A mirror image, but not quite.
In typical Undertale fashion, Bits and Pieces is mainly lighthearted. But it's meant to make the game look better, and it will take darker turns to do so...

SPOILERS ARE UNMARKED, READ WITH CAUTION!

  • Everytime Frisk dies, alongside their soul breaking, you can see the poor child having a heart attack and falling on the ground. Death may be cheap, but it's still painful.
  • Frisk now has a new set of sprites for the Genocide run.
    • In a similar vein to Kris, their eyes are hidden by a shadow, and their clothes and face are covered with dust.
    • Also, their reflection in water shows their reflection the other way, looking like they're walking on their own head and giving the impression that the game doesn't understand what it should do.
    • Depending on the fun value, their Genocide run reflection may instead sport the Fallen Child's smile along with their usual Genocide appearance.
    • And for one final unnerving reflection bonus, there's a chance Monster Kid's reflection in the Waterfall puddles will instead show the grey, blank-eyed visage of Goner Kid. It's very much unsettling to look in that puddle expecting to see Monster Kid's usual sunny goofy face and instead see the grey, blank-eyed and despair-ridden face of the Goner Kid. It's like some demented window to another reality.
  • Speaking of Monster Kid, if you take a No Mercy run, they will feel somebody's wrong with Frisk, but will follow them anyway. The passage below the ledge where both of them get seperated in Waterfall changes in this playthrough:
    • Monster Kid insists to take another path, but you can force them to carry you on their shoulders with one word:
    • You have to repeat it three times, and the game will make sure you willingly choose to abuse them, as it's never the default choice. After that, Monster Kid will reluctantly carry Frisk over the ledge, then stressfully insist on their usefulness.
    • When you meet them at the bridge, Monster Kid's soul will glow instead of Frisk's, showing that they are the one in danger at the instant.
  • The moment they kill Sans and their LV hits 20, Frisk's tiny battle icon changes to a brighter color, and their Stats menu image now shows them with a far more leaning posture and the Fallen Child's oh so familiar smile, having now completed their journey to evil.
  • During Undyne's genocide death scene, her body's color will fade as she melts, making her death even more unsettling.
  • The modders added some infamous Dummied Out content from the original game: in one room at the east of the big Waterfall room (between Sans' telescope and Onionsan), you can talk to various (unseen) monsters who try to catch insects in dense grass, but one of them will tell you about a "friend" who's constantly smiling. At this precise moment, Frisk's soul glows red like if a danger was close. If you speak to this monster again, they ask you where that "friend" is gone.
  • The modders added a Gaster secret room you can reach by running on a south conveyor belt in Hotland: no music is playing, Frisk makes unnerving noises when they walk (and examination reveals they form Gaster's theme with each step), and the lab entry has the Mystery Man distorted face. The text on it is the infamous Entry number 17, and when you get to the exit, the same Mystery Man appears for one frame before disappearing.
  • Another room was added behind the small waterfall of the bridge seeds. After an easy puzzle, a bridge portion appears and transports you to a mysterious corridor with strange pink mushrooms and where "Starroom" is playing. When you reach the end, you can see a pink mirror which perfectly reflects the room, except for one detail as you can see above: Frisk is faceless. While it was just an unsettling Big-Lipped Alligator Moment when introduced, the 4.2.0 update changed everything: if you try to leave the room, the reflection suddenly comes out out the mirror to attack you!
    • The fight itself is a big Mind Screw on many levels. While the mirror enemy were The Blank out of the battle, they now look like an evil version of Frisk with only one glowing eye hidden behind their bangs. The game itself doesn't seem to know what they are, as if you check them, you won't get any data.
    • While the boss' music is a banger, it also adds to the uncanny factor: the starting synth sounds like a corrupted EarthBound (1994) soundtrack, and the usually oddly relaxing "Starroom" theme now sounds menacing.
    • The usually funny "Smells like" comments only leaves a blank. Even worse, it can repeat at infinite out of the dialogue box.
    • All of their attacks show that they have a perfect control over Frisk's soul.
      • They can divide it in two windows: while the left side is fine, the soul is invisible on the right and you have to dodge attacks basing yourself on its position on the left.
      • They can also stuck the soul on a precise clockwise pattern where you have to get on the right case before the three others are struck by rays.
      • Another one gives you the impression that you can move freely, but thunders form on the battle window and progressively reduce your mobility.
      • The most simple (and disturbing) attack mimics the weapon Frisk has at that moment (and cuts the window at each strike), giving you a painful idea of what your enemies have to endure when you resort to violence.
    • If the mirror enemy damages you, they form a shield around themself. While you can break it through violence, it actually is easier through the act menu, whenever you play in Pacifist to spare them or in No Mercy to kill them easier. If you do so, the enemy will break in bits and pieces.
    • If you beat the enemy peacefully, Frisk's mind will be clear and they will have the Shield ability. If you beat the mirror enemy through violence, however, the pink crystal mirror where they came from will appear to be broken and Frisk will gain the Rage ability, making them stronger as they take hits.
  • One logical consequence of the monsters escaping from you is that without the Ice Wolf to throw the ice cubes which cool down the CORE, the structure is in constant emergency as it's having a meltdown.
  • This hack includes a scrapped True Lab idea Toby had for the original game, where the long corridor's wall would grow faces and laugh at you. They like to do so here, whenever you're walking through it, leaving it or whatnot. As of the Summer 2022 build, as a placeholder they use the very welcome face of Photoshop Flowey.
