Viktor, the Unlucky Fatuus

Tales of Winter

Viktor, a Fatuus posted inside the Favonius Cathedral, is recruiting people to his cause. Sensing an opportunity to learn more about the Fatui, the Traveler humors him by retrieving treasures. From him the Traveler learns that the Fatui is composed of thousands of grunts organized under the leadership of the Harbingers, the eleven top enforcers of the Tsaritsa's will, each of whom is conferred with a Delusion, an artifact Viktor claims confers greater power than even the Visions.

Prerequisite Quests: "Song of the Dragon and Freedom" (Archon Quest Prologue, Act III); complete "Tales of Winter" Daily Commission at least once

Sensing that the people of Mondstadt are growing hostile towards the Fatui, Viktor requests the Traveler to procure some local specialties he can bring home to Snezhnaya: a specialty dish from Good Hunter in exchange for a Satisfying Salad, a bookmark handmade by Flora, and a cocktail from Charles, of which the latter requires protecting a shipment of goods from slimes. Upon handing the specialties, the Traveler learns from Viktor that he has been posted in the Favonius Cathedral without so much a word from either Signora or the rest of the delegation at the Goth Grand Hotel ever since.

Return to Days of Winter

With news of Signora's death reaching Mondstadt, Viktor finally receives his orders to return to Snezhnaya until he is reassigned elsewhere, so he asks the Traveler to give him a farewell gift for Lily, the only other person besides them willing to talk to him. At With Wind Comes Glory, Marjorie asks them to find Schuster, who she tasked with finding Wolfhooks to use as dye for her dolls. After saving him from hilichurls at Wolvendom, Schuster gives the Traveler the Wolfhooks to give to Marjorie, who then crafts a doll, which the Traveler gives to Viktor as a parting gift to the girl who was his only friend in Mondstadt.

And This Treasure Goes To...

In Lingju Pass in Liyue, the Traveler and Paimon chance upon an abandoned camp, as well as a diary of a research into the Pass despite Treasure Hoarder activity, suggesting to Paimon that the scholar ran afoul of the Hoarders. After driving them away, the Traveler frees Alrani, a scholar from the Sumeru Akademiya, who points them to a treasure underneath a tree in the middle of the Pass.

Endless Research

In Liyue Harbor, the Traveler finds Alrani fretting over the threat of failing her thesis unless she finds a different subject of research. Seeing the Traveler as her big break, she asks them to demonstrate their ability to tap into the elements without the need for a Vision by defeating hilichurls, then their ability to use Elemental Sight to find and defeat slimes.

In Another Land

The Traveler meets Alrani again in front of the Outlander Affairs Agency offices in Ritou in Inazuma, who airs her woes over her thesis about the Traveler being rejected by the Sumeru Akademiya, to say nothing of her earlier troubles with studying in Mondstadt around the time of Dvalin's attack, then in Liyue at the time of Rex Lapis's apparent death; now, she asks the Traveler to help her document life in Inazuma under the Vision Hunt Decree. Against the advice of her countryman Vahid, owner of Syavushi Bakshesh Shoppe, Alrani goes around taking photographs of locals, which gets her in trouble but for Vahid intervening on her behalf. Back at the Shoppe, Vahid puts Alrani up to speed regarding the political situation in Inazuma, and asks her to assist him in marketing fertilizers while he is helping to process her Travel Permit, then asks the Traveler for ingredients so he can cook a dinner for them.

Fertilizer... Salesperson?

Iwata, a farmer at Watatsumi Island in Inazuma, is trying to make his own fertilizer because he cannot go to Ritou to buy some from Vahid, and asks the Traveler and Paimon to appraise his latest attempt. The following day, however, they find Iwata being attacked by slimes, which they think may have been attracted to the smell of the fertilizers. The trio are then approached by Gorou, who has heard complaints of a foul smell from Iwata's farm; recognizing the fertilizers as the source, he asks Iwata to cease production. He is then alerted by his men of a suspicious woman selling fertilizers, and asks the Traveler to join him back at Bourou, who recognizes her as Alrani. To help verify her credentials, Gourou asks the Traveler to find Kaushik, another researcher studying the history and culture of Watatsumi, who is dismayed at Alrani's audacity to visit from Ritou at a time when tensions between Watatsumi and the Shogunate still run high. After Kaushik vouches for Alrani, Gorou to give her clearance, though he also asks her to assist Iwata in producing fertilizer as an apology for causing a minor disturbance, and despite her reservations, Kaushik encourages her to accept it if she is to complete her thesis and graduate from the Sumeru Akademiya.

At the lower levels of Wangshu Inn in Liyue, the Traveler and Paimon meet Garcia, a Fontainean craftsman, and Lutong, his Liyuan assistant, developing a "Numbering Machine," a tool that will allow people to perform calculations, starting with developing a formula for radish soup, who then asks them to taste a dish made using the formula.

Renting out the kitchen at the upper levels of the Inn, Garcia and Lutong experiment on different variations of the dish, only to find the result less palatable than their last attempt. With Yanxiao unwilling to talk to them out of consternation for their repeated use of his kitchen, and with them trying to save as much money as possible for their upcoming trip to Sumeru, they ask the Traveler to cook a radish soup for them the old-fashioned way. Finding the dish delicious, they conclude that there are many other factors involved in cooking, and they immediately decide to head west to Sumeru to find inspiration in the Akademiya's library.

Garcia's Paean: Key Items

The Traveler and Paimon encounter Garcia and Lutong again in Lokapala Jungle in Sumeru forced to find Slime Condensates in the wild to use as lubricants for the Numbering Machine, as not only are the ones sold in Sumeru City of inferior quality, but Garcia blew their budget on books. After the Traveler helps them procure condensates by defeating some slimes, Lutong asks for their help in future endeavors, even as he rues having to serve as Garcia's accountant, having joined him in the first place to avoid having to work as one with the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

The Traveler and Paimon cross paths with Garcia and Lutong anew in Sumeru City, this time having trouble haggling with local merchants with finding replacement parts for the Numbering Machine, in particular those made from the same materials as the insignias found with Treasure Hoarders, and asks the Traveler to share some in their stock with them, even as Lutong suggests that they find part-time jobs as accountants for the Zubayr Theater.
