YMMV / Fairy Musketeers

Go To

  • Adaption Displacement: More people are aware of the anime than the OVA it spawned from. Not helping matters is the fact that the anime is available to watch on Crunchyroll, while the OVA is much harder to find.
    • Inverted with the manga, light novels, and audio dramas, with only the last of these being posted on the internet in their entirety during the peak of the show's popularity and none of them having received an English translation (with the exception of a single page of the manga being shown on one of the TV-Nihon fansubs of a tv series episode).
  • Broken Base: Which is better, the OVA or the anime? Some people may enjoy the OVA based on First Installment Wins as well as the darker, more adult feel of the story, while others may prefer the anime for its longer, more in-depth story, the addition of a few beloved characters, and being able to see the world of Fandavale firsthand.
  • Fandom Rivalry: If you look at the comment section of the episodes posted on Crunchyroll, you'll often find the series being compared to Shugo Chara. Although the rivalry isn't really much of a thing as of the new twenties, Shugo Chara could be considered to have "won" the rivalry on account of lasting longer, being a little better remembered, and perhaps most importantly getting its own sequel in 2024, something Fairy Musketeers never got.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With RWBY, to the point where a notable percentage of fanfic crosses over with it, up to and including its small presence in The Infinite Loops. This is fairly one sided on account of RWBY being more mainstream, relatively speaking.
  • Moe: The whole cast has their own type of cuteness. Some stand-outs are
    • The cheerful and lively Akazukin, who is so curious about the world of Erde and earnest in her mission.
    • Gretel may be a villain, but there is no denying how cute is or how endearing is her desire to help her brother.
  • Nausea Fuel: The close-up of Gretel's wrist after using a quadruple sized BFS.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The depiction of Souta's mother being imprisoned in a mirror which cracks and shatters in a most chilling fashion..
    • Trude in general. The ominous, echoing voice, her ghostly movements and Petrifying stare.
    • Monster Cendrillon after absorbing Souta and King Ferdinand from the second to last episode of the anime looks rather unsettling. Her eyes have turned into bug eyes, she has sharp horns growing from her head, and her legs are replaced with a ton of roots. Not helping matters is that she grows to the size of a skyscraper, fully solidifying how powerful she's become.
