YMMV / Undertale: Bits and Pieces

Go To

  • Awesome Art: The main purpose of the mod was to make the game prettier, and it shows: the characters sprites are now more detailed and colorful, the textures errors have been corrected, players who prefer fullscreen have screen borders, and Frisk also gets a neat little picture of themself in the STAT menu which changes for a leaning Chara's after they killed Sans.
  • Awesome Music:
    • The Ruins have an alternate theme called "Diversions and Doorkeys" which is simultaneously more dynamic, more enigmatic and more relaxing than the original.
    • The CORE now has a No Mercy theme called "MELTDOWN" which reflects the dire situation of being in a reactor at the brink of exploding.
    • The new enemies Hitch and Portabie have a small remix of the Noisemaster theme called "Double Trouble" for their boss battle, which only replaces the "Metal Crusher" leitmotif for an entirely new theme.
    • Members of the Snowdin Canine Unit now have their own intense battle theme, "A Dogmatic Encounter" .
    • "Freakadacious Foe", Glyde's battle theme, is a dynamic reprise of "Enemy Approaching" which represents well the character's Awesome Ego.
    • The new "Enemy Poaching" theme which replaces the classic enemy theme is as engaging as it is sinister.
    • "One Step Ahead of Yourself" is an unsettling and thrilling Creepy Jazz Music, well-fit for a battle with your mirror image.
  • Funny Moments:
    • If the FUN value is set to 69, a sort of "meme" mode is activated. To give one example, Sans introduces himself as "Sans Undertale", and when he tries to do the conveniently shaped lamp trick with Papyrus...
      Sans: sup, bro?
      Papyrus: NOTHING! (walks offscreen)
      Beat
      (Papyrus briefly walks back onscreen)
Papyrus: NO, REALLY. MY DAY HAS BEEN RATHER UNEVENTFUL. (walks back offscreen)
      • And Sans' reaction to this is what seems to be an anguished-brow version of his normally unnerving Black Eyes of Evil face. Either he's annoyed at Papyrus not playing along, or his little skit with Papyrus falling flat has left him utterly crestfallen.
    • Every single bench in the game is now interactive. Press a button and watch as Frisk plops themself on it with an adorable little smile and a squeaky sound effect.
  • Remade and Improved: Undertale is a beloved indie game because of its RPG and Shoot 'Em Up battle system, its world building, its complex characters and its beautiful soundtrack, but it also received criticism for its visuals (which were considered simplistic at best), its lack of ergonomy (notably the impossibility to customize keyboard controls) and its linearity. This (albeit abandoned) mod improves the game in these regards: alongside a strong graphical improvement with console screen borders and customizable controls for keyboard, it adds a run button, the Version Exclusive Contents (notably the Mad Mew Mew battle from the Nintendo Switch version), sidequests involving new extra characters who fit with the quirky universe of the game (including one with a unique gameplay style), and even optional new sound tracks and remixes.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: If you customized your keyboard for WASD, Mad Mew Mew's battle will be a cold shower as it forces you to rebind Frisk's movements on other keys to move the right side of the SOUL, the left side being stuck on WASD keys.
  • Signature Scene: The mirror enemy fight is this (for now) due to its creativity, its Mind Screwing factor, and its awesome battle track.
