History LetsPlay / Yogscast

The Yogscast are an independent network of Website/YouTube video producers and Website/{{Twitch}} live streamers, mostly based in their offices in Bristol, but also include people across the United Kingdom and around the world. They produce video game [[LetsPlay Let's Plays]] and the occasional review for entertainment. They were members of Creator/{{Polaris}} until 2016, when they founded their own network and parted ways with Polaris due to differences of opinion in how copyright issues should be handled. Begun by Lewis Brindley (Xephos) and Simon Lane (Honeydew) in 2008 as a way of showing Simon's comedic talents to the world, by 2011, the Yogscast grew into multiple channels with different video producers focusing on different sorts of games. The "gaijin rock" band, Music/{{Area 11}}, is also associated with Yog Towers and do their own Let's Plays.

* Music/{{Area 11}}

** Dwarves. See Simon's character in the WebVideo/YogscastMinecraftSeries, Honeydew, and the undead dwarven pirate NPC Spacker. Also spreads to Podcast/TheYoGPoD constantly talking about dwarves, their Website/YouTube profile image, and even their way of censoring inappropriate bits being images of dwarves.

* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: Each Yogscast Website/YouTube page has a different colour scheme for their banners, icons, and prior to Website/YouTube}}'s One Channel, backgrounds. Sips' is brown, after his [[ColorCodedElements dirt factory]] in ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' Tekkit, while Rythian's [[PurpleIsTheNewBlack purple]] evokes his ''Minecraft'' avatar's love of magic and his apparent [[HumanoidAbomination Enderman]] heritage.

** Simon's occasional lapses into his [[LargeHam "Professor Grizwald"]] voice when narrating.
*** Lampshaded in a story Simon told where ''forgot how he actually spoke'' in RealLife and yelled out things like orders for food in his Grizwald voice for a couple of weeks. One can only imagine how it must have sounded like.

** The word "Spacker". Mentioned multiple times in Podcast/TheYoGPoD [[ItMakesSenseInContext as a made-up nickname for an illegal substance]], and is the name of a character in ''Shadow Of Israphel''.
** Simon and Lewis' [[StalkerWithACrush love of Tina Barrett]]. Especially prevelant in The [=YoGPoD=], where they mention that they regularly check her Website/MySpace.

** Similarly, Sjin likes to call Rythian's character Pontius in their [[VideoGame/{{Trine}} Trine 2]] playthrough "Fatty" or "Pie Lord".

** ARSE Mines in Simon and Lewis' ''VideoGame/{{Magicka}}'' playthrough with [[Creator/TheCynicalBrit TotalBiscuit]]. During their Christmas livestream when they finally begin playing ''Magicka'' again, ARSE-Mines are simultaneously their best weapon against Dwarves, and their worst enemy with {{Total Party Kill}}s.

** The 6th TGS Podcast has WebVideo/{{Jesse|Cox}}, [[Creator/TheCynicalBrit TB]] and Simon respectively, beards and all.

** The Yogscast have also played with [[Creator/TheCynicalBiscuit TotalBiscuit]], LetsPlay/CaptainSparklez, LetsPlay/SeaNanners, and Music/TayZonday.

** Tom and Ben guest appeared in one of Creator/AchievementHunter's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMMZ4c-YBgE Gmod videos]], so [[Creator/GavinFree Gavin]] and Fiona [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MREXW9q68WQ returned the favor.]] Lewis and Spiff also guested in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIx6BhPXtow another AH]] Gmod video and in return, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFbEUO4p-6I Jack and Ryan]] were the guests.

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: In part 8 of ''VideoGame/{{Magicka}}'', Simon blew himself off a bottomless pit thanks to the ARSE-mines he placed. Later on in the Twitch Livestream on 20th of December, Simon gets blocked on a bridge by one of his own ARSE-mines. Simon (the first time), and [[Creator/TheCynicalBrit TotalBiscuit]] (the second time) say this word for word.

** Lewis is doubly the OnlySaneMan when he and Simon play with [[Creator/TheCynicalBrit TotalBiscuit]] in their ''VideoGame/{{Magicka}}'' playthrough; Simon is off being TheLoad and TheFool while [=TotalBiscuit=] becomes a LargeHam ''and'' DeadpanSnarker, somehow.

** Simon says meece/meeces is the plural of moose, and don't you let anyone ever tell you different! [[note]]Though, the developers of ''VideoGame/{{Magicka}}'' (the game the Yogscast was playing with [[Creator/TheCynicalBrit TotalBiscuit]]) agree with Simon and ''also'' called them meece.[[/note]]

* DropTheHammer:

* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Simon. This also happens to both of them whenever they play ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' in the [[Machinima/YogscastMinecraftSeries Minecraft series]].

In one [[Podcast/TheYoGPoD YoGPoD]], he started to talk about how religion was bollocks when Simon [[ShutUpHannibal interrupted him with a speech]] that every time he goes on a "fucking Dawkins rant" he sounds just as insane as a Christian fundamentalist. Much later, when they met a priest in the ''[[Machinima/YogscastMinecraftSeries Minecraft]]'' series, Simon said he was waiting for Lewis to "go all militant atheist" on him, but Lewis declined.

** Taken to almost an art form; the only thing stopping Simon and Lewis from mining out entire buildings for loot in the [[Machinima/YogscastMinecraftSeries Minecraft series]] is a combination of a [[ShopliftAndDie watchful NPC]] and their own incompetence.

* LetsPlay: Sometimes a hybrid with machinima, as with the ''Machinima/YogscastMinecraftSeries''.

** Simon voices nearly ''every character'' in the Machinima/YogscastMinecraftSeries. He also habitually imitates other voices in other videos, such as Boone in the ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas'' LP.

** Simon is red, eager to cause damage and wreak havoc and clearly the most spirited about this experiment. Lewis is blue, thinking things through sometimes too carefully, and hardly unnerved. During Planetoids in the [[Machinima/YogscastMinecraftSeries Minecraft series]], while Simon was loudly crying over mobs spawning, at night, left alone, and having died earlier, Lewis ignored him and commented on how the clouds were "causing some trouble for him."

* SpotOfTea: This is one of Lewis' favorite drinks.

** Also, [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaffa_Cakes Jaffa Cakes]]. When Lewis and Simon got the chance to star in their own DLC for ''{{Sanctum}}'', the entire point was keeping their horde of "[[WritingAroundTrademarks Joffo]] [[BlandNameProduct Cakes]]" safe.

* {{Unperson}}: Happened to Caff following his removal, with multiple videos featuring him being either made private or simply deleted. Interestingly, this has happened to neither Turps nor Sjin, possibly because their depatures were arguably voluntary.

* OneSteveLimit: Averted thanks to screennames which separate the four Toms that work in the Yogscast, as well as the three Johns.

** ''Trouble In Terrorist Town'' has this occur regularly with the Barnacle traitor weapon, [[https://youtu.be/47XdOO2Kee0 as demonstrated by this compilation by ThatMadCat]]. It's gotten to the point where the Yogs assume that barnacles ''always only catch traitors'', but actual statistics indicate that while traitors catching themselves or their buddy happens a lot (about 25% of the time). Hilariously, Lewis claims that he never gets caught in his own barnacles... Except the statistics also say that ''he gets caught in his own barnacles the most out of any of the TTT players''. This trope is even spoken word for word at one point!

In July of 2019, Caff was fired after allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power. Shortly afterwards, Turps stepped down as CEO following similar allegations, and Sjin also left a month later, after being investigated for historical alleged claims of behaviour along the same lines. In October 2019, Hannah also left the Yogscast, saying she felt it was "the right moment to go [her] own way."
