- Ensemble Dark Horse: If the phrase "Tom Waits as a Serial-Killer Killer who carries a cute bunny rabbit with him everywhere" doesn't sound worthy of a movie of his own, you shouldn't be watching this one.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Hans chastising Martin McDonagh's Author Avatar for his depiction of women, complaining that they have nothing to say and/or they get killed off. Come his next movie, which has a proactive female lead with plenty to say.
- Moral Event Horizon: Charlie killing Myra right after using a slur against her and her husband.
- Also while it's played off more humourisly Billy killing Charlie's girlfriend just for a Revenge by Proxy is even viewed as this In-Universe and puts him firmly in the Nominal Hero category (at best).
- One-Scene Wonder:
- Harry Dean Stanton as The Quaker in the story Martin tells.
- Michael Stuhlbarg and Michael Pitt as the two hit men at the beginning.
- Gabourey Sidibe as Sharice, the lady who walks Bonny.
- Tom Waits as Zachariah. In the film for maybe ten minutes. Carries the movie on his shoulders the entire time he's on the screen.
- Signature Scene: Hans refusing to put up his hands when threatened with a gun.
- Tear Jerker: The death of Myra, especially because Hans is so calm about it despite hurting deep.
- The death of Hans.
- The final version of the Vietnamese Psychopath's story.
