YMMV / Glitch Techs

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Smashozaurs has "I don't know how to explain it, but it feels to good to smash things!" and "Aren't you two smashed out already?" (See definition 7 of the verb "smash" here.)
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Does Mitch Kill-Steal and hog EXP as much as he can because his ego made him selfish? Or is he secretly insecure about not being the best and slows down other's progression? "I Am Mitch Williams" brings up how he used to be part of a team with his older siblings and admits that he's scared that they no longer need him unless it's for gaming stuff from his job.
  • And You Thought It Would Fail: The series was originally written off by viewers as a failure before it even premiered because one of its co-creators made the much derided Fanboy and Chum Chum. However, it quickly grew a massive fanbase for its hilarious writing and awesome animation.
  • Awesome Art: The show is beautifully colorful and vibrant, the animation is very smooth and fluid, and the geometric art style sports some highly appealing designs.
  • Awesome Ego: Mitch Williams wears his ego like a crown, and he's got the talent to back it up.
  • Awesome Music: The show's soundtrack filled with high-octane arcade energy, courtesy of Brad Breeck, who Robles worked with before on Fanboy and Chum Chum, but who is likely best known for his work on Gravity Falls. Special mention goes to the theme song, which has a killer instrumental that wouldn't be out of place in a final boss fight.
    • The two songs ("Sock Em Rockers" and "Kaiju, Baby!") when Miko plays Sock Em Rockers in "Settling the Score", courtesy of a collaboration between Brad Breeck and Korean-American K-Pop idol MRSHLL.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Or rather, best known for Miko Kubota. Miko's eye-catching design, her wide hips, sturdy legs and abundance of Male Gaze is one of the few reasons people is aware of the series' existence after being Screwed by the Network and premiering on Netflix without much fanfare. Even Netflix puts her front and center in the catalog.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: In BUDS it's revealed that Zahra has an insecure crush on Five. It comes out-of-nowhere and it's never addressed again unless we count the clipshow episode Find the Glitch as no other episode her crush on Five is shown or addressed, returning to her friendly but sassy personality.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Zahra was very well received as a side character. When the second half of season one was released, people were quite pleased with her enhanced screen time and a sub-plot about falling for Five, a couple that was also pretty well received.
    • Chomp Kitty is pretty popular with the fans, and has quite a few pieces of art made by said fans. It's probably the closest thing to an unofficial Series Mascot- at least, to the fandom.
  • Epileptic Trees: There are debates about the chronological order of the episodes as it has been admitted that the Netflix order is not the production order, something that is noticeable in the series if one watches close enough as some characters appear but are not formally introduced until a later episode (Zahra, Haneesh, Bergy and specially Nix whose name is not revealed until Find the Glitch [S2E6]) and the fact that Alpha barely appears in the series after its introduction.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Word of God has said that Five was going to get together with Zahra and he and Miko would be Just Friends. Despite this, Five x Miko is one of the most popular ships in the fandom, if not the most popular.
  • Fanfic Fuel: The entire premise of "video game characters coming into reality" is rife with crossover-fic opportunity.
  • Fanon: Some fans interpreted Miko as having ADHD due to her rushing through things and being impulsive. Series co-creator Dan Milano later confirmed this.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • The show shares one with Infinity Train especially since Book 3 moved from Cartoon Network to HBO Max. Both shows are being petitioned by fans to be renewed for future seasons and it helps that they both share a VA in Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Audrey for Glitch Techs and Grace for Infinity Train).
      • Later on, the fandom from Final Space joined in when the creators also petitioned to have both shows renewed.
    • Many fans of OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes are also fans of this series due to both having heavy video game influence. Bonus points for Ashly Burch doing voice work for both series (Enid in the former and Ridley here).
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In the LatAm dub, Alexandra Vicencio voices both Miko's mother and the Glitch Techs' van autopilot. For those that grew up in Latin America during the late 90s and most of the 2000s, Vicencio is best known for being the host of the gaming preview & review show Cybernet.
    • In Find the Glitch, the Techs think there's a glitch disguised as one of them. Not long after that episode streamed, Among Us, a game with a similar premise, gets a sudden surge in popularity after two years of obscurity.
  • Mexicans Love Speedy Gonzales: Even before the show had a Japanese dub, there are a lot of Japanese fans who liked the homages to their media.
  • Moe: Miko is a rather cute and hyperactive gamer geek.
  • Narm Charm: There's definitely a cheesy factor when it comes to the dialogue and humor, yet it doesn't detract from how awesome things get.
  • The Scrappy: Mike Simms is disliked by many people. When first mentioned by name, he's implied to be a bully toward Ridley. When he actually appears, he's a Bratty Half-Pint who doesn't just top Miko's score at the arcade, he goes out of his way to top it multiple times to erase her from the scoreboard entirely. When confronted, he's rude and insulting the entire time.
  • Testosterone Brigade: Thanks to her Hartman Hips and overall cute design, Miko became infamous for inspiring a slew of Rule 34 fanart, over a year before the show even premiered.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Mitch's older siblings, The Furious Four, should sound sympathetic over how their ploy of breaking game consoles is a ploy to get their little bro to hang out more. But this is disregarding that their gaming is causing a massive amount of glitches to appear and no matter how hard Mitch tries to warn them, they're not getting the hint that their actions are only causing the rift between them grow bigger. And that's not counting that they don't care about cleaning up their house — the only room that's not a covered in trash is Mitch's own room — or that the reason Mitch is so hard working is that he's presumably the one trying to make sure the group even has a house to stay in.
  • Win Back the Crowd: While Eric Robles' previous series, Fanboy and Chum Chum, was incredibly divisive due to its dimwitted characters and zany humor, Glitch Techs has been much more positively received as a fun (if a bit cheesy) action-adventure show about video games that actually did the research in regards to the subject matter.
