YMMV / Welcome To Eden 2022

Go To

  • Abandon Shipping: To those who ship Alma/Ibon, In season 2 it had lost most shippers when Alma killed Ibon out of jealousy and her approval to Astrid.
  • Adorkable:
    • Ibón is a socially shy, sensitive and good-natured teenage boy who's been through a lot of pressure from his abusive father while working at his hotel. Many fans found him cute and nice, which is helped by the portrayal of his actor Diego Garisa.
    • Fans also found Bel very endearing during her first date with Zoa, especially her getting nervous while trying to declare her feelings for Zoa, who smiles and tells her she already knows.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Was Gabi really aware of Astrid's evil intentions after she heard that Zoa and Bel were to be executed and what a monstrous person she really is? On one hand, she lashes out at Som while referring to Eden as "hell" rather than a so-called paradise. To be fair, while snitching on her own sister to Astrid was unforgivable, Gabi actually didn't think that she would punish the pair the way she did, not that her naivety excuses it either. But on the other hand, Gabi calls Astrid her "mother" while she's pleading for her to spare Zoa and Bel. One option could be that she was using reverse psychology to get Astrid to comply, even though she was only willing to release Zoa and still punish Bel, just exactly what Zoa did when Astrid and Erick questioned her on her friend Judith, to the point Brenda almost killed her with the shooting device.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Zoa is well-liked for her complicated yet endearing bond with her little sister Gabi (who she also wants to protect at any cost), her relationship with Bel and determination to help the anti-Astrid residents at Eden. However, some detractors criticize her selfish actions, like protesting Judith being rightfully excluded from the Eden welcome party as she wasn't invited without any regard for the place's safety, or almost endangering an innocent kid's life (which she did NOT care about either) to save her sister out of desperation by pressuring Bel into detonating the bombs (and even attempting to do so herself) to kill Astrid.
    • Alma got hit with his. Either is she an empathetic and understanding person or just a cynic jerk who is always following orders no matter how they affect others.
    • Nico, who genuinely wants to help Zoa, but at the same time feels threatened by Bel becoming her new "link" to Eden due to his own incompetence in handling the situation. It is also his jealousy that drives him to physically attack Bel.
    • Gabi for her restless efforts to search for her sister Zoa's whereabouts, but she got a lot of hatred from the fandom after she betrayed Zoa for Astrid., especially given how an exaggerated Horrible Judge of Character and Annoying Younger Sibling she is.
    • Eva also became of subject of this for her betrayals to the rebellion more often than not to get a promotion from Astrid.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Gabi's first attempted kiss with David as revealed in episode 6, and Gabi do kissing him later on despite her being a minor, is never adressed again, not even when Zoa finds out that Gabi arrived at Eden.
  • Broken Base: The decision to have Brenda killed off in the second season. Many fans who liked the performance of Claudia Trujillo were heartbroken and felt that it was very out of character for Astrid to get rid of her, taking into account Brenda's undying loyalty to her leader. Others think she deserved it over the people she killed and showing ZERO remorse for it, such as Zoa's friend Judith and Claudia to name a few.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: This show is way too predictable that the viewers have already figured out that Zoa, Aldo, Ibón, Charly and África were going to be invited to stay in Eden while Gabi was going to get herself invited to the island in order to trace Zoa.
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • For those that were angry because of his vile attitude and attempted murder on Zoa, admit that you were cheering loudly when Ibón finally killed Ulises by drowning him.
    • Brenda being killed by Astrid is immensely fantastic after how she killed Zoa's best friend Judith, as well as Fran, Aldo and Claudia.
  • Designated Hero: Gabi of all people after she betrayed Zoa in season 2, after multiple time she's warned her about Eden only to be ignored.
  • Die for Our Ship:
    • Som is probably this to Charly/Mayka fans.
    • Nico became a target of this by the Zoa/Bel Shippers.
  • Draco in Leather Pants:
    • Astrid gained some defenders due to her former caring personality (then turned into a hateful unstable one), originated by the trauma she had faced from her father's death. So, her pulling a slowly painful revenge on Som's father was something he had coming.
    • Brenda, despite how she was hated for murdering some of the characters, was undeniably rooted for because of her striking attractiveness and snarky personality, and her everlasting fidelity to Astrid. All thanks to the effort put into it by the actress Claudia Trujillo.
    • Joel's violent nature just entices fangirls to fantasize about spending an entire day with him on a desert island and being forcefully dragged away, probably because of the handsome Carlos Torres.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Despite his limited screentime on the show, Eloy gained a lot of fans for becoming the first deaf character on a Spanish Netflix series, whose actor Carlos Soroa is also deaf in real life, and also for being one of the nicest members of Eden.
    • Judith for her cheerful loving nature and close friendship with Zoa. All thanks to the acting of Ana Mena.
    • Aldo, for quickly becoming the Only Sane Man and noticing that something is off about the island after he Zoa, Charly, Africa and Ibon are invited to stay.
