  • Accidental Aesop: The Rub Rabbits! could be taken to be an Aversion to the Double Standard that females normally get in fiction. Both the hero and the genius girl go through Love at First Sight before getting rejected, the genius girl technically getting more reason due to the Rescue Romance. However, the male hero decides to prove himself to his dream girl that he is not just another man. They do not stop at a mutually consensual relationship; the hero continues to show his love of her from closing down malicious pop-ups on her computer to luring piranhas away from her. Meanwhile, the genius girl repeatedly stalks then kidnaps the hero, forces herself onto him, gets the hero's friends Brainwashed and Crazy, attacks the hero, makes a robot clone of him, stalks him, and eventually decides to Murder the Hypotenuse while erasing the girlfriend's memories of him. Despite these trappings, the game clearly makes the genius girl the villain. A lot of the story is about stopping the genius girl from winning; in fact, letting her force herself onto the hero is a loss. All humour from the genius girl stalking the hero is at the genius girl's expense. Finally, the genius girl ultimately loses from The Power of Love between the hero and his girlfriend.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Feel the Magic XY/XX's antagonist is a fat magenta coloured punk who serves as an Evil Counterpart to the player character and lusts after the girl. Only one of the bosses are related to him in any way and he only uses a Humongous Mecha during the final boss fight. The hero fights him on his lonesome in the villain's factory while the girl in question is a Damsel in Distress who later sacrifices herself to protect him from the villain's beam attack only to be brought back with CPR. After being defeated, he simply leaves.
    • The Rub Rabbit's antagonist is a character who resembles Rei Ayanami who is in love with the hero and is an Evil Counterpart to the girlfriend. She is much more direct in her dealing, using various machines to attack the pair and even manages to kidnap the hero midway through the game. While the previous game's antagonist was just a thug, the genius girl actively tries to force herself onto the hero and attempts murder on the girlfriend by inflicting a memory eroding poison on her. During the final battle, the hero and his girlfriend work together to defeat the genius girl. When defeated, she takes it rather well, though she does have her own Villain Episode that takes place before the game itself.
