YMMV / Darkness Takeover

Go To

  • Funny Moments:
  • He Really Can Act: Many fans thought this about Soldier's performance as Joe when he was desperate, about to be killed by Quagmire, and especially when he started crying after Quagmire carved in his face.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • It's not very conventional to see Brian and Peter protect anyone other than their own interests nowadays. That being said, him protecting Boyfriend comes off as charming, as does his protection of Stewie. The latter did not get to live for so much longer, but the intention was very well received by both their companions and fans of the mod.
    • The premise for the second half of Death Lives comes off as this, as Peter has lost his family, and he couldn't protect Stewie when he was still there, but he uses his love for his family to keep on going despite whatever the world might throw at him now that the Darkness is there to haunt him.
  • Narm: While the whole mod is effectively chilling and surprisingly serious for something based on Family Guy, and while they're both still badasses throughout the events to stop the Darkness, Quagmire repeatedly saying "Gle"Source , Stewie repeatedly saying "its" in the first version of "Rotten Family", and Peter's "where"s, "ue"s and "va"sSource  could sound weird and funny in otherwise serious or sad moments.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Being a mod about the Darkness continuing its glitchy Zombie Apocalypse throughout different worlds and invading the one of Family Guy, this is more than expected:
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The end of A Family Guy and the start of Rotten Family are notorious for one reason: For protecting Stewie, Brian is now infected, and has gotten to Stewie to inflict the same fate on him. But this wouldn't sell as an example of this category, if it wasn't for the sorrowful rhythm of the instrumental and the vocals. You can see Stewie going through a breakdown, after seeing how Brian is now out of the question. Granted, losing his preferred person has left a big impact on the baby, hit his hidden innocence, and left him in tears as he futilely tries to struggle. Or not so, since Peter comes by and Stewie manages to save him.
    • It also comes off as sad when Peter hallucinates with his family being dead, and also sees Death with them, infected, and about to try to kill him. Boyfriend does help him get out of it, but Peter is still very damaged afterwards.
    • Airborne greets you with Quagmire and Joe singing intensely, giving you the feeling that whatever's next, it's gonna be big. But wait... Why is Cleveland so sad? It's because his adoptive child, Rallo Tubbs, is by the other side. He effectively suffered a Death of a Child, has been disfigured beyond repair, and as his adoptive father, Cleveland is heartbroken to watch and to having to watch him in this dreadful state.
