Trivia / Seven Psychopaths

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Billy's dog hat was not originally part of the wardrobe. Colin Farrell bought it during a road trip with Sam Rockwell and put it on his head.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: Tom Waits, an animal lover, agreed to the role without reading the script upon hearing he would be surrounded by rabbits.
  • Billing Displacement: Both Abbie Cornish and Olga Kurylenko play fairly minor characters with limited screentime but appear in the trailer and on the poster. On the inverse, Linda Bright Clay (Hans' wife, Myra), Long Nguyen (Vietnamese psychopath), and Zeljko Ivanek (Paulo) don't get billing despite playing arguably more important characters.
  • Executive Meddling: Bonnie was supposed to die in the original script, but the studio nixed it. This is referenced by Billy when he says, "You can't let the animals die in a movie. Only the women."
  • The Other Darrin: Justified by the dream sequence format: Martin's visualization of the tale of the Quaker psychopath has Harry Dean Stanton in the role. We later learn that it was Hans, played by Christopher Walken.
  • The Other Marty: Mickey Rourke dropped out of The Expendables 2 to co-star in the film. He later dropped out after having disagreements with Martin McDonagh, calling him a "jerk-off." He was replaced by Woody Harrelson.
  • Release Date Change: The film was set for a limited release on November 2, 2012, before being expanded to an earlier, wider release on October 12, 2012.
  • What Could Have Been: The original script revolved heavily on the shih-tzu getting shot in the final stand-off of the film. The film boards insisted that they shouldn't show animal cruelty and the script was changed. Billy also refers to this in the graveyard scene when he says "His rabbit gets away, because you can't let the animals die in a movie. Just the women."
