as the oldest ship in the game.
  • Pre-Order Bonus: She is the standard beta tester reward when a new regional server is opened and is only typically made available again during anniversaries, particularly the first anniversary of any given regional Service. This made her something of a Permanently Missable Content ship, but the advent of Northern Overture, the first full-fledged event centered on the Northern Union, finally brings her back as part of the event pool alongside brand new ships for the faction. After the event concluded, she became a permanent addition to the light construction pool.
  • Red October: One of the first stages of the Bolshevik Revolution was a mutiny on the Avrora.
  • Spell My Name With An S: The game uses Russian transliteration for her name instead of translated Aurora. This is in part because of HMS Aurora also being in the game.
  • Stripperiffic: Much like South Dakota, whom she shares an artist with, Avrora has a skin where she has her areola peeking out. In this case it's her Shackled Saule skin and when inspected closely enough it's obvious that her erect nipple is the only thing holding up the right side of her tattered dress.
  • Support Party Member: Her only skill boosts all damage of the front line by up to 35%, it's a bit more heavily enforced due to her rather weak offensive stats.
  • The Tease: Avrora is very flirtatious from the moment you acquire her. She's almost constantly teasing about what she might do once she has a few drinks in her or claiming she's comfortable in the cold completely nude while asking if her commander would like her to prove it.

     The Bogatyr-class

Pamiat Merkuria

Voiced by: Maya Yoshioka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pamiat_merkuriashipyardicon.png
Pamiat' Merkuria (Retrofit)

ID: No. 434
Rarity: Elite
Artist: Byulzzi

"Yoohoo, Commander! I'm *the* Pamiat Merkuria, light cruiser from the Northern Parliament! Nice meeting you! Do your thing and work your butt off for me♪"

  • Balance Buff: The event "Khorovod of Dawn's Rime" gave her a retrofit that gave her a stat boost, MGM+1 and the capability to use destroyer guns, and a new skill that increases her accuracy and Torpedo stat (in game description erroneously says "anti-air") while having chances to create a barrage that slows down enemies.
  • Big Eater: Is fond enough of eating that her "punishment" in her prison skin is being denied tasty food.
  • Born Lucky: She has a 88 luck stat; lending her some potential tanking ability with the rest of her kit.
  • Breakout Character: Pamiat Merkuria endeared herself quickly to the playerbase due to being a cutesy, cheeky shortstack. It reached the point that she had a 3D model (to date, a honor shared with Akashi, Sirius, Dido, and Le Malin), further increasing her popularity and allowing her to "host" a semi-regular stream a la VTubers. She was also the star (as opposed to the higher rarity ships of the same event) of the Slow Ahead chapter during her event's first run.
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Played for laughs, but her back does this in various side materials as well as one of her idle lines.
  • Older Than She Looks: Despite her cute appearance, she is indeed up there with Mikasa and Avrora and she won't let you forget it for long.
  • The Slacker: She'd rather just slack off in the base instead of fighting.
  • Smug Smiler: A smug (but cute) smile is a common expression.
  • Stone Wall: At base she lends herself to some damage soaking (high luck, medium armor for a CL, average evade, and a skill that can no sell attacks), though she doesn't have much ability to dish it out.
    • Averted with her retrofit. She can now equip destroyer guns (which have higher DPS than light cruiser guns), gained an additional barrage, and has a flat boost to her Torpedo and Accuracy stats at all times. She can now dish it out and take it in roughly equal measure.
  • The Tease: She seems to heavily enjoy teasing the commander. Her special touch has her ask if the commander likes them big.

     The Chapayev-class

Chapayev

Voiced by: Masumi Tazawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chapayevshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 436
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Gujianshaonv

