The Students Collectively
The Students
Tropes applying to the 16 students
- Aborted Arc: All of the student's character arcs were changed in DiOS from LPoD. This is because the story is vastly different and the arcs just wouldn't work with the current plot plus the new characters.
- And Now for Someone Completely Different: When Shiro gets brainwashed in LPoD, Emilynn begins narrating. It's unknown who the narrators of the last two chapters are, however.
- The Cameo: Played with. Yep, the Forest Of Despair cast makes cameos in this story in ways you don't want them to. Hello, Kazuhiko's dead body!
- Oh look there's the Master! And she kills everybody!
- Mysterious Past: At times, it can seem like everybody is hiding something about themselves and knows way more than they should. Especially Shiro.
- Odd Friendship: Can be how Keiji and Choumi's friendship is viewed. One is an overly excited dog lover while one is harsh and doesn't give a crap about other people's opinions.
- Could be the case of Shiro, Eimu, and Yoshi, though the story has not given much information yet. Although Shiro is younger, he is still obsessed with logic and still became friends with a paranoid conspiracy theorist and the person that hangs out with them and doesn't say anything.
- One-Steve Limit: Averted. Natsuki Sumeragi and Kitsu Natsuki have their names switched and are both actors, though Sumeragi is a voice actor while Kitsu does commercials. Emilynn is also the Ultimate Lucky Student. With the new cast members, Himura and Yuu share the same talent, the Ultimate Violinist. Tahlia is the Ultimate Inventor but this takes place before V3 so it is safe to say Miu actually stole the talent from her (also Tahlia is not official).
- Recurring Element:
- Having multiple girls whose name ends in -ko.
- This time there're Etsuko, Ichiko, and Sachiko.
- There is an Ultimate Lucky Student.
- The protagonist has an ahoge.
- Having multiple girls whose name ends in -ko.
- Separated by the Wall: The first motive of the killing game, having the boys on one side and the girls in the other, plus Shiro, with Yuuki in the wall.
- Teen Genius: Many of the Ultimates. It is safe to assume Shiro was one but during the events of the story he is an adult.
- Wacky Homeroom: Much like its sister story, the cast is just as diverse. Chaos ensues.
Female Students
Mei Yamazaki
Ultimate E-Sports Gamer
- Asshole Victim: The first victim of Lost Paradise. It is hard to feel sorry with Mei knowing that she's the mastermind. Though it's clear that there's way more to the story than we currently know.
Asuka Takano
Ultimate Volleyball Player
- Action Girl: Given her talent. Asuka actually does a good job holding her own during her execution.
- Only Sane Woman: Is this to the other girls.
Etsuko Abe
Ultimate Psychologist
- Psycho Psychologist: Downplayed. She seems to just be a little eccentric.
- The Shrink
- There Are No Therapists: Averts this.
Emilynn McKay
Ultimate Lucky Student
- Audience? What Audience?: She frequently calls Shiro an anime protagonist and acknowledges that her free time event was initiated.
- Born Lucky / Born Unlucky: Zig-zags between the two.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: She does it so often it might as well be her hobby.
- Fountain of Memes: Might as well be her talent.
- Fourth-Wall Observer: Lampshades it frequently and is conversed in reviews to the story.
- Medium Awareness: Emilynn likes to point out various elements of the plot.
- Unluckily Lucky: Emilynn appears to be this, having almost been crushed by two car generators in her introduction.
- Walking Disaster Area: Two car generators have already attempted to crush her.
Ichiko Miyashita
Ultimate Historian
Sachiko Isobe
Ultimate Miko
- Miko: Literally her talent.
- Shrinking Violet
Natsuki Sumeragi
Ultimate Voice Actor
- Vocal Dissonance: Her real voice is actually quite deep, but she can make her voice higher and more fitting for her appearance.
- Voice Actor: Literally her talent.
- Woman of a Thousand Voices: Isn't it obvious?
Mizore Kurushima
Ultimate Mathematician
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: She thinks the ducks on her mom's new umbrella are staring into her soul and now it's possessed by a demon. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
- Good with Numbers: A given considering her talent.
- Mad Mathematician: She's the Ultimate Mathematician and a cloud cuckoo lander. What did you expect?
- Million to One Chance: She calculated an even lower chance of whoever made the spaceship would get their investment back.
Choumi Sokudo
Ultimate Courier
Seina Amano
Ultimate Game Master
Chika Akahoshi
Ultimate Cosmologist
Leonie Sommer
Ultimate Game Developer
Tahlia Catherine King
Ultimate Inventor
Male Students
Shiro Amari
Ultimate Composer
- Abusive Parents: Shiro's father, Einosuke, might be the biggest piece of crap in the Committee Saga. Though not much is known about the current state of Shiro's mother and the relationship they now have.
- Anti-Hero: Shiro has always been this because although he is a good person at heart, he is not afraid to use and look down on others. This is further explored in DiOS where there's a lot more time to explore more of his good and bad qualities. And, considering he actually thinks about killing somebody in the prologue for making a joke, his sanity is being more rightly questioned.
- The Cynic: Shiro goes on full internal monologues about how bad the world is. Although he acts calm and collected on the outside, Shiro looks down on everybody and is often seen as arrogant.
- Darkand Troubled Past: Shiro's past gets more explored in Despair in Our Stars than Lost Paradise. From what the story has revealed, Shiro has an abusive father way too obsessed with having a lot of children and used to have a good relationship with his mom before something happened. Then he made it to Hope's Peak and befriended Yoshi and Eimu and it's clear something horrible happened with them. Eventually, Shiro made it out of Einosuke's gasp with the help of Kotori, who probably abused him as well. It doesn't take long to see why Shiro has such a low view of the world.
- Massive Numbered Siblings: One of twenty-eight. Though DiOS makes it clear that the number is likely higher.
- Only Sane Man: His underclassmen have made him this.
- The Protagonist: Sorta obvious by now. Constantly lampshaded by Emilynn.
Ayamu Tachibana
Ultimate Graveyard Shift Worker
Jun Fumimoto
Ultimate Stage Manager
- Noodle Incident: Apparently ticked Monokuma off so much he provided an extra motive.
Ryoichi Homura
Ultimate Demonologist
Saitou Katatake
Ultimate Duelist
Himura Sachihiro
Ultimate Violinist
Kitsu Natsuki
Ultimate Commercial Actor
Osamu Imai
Ultimate Personal Assistant

Rokuro Karasuma
Ultimate Masseur
Nonbinary Students
Yuu and Yuki 'Yuuki' Akimoto
Ultimate Duet
—-- Conjoined Twins: An unusual example with one male and one female.
- Separated by the Wall: Inverted. Rather than be separated by a wall they are literally stuck in one, with Yuu on the boys' side of the gymnasium and Yuki on the other.
- Solo Duet: Technically what they are since they're the Ultimate Duet and are conjoined twins.
