YMMV / Ultraman Taiga

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Buddy, Steady, Go, sung by Takuma Terashima.
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • After all of Imari's shockingly insensitive actions and pure jerkassery throughout Episode 3, seeing Homare punching him in the face at the end of the episode is immensely satisfying.
    • As if Tregear losing his smug isn't enough, his pure rage of having his plan to corrupt Taiga ruined brings a lot of smile to the fans. Although he did survive the fight, seeing Tregear spending his moments of defeat in utter disbelief is worth watching.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Ultraman Titas, for being the first U40 Ultraman since Joneus in 39 years, his use of brute strength in fighting enemies and flexing his muscles whenever he's introduced. To quote Pirika from episode 6:
  • Evil Is Cool: Tregear; from his devilish design to how he is capable of fighting a total of 7 New Generation Heroes, all 3 Tri-Squad members and Taro. Tsuburaya are making it clear that he's the new Belial.
  • Fan Nickname: Ultraman Tight-Ass, for Titas' absurdly muscular body built. Some even call him "Ainz Ooal Ultraman", due to their shared voice actor and baritone.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This show's major villain is An alien villain who destroyed other planets by sowing discords among the beings. To even drive the point further, said villain is also a Fallen Hero.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Ultraman R/B The Movie: Select! The Crystal of Bond director Masayoshi Takesue surprised everyone by revealing that Ultraman Tregear, the movie's Big Bad will become a recurring evil Ultraman taking over Ultraman Belial's role. However, his backstory being damn near identical to Belial's has lead to some questioning why exactly he's begun to become more of a clone of Belial than the actual clone of Belial.
  • Memetic Mutation: See the Franchise page.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Tregear has already achieve this since his first appearance in Ultraman R/B the Movie, and even said series' prequel novel, but Ultraman Taiga makes this even more outstanding, even in his human form, Kirisaki: first he blew up Taiga in front of Taro in the episode 1's Downer Beginning and then sending out Hellberus to attack a maternal monster whose protecting her baby. The list goes on from that, but his worst deed of all was to corrupt Taiga into a dark Ultraman as a jab to Taro and would even went through all the way to harass EGIS team members just to spite Hiroyuki even further.
    • The Villain Guild also had their fare share with Tregear too: either kidnapping a chick monster just to have its mother being an open target of their Zegan (for added bonus, the Zandriases are also endangered species in this show's universe) or turning an innocent baby monster into a giant bio-weapon in the span of twelve years. Their only motivation was profit, and could care less in normal civilians became casualties of their monster's demonstration in the auction.
    • The Mad Scientist Alien Chibull Mabuze kidnap various short critters and toys with various DNA to create a perfect life form. As he even said so, the true potential of science can only be realized by escaping from the chains of morality.
  • Narm Charm: The series goes whole hog with the cheesiness and sentimentality the Ultra series is known for, and it completely works. The over the top battles manage to be genuinely thrilling and the emotional scenes are genuinely touching.
  • Older Than They Think:
    • The concept of a human who becomes two different Ultramen was already explored in Ultraman Ginga when Hikaru, Ginga's host also used Ultraman Tiga at one moment.
    • Takkong's reintroduction have the monster being granted a new ability of breathing fire, a trait absent in it's debut series. While a seemingly unusual power for a water-based kaiju, there are fire-breathing Takkongs way back from the 90s' Ultra Series video game, Ultra Toukon Densetsu.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: To Akumaizer 3 as they are both tokusatsu shows that conceptualize the idea of having a team of three heroes, which in turn, inspired from the classic literary work The Three Musketeers. The concept is even carried on in the Super Sentai series starting with Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan. The difference is that Ultraman Taiga is the first series having the distinction of having three Ultramen to share a single human host. Of note, Ultraman Titas, the Tri-Squad's equivalent of Gabra, whose origin story reveals his parents being soldiers of the Heller Empire parallel Xavitan's, who was born to a demon father under service of the Akuma Clan and a human mother.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Nobody was expecting an Ultraman from U40 (Titas) to appear after the The Ultraman lay practically forgotten by the franchise for 40 years.
    • Pagos, an edited version of Baragon from the Ultra Q episode "The Rainbow's Egg", appeared in episode 11, "One Afternoon When the Magic Was Lost From the Star". This is especially surprising since this is his first utilization ever in over 53 years!
  • Visual Effects of Awesome:
    • The trailer itself shows all three Ultramen demonstrating their skills in three different scenes and their respective home worlds.
    • The opening scene of the first episode of the series gives us the space battle between Tregear vs all the New Generations Ultramen, Taro and the Tri-Squad. It looks incredible to say the least. Especially when both Taro and Tregear uses the Ultra Dynamite.
    • The series in general manages to use the CGI effects sparingly. It’s used to add to the suits, creating things that practical effects can’t capture while not being jarring. The result is essentially the best of both worlds and it is stunning to watch.
