To-do list:
- Rename Guttural Growler to Raspy And Tough and retool it directly (as opposed to launching a new trope) to refer to where a raspy voice is used to symbolize the character being tough, and make it a unisex trope about the general "raspy=tough" idea.
- Rewrite the description at Sandbox.Raspy And Tough.
- Clean up on-page examples.
- Clean up wicks.
From what I saw on this site, Guttural Growler seems to have a confusing definition. It is often stated to be "character has a low, raspy voice", which isn't exactly a trope and would fit much better on things like Evil Sounds Raspy (raspy voices signifying evil characters) or Tomboyish Voice (a girl with a raspy voice to signify her as a tomboy). So I think a wick check is in order.
Here's the check (with organizing help from Yindee) and the results:
- Gruff/Raspy voice with some context (10/50)
- Chairs (22/50)
- ZCE (14/50)
- Unsure (4/50)
Solutions:
- Create a trope where a raspy is voice is used to symbolize the character being tough. Make a male-centric example to a "Tough guy with raspy voice" example and move female examples to Tomboyish Voice. If not, we can create a unisex trope about the general "raspy=tough" idea. (though that might also need a seperate wick check for TV).
- Rename and redefine the trope (in-line with the first solution)

Bumping the thread, cause I would like people to help add examples on Sandbox.Raspy And Tough.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ABumping.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ABumping again.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AAnother post, but added three examples (one of them being suggested here). I’ve been browsing some of the wicks for any salvageable examples but unfortunately, most of them are “this character has a raspy voice” examples so it was kinda hard.
Edit: Make that five examples.

She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AIf you are trouble gathering wicks, you can take the sandbox to TLP. You have the minimum requirements needed to start a draft.
Macron's notesI think taking it to TLP would be a good idea at this point.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. Is it also possible to disambig Guttural Growler once the trope launches?
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ABumping this thread as well the TLP .
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AYes, disambiguating Guttural Growler after the TLP stuff is done is fine.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. If the votes don't change, I'll copy the examples to the sandbox and delete the TLP. Would that be fine?
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/Ae: misread
Should be fine

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupMaybe Raspy and Tough should be the disambiguation page, since it sounds more generic.
I checked and Raspy And Tough's three most recent hats are from late August, so maybe the draft is just slow-paced instead of dormant, since the fourth hat and the single bomb were from much earlier in the month (all of them coming from after Amonimus's August 22 post in this thread, incidentally).
Edit: The timestamp indicates that that post was made when it was August 23 in most of the world (at the time, it was 11 PM where I live). (Not a big deal; just mentioning it since it'll say August 23 for people who live east of where I live.)

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. So the draft now has 3 bombs and 4 hats. At this point, I’m not sure if I can see the Raspy and Tough trope into fruition.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AIf the TLP draft doesn't come into fruition, do we just disambig?
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectFair point.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AI think so, since the concept doesn't have a target page.
Bumping so we can disambiguate the page. The “raspy and tough” idea can be sent to the salvage yard.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AGuttural Growler is a disambig page now. Any other target pages? Should the "deep voice" tropes go on there as well?
Smoky Voice and Voice of the Legion are the only other ones I can definitively decide on; unsure about Power Makes Your Voice Deep.
Silver and gold, silver and goldWould it be too much to reverse the order of the rename?
You mean swap the words in what would have been the renamed trope? It doesn't matter much right now because it didn't make it out of TLP, and more importantly, it lost to Raspy And Tough by votes.
Finished the Main/ namespace as well as the A-B section.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ACharacters/ A-B is now done. 1799 wicks left.
I also made the Rapsy and Tough TLP Up for Grabs, in case wants to tackle it.
Amtgard. The Duchy Of Linnagond has a ghost wick according to the related pages, but the page doesn't exist.

Crown Description:

I can relate to that. Don't worry about it.
