A list of units and gods from the Greek Civilization of Age of Mythology.

    open/close all folders

    In general
  • Anachronism Stew: The Greeks are a mishmash of various eras of antiquity, such as having the Trojan War fought with soldiers straight out of the Peloponnesian War, if not Alexander the Great's campaigns.
  • A Commander Is You:
    • Balanced: They're a versatile civilisation with a tendency towards quality human units and an easy-to-manage economy, playing almost like a faction from Age of Empires II. They gather Favor by praying at temples, and the more villagers are praying, the faster Favor they gain.
    • Generalist: Their military is a standard mix of infantry, cavalry and archers who counter each other, slower on the move and more expensive than their Egyptian and Norse counterparts but heavily armoured and quite powerful. In the Heroic Age, they can train Hypaspists, Peltasts and Prodromos (specialist hard counter infantry, cavalry and archers) and a ranged siege unit called the Petrobolos, the only civ in the game to get one in the Heroic Age. They also get one hero unit from each god in their pantheon as they advance through the ages, and while effective against humans and mythic units, they are one of a kind.
  • During the War: Fall of the Trident starts off at the tail-end of the Trojan War, with Arkantos setting off to what he thinks is just fulfilling Atlantis' obligation to the Greek cities.
  • God's Hands Are Tied: Of all the pantheons, the Greek gods are the most inclined to avoid directly intervening unless such action is absolutely needed, lest their involvement risk divine conflict. This becomes even more pronounced in the expansion, after the Atlanteans' assault on Mount Olympus itself weakens them enough for the Titans to start breaking free.
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: In order to generate Favor, Greek villagers have to be tasked to pray at a temple. Zeus in particular is implied to need prayers even more by virtue of his unique 200 Favor cap.
  • Jack of All Stats: Greek human units are generally well-rounded and flexible enough that they could be used even against enemies meant to counter them.
  • Regional Riff: "Greek to Me," when playing as the Greeks.
  • Revisiting the Roots: Myth units and god powers aside, the Greeks are mechanically the most "conventional" of the various civilizations, playing much like a classic Age of Empires II faction.
  • Skill Gate Characters: Being the civilization that plays the most like a conventional Age of Empires faction, and the first playable one in Fall of the Trident, the Greeks are the easiest for players to learn.
  • Theme Park Version: On top of being an amalgamation of various eras of antiquity, the Greeks are heavily inspired by portrayals in classic Sword and Sandal cinema. Their buildings have the iconic (but inaccurate) pure white columns, while many of the Greek myth units are quite obviously based on the Ray Harryhausen films.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: A consistent aspect of the Greeks is that they're just as likely to fight each other as they are to unite against common foes.

Major gods

    Zeus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeusportrait.png

King of the Gods and ruler of Olympus, he's one of the three main Greek Gods. He doesn't appear directly but still helps Arkantos in his struggle against Gargarensis.

God Power: Bolt (instantly kill one enemy units; deal massive damage to Titans)
Bonuses: Start with 15 favor and doubled favor cap (from 100 to 200).
Villagers gather favor faster.
Hoplites move faster.
Infantries deal double damage to buildings.
Technologies: Olympic Parentage (increases heroes' hitpoints)
Unique Units: Myrmidon (slow-moving infantry that deals bonus damage to non-Greek human units)
Heroes: Jason (Archaic), Odysseus (Classical), Heracles (Heroic), Bellerophon (Mythic)
Focus: Infantries and heroes
Minor God availability: Hermes and Athena (Classical Age), Apollo and Dionysus (Heroic Age), Hera and Hephaestus (Mythic Age)