"So you're the Commander? Hehe, I like what I see... Ah, excuse me. I'm Chapayev, a light cruiser from the Northern Parliament. Let's get along~"
  • Kill It with Fire: Her Cavalier of the Ether ability lets her fire a special barrage that can inflict burn damage to those hit by it.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Among the standouts in the North Union- she wears a form-fitting shirt that exposes her cleavage, a short skirt and pantyhose that does little to hide her legs, and high heels for good measure. She is even The Tease and doesn't mind doing BDSM-style bondage to the Commander (or the Commander doing it to her, as seen in her prison skin). Her sleepwear skin is the most actively seductive of the bunch to boot.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: In addition to being The Tease, all of her portraits (default uniform, prisoner and sleepwear) emphasize her large chest to the Commander, with Chapayev posing in a way to make sure it'll be the first thing you'll notice about her. She's also open about doing bondage with the Commander or having him do it to her.
  • The Tease: Her intro quote and many other lines are her teasing the Commander with suggestive remarks.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Throught most of her affection and pre-oath lines, she comes off as a sweethearted, soft-spoken, friendly tease. Cut to marrying her and you learn she is a deeply dominant BDSM dominatrix that forces you to wear a bridle around in public, whether you like it or not, practically owns you as a pet and rules your life, from when you get to eat, to when and how you get to see other people. Suffice to say, a number of players didn't especially like this and some have speculated it contributed to her comparatively sub-par popularity.

Kuybyshev

Voiced by: Rio Tsuchiya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/144px_kuybyshevshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 577
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist:

"It is an honor and a joy to meet you, Commander. I am Kuybyshev, light cruiser of the Northern Parliament. Let us steel our hearts to weather the war ahead."

  • A Day in the Limelight: Most of the joint operation event Winter Pathfinder memories are through Kuybyshev's perspective.
  • Bandaged Face: She's bandaged on the right side of her face in both default and Maestro of Sterling Strings skins.
  • Coat Cape: Wears a..."rather large" winter coat and with how it hangs off of her shoulders, it flows more like a cape.
  • Expy: References to Rei Ayanami were almost immediate after the reveal, given Kuybyshev's hair, eyes, and aforementioned bandages. Her actual character is quite different however.
  • Hartman Hips: Compared to Chapayev, Kuybyshev's design trades the emphasis of bust by being smaller for shapely hips and (exposed) thighs.
  • Heal Thyself: The support skill Hope is Calamity's Handmaiden restores up to 8% of her max HP if she loses 25% of it once per battle.
  • In-Series Nickname: Pathfinder. Her offensive skill also references this - Unyielding Pathfinder.
  • Motivated by Fear: Invokes this as a mission start line. Summary executions not included. Thankfully.
Kuybyshev: "Fear me! Then, follow my lead!"
  • Nice Girl: A sweetheart that cares for the Commander by various means, whether it's to keep them warm, providing food after a mission, or watching out for their mental health.
  • Status Buff: In addition to the heal above, her support skill adds up to 15% more Firepower and Accuracy. She also receives up to 10% less damage from cannons if the fleet has other Northern Parliament ships.
  • Support Party Member: Northern Parliament ships in the vanguard fleet deal up to 30% additional critical damage.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Swiss-Army Rigging in this case, as in addition to the expected naval guns, Kuybyshev's rigging includes a bucket-wheel excavator.
  • Through His Stomach: Offers borscht to the Commander after sorties.

     The Kirov-class

Kirov

Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirovshipyardicon.png
ID: No. 435
Rarity: Super Rare
Artist: Nagu

"I am the child of a union between our unprecedented country and a free spirit! Now, Comrade Commander, let us achieve great things together!"
  • Art Evolution: Her playable version sports completely new artwork, which added new details to her costume and made her pose more dynamic and gallant. Compare her original art from her introduction as an NPC in the Northern Overture event to her playable version. An artist change may be involved. Unlike most cases of NPC to playable changes, it is acknowledged in universe via the NPC look being in a window reflection and her Japanese introduction tweet remarked on the change.
  • Bland-Name Product: Her Blend R skin depicts her owning obvious stand-ins for a Macbook and a Moccamaster coffee maker.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: The first time her special barrage triggers per fight, it will cause this.
  • Gratuitous Russian: She's Russian and she's voiced by Sumire Uesaka. It would be bizarre if this weren't present. Oddly enough, in the English and Japanese versions, her subtitles opt for translating her Russian phrases, a departure from previously released Northern Parliament ships keeping the untranslated Cyrillic in their lines.
  • Hypocrite: For how she calls Akashi and Queen Elizbeth "bourgeois swine", having a laptop that's akin to a Macbook (instead of a robust and "proletarian" Windows machine) and a coffee machine inspired by Moccamaster (thus costly) is rather bourgeois in itself and would get looked down upon by the actual Soviets.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Her "Blend R" skin shows that she enjoys her coffee enough to own a $300 USD coffee maker and experiment with making her own blends.
  • Long-Range Fighter: She gets a bonus to the effective range of her gun battery.
  • Shout-Out: The name of her first skill is "Kirov, Reporting!"
  • Sideboob: Her "Blend R" skin trades her usual cleavage for a sideshot that shows her side boob looking like it's trying to pop out for dear life.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Making the most out of her second skill requires both that her opponent is a Light Cruiser and that her fleet contains Northern Parliament battleships.
  • Sword Pointing
  • Take a Third Option: Upon oathing her, she mentions a hypothetical situation in which you must choose between saving your lover or saving the world. She believes you should save both, and that you are a fool if you choose anything else.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: If you sortie her with Akashi or Queen Elizabethnote , she will outright call them bourgeois swine, but will nonetheless fight alongside them to the fullest.
  • Vodka Drunkenski: Subverted; her drink of choice is coffee. That has been spiked with vodka.

