YMMV / Kingdom Hearts III: Re𝄌Mind

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: In an early scene in the DLC, Saïx calls out Xigbar for giving Luxord the order to go after the Black Box directly in front of Master Xehanort. When Xigbar shrugs and says the task he gave Luxord will help the Organization in the long run, Saïx looks to Master Xehanort in confusion, only to find him merely smirking at him and basically shrugging and closing his eyes, clearly ordering him to carry on with the discussion. Saïx drops the subject and does so. It’s clear Master Xehanort does know about Xigbar’s directive to Luxord, but even for someone who Luxord said is too obsessed with the Keyblade War to care about it, it’s very hard to get a fix on where Master Xehanort really stands on it, as well as Xigbar’s very clear independent streak. Could Xehanort really not care and think that finding the Black Box is a happy bonus to his goals, and thus why he allows the search for it to continue? Or is there the smallest possibility that he actually was in some sort of league with the Master of Masters and Luxu for whatever their plans with the Box are, even if the latter’s plot to use him as the “scapegoat” worked marvelously well?
  • Best Boss Ever:
    • The Re Mind DLC makes Riku, Aqua, Roxas, and Kairi all playable during their own boss battles. Roxas and Kairi especially shine, the former for being just as powerful in player hands as he was in the original story as a supporting character, and the latter for rescuing herself from the scrappy heap by being just the right level of strength to make the final boss fun yet challenging.
    • The Guardians who weren't playable in their own sections still get a chance to shine in battle, as the climax of the storyline opens with a fight where the player plays as all of them.
    • After the Re Mind storyline comes the Limit Cut episode and the Data Organization battles contained within. Where the Data bosses in II were simply the same bosses from the story with higher stats and some mechanical tweaks, the Data bosses in III are completely redesigned and dialed up to a far higher difficulty level than their II counterparts without being at all cheap or unfair. The brand-new remixes of their music are just the cherry on top.
    • Defeating all of the Data bosses unlocks the Secret Episode, and the SNK Boss found therein has rightfully earned his spot as not only the best superboss in Kingdom Hearts III, but as possibly the best superboss in the entire franchise, dethroning even Lingering Will.
  • Even Better Sequel: The Limitcut and Secret Episodes are this compared to the Data Organization and Lingering Will fights from II Final Mix. The fourteen fights are considered the best designed fights in the series by far, fixing all the flaws and nearly all the cheese present in their II counterparts while also making the entire Data Organization completely new fights rather than simply altering the original fights.
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: Whereas the base game got the opposite reaction, one of the few complaints about this DLC is that it blindsides players with how hard it is for its Data Battles. Every single one of the fights is hard (though some are harder than others), and the Final Boss is an SNK Boss that is one of the hardest battles in the entire Kingdom Hearts series, if not the hardest battle. There have been a few balance patches to tweak the most unfair aspects, but it remains a fact that the Limit Cut fights are brutal. A common joke among the fanbase is that Square Enix heard the complaints that the base game was too easy, and said "You want us to make the game harder? If you insist."
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike: While Re𝄌Mind isn't too difficult, Limitcut ramps up the difficulty for a game that is considered to be quite easy by Kingdom Hearts standards. Not only are the Superbosses all obscenely tough, but the True Final Boss safely assumes that you'll lose to him on your first attempt, and plays the bad ending on the first loss.
  • Signature Scene:
    • From the titular scenario, the climax in which Mickey goes One-Man Army on the Xehanort Replicas, followed up by a moment nearly twenty years in the making: Kairi’s debut as a playable character.
    • From the Limit Cut, most fans acclaimed Xigbar’s quick reaction event.
    • From the Secret Episode, the Bad Ending was particularly striking towards many players for being the first instance of such in the series. From a gameplay perspective, Yozora’s move where he steals the Keyblade resonated a lot with players.
  • Special Effect Failure: Several lines throughout the DLC have poor audio quality, most notably several lines from Jason Dohring as Terra and David Gallagher as Riku.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: After the notoriously unfair superbosses from Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance and the underwhelming Dark Inferno from the base game, many fans went into the Limitcut and Secret episodes with cautious optimism at best. The end result was a series of fights considered to be the best in the series, beating even those from II.