  • Big Good: In the first Campaign, he's the God you play as during most of the Greek scenarios. It is he that aids Arkantos in his journey to stop Gargarensis's evil plans, rather than his patron god, Poseidon, who is secretly siding with Gargarensis.
  • Bolt of Divine Retribution: His divine power allows you to zap a single enemy unit, even heroes and monsters (with the exception of Titans, who can be bolted but will simply lose about a sixth of their HP).
  • A Commander Is You:
    • Turtle: Worshiping Apollo grants the increased LOS of "Oracle" and allows temples to heal friendly units via "Temple of Healing". Worshiping his exclusive Minor God Hera increases their HP. As for ranged units, the Heroic Age God Apollo grants him the Manticore while in the Mythic Age Hera gives him the Medusa as well as the tech "Monstrous Rage" that increases their HP.
    • Unit Specialist (Infantry):
      • Overall, his Infantry gains bonuses against buildings and extra pierce armor (by worshiping Athena and researching "Aegis Shield") in the Classical Age, and extra line-of-sight (by worshiping Apollo and researching "Oracle") or increased HP (by worshiping Dinoysus and researching "Bacchanalia") in the Heroic Age.
      • In particular, Zeus has fast Hoplites who also gain extra pierce (by worshiping Athena and researching "Aegis Shield") and hack armor (by worshiping Athena and researching "Sarissa") in the Classical Age, and extra line-of-sight (by worshiping Apollo and researching "Oracle") or increased HP (by worshiping Dinoysus and researching "Bacchanalia") in the Heroic Age.
    • Unit Specialist (Myth Unit):
      • He starts with 15 Favor units and his Favor cap is set at 200 rather than the usual 100, allowing him to field more Myth units. He also gains more Favor by having more Myth Units on the field.
      • Worshiping Hera or Hephaestus in the Mythic Age grants further bonuses to all Myth units: the former has a tech that increases all Myth Units' HP ("Monstrous Rage"), and the latter has another that instead increases all units' attack ("Weapon of the Titans").
  • God's Hands Are Tied: Athena explains that the reason Zeus is using Arkantos to stop Gargarensis' plans to release the Titans is because if he interfered directly, it would cause a war between all the gods.
  • Grandpa God: Is depicted as an older man with white hair and a beard.
  • Mutually Exclusive Power-Ups:
    • Apollo and Dionysus, from the Heroic Age, have two overall bonuses, either all your units get increased LOS ("Oracle") or increased HP ("Bacchanalia").
    • Hera and Hephaestus, from the Mythic Age, have attack-increasing bonuses: the former has "Monstrous Rage" for all Myth units regardless of uniqueness while the latter has "Weapon of the Titans" for all unique Myth units.
  • Meteor-Summoning Attack: In Fall of the Trident he grants Arkantos the power of dropping meteors twice, one during the final stages of the Trojan War and the second time in the finale as a reward for each Poseidon temple destroyed.
  • Necessary Drawback: Because of his bonuses to Favor, Zeus-worshiping Greeks cannot worship Aphrodite, who also has bonuses to said resource.
  • Really Gets Around: This is Zeus, he had many affairs with gods and mortals alike, resulting in many demigod children. This is also reflected in the Olympic Parentage unique technology which gives all heroes extra hitpoints.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: At least during the campaign. Zeus has been discreetly helping Arkantos in stopping Gargarensis and Poseidon from unleashing the Titans through his quest, which becomes much more overt once he arrives in Tartarus.
  • Shock and Awe: His God Power is a Bolt of Divine Retribution.
  • The Voice: In the last scenario of the Fall of the Trident campaign, a voice tells Arkantos to take the blessing to stop Gargarensis from freeing Kronos. Considering that he is heard after building the Wonder, it's him giving Arkantos godly powers in order to defeat Poseidon's living statue.

Myrmidon

Cost: 70 food, 50 gold
Availability: Mythic Age
Trained at: Fortress/Military Academy (from The Titans only)
God-specific bonuses:
Zeus: Attack vs. buildings +100%
Upgrades: Medium Infantrynote , Heavy Infantrynote , Champion Infantrynote , Copper Weapons/Bronze Weapons/Iron Weaponsnote , Copper Mail/Bronze Mail/Iron Mailnote , Copper Shields/Bronze Shields/Iron Shieldsnote , Levy Infantry/Conscript Infantrynote , Beast Slayer note .
God-specific upgrades:
Athena: Aegis Shield note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Apollo: Oracle note
Hephaestus: Weapon of the Titans note

  • Elite Mooks: Befitting the warriors who followed Achilles to Troy, Myrmidons are slow but powerful infantry units, being superior to Hoplites in almost every way
  • Like Cannot Cut Like: While Myrmidons have attack bonuses against other civilizations' human units, they don't have such against other enemy Greek ones.

    Poseidon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/poseidonportrait.png

God of the Sea and defender of Atlantis, he's the god worshiped by both the Atlanteans and Gargarensis, and the eventual focus of the Fall of the Trident campaign.