"We finally meet, Comrade Commander. I am Voroshilov, light cruiser of the Northern Parliament. Hm? I don't think I was waiting that long... I mean, it was only a few hours. That's not so bad, is it?"
  • An Ice Person: The skill Voroshilov's Icebind adds a special ghost secondary gun that fires ice crystals every two seconds. Enemies hit suffer a stacking 2% Speed penalty of up to 20% for four seconds.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She starts off stating there's no need to seek her out unless it's work-related, but over time repeatedly slips out mention of a plan to be close with the Commander. While she still isn't up-front about it, she's nonetheless happy about the outcome during the Oath ceremony. A post-Oath line even mentions how the ice (Voroshilov) melted because of the Commander.
  • Dodge the Bullet: Voroshilov has the second-highest Evasion attribute of all light cruisers and a rare skill combination through Revolutionary Composure which both adds an immediate 8% increase to Evasion Rate through the battle and a 15% bonus to the Evasion attribute when her AA guns fire. Interestingly, it lowers her Speed.
  • Giant Handsof Doom: Her rigging in general is basically a pair of giant mechanical hands which Voroshilov stands atop of.
  • The Strategist: Though not explained, she has planned out emergency escape routes to egress from the Commander's office and has devised the "Conquer the Commander" strategy.

"Zdravstuvuyte, Comrade~ I'm the Omaha-class light cruiser, Milwaukee, reporting for duty~ Oh, did I slip up? ...Ahaha, sure did. I'm Murmansk, from the Northern Parliament. It's a pleasure to meet you~"

  • Foil: To Tallinn. Both are Northern Parliament cruisers imported from other nations, and both were introduced in the same event. However:
    • Murmansk is as nice as nice gets even at lower affection levels. Tallinn is a Tsundere who starts off harsh and domineering but gains a softer side over time as you raise her affection.
    • Murmansk has adapted well to life in the Parliament, having developed a taste for vodka and some proficiency at the language. Tallinn seems to be a Fish out of Water in the Parliament, outright refusing to drink vodka in favor of the Ironblood favorite beer. She also never says a word of Russian that isn't a name.
    • Murmansk has also made friends with her Northern Parliament comrades and never mentions any of her former Eagle Union cohorts. The only Parliament shipgirl that Tallinn seems to tolerate is Kirov, to the extent she gets along better with Admiral Hipper than any of them.
    • In a bit of Gameplay and Story Integration with the above, Murmansk completely lacks the signature Quick Reload skill of the Omaha-class ships of the Eagle Union (save for Richmond) — indeed, she has no Reload-buffing skill whatsoever.note  Meanwhile, Tallinn retains the signature shields found on many Ironblood cruisers, and gets bonuses when equipping Northern Parliament or Iron Blood main guns.
  • The Law of Diminishing Defensive Effort: The skill that reduces all of her Armor-Piercing damage taken? "Laid-Back Defending."
  • Little Bit Beastly: Has multiple bushy tails. They're fake, though.
  • Nice Girl: Sweeter than a barrel of honey. Special Touching her only slightly annoys her, and even that stops after you oath her. Even when you get her to Disappointed affinity, she's more concerned about your well-being than anything.
Murmansk: (when Disappointed) Is there something wrong? I'm worried about you...
  • Sensual Slavs: Subverted, she's of Eagle Union heritage as an Omaha-class, and while the Eagle Union does have girls with multiple phenotypes as per the real life USA, she still has to adjust to presenting herself as a Russian Northern Parliament woman. That and unlike even some of her sisters, her design is more on the cute side.
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: Girly as can be, and she stitched together the fake tails on her outfit herself. Her "Sceneries of Pure Snow" skin shows her owning baskets full of weaving supplies.
  • Token Enemy Minority: Averted at least for now as while she's of American or Eagle Union descent, the Eagle Union and Northern Parliament aren't openly hostile with each other or in a true Cold War yet like the Americans and Soviets were after World War II, Teeth-Clenched Teamwork aside.
  • Valley Girl: While she's certainly not stupid, she is a huge fan of chatting and gossiping with people, will occasionally space out as your secretary, and seems to take a rather flippant and low-effort attitude towards combat if her skill names are any indication.