    • Brisa is also well-liked for her restless efforts to locate Eden, as well as her kind nature despite her dark clothes and appearance.
  • Evil Is Cool: For as much as one can hate her, it's not hard to admit that Brenda's fierce loyalty to the foundation and Astrid is very interesting and darkly hilarious to see, making her the most scary character in the series.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Brenda telling Ibón she would kill him if he tried to hurt Alma becomes even more harsher to hear when you realize that Alma killed Ibón for doing the same to Ulises, and also cheating on her with Orson and Eloy. His death left many fans heartbroken.
    • Zoa told Ibon that no one at Eden cared about him, not even his love interest Alma. This hits home if you recall that Ibon was killed by Alma and unremorsefully proclaiming that he had chosen the "wrong" side. Even Ibon's father gave up on looking for his son.
  • He's Just Hiding: Ibón is killed by Alma and falls off a water chasm. However, his dead body is not seen, so fans have the assumption that he survived the fall, as there's no dead body to be seen.
  • Ho Yay: The closeness between Ibón and Eloy, who teaches him how to do the sign language.
    • Of course, Ibon and Orson.
    • Especially when there's a threesome of Ibon, Orson & Eloy.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Just to name a few.
    • África is one due to having to grow up without a mother who abandoned her at a park when she was six years old, so it's very clear the reason why she masks such insecurities behind a bitchy arrogant facade.
    • Alma is also one because she is from a poor family and did not get along with her parents.
    • Nico even counts since he wants to prove himself to Astrid, not matter how selfish his goal is, and in his dying moments tells Zoa he wished that he had someone who cared about him when she admits to Gabi (pretending to be "Molly") being her sister.
  • Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Brenda, Orson, Astrid, Erick, Joel, Danae and Som are the villains who prove to be both genuinely frightening and at the same time rooted for by viewers. On the other hand, Gabi, Alma, Nico, Ulises, Eva, and the parents of Zoa and Gabi are the characters who receive the biggest amount of hatred. Gabi, for disregarding all of the good intentions of her big sister and dismissing her obvious warnings about Eden, which makes her lose the Only Sane Woman role she had in season 1. Ultimately, she ends up betraying Zoa by telling Astrid everything about her plan to have her assassinated, which proves to be the last straw for their already strained relationship. Alma, for killing Ibón out of entitled jealousy for his closeness to Orson and Eloy. Not even her sad backstory, about her parents emotionally abusing her, can condone her cruel actions. Nico is also hated for his cruel comment at Zoa that no one cared about Judith getting killed, and trying to get in between Zoa and Bel. Ulises for his vindictive and violent nature, which culminated in him attempting to kill Zoa, and being one of the few antagonists to have ZERO redeemeable traits. Eva to a lesser extent for betraying Bel and the rebellion out of pure selfishness to get promotions from Astrid, not even caring to sacrifice some of her fellow members in the process. Zoa and Gabi's parents for neglecting their daughters, due to their mother's drug addiction and their father constantly travelling for work, thus leaving them both to fend for themselves.
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • People who heard about the series stated that would only watch it because of Belinda, because it marked her return to the acting industry after five years since her last film role, or more accurately, the small cameo she had in Baywatch (2017).
    • In the case of Season 2, Carlos Torres. Most of his fans have known him for his role as Charly Flow in La reina del Flow and were eager to once again see his dark yet hilarious take as a villain.
  • Les Yay:
    • Zoa and Judith's Platonic Declaration of Love and the two lip locking.
    • Alma and Brenda. Even Alma said that Brenda is like a sister to her.
    • Danae and Som in Season 2, due to Som being naked and Danae being very close to her.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: The three times Zoa's life was threatened by Eden. Yes, Zoa, the protagonist. She was spared thanks to the comittee voting against executing her over the "Death to Astrid" debacle and Brisa's arrival at the island when she and Bel were about to be killed. However, the first time she had to lie her way out of trouble.
  • Love to Hate:
    • Brenda has her own fans who love and hate her at the same time for such a murderous heartless woman loyal to her leader and providing dark sense of humour. Points go to Claudia Trujillo's amazing performance. Said fans were disappointed when she was killed off at the beginning of Season 2.
    • Joel, despite the hate he gets, is just so damn entertaining to have on the screen, with Carlos Torres providing such an evil charismatic soldier who takes the spotlight whenever the show calls for it.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Brenda killing Fran (off-screen), Judith, Aldo and Claudia.
    • Alma crosses it when she kills Ibón for murdering Ulises, as a way to earn Astrid's trust back.
    • Astrid herself crosses it when she manipulates Isaac into believing that Nuria, his birth mother, never wanted anything to do with him and wanted him dead, before having Joel kill her.
    • Gabi betraying Zoa when she tells on her and Bel to Astrid about their plan to kill her.
  • No Yay:
    • Aldo and Brenda's conversation when he stole a buggy, later their last interaction consisting of Brenda killing him after he is lured into a trap in his failed attempt to escape the island.