God Power: Lure (attracts hunting animals to the targeted stone)
Bonuses: Cavalry units are cheaper.
Stables are cheaper.
Resource exchange at markets is more efficient.
Destroyed own buildings produce Militia.
Spawns a Hippocampus at a Dock if a Temple was built first.
Technologies: Lord of Horses (increases cavalry's extra line-of-sight)
Unique Units: Hippocampus (naval myth unit that scouts the sea), Hetairoi (cavalry that has bonus damage to buildings), Militia (weak infantry that spawns from destroyed buildings)
Heroes: Theseus (Archaic), Hippolyta (Classical), Atlanta (Heroic), Polyphemus, the Argo (Mythic)
Focus: Cavalry
Minor God availability: Hermes and Ares (Classical Age), Aphrodite and Dionysus (Heroic Age), Artemis and Hephaestus (Mythic Age)

  • Adaptational Villainy: While the Greek Gods have always been Jerkass Gods, Poseidon tends to be less abjectly evil than this interpretation and certainly wouldn't ally himself with Kronos.
  • The Beastmaster: His divine power summons a giant runic stone that attracts all the animals nearby. He also improves cavalry, as he is also the God of Horses.
  • A Commander Is You:
    • Economic: The God Power "Lure" attracts animals to a stone in an area, and the resource exchange in Markets is more efficient. Worshiping Aphrodite in the Heroic Age grants bonuses to Villagers such as Favor gathering ("Golden Apples") and resource carrying and movement speed ("Divine Blood") and her God Power "Curse" gives your civ a free food source; and worshiping Hephaestus in the Mythic Age grants the God Power "Plenty" (generates a Vault that generates resources every 5 seconds) and the "Forge of Olympus" tech, which decreases the cost of all Armory techs.
    • Spammer: Has the cheapest Cavalry of all Greek compositions, helped by cheap Stables. In addition, worshiping Hermes in the Classical Age removes the food cost of their Scout unit, the Pegasus. Coupled with another of Hermes's techs, "Spirited Charge" (a tech that boosts attack and movement speed), this allows him to spam cavalry units and overwhelm his opponents' infantry and siege.
    • Unit Specialist (Cavalry): Has cheap Stables and cavalry, and a tech that increases their LOS. In addition, worshiping Hermes in the Classical Age gives a further increase in speed and attack via "Spirited Charge", and they also benefit from Dionysus' overall tech bonus "Bacchanalia" (increased LOS) and his God Power "Bronze" (increased armor for all units in an area).
    • Unit Specialist (Myth Siege Units): His unique unit Hetairoi has bonus damage against buildings. Worshiping Ares in the Classical Age gives him the Cyclops/Elder Cyclops as well as an enemy unit-training denial option in the God Power "Pestilence"; worshiping Aphrodite gives him the Nemean Lion/Rex; and worshiping Hephaestus rather than Artemis in the Mythical Age gives him the Colossi line. With the exception of the Aphrodite-exclusive Nemean Lion (as both her and Dionysus are mutually exclusive), they also benefit from Dionysus' "Bacchanalia" (increased LOS) and his God Power "Bronze" (increased armor for all units in an area).
  • Dishing Out Dirt: It is implied that Poseidon causes a massive earthquake to destroy Atlantis and kill Arkantos as soon as he destroyed his avatar. Poseidon was known as the Earthshaker.
  • Evil All Along: At first, Arkantos thought that Poseidon was a benevolent patron god to Atlantis. However, when Athena reveals to Arkantos that Poseidon was secretly allying with Kronos and Gargarensis, whose plans involve the destruction of Atlantis, he can hardly believe it.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He's the one that sent Gargarensis in his quest.
  • Hotter and Sexier: Downplayed. While his portrayal in Retold looks similar to his original art, he's noticeably more buff, while his seaweed-esque clothing leaves little to the imagination.
  • Karma Houdini: So far as is shown in the games, never suffers any repercussions for selling Atlantis and his fellow Olympians out in the hopes of getting a reward from the Titans. Unless the loss of Atlantis weakened him somehow.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: A full artwork of Poseidon shows him having a fish tail, a common misconception of Poseidon as it is a trait belonging to his son, Triton.
  • Patron God: Poseidon is the patron deity of Atlantis, who is revered and beloved to the point of having a giant statue built in his honor. This doesn't stop him from throwing the Atlanteans under the bridge by having Gargarensis free the Titans.
  • Prongs of Poseidon: Well, no duh, he IS the Trope Namer as his statue in the Town Center holds a trident and the trident decorates his UI.
  • Wizard Beard: He has quite an impressive one in his portrait.
  • Taking You with Me: When Arkantos defeats his avatar, the Earthquake god power activates as soon as the scenario is complete and the screen turns to black, implying that Poseidon destroys Atlantis as a way to take down Arkantos with it.