"The name's Tallinn, heavy cruiser from the Northern Parliament. Don't expect me to blindly take orders from you just because you're the commander. Use that head of yours to think things through first, then we'll talk."
  • Counter-Attack: Similar to Mainz, Tallinn possesses a self-shielding skill and will fire a special barrage if it is broken.
  • German Russians: Due to being an Admiral Hipper-class Ironblood ship in origin, she's an "ethnic" German working for the Soviet based Northern Parliament.
  • Historical In-Joke: Her status as an Admiral Hipper class ship alludes to the fact that a Kriegsmarine ship named Lutzow of the same class was sold to the Soviet Red Navy in the brief truce period between the two nations invading Poland and then declaring war on each other (interestingly, the two navies never had a meaningful engagement throughout the war). Lutzow was her old name.
  • Meaningful Appearance: As an Admiral Hipper class ship, she combines her sisters' designs, that is, the actual Admiral Hipper in Iron Blood, Prinz Eugen. as well as Weser to a certain point. Notably, her hair is styled like the former, but has the same gray hair color, alongside the same red stripe as Prinz Eugen (though on the other side), while having Weser's full figure. (the last one doubles as a Historical In-Joke as both Seydlitz, Weser's original cruiser form, and Lutzow/Tallin has the same largest displacement among the Hipper sisters at 20,100 tons full load.
  • Sensual Slavs: Subverted, she has a German Russians status due to her background as an Admiral Hipper-class Ironblood ship, making her a Ms. Fanservice German and not a Slav even though she's presenting herself like the other Russian-based girls in the Northern Parliament, and has the pale hair associated with them anyway.
  • Token Enemy Minority: She was an Admiral Hipper class as part of Iron Blood.
  • Trademark Favorite Drink: Contrary to what her membership in the Northern Parliament fleet would imply, beer is her favorite beverage. In her Juustagram post and one of her secretary lines, she also expresses her love of beer, while also appearing frightened by the aspect of vodka when asked.
  • Tsundere: To a greater extent than Admiral Hipper (her sister ship); Tallinn starts off domineering and strict, and effectively remains so as you raise her affection levels. Even in her Love and Oath lines she still implicitly insults you and dominates your life.

"You're the boss around here? Good. Don't bother trying to tell me what I can and can't do; I'll prove my worth to you my own way. That's all I wanted to say."

The personification of a large cruiser proposal known as Project "X" and the Northern Parliament's second CA after the introduction of Tallinn in February 2021.

