  • Awesome Music:
    • The gradual build-up in "Make This Go On Forever" is phenomenal.
    • "Chasing Cars" is also this, especially when the instruments kick in towards the end.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: A lot of die-hard fans cite "An Olive Grove Facing the Sea" as one of the band's best songs. It helps that a reworked version was released in their compilation Up To Now and that it is the only song from the Jeepster years that Gary still plays live.
  • Epic Riff: For a band that doesn't rely on epic riffs, the "Disaster Button" one may come off as a surprise. "One Night Is Not Enough" also qualifies.
  • Fan Nickname: Pabs or Pablo for their bassist Paul. The band also uses these nicknames for him.
  • Growing the Beard: With Final Straw, the band finally had come into their own, with more fleshed out songs and slick production that helped them achieve mainstream success.
  • Ho Yay: During many live performances of Crack The Shutters, specifically the opening verse, Gary will stand behind Nathan and embrace him, lay his head on his shoulder, and caress him. This naturally makes it difficult to play the song. The crowds love it (and Nathan seems to enjoy it too). During band introductions, Gary often flirts with Nathan or Johnny, but sometimes Paul too. Someone tweeted Gary with the simple question of “Pablo [Paul’s nickname] or Nathan?” His reply? “Pablo for kissing, Nathan for cuddling.”
  • Sequel Displacement: For most casual fans, the band's first albums is either Final Straw or Eyes Open, not Songs for Polarbears. Justified since their debut and sophomore albums haven't taken off commercially and the band don't really tend play songs from said albums that much.
  • Signature Song: A few. "Chasing Cars" is easily their most popular, but those a little more in the know might gravitate towards "Run", "Chocolate", "Take Back the City", "Spitting Games" and "Open Your Eyes."
    • "An Olive Grove Facing the Sea" can be considered this for the Jeepster era.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: Tons. "An Olive Grove Facing the Sea", "Chasing Cars", "Shut Your Eyes", "If There's a Rocket Tie Me To It" and the album version of "The Planets Bend Between Us" are some of examples of this.
  • Tear Jerker: Has its own page.
