YMMV / The Property of Hate

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Is RGB a man of his word trying to make the best of a situation where things always seem to gradually get worse, knowing that the odds are horribly stacked against him? An irresponsible fool whose attempt to prolong the world's life caused him to keep creating heroes so he could sacrifice them, making their resentment and outright hatred of him justified? Or is RGB a profoundly broken man whose self destructive descent into darkness hides the pain of knowing how many heroes he had to sacrifice and fearing that he'll lose them if he gets attached to them?
    • Is Click's hatred of RGB justified? According to RGB himself, Click was on the path to destruction and he ended up leaving Click to die at the hands of a Temper turned Grief. On the other hand, RGB flees from Click, has taken on several heroes since and makes no attempt to deny that he killed Click. When Click decides to manipulate Hero into executing RGB and she decides to save him instead, Click's first action is try and kill them in a fit of rage.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Many fans headcanon Hero as having autism, for reasons best explained in this post.
  • Epileptic Trees:
    • During Diegesis, RGB casually greets a strange, ominous looking bird-man known only as Mr. R (Aratgn'kN'AkgG) while explaining to her how "stuff" works. Mr. R is one of several character cameos in the comic. Despite this, he's the only character cameo so far who isn't from the Black Market or an obscure project of Modmad's. With all this mind, one has to ask, who is Mr. R and what is his deal exactly?
    • What is the Butterfly exactly? Is it a former hero? A minion of Hate designed to take on a form she thinks Hero would trust? Hate's personal mouthpiece? An independent antagonist who has it's own reasons to despise Hero and RGB? A Well-Intentioned Extremist who intends for Hero to reach the truth by forcing her to think for herself outside of RGB's influence? Or could she be a Threshold Guardian, who unlike TG, is actually malevolent?
  • Fandom-Enraging Misconception: RGB is not a character from Skibidi Toilet Series, and was created long before that series even existed. If anything, this small misconception only exists because RGB also has a TV for a head. The same occured for Supermarioglitchy4's Super Mario 64 Bloopers, of all things, due to the much stronger physical similarities with RGB and the SMG4 antagonist Mr. Puzzles.
  • Fan Nickname:
  • Fanon:
    • In a series such as this, this tends to happen every so often:
    • There was some belief that Negative was a result of RGB have Dissociative Identity Disorder though this one ended up being Jossed by ModMad.
    • The Butterfly being associated with Hate tends to come about due to them both being female, both have an association with scissors and being antagonistic figures who share important ties to RGB's past. This one tends to vary between The Butterfly being one of Hate's minions, a mouthpiece for Hate or is Hate herself.
    • During one of RGB's nightmare sequences, we get to see what is either a doctor's appointment or a comedy sketch which has a person called Doctor Doctor. Some fans believed him to be the Butterfly's human form due to them analyzing their designs and concluding that the two characters had similar facial structures. This one ended up being Jossed by ModMad who acknowledged the theory as something she hadn't intended.
  • Genius Bonus: The series is no stranger to these:
    • In Chapter 3: Page 50, TOby's first insult to RGB is idiot box, an antiqued term for a Television.
    • Madras is named after a type of plaid, which is what her clothes consist of.
    • Melody speaks in musical notes, which have meaning for anyone who is knowledgeable on musical theory.
    • TG transforms into various different statues from real world history, one of which is used as a Stealth Pun (and Curse Cut Short) in response to RGB asking TG to let him have one key.
    • In the intro page for Cutting Room, the various patterns seen in the cracks are actually wing patterns of various different butterflies.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
Click: What do heroes do... to monsters?
    Hero: SAVE THEM!
    • If you go back far enough on Jolley's blog, one can see a handful of hypothetical drawings of what RGB would look like as a human. From what little we see of his old head in the main series, the design seems to be unchanged aside from the technicolor hair.
  • Jerkass Woobie: TOby is an unpleasant individual who seems to hate the company of others. However considering his backstory and that he's unable to do anything on his own without someone else's help, he has every reason to be as grouchy as he is.
  • Moe: Hero, being an adorable little kid.
  • Quirky Work: Oh, definitely. The main character is a stylishly dressed man with a TV head who takes people to a dream-like world to become heroes, and occasionally encounter various different characters and strange monsters. It also introduces readers to various different concepts, some of which may only be noticeable via Rewatch Bonus.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion:
    • Hero ended up getting this early due to her short hair before RGB actually referred to them as a girl.
    • Time also gets this with even Hero accidently referring to them as female. RGB has to correct her, stating that Time is male. The fact that Time is shown with Hartman Hips (due to hourglasses being associated with the concept of time) in one panel kinda adds to the confusion.
    • The Butterfly gets this to a extent due to their simplistic design, which has run the gamut of people assuming they're male, female or even genderless.