  • Action Pet: Kursk's base art and chibi sprite are both accompanied by a snowy owl. Said owl also delivers mail in her Lone Wolf Amid the Steam skin.
  • Animal Motifs: Wolves. In addition to the skin name above, the narration of Frostfall establishes this with the introduction of the Wolf Unit, which is led by Kursk. She is notably taciturn with a preference of being alone and handles her missions in the manner of a hunter - methodical and instinctual.
  • Artistic License – History: Without Project "X" going beyond the concept phase, Kursk is a representation of the completed project. In reference to its specifications, Frostfall adds the 240mm triple gun that would have been mounted on the ship. Its design revolving around acting more independently of larger fleets is reflected in her skills that launch Be-4 seaplanes and deploy a class of midget submarine that would have been designated "Flea."
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Possesses a mechanical tail in the style of the Northern Parliament's rigging. It's shown to be able to heat up at the tip, which she uses to control the hot spring's temperature in her bathhouse skin.
  • Born Unlucky: With a Luck value of 10, she's among the lowest-Luck shipgirls in the game, only being above Quincy and Research shipsnote .
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Kursk leans towards a summoner skill-wise with Hunter's Stealth - Seaplanes and Hunter's Stealth - Submersibles either debuffing enemies' damage resistance against Kursk or applying flood damage while scaling off of Firepower and Torpedo respectively in addition to their own skill level.
    • However, she is among the few recent CA additions to have light armor and while she has above-average or better statlines offensively and the third-highest Speed value, her average Evasion and near-nonexistent Luck will work against her above-average Health. Owing to her personality, Lone Wolf of the Snowstorm makes her take 25% less damage if alone in the Vanguard along with permanent offensive bonuses.
    • She is also one of the few heavy cruisers that have torpedoes as a secondary weapon, but instead gains a +1 to their Main Gun Mount. This trait is normally seen with Research ships and outside of that, Roon µ was the sole exception.

"I'm Kronshtadt, Northern Parliament cruiser. Firepower isn't my only merit – I have many more than that. I'm sure you'll discover them for yourself as we clash with our enemies, Comrade."

The personification of Project 69-class large cruiser Kronsthadt, named after a port city near Leningrad/St. Petersburg. Notably, she is the very first buildable large cruiser in-game, as the other two (Azuma and Agir) are research ships.

  • Artistic License – Ships: While her actual supposed role as a cruiser killer as well as her armament size is pretty much inline with the large cruiser building doctrine of the time, she was not historically considered to be a CB; instead, she was designed as a battlecruiser with size similar to post-modernization Nagato (which makes Kronsthadt very similar to Agir, who is also intended to be such- this is reflected in their stats).
  • The Corruption: The climax of Abyssal Refrain sees Kronshtadt suffering from it, with her battle against Bon Homme Richard beginning her Metamorphasis thanks to her growing desperation to kill Richard eclipsing her other thoughts. Were it not for the built-in safety override within her Wisdom Cube activating to give her the opportunity to reject it and remember her mission, she would've fallen completely.
  • Drunk with Power: Her third dive into the synchronization chamber resulted in her being corrupted by her own intense desire to destroy Bon Homme Richard. Having lost her sense of reason, she turned her guns on her comrades and nearly underwent Metamorphasis in her rage.
  • The Illegible: One of her secretary lines has her realize the Commander can't read the note she left for him, so she reads it out loud instead. Post-Oath she claims this just means it's well encrypted.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Claims that she'll never repeat information she's already given, to prevent sensitive data leakages. Five seconds later, she's repeating something for the Commander.
Secretary (Idle) 3: "I never repeat something I've explained before. The more information is repeated, the greater the risk of leaks... Hmm? You didn't catch that? Okay, as I was saying..."
  • Percussive Maintenance: She tries this approach on her communicator when it's not working in one of her secretary lines, but all she does is make it start smoking.
  • The Spymaster: Serves this role in her faction.
  • With Catlike Tread: As revealed in her secretary lines, Kronshtadt has her own... unique interpretation of stealth operations.
Secretary (Idle) 5: "What's essential during stealth missions is that you leave no trace. What this means is: before you go in, cannons booming, you should first create an even bigger boom to distract from– Huh? That's not how you do it?"

Battleships (BB)

     The Gangut-class

Class-wide Tropes

  • The Alcoholic: To differing degrees.
    • While Gangut is not as bad as Avrora, there's a number of lines involving Vodka and her sprite's idle animation has her downing a bottle in one go, then briefly stumbling around in a drunken stupor.
    • Sevastopol is worse than either with a third of her lines mentioning drinking. Like Gangut, she has a drinking animation but instead of vodka, she sips on a glass of wine...and faints.
  • Chummy Commies: Many of their lines talk about advancing the interests of the socialist revolution and are both still quite the Nice Girl even if one is modeled off of a secret police torturer and the other a haughty vampire.
  • Older Than They Look: Like a number of the game's BBs, they take on the appearance of women between the late teens to young adults, but have seen service in World War One having been commissioned within the first six months of the war. They hardly have a patch on Comrade Avrora, but come from the same rough battleship generation as folks like Queen Elizabeth, Warspite, Conte di Cavour and Giulio Cesare.

