- Creator Backlash: Ronald D. Moore regretted writing in this episode that only male Klingons can have a place in their government. The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "You Are Cordially Invited..." was largely his attempt to undo that perception of a completely male-dominated society by putting in the counterpart that females have complete control of their households, and their approval is needed for any change like marriage.
- Hide Your Pregnancy: If you look carefully, you can just barely see Gates McFadden's baby bump at the end of Part I.
- Spinoff: The Ambassador Class Starship, USS Excalibur, commanded by Riker in the episode Redemption Part 2, was given its own Expanded Universe book series Star Trek: New Frontier.
- What Could Have Been: "Redemption" was meant to be the cliffhanger ending of season 3, as an immediate follow-up to "Sins Of The Father". However, the producers picked "The Best Of Both Worlds" in part because it was unclear if Patrick Stewart would renew his contract.
