YMMV / MediEvil 2

Go To

  • Funny Moments: The part where Mander pisses off Palethorne by reminding him of Iron Slugger's defeat.
Palethorn: What a strange adversary Fortesque is. He's persistent, I'll give him that. And he certainly has the beating of you two.
Mander: He also defeated Iron Slugger, Master.
Palethorn: He also defeated Iron Slugger... YOU DOLT! I've had enough of your slimy whining. GET OUT!
(Palethorn pushes Mander off his ship)
  • Good Bad Bug: One amusing glitch involves charging a sword attack on a ladder, which results in Dan's upper body spinning wildly and uncontrollably once he gets off.
  • Narm: Kiya's murder by Jack the Ripper and Dan's ensuing Heroic BSoD is hastily executed. Also, Kiya being such a flat character who only has two or three lines through the entire game, it's hard to see this scene as a legit Tear Jerker.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • Once you've used up all of the stuff that a healing spring provides you, it never ever replenishes, unlike in the first game. Thus, unless you're willing to hunt down energy vials, you may end up locked in an losing situation.
    • Fall damage was added in this game and it only serves to make the game even harder, thanks to the awkward platforming and the increase in narrow walkways over solid ground.
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike: Larger amounts of enemies with higher amounts of health and a wider variety of attacks that usually reach longer, fall damage that can easily cause a death, taking damage now stuns you, and rejuvenation fountains no longer replenish when revisiting a level.
  • Sequelitis: While still a good game, MediEvil 2's gameplay shortcomings and rushed plot can make it feel like a letdown compared to the tighter and better written original game.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Kiya ends up being Dan's love interest despite minimal interaction between the two. Considering that the cancelled sequel would have revealed that Kiya was Evil All Along, this might have been intentional.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Kiya could have not only been a better love interest for Dan, but also a better character in general. Instead, she has barely any screen time, barely any lines, and just feels like a waste of space.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • This game is set many centuries after the first game in Victorian England. They really could have played up the Fish out of Water angle for laughs (this is a comedy game after all). Instead, the game glosses over it and gives us a generic plot that really isn't all that funny or memorable. General consensus is that after the first visit to Whitechapel, the game runs out of steam and it becomes a slog to finish.
    • TGX notes in his review that having Sir Daniel's second adventure occur so close to the present day severely crippled possibilities for future games. Rather than potentially going forward one century each game allowing for us to see multiple time periods the franchise jumps all the way to the late 19th century. Making it very difficult to continue the series regardless of how the game performed.