    • Gabi hitting on David and kissing him is a total NO. The same applies for her and Joel. They are seen by Zoa, who is understandably disgusted at this. Gabi even tells Zoa that kissing Joel was a stupid thing to do.
    • Although the fans were not happy about Alma’s decision of killing Ibon.
  • Ron the Death Eater: While it is agreed he didn't deserve to die the way he did, however, some fans tend to exaggerate Ibon's decision to break up with Alma and asking for them to be friends, after cheating on her with Orson and Eloy, no less, as selfish and insensitive on his part. They even call out his stupidity in still trusting Alma, and that her killing Ibon was his own fault based on this trivial incident.
  • The Scrappy:
    • To be fair, Ulises is not the kind of villain you would find entertaining, for the vile murderous Eden member he truly is.
    • Alma, Alma, Alma. You'd simply be wasting your time trying to find any fans of hers when in Season 2 she killed Ibon without the tiniest shred of guilt or sadness. Even the people who were rooting for their relationship and felt for her due to her sad backstory were turned off by her actions.
    • Roberta for always drinking and never making good on her promise to stay sober. No wonder why Zoa runs away from home and Gabi later joins her.
    • Zoa and Gabi's father for not paying attention to any of his daughters while he's busy travelling and always on the phone for work. Gabi even doesn't like him either.
  • Ships That Pass in the Night: Despite their little interactions, Zoa and Ibón. Fans even thought they looked cute together when they were fooling around in episode 6 of season 2. The chemistry between the actors Amaia Aberasturi and Diego Garisa adds to the touch.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: No one was either crying or sad about Ulises and Brenda's death.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Belinda's return to the acting industry was awaited by most of her fans and her best efforts to portray África, an arrogant and popular yet lonely influencer, was met with a lot of praise, although some criticism came about due to the constant use of Spanish pronouns while partially speaking in her natural accent.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic:
    • While Gabi might not be the best little sister, it's not hard to feel bad for her when Zoa goes missing and she grows understandably worried of what might happened to her.
    • Africa gets a lot of sympathy from fans as well when she becomes pregnant with Erick's child.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Zoa for encouraging her best friend Judith into coming with her to Eden, despite the contract forbidding her from inviting any friends over, and not even considering what was the island capable of after the latter witnessed a torture, something that bites her in the ass when Judith gets eventually killed.
    • Again, Zoa counts as this in season 2 when she pressures Bel into detonating the bombs to kill Astrid, not even caring that her son Isaac is there with her despite Bel refusing to hurt a child. While their plan was frustrated and Isaac safe and sound, it was still out of character for Zoa to make that selfish decision.
    • Fans were incredibly outraged and found it difficult to sympathize with Gabi after how she sold Zoa out to Astrid just to have a better life for the two of them.
    • Although season two was meant to feel bad for Alma because of her backstory with her parents, but she still killed Ibon after he told her that he killed Ulises, and just because Alma wanted an approval for Astrid, not a good call girl.
    • Africa became this when she frustrated Saul's attempt to murder Astrid, leading to his death at the hands of Joel, and then becoming her and Erick's maid in order to be spared. However, it becomes clear she didn't really like the job after all and only accepted it as an excuse to be closer to Erick, making her motives be seen as out of self-interest. Not helping matters is Africa blaming Zoa for not rescuing her and only being more worried about Charly, completely overlooking the fact that getting trapped in the device room was her own doing.
    • There are others who just won't forgive Eva for framing Eloy of killing Ulises and allowing Zoa and Bel to be captured by Joel, her boyfriend, and his military team to be later executed, even though it wasn't her who blew the whistle on them. Basically, all of her decisions were selfish and she was willing to throw her former allies under the bus if things got out of hand.
    • While he may not know it yet, Erick leaving Africa behind for his family while she's pregnant was a crappy thing for him to do. Him calling Africa a "nobody", even though he claims he didn't mean it like that when Africa feels genuinely betrayed that Erick would say such thing, also proved to be a very sharp cut for her to bear.
  • The Woobie:
    • Zoa, who struggles to take care of her sister Gabi, particularly with her mother being a drug addict and her father traveling for work. The worst part is that, after being invited to Eden (her only escape from such miserable life), her childhood best friend Judith is killed in the cruelest way possible and now her own sister, yes the one who restlessly looked for Zoa, betrayed her for the sadistic woman she has for a leader, so you can't help but wanting to give the poor girl a hug and tell her it'll be okay.
    • Charly feeling traumatized by the death of his little sister and being unfairly blamed for the incident.
    • Ibón being emotionally and physically abused by his perfectionist father. Also, he is killed by Alma, the girl he loved and with whom he had things in common.
    • Poor Claudia becomes this after Fran is killed by Eden.
    • Eloy in season 2, when he's framed by Eva for murdering Ulises (which was the doing of Ibón), to the point that the guards beat the poor crap out of him and Alma almost executes him before realizing he was innocent.