  • Our Hippocamps Are Different: Upon building the Dock and the Temple, he will grant you a Hippocampus, an aquatic scouting unit that allow you to survey the seas.

Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Apollo: Oracle note

  • Instant Militia: Worshippers of Poseidon will gain Militia upon losing a building (except for walls and Farms). The number of Militia spawned depends on the building, for example, towers provide 1 Militia while a Wonder provides 10 Militia.

    Hades
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hadesportrait.png

God of the Underworld, he rules over the Fire and Brimstone Hell of Erebus. Despite his status, he never ever appears and is actually pretty helpful.

God Power: Sentinel (summons 5 Sentinels to protect a Town Center)
Bonuses: When a human unit die, it may create a Shade. Progressively grow stronger up an Age.
Buildings have increased hitpoints and attack.
Archers deal more damage.
Technologies: Vault of Erebus (generate a small trickle of gold)
Unique Units: Gastraphetes (expensive but powerful archers), Shades (weak Myth units that grows stronger with Age)
Heroes: Ajax (Archaic), Chiron (Classical), Achilles (Heroic), Perseus (Mythic)
Focus Archers and buildings
Minor God availability: Athena and Ares (Classical Age), Apollo and Aphrodite (Heroic Age), Artemis and Hephaestus (Mythic Age)

  • A Commander Is You:
    • Elitist: Focus on expensive but powerful units. In order to sustain said focus, players are granted a tech that trickles gold at a rate ("Vault of Erebus"), as well as access to the Villager-empowering Aphrodite and Hephaestus, who has a God Power that further trickles resources at a rate.
    • Economist: Has a tech ("Vault of Erebus") that generates a gold trickle. Worshiping Aphrodite in the Heroic Age gives several boosts to his villagers (a free food source in the God Power "Curse", and "Golden Apples" and "Divine Blood" empowering their gathering rate, movement speed and construction time). Worshiping Hephaestus in the Mythic Age grants the God Power "Plenty" (generates a Vault that generates resources every 5 minutes) and decreases the cost of the Armory building's techs ("Forge of Olympus").
    • Turtle: His buildings have increased HP and attack. His God Power "Sentinel" can raise up to 5 Sentinels in order to protect a Town Center. He also has damage bonuses for his Archery, and his UU is another ranged unit. Finally, depending on which Minor God you choose to worship in the Heroic Age, either your Villagers get a construction bonus (via Aphrodite's tech "Divine Power") or your civ gets a LOS boost ("Oracle"), a healing ability for Temples ("Temple of Healing") and another ranged unit in the Manticore (Apollo).
    • Ranger/Unit Specialist (Archer): His archers deal a lot of damage. His Gastraphetes UU is an archer. Worshiping Ares further increases the attack of the Toxotes ("Enyo's Bow"), worshiping Apollo gives them extra LOS ("Oracle") and the ability to appear anywhere in the map thanks to Underworld Passage, and worshiping Artemis further increases their attack ("Shafts of Plague").
  • Cool Uncle: He’s backing his niece - Athena to help give Arkantos perspective in his dreams.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He rules over a dark place full of monsters and lava, but he's not really a bad guy, going so far as to help Arkantos while he's in the Underworld.
  • Everybody Hates Hades: Subverted, he's the God of choice for the Trojans, but he's not the main villain of the campaign.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Ironically, he's the God worshiped by Troy despite the fact that two of his heroes fought against Troy.
  • Good Samaritan: Despite owing Arkantos and his friends absolutely nothing, he still aids them twice for no stated reason. Presumably he either doesn’t want Kronos free anymore than the other gods, or the developers remembered he’s supposed to be one of the more reasonable gods.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Hades’s Vault of Erebus trickle may not sound like much, but between that and his building discounts you can effectively pull ahead early through nothing more than economic savvy; If you have the skills to balance a check book, Hades will reward your guile.
  • Infinite Supplies: Age of Mythology remembers that Hades isn't just the God of the Underworld, but also all of the riches beneath the ground. Therefore, researching his Vaults of Erebus technology will give you a small trickle of that wealth.
  • Living Statue: His god power summons five of these guardians to protect a Town Center.
  • Master Archer: Hades worshipers have very strong archers with his own bonus to improved archer's attack and the Gastraphetes. Worshiping Ares, Apollo, and Artemis will vastly improve their attack capabilities
  • Mutually Exclusive Power-Ups:
    • Both Ares and Athena, from the Classical Age, grant a bonus to Hoplites in the Heroic Age in the form of either an increased attack ("Phobos' Spear") or increased hack armor ("Sarissa") and pierce armor ("Aegis Shield", which also applies to the rest of the infantry) respectively.
    • Both Apollo and Aphrodite from the Heroic Age grant different bonuses to buildings: the former has increased LOS ("Oracle) and a healing ability for temples ("Temple of Healing") while the latter empowers the Villagers' construction time ("Divine Blood").
  • Nothing Personal: He seems to have taken Arkantos’s help in defeating his worshippers at Troy with no malice whatsoever, considering he helps Arkantos escape the Underworld and gain perspective in his dreams later.
  • Out of Focus: In the campaign, compared to Zeus and Poseidon which are respectively the Big Good and the Greater-Scope Villain of the story, Hades barely interacts with the protagonists.
  • Prophet Eyes: Barely visible under the helmet, but they're there.
  • Signature Headgear: His Helmet of Invisibility.