"Hahaha! Not bad, comrade! Come, let us fight for the safety of these azure lanes! Fight until your last breath!"

  • Blood Knight: With the improvements in expressiveness as the game has gone on, you can see just how much she's getting into blowing Sirens apart and has to be ordered to dial it back when she nearly hits Saratoga.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Her boundless energy and zest for life are evident both on and off the battlefield.
  • Face of a Thug: Her default facial expression may make her look like a stereotypical yandere at first glance, but aside from perhaps being just a bit too enthusiastic about fighting Sirens, she's actually one of the more wholesome and well-adjusted shipgirls in terms of personality. Her casualwear skin has her expressions being softer in comparison.
  • Foil: To Roon, personality wise. While Roon is Cute and Psycho, hiding an Ax-Crazy personality under an innocent facade and adorably pretty face, Gangut merely looks crazy but is actually a Nice Girl, if rather overt in spirit.
  • Gathering Steam: Inverted Trope - Gangut's skill gives her a large boost to reload speed for the first four rounds of a battle, so if it drags on longer than that, her DPS drops off sharply.
  • Nice Girl: Despite looking crazy she's generally nice, often with encouragements, and even if upset she just gives a simple warning about mistaking recklessness for courage. And in her Warden skin, she remarks that if she went for something even more imposing, she'd scare the kids.
  • Spirited Competitor: With heavy emphasis on the former. In living to the "revolutionary" spirit, she constantly strives for improvement and tough Foes, feeling it's all steps for realizing the revolution as well as encouraging the commander (you) to do similar.
  • Support Party Member: Much like Mikasa, Gangut has very low base stats (including dethroning Mikasa for the lowest firepower of all battleships and battlecruisers) and makes her role primarily in buffing her own faction.
  • Work Hard, Play Hard: Fights Sirens with revolutionary zeal while on the clock, and celebrates her victories with equal fervor (and plenty of alcohol) afterwards.

"Ahahahaha! So you're the Comrade Commander. I'm the Northern Parliament battleship, Sevastopol. Revolution doesn't happen on tea parties alone, comrade. Think of me as any ordinary young lady, and you'll regret it!"

  • Alcohol Hic: Invoked as her affinity increases.
  • Foil: Implies herself to be one to Gangut. Gangut only brings up vodka in her lines, while Sevastopol has a preference for wine and may even have beer on occasion. Sevastopol also has a more reserved personality in that she isn't as much of a Blood Knight as Gangut, though she does share the same revolutionary spirit.
  • Historical In-Joke: Has a post-Oath line which references how she was repurposed as a training ship in 1954.
  • Pointy Ears
  • Support Party Member: Her skillset follows this.
    • Revolutionary Standard-Bearer is a coin-toss support skill that buffs the damage of the fleet's battleships by 8% for ten seconds in addition to firing a barrage.
    • Fortitude of Ice is a defensive skill which heals a random ship for 8% of Sevastopol's maximum HP when her main gun is fired.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Wine, to the extent that she tried to sneak some in on the Wolf Unit's operation during the Frostfall event.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: If her pledge line is any indication, she becomes drunk to the point that she oaths herself to the Commander by taking the ring and putting it on herself.

"I am battleship Arkhangelsk. Hehe, being plainspoken with me is exactly what I like. I see quite a bit of potential within you."

The personification of the Revenge-class battleship HMS Royal Sovereign, appearing here as Arkhangelsk, which is what she was called after the British loaned her to the Soviets.

  • BFS: She carries a huge sword, possibly referring to depictions of the Archangel Michael where he's shown with a sword.
  • Brits Love Tea: She is of British origin, and has their stereotypical association with loving tea. She has a Juustagram post saying something to the effect of "Vodka is only one solution to cold weather. Tea is just as valid". And during the story of "Abyssal Refrain", she converses with Kronsthadt about tea, at one point being horrified as Kronshtadt suggests adding lemon to tea.
  • Historical In-Joke: Her low HP line refers to the condition she was in when returned to the British. Among other things, it turns out her main battery turrets had not been rotated at all and were jammed on the centerline.
    My maintenance is lacking? Impossible...!
  • Spy Catsuit: Her "Grandiose Getaway" skin has her in a skintight, partially-unzipped, all-covering bodysuit. She also wears cat ears, which also makes this skin a Shout-Out to Catwoman.

