Awesome / Digimon: The Movie

Go To

  • Despite his macabre and abominable appearance and not even saying a single word in the Japanese version (only communicating through text), Diablomon is some of the most dangerous and cunning lifeforms that threatened an apocalypse, fighting the DigiDestined with unprecedented tactics rarely seen in the franchise's history. The first thing that lets you know this thing is bad news is he warp evolves from a Rookie to an Ultimate right before Agumon and Tentomon could and attack their Digimon on the middle of Digivolving before making his run to mess up more electronic devices. The next time we see him, he evolves into the Mega-level Diablomon and disables Patamon before he can even evolve, and overwhelms WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon by taking advantage of Izzy's toilet break and Tai's impulsiveness, then launching multiple peacekeeper missiles to nuke humanity after ten minutes while attacking Tai and Matt's Mega-levels to the point they can no longer fight with thousands of his clones. Even when facing Omnimon, Diablomon still stalls him all the way to the last second before a DDoS attack slows him long enough for Omnimon to land a finishing blow. It's an impressive level of cunning and virulence unseen in most other apocalyptic threats, and the only other one that plays to that level is Regulusmon, who is introduced more than 2 decades later!
  • WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon following Diablomon to stop his attempt to nuke all of humanity. This is after they were beaten near death just moments ago, Tai and Izzy know it be impossible, but WarGreymon only ask of Tai is to have faith, despite heavily damaged, and prepares to go after Diablomon, MetalGarurumon is not far behind either.
  • How about Omegamon/Omnimon's first appearance? Beaten and broken, WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon get power from kids all around the world, and they digivolve together to form Omnimon, a huge badass White Knight with Grey Sword and Garuru Cannon. Omnimon then proceeds to casually destroy thousands of copies of the Mega-level Digimon Diaboromon (actually, probably over a million, as Izzy notes), just one of which was giving his previous forms massive difficulty. It was badass and perhaps the best introduction for any Digimon ever.
  • Say it with me now: "TRANSCENDENT SWORD!"
  • "SUPREME... CANNON!"
  • And lest we forget, "CONNECTION... TERMINATED..."
  • Omegamon is treated with a large amount of reverence. The fusion is accompanied by a Cherubic Choir, making the moment seem like a miracle of divine intervention. During the entire thing, Omegamon also says absolutely nothing, which only adds to his mystique.
    • Omnimon's grand entrance is awesome in its own right; his fusion is backed up by Graeme Revell's powerful score, and the shift to "Let's Kick It Up" after Omnimon swings the Transcendent Sword underlines that he's just turned the fight around definitively.
    • Notably, all the Diaboromon clones had been watching while sticking to the walls, and remained still while firing their Web Wrecker attacks en masse. After a great number of them are taken out with their own lasers reflected back? All of them start scurrying about and notably try to clear out of the Supreme Cannon’s blast zone before getting eclipsed in the explosions.
  • Magnamon and Rapidmon's appearance near the end of the film.
  • During the fight against Diaboromon, WarGreymon's Dramon Slayers are torn off. So what does he do? CLOCK Diaboromon right in the jaw! No fancy attacks necessary, just a straight up punch to the face. WarGreymon is just that badass.
  • Greymon and Kabuterimon put up a great fight against Infermon, who is revealed to be a higher level than them.
  • Infermon subverting Transformation Is a Free Action and taking down MetalGreymon and MegaKabuterimon.
  • After repeating the mid transformation attack on Patamon, T.K. cries out that he's coming to help him, leading to one of the best lines in the movie.
    • "T.K....you can't. (To MetalGarurumon) BUT YOU CAN!!" (MetalGarurumon tears into Diaboromon)
    • "WIPE HIM OUT!!" (WarGreymon then proceeds to punch Diaboromon in the face!)
    • Also the tradition of Digimon shouting the names of their moves, spurred on by these being Mega level attacks, leading to an exchange of "ICE WOLF BITE!" vs "WEB WRECKER..."
  • "YOU'VE! GOT! MAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!" Best! Moment! Ever!
    • The movie is pretty much a crowning moment for Izzy, who does everything short of the actual battling. It's telling that in the director's subsequent film Summer Wars, which is an alternate take on the same basic story of Our War Game, several of the protagonists take heavy inspiration from Izzy.
    • It's a bit of a weird compliment, but it says a lot about Izzy and Tai's importance and efforts that (in the Dub), Diaboromon goes out of its way to target two people with an intercontinental nuclear weapon.
  • The AWESOME of any of the Digimon films, especially Bokura no War Game ("Our War Game", a reference to, well, WarGames). In addition to having a fairly obscene budget, it was animated by a person who studied under Hayao Miyazaki at one time, so that's why the animation should look familliar. At one point, Diablomon decides to launch a highly advanced nuclear missile, and, when Koushirou finds out, he realizes it could blow up anywhere in the world, in nine minutes. A DIGIMON movie has a movie plot about stopping NUCLEAR WAR. All the while, the whole world is reaching out to the heroes via e-mail. It is awesome beyond words.
  • The sheer AWESOMENESS when Greymon wrestles against the Parrotmon.
  • Another thing that makes Bokura no War Game so awesome is when you realize that it was major foreshadowing. How so? Well, remember that the movie is in fact canon (having been mentioned in series by two of the characters), and that during it, kids from all over the world were watching, including the protagonists of 02. Anyone remember what the requirements for becoming a DigiDestined in 01 and 02 were? It was by seeing a Digimon. Now if the children watching had in fact amounted to, oh say, 50 million, you suddenly realize where they all came from during the final episode of 02. Chekhov's Gun indeed!
  • Greymon's first appearance in the movie, first Parrotmon NoSells Agumon's attacks and destroys the bridge above him, Tai and Kari and they get covered in rubble, phones and lights around them go haywire, dust clears to reveal a Kaiju sized Greymon. Cue epic fight.
    Tai: Koromon...?
    Greymon: I'm Greymon now.
Tai: You can be whoever you want, big guy.
    • That moment in the dub where, after waiting the whole time to hear it, Greymon finally goes into action and the dub theme plays full-blast.
    "NOVA FLAME!!"
  • Veemon and Terriermon digivolving into Magnamon and Rapidmon respectively. Even Gatomon was impressed.
    • Rapidmon fires two missiles at Cherubimon that, for a few seconds, don't appear to do much damage. A second later and Cherubimon's head gets blown up.
  • Even though they're really just there to empower Veemon and Terriermon into their Golden Armor forms, Angemon and Angewoman Digivolving into Seraphimon and Magnadramon is pretty damn awesome, and all the better for it happening for the first time on the big screen.
    • And like any high-tier Digivolution, they get an awesome Transformation Sequence:
"Angemon,Warp Digivolve to...!" (With a spin of his staff before it disappears, his helmet vanishes as his back faces the camera with a flash of light, briefly turning into MagnaAngemon when he faces forward before flashing again into the armor-clad Digimon with ten golden wings) "Seraphimon!"
"Angewomon, Digivolve to...!" (Helmet flies up with her face obscured by her hair as the camera pans upward after it, the helm flaring in pink light before Angewomon is revealed in an energy form before solidifying into a serpentine dragon of the same color) "Magnadramon!"