  • Irony: Although Hermes is mentioned as a guide to dead souls, he cannot be worshiped by Hades, the king of the underworld.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: One of the utilities of Ceasefire is getting your entire army in the enemy's base and the enemy cannot do anything about it until the Ceasefire ends.
  • Super-Speed: It wouldn't be Hermes if he wasn't fast. His upgrades improve the speed of cavalry and has access to fast Centaurs, allowing them to perform hit-and-run and chasing down fleeing enemies.

  • Mystical Plague: His Pestilence god power affects buildings that can produce units.
  • War God: As can be expected from a guy named Ares.

Cyclops

Cost: 250 food, 18 favor
Trained at: Temple
God-specific upgrades:
Ares: Will of Kronosnote
Apollo: Oracle note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note

  • Carry a Big Stick: The Cyclops is armed with a big wooden club.
  • Classical Cyclops: They are tough and have the ability to instantly kill a human soldier. Interestingly, it is depicted with hooved and furred legs and a single horn.
  • One-Hit Kill: Their special ability can instantly kill a human soldier. It usually takes a few seconds for them to throw the soldier, but it is enough to take out a strong unit.
  • Sadly Mythcharacterized: Both its and Will of Kronos history states that the "elder" cyclopes were the children of Kronos, when it was usually Kronos's father, Oranos, that fathered the elder cyclopes.
  • Stone Wall: In the Classical and Heroic ages, despite their slow speed, they can take down Watch towers and Barracks with ease. In turn, they're quite expensive.

Heroic Age

    Apollo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apollo_7.jpg

  • The Medic: One of his upgrades lets temples heals units that stand close to them.

    Aphrodite
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aphrodite_5.jpg

Major God Availability: Poseidon and Hades

  • Apple of Discord: The golden apple she holds, which was given to her by Paris, prince of Troy. She also has them as her upgrade, improving favor gathering.
  • Forced Transformation: Her god power transforms a group of human units into pigs, which cuts down the enemy's offense, as well as providing food for whoever takes ownership of the pigs.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: The pigs generated from using the God Power "Curse" can also be eaten.
  • Love Goddess: Aphrodite is this for the Greek pantheon, though she leans more toward sex and passion rather than love.
  • Ms. Fanservice: The only deity depicted nude in-game.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Most of her upgrades benefit villagers.
  • Sadly Mythcharacterized: The Golden Apple's history states that Enyo, daughter of Ares and goddess of war, instigated discord between Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite with the golden apple, which led to them holding a contest with Paris as judge that would lead to the Trojan War. Most accounts attribute the instigator to Eris, the goddess of discord and chaos. In addition, Enyo doesn't mean "strife," while Eris does. The discrepancy is likely because Homer equates the two goddess as one and the same.
  • Toplessness from the Back: In her portrait.

