YMMV / Star Trek: The Next Generation S4E26 S5E1 "Redemption"

  • Angst? What Angst?: Worf doesn't seem shocked that the Romulan helping Lursa and B'Etor looks like his late shipmate Tasha.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In light of how Gowron's chancellorship turned out, as seen in Deep Space Nine, one has to wonder whether the galaxy would have been better off had Kurn gone through with his original plan to depose both Gowron and the House of Duras to become chancellor himself.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Picard criticizes the Just Following Orders excuse. In X-Men: First Class, Xavier (whose older counterpart is played by Patrick Stewart) tries to use that to stop Magneto from killing two navy fleets.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • The plot of the second part of the episode stops dead for Sela to appear to Picard, come on board, and deliver her elaborate back story to him, with Guinan following it up by telling Picard that he is responsible for her, because he was the one who ordered the alternate Tasha Yar to go back with the Enterprise-C. Absolutely nothing ever comes of this entire plotline, and Sela only appears once more, in a role that requires no connection whatsoever to her tie to Tasha Yar and the Enterprise. For all the groundwork they laid for this character, you'd think she'd have ANY kind of significance. (At least the novels and Star Trek Online have done things with her.)
      • Curiously, Picard lampshades this right from the get-go: "But why? What possible advantage could there be to the Romulans? As this now stands, I don't think this will have any impact on our strategy."
    • Also, the alternate/aged Enterprise-C Tasha could have made an appearance in a later story. In this story the oddly-chatty Sela says her mother was killed, but that could easily be a Romulan lie.