"I am called 'Sovetskaya Rossiya,' and as the mightiest of all the Northern Parliament's battleships, I am her ultimate weapon. I will press onward to eliminate all obstacles that stand between you and the Revolution."

  • An Ice Person: Her special barrage launches several large chunks of ice that can slow enemy ships hit. Her design also incorporates ice crystals in her scepter in the shape of a snowflake, as well as her faction's frost-covered rigging.
  • Artistic License – History: Like a lot of proposed final-generation battleships, the Rossiya was not actually completed in real life; she only had about 2,000 tons of steel laid before she was canceled. The kansen in-game is based on an extrapolation of what her performance would've been like had she been completed. Her debut thus surprised some, who thought she would be more appropriate as a research battleship. And her Japanese Twitter remarks mentions "Azur Lane (the faction) was surprised when she was revealed" In fact, she says a special line if sortied with any prototype ships.
  • The Leader: Of the Russian forces during Northern Overture.
  • Mighty Glacier: Befitting her proposed designs, she has a statline comparable to the likes of Bismarck and Tirpitz backed up by a powerful barrage, but the rock-bottom speed and evasion expected of a battleship.
  • Support Party Member: Inverted Trope - Sovetskaya Rossiya receives a buff for each Dragon Empery or Northern Parliament ship in the fleet for the first two battles of a sortie.

ID: No. 440

"Comrade, are you sure you're ready to have me under your command? Very well! Let us join hands and lay waste to our enemies — using my methods, of course!"

  • Artistic License – History: Just like Rossiya (and, indeed, the rest of her class), she was never completed in real life despite her not being a Research ship.
  • Berserk Button: Downplayed when the Commander touches her breasts pre oath, believing he's taking a depraved way to prove his courage. Subverted in her "Relaxation Stratagem" skin in that while the Commander touching her breasts has her claim he had a lapse of judgement, she has heart eyes and laughs playfully, indicating she's into that sort of touching.
  • Expy: Her Sociopathic Soldier streak, blue hair, association with ice, white uniform, design motif that takes after The Baroness and The Political Officer alongside her status as a Ms. Fanservice makes her a dead ringer for Esdeath from Akame ga Kill!. Ironically, Sovetskaya Belorussiya serves an alternate Soviet Chummy Commies faction, while Esdeath works for a regime that is Putting on the Reich akin to their Nazi enemies.
  • Full Health Bonus: Has increased Firepower when above 60% health.
  • Genius Book Club: Subverted. In her "Relaxation Stratagem" skin, the Commander apparently attempts to impress her with his literary knowledge, to which she retorts that even destroyers can read complex literature.
  • Going Commando: Her default skin points to her not wearing underwear, while her "Relaxation Stratagem" skin is straight up lingerie, though points to her wearing garters and no panties as well.
  • Heal Thyself: Can regenerate health over time when she drops below 50% of her maximum HP.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite her rather sadistic mindset towards combat, one of her post-oath lines has her claim that violence should be limited to the battlefield and nowhere else.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: One of her touching quotes has her lampshade the Commander is doing it for some sort of amusement, which is a quote better directed at the actual player instead of the in-universe Commander himself. When the Commander returns from battle, her return quote in her "Relaxation Stratagem" skin has her proclaim that his reputation has improved, which is what the player needs to do out of universe to raise Ship Girl affinity.
  • Sociopathic Soldier: Delights not just in winning against her opponents, but going out of her way to torment them, prolong their suffering, and utterly break their spirits before finally finishing them off.
Belorussiya: It's much more entertaining to lure your foes into a trap one at a time than to crush them all at once. Am I right?
  • The Strategist: To the extent she insists on using her methods instead of the Commander's, and even suggests that she would be more than willing to take his position should he grow weary of it.
  • Support Party Member: Reduces the damage your vanguard fleet takes. It only works starting from the second fight of a sortie, making it more effective on a mob clearing fleet than a boss fleet.
  • Underboobs: An interesting example. Her white overcoat only covers the sides of her breasts, and her black undershirt covers the middle. This allows for an exposed "boob wedge" for each breast.