Nemean Lion

Cost: 250 gold, 22 favor
Trained at: Temple
God-specific upgrades:
Aphrodite: Roar of Orthus note

  • Heavily Armored Mook: Part of the upgrade “Roar of Orthus” makes the Nemean Lion less vulnerable to hack attacks, and far less vulnerable to piercing attacks.

  • Panthera Awesome: A giant golden lion with a powerful roar capable of damaging multiple enemies.

    Dionysus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dionysus_4.jpg
"You have advanced to the Heroic Age through the Drunken Revelry of Dionysus."
God of wine and revelry, who left his worshipers in a mindless euphoria which led them to follow him in the land, constantly dancing and singing.

God Power: Bronze (increases armor of human units in the area)
Unique Technologies: Bacchanalia (all units gain increased hitpoints), Anastrophe (Pentekonters gain increased attack, speed, and train faster), Thracian Horses (Cavalry gain increased hitpoints)
Myth Unit: Hydra (A tough melee unit. Gain heads for every kill, which increases their attack), Scylla (the naval equivalent of the Hydra)
Focus: Cavalry
Major God Availability: Zeus and Poseidon

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Inverted. Contrary to traditional depictions of Dionysus as a young and pretty youth, here he appears as a grey-haired middle-aged man (more in line with his Roman equivalent Bacchus).
  • Chrome Champion: All mortal units blessed with Bronze. They also make metallic noises when hit.
  • Made of Iron: Bronze does this to the mortal soldiers in the area of effect, greatly improving their armor.

Trained at: Temple
God-specific upgrades:
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Hera: Monstrous Rage note

Scylla

Cost: 200 gold, 15 favor

Mythic Age

    Hera
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hera_0.jpg
"You have advanced to the Mythic Age through the Schemes of Hera."

Wife of Zeus and goddess of marriages. She is known for being vengeful, especially against Zeus' lovers and children.

God Power: Lightning Storm (Summons a storm that devastate enemy armies)
Unique Technologies: Monstrous Rage (Myth units gain increased attack), Face of the Gorgon (Medusas gain increased hitpoints), Athenian Wall (Buildings gain increased hitpoints)
Myth Unit: Medusa/Medusa Matriarch (Ranged mythic unit that can turn unit to stone), Carcinos (Tough naval unit that deals hack and crush damage)
Focus: Building and myth units
Major God Availability: Zeus

Medusa

Cost: 250 gold, 28 favor
Trained at: Temple
God-specific upgrades:
Apollo: Sun Ray note , Oracle note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Hera: Face of the Gorgonnote , Monstrous Rage note

  • A Kind of One: The plural of Medusa is Medusae, a pluralization of Medusa... even though Medusa herself was actually one of three sisters called "Gorgons", and worse, uses Latin grammar rules to pluralize a Greek name. The developers already had a perfectly good generic species name at their disposal, but they chose to enforce A Kind of One instead! Could be justified when you remember Medusa is the only mortal Gorgon as the two other Gorgons were said to be immortal.
  • Balance Buff: Originally had a 40 favor cost in the original AoM, then The Titans reduced this cost to 29, and Extended Edition further reduced said cost to 28.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Left to her own devices, she falls easily to not only Hero Units but to weaker units as well. A player who's quite adept in micromanagement can turn her into a destruction machine who focuses her Gaze into the most expensive and powerful enemy units into stone while the remaining forces backing them up take care of the rest.
  • Medusa: They are dangerous as they can turn anything to stone, even myth units.
  • Snake People: Based on the version from Clash Of The Titans, so this is a given.
  • Taken for Granite: Medusa's special ability, Gaze, which, with the exception of Titans and airborne units, turn anything else it sees into stone.

Carcinos

Cost: 200 wood, 20 favor
Trained at: Temple
God-specific upgrades:
Apollo: Oracle note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Hera: Monstrous Rage note

  • Giant Enemy Crab: Carcinos was a mythical crab that fought alongside the Hydra against Heracles. When it died, Hera turned it into the constellation Cancer.
  • Taking You with Me: Explodes after its HP are depleted, causing 300 hack damage in all units within 7.5 range.

