YMMV / Detective Grimoire

• Angst? What Angst?: All of the Fellows and Pointers you meet (save for Fifi and Poppy) all seem to be handling themselves well despite having one of their family members murdered in their own home.
• Awesome Art:
  • Secret of the Swamp has a beautiful, flat-color artstyle that makes each area look like a children's book illustration while being incredibly atmospheric and immersive.
  • The sketchy artstyle of Tangle Tower allows for some very fluid animations. Some notable examples include the very detailed animation of Flora's hair blowing in the wind, and the realistic, mesmerizing movements of Percival's hands.
• Funny Moments:
  • When examining the pond statue (a sea creature holding a harp), Sally recounts the time she used to play; she says her harp was a small, handheld one.
  Grimoire: Lyre.
  Sally: It's the truth, I swear!
  • When talking to Fifi, she brings mention to the custom eye-glasses she made herself, Grimoire asks if they turn her eyes red when she's angry. Fifi says they don't... though she admits that would be amusing.
  • Detective Hawkshaw has her share of Not So Above It All moments despite her cold and serious demeanor. First Sally compliments her on her cool scar, to which Hawkshaw seems to take the compliment genuinely. Then during her interrogation it's revealed that her portable microscope is actually a telescope, and when Professor Pointer (the Astronomer) hired her on for a case, she was secretly hoping she could get the good professor to sign it for her. The latter can double as heartwarming for players who are fans of Hawkshaw.
  • When meeting Penny for the first time, she praises Sally for her exceptional hair color. Sally responds by saying she does it to offset Grimoire's "beige on brown" ensemble.
  • Fitz goes into a rather detailed explanation as to why the plants exhibit such unusual properties. Grimoire asks if he could explain that again to him, as if here were talking to a slightly stupid person.
• Fridge Brilliance: Penelope is The Resenter for Poppy. Penelope has a clear Animal Motif for birds, and she compares Poppy to a snake. Snakes eat birds. Ironically, though, Penelope is the bad one of the two, not Poppy. Although, this could be referencing the fact that some birds of prey eat snakes. Birds of prey such as hawks...
