YMMV / Silver Surfer (1990)

  • Awesome Music: Tim Follin's soundtrack for this game is easily considered the best part of the game by many. Reptyl's stage theme in particular is a stand out, and it was so good that it even got its own metal HD remix by GaMetal!
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: The game is infamous for its difficulty due to the Silver Surfer's enormous hitbox and the hard-to-see-and-predict projectiles, which makes it not fun for many people.
  • Memetic Loser: This version of the Silver Surfer is given this treatment due to the extreme difficulty of the game, in that everything he comes in contact with kills him with only one hit.
  • Nintendo Hard: One of the hardest games ever made. Not only does Silver Surfer die in one hit, but the levels are full of hazards and enemies that will likely get him, and because of the surfboard, his hitbox is massive.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: The Nintendo Hard difficulty did not help it one bit.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • The very large hitbox the Silver Surfer's surfboard gives him, making it more difficult to dodge obstacles than it should be.
    • The inability to continuously fire by holding a button down. Unless you have a Turbo controller, you will have to keep tapping the fire button repeatedly.
  • Signature Scene: The death scene, since it's extremely easy to die and most players will be seeing it a lot.
  • So Okay, It's Average: It's not a horrible game, as it is technically sound and controls well, but even if you get used to the difficulty, the game doesn't really stand out among NES shooters aside from the killer soundtrack.