    Artemis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/artemis_0.jpg
"You have advanced to the Mythic Age through the Determination of Artemis."

Goddess of the wilds, who is attended by nymphs and shunned the attention of men. Known for her hunting skill.

God Power: Earthquake (A devastating landshake that destroys bases)
Unique Technologies: Flame of Typhon (Chimera has increased hitpoints, attack, and special ability), Shafts of Plague (Archers gain increased attack), Trierarch (Triremes gain crush armor)
Myth Unit: Chimera/Chimera Tyrant (a three-headed monster that breath fire that deals damage)
Focus: Archers
Major God Availability: Poseidon and Hades

  • Dishing Out Dirt: Her God Power causes a massive earthquake to shake the map and destroy buildings in a rapid pace. However, it is not very effective against other units so it is useful for destroying your enemies' defense and breaking down their military production.
  • Poisoned Weapons: Though it doesn't actually let the arrows poison enemies, the Shafts of Plague upgrade increases the damage of archers.

Chimera

Cost: 300 gold, 30 favor
Trained at: Temple
God-specific upgrades:
Apollo: Oracle note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Artemis: Flames of Typhon note

  • Classical Chimera: A true to form depiction of the monster. A lion with a goat's head and snake's tail and can breath fire.
  • Breath Weapon: Their special attack is to breathe fire from the snake-heads mouth.
  • Glass Cannon: They have strong attacks but poor defenses.

    Hephaestus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hephaestus.jpg
"You have advanced to the Mythic Age through the Toil of Hephaestus."

God of the smiths. Born lame, he is known for crafting many artifacts, such as Zeus' mighty thunderbolts and Athena's aegis.

God Power: Plenty (Create a Vault that generates resources for every 5 seconds)
Unique Technologies: Forge of Olympus (Armory technology cost less resources), Hand of Talos (Colossi gain increased hitpoints), Shoulder of Talos (Colossi gain increased hitpoints and hack armor), Weapon of the Titans (Unique units gain increased attack)
Myth Unit: Colossus/Silver Colossus/Gold Colossus (Giant but slow myth units known for its high hitpoints and siege capabilities. They can eat trees and gold mines to heal.)
Focus: Human units
Major God Availability: Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Hephaestus is traditionally described as deformed and ugly, but here he's portrayed as a ripped shirtless guy with no visible deformities whatsoever.
  • The Blacksmith: The god of them. One of his upgrades makes all the Armory upgrades super-cheap.
  • Infinite Supplies: One of his greatest boons is the Plenty god power, which creates a vault that generate all resources. It means that while non-Hephaestus worshipping Greeks or non-Chinese opponents may run the risk of no renewable resources in a very late game, the Plenty can make sure they are still plentiful of resources and units.

Colossus

Cost: 300 gold, 25 favor
Trained at: Temple
God-specific upgrades:
Apollo: Oracle note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Hephaestus: Hand of Talosnote , Shoulder of Talosnote

  • Living Statue: They can talk and even heal themselves by eating trees or gold ore.
  • Mighty Glacier: Fully upgraded, they are *the* toughest unit in the game barring Titans, having about ten times the HP of infantry units. They are, however, just as vulnerable as any unit to any attacks that can One-Hit Kill.

  • Cap: Up to 80 Laborers can be trained for every civ, no matter what the population cap is at the moment. If the player needs to train one more, they must wait until a laborer is killed.
  • Gender Is No Object: Can come in either Male or Female variants.
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: In order for Greek players to acquire favors, they must send villagers to the Temple to literally pray for more favor. The more villagers pray, the higher the gathering of favor become.
  • Worker Unit: The basic worker of the Greek civilization, they construct buildings and gather all basic resources.

    Kataskopos
Cost: 0

God-specific upgrades:
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note

  • Starting Units: All Greek players start the game with one Kataskopos, but no more can be trained.

