* HarsherInHindsight: In light of how Gowron's chancellorship turned out, as seen in ''[[Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine Deep Space Nine]]'', one has to wonder whether the galaxy would have been better off had Kurn gone through with his original plan to depose both Gowron and the House of Duras to become chancellor himself.

** Also, the alternate/aged Enterprise-C Tasha could have made an appearance in a later story. In this story the oddly chatty Sela says her mother was killed, but that could easily be a Romulan lie.

** The plot of the second part of the episode stops dead for Sela to appear to Picard, come on board, and deliver her elaborate back story to him, with Guinan following it up by telling Picard that he is responsible for her, because he was the one who ordered the alternate Tasha Yar to go back with the Enterprise-C. Absolutely nothing ever comes of this entire plotline, and Sela only appears once more, in a role that requires no connection whatsoever to her tie to Tasha Yar and the Enterprise. For all the groundwork they laid for this character, you'd think she'd have ANY kind of significance. (At least the novels and ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'' have done things with her.)

** Lt. Commander Hobson stops a radiation leak in progress by deactivating the weapons systems after reporting to Captain Data of the malfunction of the power couplings that power the phaser arrays. Data admonishes Hobson for not informing him of the action he takes and tells "It's improper to take a course of action before informing your superior officer." Hobson complies by re-powering the weapons systems and asking Data for orders -- [[ObstructiveBureaucrat forcing him to look petty by ordering Hobson to repeat the same actions]]. (Note that Data doesn't belay Hobson's orders; Hobson does it himself to set Data up.) Despite the character's given bias towards Data, Hobson taking the initiative here was appropriate. On the ''Enterprise'', Geordi doesn't ask Picard what actions he should take in fixing a malfunctioning system, he takes the action to fix it and informs the Captain if the malfunction hinders normal ship functions (e.g. if a system was leaking radiation, he would work to fix the problem immediately and inform the captain about the issue and give status reports of that he or his staff is working on it, when it's expected to be fixed and when it's fixed).
** Hobson later on doesn't do himself any favors complaining when Data orders the reactivation of the weapons systems (which for some reason the malfunctioning power coupling still hasn't been fixed yet, despite the time probably being days after the launch from drydock while in the blockade and discovery of the malfunction) to use to expose the Romulan ships with a couple of low powered photon torpedoes and also moaning that Captain Picard ordered them to a rendezvous point while Data is working on figuring out how to detect the Romulan ships [[HoistByTheirOwnPetard by using their anti-scanning technique against them]].

Not really an example. Plus Gowron won because Worf grabbed the other guy.

** Picard criticizes the JustFollowingOrders excuse. In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', Xavier (whose older counterpart is played by Creator/PatrickStewart) tries to use that to stop Magneto from killing two navy fleets.
** Early in the second half of the story, Gowron dispatches a challenger with minimal fuss. Considering that all his future appearances in the franchise show that Gowron isn't too hot when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, one can only conclude that his challenger ''really'' sucked at fighting.
