Secret Squirrel:

Super Secret Secret Squirrel:

  • Adaptation Displacement: This is sometimes claimed by some people, although in this case, one might question it. If you were, for example, watching it in the 1990s on Cartoon Network, the channel played both the original and new versions quite often. Managing to miss one or the other seems a bit hard. On the other hand, if you only saw this version on TBS or in syndication before CN was widely available, in which case it's a bit more understandable. CN was not so widely available as it would be towards the end of the decade. As a result, some shows whose reruns were less seen by then may have been out of reach to some 1990s kids more than others.
  • Awesome Art: The redesigns for Secret and Morocco are very stylish. The show's whole aesthetic fits right in with early 1990s Cartoon Network.
  • Awesome Music: Pretty much all the music. The main theme is only about five seconds long (and transitioning away from the intro to 2 Stupid Dogs), but it sets the tone for the show: sleek, cool, and awesome.
  • Even Better Sequel: It is widely agreed that this version is better than the original. For example, it has slicker animation, redesigns, and introduced a wide variety of memorable characters. Secret also becomes a cool, suave quick-thinker, as opposed to the bumbling egotist he was in the 1960s.
  • Fridge Horror: At the end of "Hot Rodney", Secret tricks Rodney into taking the dynamite belt he'd put on Morocco which then detonates. Did Secret just kill a guy?
  • Genius Bonus: Morocco Mole's evil twin brother is named Scirocco. A scirocco is a Mediterranean wind that comes from the Sahara and can reach hurricane speeds in North Africa, where the country of Morocco is located.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • One short had a platypus as the bad guy targeted by a secret agency. Years later, Phineas and Ferb has Perry the Platypus, who works for a secret agency.
    • The Chief is a buffalo. Years later, Disney's Zootopia had police chief Bogo, who was also a buffalo.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Greg the Gingerbread Man. Sure, he's a deeply embittered and vengeful villain who cares little about the protagonists, but many admit that his own disturbing death was a bit over the top.
  • Shipping: Secret and Penny.
  • Too Good to Last: Despite many believing this version to be even better than the original, it only had half as many episodes as the original.