    Greek Heroes
Cost: 100 food, 50 gold (Archaic), 200 wood, 2 favor (Classical), 350 food, 4 favor (Heroic), 400 gold, 6 favor (Mythic, non-Argo), 250 wood, 8 favor (Mythic, the Argo)
God-specific Heroes:
Zeus: Jason (Archaic), Odysseus (Classical), Heracles (Heroic), Bellerophon (Mythic)
Poseidon: Theseus (Archaic), Hippolyta (Classical), Atalanta (Heroic), Polyphemus, the Argo (Mythic)
Hades: Ajax (Archaic), Chiron (Classical), Achilles (Heroic), Perseus (Mythic)
Trained at: Town Center
Upgrades: HP and attack +10% upon advancing an age, Copper Weapons/Bronze Weapons/Iron Weaponsnote , Copper Mail/Bronze Mail/Iron Mailnote , Copper Shields/Bronze Shields/Iron Shieldsnote
God-specific upgrades:
Zeus: Olympic Parentage note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Apollo: Oracle note

  • Adaptational Modesty: Atalanta is shown dressed much more conservatively than in classical depictions (where she was usually dressed in skimpy hunting dresses and bikinis).
  • Adaptational Wimp:
    • Heracles, one of the strongest heroes in the Greek mythology, has mediocre stats for a Heroic Age hero unit in this game.
    • Achilles, the hero of the Trojan War known for his invulnerability, is no less killable than any other unit.
  • Blown Across the Room: Polyphemus's special ability involves him swinging his club to fling an enemy unit away from the battle.
  • Classical Cyclops: Polyphemus is one of Poseidon's sons and a Cyclops. He is an enemy of Odysseus.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: One of Zeus's most famous sons, Perseus, can only be trained by Hades's worshippers.
  • Hero Unit: Unlike other cultures, the Greek heroes are individuals from their mythology and there can only be one person at a time, meaning that the Greeks have four heroes while other cultures can have more than that. However, as compensation, Greek heroes are much stronger than other cultures'. While the heroes in the Archaic, Classical, and Heroic Age function almost the same, the Mythic Age heroes have special abilities that let them diverge from each other.
  • In a Single Bound: Bellerophon rides Pegasus to fly toward a target to deal burst damage, similar to the Anubite's jumping ability.
  • Irony:
    • Zeus's Mythic hero, Bellerophon, tried to arrogantly fly to the heavens, causing Zeus to send a gadfly to agitate Pegasus and fling him back to the ground.
    • Poseidon can train the Argo, but its famed captain, Jason, can only be trained by Zeus's worshippers.
    • Since Hades worshippers cannot worship Hermes, Chiron is unable to fight alongside other centaurs. As the result, he cannot benefit from Sylvan Lore, which uses Chiron in its icon.
  • Master Archer: The Classical Age heroes are archers, like Odysseus, Hippolyta, and Chiron. Statwise, Odysseus is durable but slow, Hippolyta is strong but frail, and Chiron is fast but weak.
  • Super-Speed: Atalanta and Bellerophon are tied as the fastest Greek hero in the game. The former because she is a famed runner and huntress, and the latter rides on a mythical mount.
  • Taken for Granite: Perseus's special ability uses Medusa's head to turn an enemy unit to stone, instantly killing them.

God-specific upgrades:
Zeus: Olympic Parentage note
Dionysus: Bacchanalia note
Apollo: Oracle note

  • Hero Unit: Like the other Greek heroes, he only has 1 build limit but can pick up relics.
  • Historical Domain Character: Unlike all other Greek heroes who are based of characters from myth who may or may not have been based off real figures, Hippocrates was a real figure who founded a lot of principles of modern medicine.
  • Non-Action Guy: Hippocrates is completely incapable of attacking, when even Priests and Monks can fight back. This makes sense given the Hippocratic Oath is "First, do no harm."

Hekate: Mythic Rejuvenation note

  • Army Scout: The Pegasus replaces the Kataskopos as the Greek's scouting unit in any later point of the game. Since it can fly, it can easily track enemy armies from an unreachable spot and reach bases cut off by terrain.
  • Pegasus: The Pegasus is a Greek myth unit that can be produced as sooner as Archaic Age. The Pegasus lacks any offensive capability, but it can fly, making it a good scout when your Kataskopos dies.
  • Randomly Generated Loot: It is possible for non-Greek players to obtain a Pegasus through the Bridle of Pegasus relic. As the result, it is the only Greek myth unit that benefits from non-Greek bonuses and technologies.
