YMMV / Koihime†Musou: Tales of the Armored War Gods

Go To

  • Arc Fatigue:
    • The series has been going on since 2014 and finally ended in 2021. Almost every seeming Big Bad so far is inevitably usurped and the main character has died twice. It's no wonder that for some this is starting to settle in.
    • Not helping matters is the fact that the series tried to staple together the plots of Juken Sentai Gekiranger, Kamen Rider Gaim and Koihime†Musou despite the fact that all three of those stories don't mesh well, then tried to make that frankenplot last over five years.
    • The first "End of the Armored War Gods" saga was originally posted in September 2016. As of August 2020, it's up to three "End of the Armored War Gods" sagas, and only ended the next year.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Every villain seems to have another hiding behind them waiting to erase any sense of triumph the heroes gain. There's always a cruel twist to create drama and after five years of writing there's still no resolution to any of this in sight. After a while reading the story it just gets hard to care.
  • Fight Scene Failure: To the point where some of the fights scenes aren't even fights and can be summed up as "Villain gloats, Belt sounds, finishing move, the villain just dumbly stands there and takes the hit".
  • Seasonal Rot: In addition to the dropping quality of the story itself, this "saga" also marks a notable drop in quality for Kamen Rider Chrome and Ten-Faced Paladin in general as their previous stories were received far better. This can mostly be attributed to the fic drawing the bloat of the authors attention compared to their other fics and the fact that it just won't end. It gets to the point that in the author's note in the final chapter, Kamen Rider Chrome acknowledges that it "dragged on".
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Many of the villains fall into this because of the story's Protagonist-Centered Morality.
    • While Nise is a cowardly, lying, back-stabber the writer goes out of his way to bash him, making every scene he's in to make him as one-dimensionally evil as possible to justify torturing him. The blatant bias in the narrative, and how Nise seems to just exist to have the writer shit on him makes him quite pitiable as it becomes clear that he's less of a character and more of a punching bag with no agency.
    • Iori's fiance, Ryoma, while she's vapid and shallow...that's all she is. But this seems to justify Iori treating her with malignant disdain and having revenge fantasies about killing her.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • The Armored War Gods in general. They built their fame and status on being 'Messengers of Heaven' when in reality they just magically got toys they were carrying to turn real. They never tell their loved ones the truth of their origins in favor of their fabricated backstories. It makes all of their relationships duplicitous and built on lies by default. It doesn't help that all of them to some extent can best be summed up as "Generic Isekai protagonist with some of the personality of the Rider they're based on." with the story-original riders being even flatter characters.
    • The Sloth Rinrishi Nanamomo. She's supposed to be a fun and sexy character whose death at Bujin Gaim's hands was cruel and tragic. However, she spent six volumes with a characterization that amounted to being lazy and sleeping around rendering her a Flat Character, with her apathy reaching the point of joining the harem of an evil noble who drugged and raped young women and didn't care. It's hard not to see her fate as deserved.