"You don't look so good... Have you been eating properly lately? And how about your sleep? Hmm... Maybe it has something to do with emotional stress, or relationship problems? ...Oh. My name's Volga, Volga of the Northern Parliament. Oh my, did I really forget to introduce myself until now?"
The personification of Project 72 aircraft carrier design (based on a modified Illustrious-class design), named after the Volga River. She is notably the very first carrier introduced into the Northern Parliament.
  • Cool Big Sis: She fancies herself as this, and apart from being more of The Ditz than the average example, she qualifies.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Borscht crammed with leftovers in one Juustagram post.
  • Crutch Character: Similar to Ryuuhou who has a heal based on her own HP (not the target ships' HP) and thus she is invaluable for leveling up lower-level shipgirls in higher-level content. Volga, however, randomly selects two ships in addition to the lowest-HP percentage one to heal, does it every 20s instead of every airstrike launched, has no limit on how many times she can heal (Ryuuhou is limited to three heals), and also spawns a summon that explodes and deals damage every time this skill activates. This makes the two carriers work extremely well as a team, and one of the alternative options to players who don't have Perseus thanks to her being event-locked.
  • The Ditz: Downplayed Trope; Volga is a bit absent-minded and flubs some of her lines, as well as getting distracted fairly often from the AR game she's playing in her skin (where she's a detective). Nevertheless, there's little indication that she's dimwitted.
  • Fiery Redhead: Inverted. She may have reddish hair, but she is one of the calmest and most collected of all the Northern Parliament shipgirls.
  • Impossibly-Low Neckline: It can't even be called a neckline, as two triangles of fabric reaching up from her waist are the only thing covering her breasts, and even then they only the cover front, leaving plenty of Sideboob to be had.
  • Situational Sword: Like Ryuuhou, her heal is based on her own HP. Used on battleships, it's not likely to be significant. Used on destroyers, on the other hand, will likely heal a large chunk of their HP since their HP would likely be much lower than Volga's, which makes her an effective support healer when paired with Ryuuhou.
  • Team Mom: The other major aspect of her personality; she even has a skill named "Motherly Heart".

"I'm blueprint ship Chkalov, Project 71B aircraft carrier. I'll do a good job as long as you pay me, and if I ever ask for something, you can expect something in return. I hope we can have a mutually beneficial relationship"
The personification of the Project 72B aircraft carrier design used in the fifth Research ship collaboration with World of Warships. Chkalov is the second carrier to be added to the Northern Parliament fleet and the first of the faction to be added in Priority Research.

  • Crippling Overspecialization: Like Ark Royal and Ranger, Chkalov has no fighter slots for dedicated anti-air defense. Instead, she has a loadout of two dive bombers and a torpedo bomber.
  • Glass Cannon: Trades an above-average HP pool and one of the lowest Evasion and Reload values among carriers to possess the third-highest Aviation score. Coupled with her all anti-ship loadout and self-buffing skills, Chkalov brings the pain once the bombers fly.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Wears a lab coat which lacks any of the defining wardrobe features of other Northern Parliament shipgirls, such as fur and insulation; its only degree of conformity is its white color.
  • The Lab Rat: A good number of her lines bring up lab work (or dealing with the resulting power outages) and data analytics. Her skillset also mentions experiments by name.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: She may question if the Commander's decision to choosing secretaries is simply their appearance. Then coaxes the Commander to admit it in a playful manner if it's true.
  • More Dakka: Ignoring the skill "Siren Killer" that all PR ships have, Chkalov's skillset is focused on barrages.
    • "Aviation Experiment - Coordinated Bombardment" launches an additional airstrike when deploying aircraft, with a high chance of being enhanced to a carpet-bombing strike.
    • "Contingency Experiment - Suppressive Fire" launches an icicle barrage when an airstrike finishes loading. This compliments the above by debuffing the AA of enemies hit by the barrage.
  • Sexual Euphemism: While examining the Commander can fit the scientist image, it's specifically brought up at higher affection levels and is more flirtatious post-Oath. And then there's the Commander's "combat gear" in the Love line...
  • The Tease: Does not mind being touched and in one line implies the Commander's lack of progress is from being distracted by her.
